How many times now has this thread been made?
No idea but it’s been a lot and it will probably keep being made until we get GvG. GvG and HoH were the top reasons people played GW. Heck, A-Net gave away $1 mil each to winners of 3 different tournaments in GW.
they did ones say that they are planning on releasing the core systems before HoT, this includes specialization and masteries.
I don’t think people care anymore about that. I think they care more about the time it took to fix.
i think people are most concerned with knowing exactly what it is, and giving feedback on it before it becomes set in stone, and they have to wait a year for a revision.
basically they dont want to be stuck with a bad system for a year, like the past has shown us is a possibility when the devs dont get feedback
I wouldn’t say the devs didn’t get any feedback after the 83 page 10+ month old thread we gave them before this 7 page 1 month old thread. It seems more likely that our feedback was ignored.
How about they fix the stuff that’s still broken from release first. You know stuff like Traits, some current animations, conditions, Zergs only for PvE, etc.
I’d rather find out about what they’re doing with the trait system so that I can know if I should care about the expansion at all.
Gotta agree here. Been waiting 10 months for details on Traits. At this rate it’ll be 1yr by the time we get any info and 1.5yrs before we get it implemented(before or after HoT drops).
The only thing I could have wrong with 100% rep is when I’m on my Personal Banking toon. But I have always told my GL about that toon if they require 100% rep and most are fine with it. Those that aren’t I do not join.
Can we get some new armor skins and weapons skins with the new expansion which are not flamboyant, goofy or silly or not all three. Every piece of armor or weapon has some part either flamboyant looking silly or goofy or over exaggerated. I get the impression they developers are making a joke out of all the weapon and armor skins in the game.
You can definitely tell these aren’t the same artists/developers that worked on Guild Wars. The weapons and armor for it were 100x better looking.
Unique Traits sound like Masteries to me. Same for Legendary Quests. To obtain Mastery you have to gain Mastery Points by doing certain things on the new maps. You will only see these hearts/quests by having a certain level in a Mastery. You won’t see a Gliding Quest if you have 0 Mastery points in Gliding for example.
As far as Mounts go, the closest I think you’ll ever get to Mounts will be something like the Gliding Mastery and being able to skin your glider.

I got 2 scrap 4’s and a scrap 1 in last 2 weeks, so yeah they still drop
I’d like to see Legendary Armors that have same stats level as the Ascended armors but with the ability to change stats out of combat. Basically like getting Obsidian Armor in GW but you choose your stats. Also would like same option for the Legendary Weapons.
It’s really simple, just revert the trait back to what it used to be but:
-Make it so we gain back 1 trait point per level starting at level 11.
-No more unlocking traits, that was a horrible decision with horrible consequences, people ended up with few traits unlocked and poor knowledge of their class and people were incentivized to rush to level 80 because otherwise you are basically useless.
-Keep the free trait respec outside combat free (this was seriously the only good thing that came with the change)
-Reintroduce the cost to unlock trait tiers (so class trainers don’t become usless once again).
-Make it so that once you are level 80 1 click to assign a trait point puts 5 instead of one (making it so we have to click less for the same thing, and newcomers don’t have to suffer because of that, you please both camps).
I agree with reverting to the original Traits system and keeping the XIII traits as unlocked through tasks. The free trait respec would probably have to be reverted as well because it was a gold sink for A-Net. They replaced that gold sink with the buying of traits. If we revert then they would need a replacement gold sink. I say go back to the original costs for trait respec and just make it so you can do it anywhere while not in combat. Giving us the option to select 1 or 5 trait points per click would be a nice addition also.
I really liked how A-Net did Assassins in Guild Wars. They didn’t give them Stealth. Instead Assassins had Shadow-Step which would basically port them short distances to attack and then port them back to original spot. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Shadow_stepping
I always thought the events were in the Orange circles on the map and AoE was the Red circles on the ground you got out of or died.
The way I look at is that NOTHING will get done to the traits system until after HoT drops and all the veterans go to roll Revenants and finally see how bad the current system is. Then they will bombard these forums with complaints about it and within 2 hrs of HoT going live Colin will be in here telling us exactly what they are going to do and they will have it fixed within a day.
Would you look at that. The New Traits thread has been buried on page 5. I guess their plan work.
If I remember my days in WoW, then GW2 has probably 20x the amount of armor/weapon skins as WoW does even w/ their latest expansion. And you basically can change the look of your armor for free by getting transmutation stones from doing the dailies.
Oh yes, my ranger/ritualist was utterly fearsome with a scythe.
I ran a Ranger/Rit with a staff in kitten riodically. By the time the enemy team realized that our time had a healer it was generally too late.
I think it went over your head
Ranger/Ritualist with a scythe.
. . . look, at that point I was doing FA simply for the Faction. Then turning it into amber. And then selling the amber.
I was also bored, and tired of seeing the same people all the time losing at 2am. I decided “eh, whatever”. Frankly, it looked pretty nice. Did . . . not . . . really work out.
Wouldn’t it have been R/D to have a scythe? Dervish were the profession that used scythes and Ritualist had staff/scepter/focus
I don’t see a reason to constantly change the trait system. The first iteration was just fine, then it just got more annoying for people that made their characters after the infamous april 15th. I think having grandmaster traits work with the new system would’ve been fine though, those are meant to be special and you would need to work a bit to get them all over the world. But completing a zone you otherwise didn’t even step into to get a tier 1 trait you wouldn’t even use? No thanks.
The reason for the latest “rework” is because the screwed everything up so bad when they changed Traits last April.
My favorite was my R/P in RA with Spear and Shield specced full BM. Watching Mutley 2-hot casters was so much fun
Ideas like this are just giving NCSoft/Nexon a reason to make GW2 into a PtW game. If they think they can make $$$ off it they will try it.
Yes, but you had to have the correct secondary profession in order to use certain weapons. A W/R couldn’t use a staff or scepter and a N/W couldn’t use a bow. So really each profession had it’s limits as far a usable weapons.
While a fun to think about premise, this is an incredibly bad idea in practice. Having single class weapons would result in major additional development costs for the art team because that would effectively double the number of different weapons they have to make skins for.
As it is each weapon currently is unique for each profession and weapons server no normal attack purpose to otherwise differentiate themselves. So having unique weapons would add very little to the game.
how many profs can use a longbow?
2 professions
how many profs can use the short bow?
again, 2 professions.what is a waste of dev time again?
oh and btw, the new specialization has the exact same effect as new weapons, they still need their own unique skills just as a new weapon would need.My point is that this thread is suggesting each class get a new weapon that only that class can use. That would add 9 new weapons to the pool that the art team need to make skins for not only a base set, but legendaries, ascended, and in each future set of black lion ticket weapon skins. That is why they should either add 2 new weapons that each class can use 1 of or potentially even smarter do what they are doing with allowing classes to use previously unusable current weapons.
And isn’t that what the devs get paid for?
Sounds like the person who “reported” you was just trying to bully you. Next time tell him to prove it or GTFO. And when he can’t report him for cyber-bullying and teach him a lesson
No offense, I don’t like this idea. Yes, it worked in GW1 (especially where the casters subdivided in damage types), but GW2 works very differently. Now, what I dislike is at least partially due to crafting and the trading post. If you’ve leveled up the various crafting skills, you’ll know that some items are easier to sell than others, and heavy armour is already harder to sell than medium or light armour, and I say that’s partially due to only 2 classes use heavy armour. If you have a weapon only one profession can use, not only will all the drops be completely useless unless you have a character of that specific class, but it will bloat the trading post so that each weapon will be near worthless to sell short of to merchants.
No offense taken. This post was not about economy and the TP tho. It’s about how would you make playing a profession unique and possibly more FUN. The BLTN can be fun to play but you have to play a character to farm the mats/items. If it’s not fun to play then why play? That’s what this post is. A suggestion/discussion on how to make the game more fun to play.
Its a good idea and it would give them an excuse to add in new weapons (and therefore abilities) into the game. And i’m guessing that you didnt intend for your original list of weapons to be the final draft or whatever. But polearm for a thief? dual shields for a warrior? how about this instead:
warrior: 2h axe or some kind of dual wield setup that isnt dual shields
guardian: polearm or flail
thief: dual wield kusarigama (1h scythe) but without the ball and chain, dual wield Sai, or dual nunchucku (lol)
ranger: crossbow
mesmer: throwing darts
necro: 2H war scythe
elementalist: wand
engineer: machine gun or gatling gun. yes i’m serious…make it gear driven with a hand crank or something i dunno. And as much as i hate the term ‘steampunk’ they could make it look like that.
Love the 2H-Axe for Wars
Guardian Land-Spear(Javelin) was to make them more like Paragon from GW but the Polearm would also give you that Monk feel
Thief, I like all your ideas but the nunchucku I really like
Mesmer with darts, never thought of that but would be good control weapon
Necro scythe does fit well wit the Dervish from GW
Elementalist wand just seems like a scepter to me
Engineer with old style hand-cranked Machine-gun OH YEAH
I have no problem with professions getting multiple weapons. What I would like to see is every(all 9) profession have a signature weapon. Something like Ranger being only profession to have longbow(I know won’t happen) or Warrior being only profession to get greatsword.
That was one of the things I liked about Guild Wars, each profession had it’s own weapons. Rangers had bows, Warriors had 3 distinct weapons (Sword/axe/hammer), and casters had staff/scepter/focus. And that’s just the original 6. With Factions Assassins had daggers and Nightfall gave us Paragons with Spears and Dervish with the Scythe.
Here is my thoughts on some profession specific weapons:
Ranger: Crossbow
Warrior: Dual-shield
Thief: Polearm
Guardian: Land Spear(hello Paragon)
I’d like to know the “real” reason they killed a thread that had almost 90 pages and was consistently on the front page for 9+ months. I have a feeling that they think we aren’t going to like the changes and want us to forget about the traits system until HoT drops.
The specializations are more than just a new weapon. It’s a new weapon, new heal, new utility set, new elite, new traits, and profession mechanic changes.
But it will still limit you in terms of what skills each weapon has. Having skills static for each weapon/profession is keeping people from creating genuinely unique builds.
They wanted new skills, new skills are already coming.
Compare the number of builds in GW( http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page ) to the number in GW2. You will see there are probably 100x the amount of builds per profession in GW as there are in GW2. The reason is the skills being static for each weapon in GW2 and not in GW. We had much more freedom to create builds in GW.

Have you heard of the expansion called Heart of Thorns?
I think he is referring to new weapon skills for each Profession and not just a new weapon for each profession. The best part of GW was coming up with unique builds. I had a R/P BM build that I ran for RA. Most people would ignore my pet until it 1-2 shot them thinking I was just some dumb noob.
The reason I could run a build like that was because GW had so many skills and you could combine then in an almost infinite amount of ways. This allowed you to be unique. With the way GW2 weapon skills are, if you are a warrior with a sword, you are just another warrior with a sword.
I’d be happy if A-net just gave us 5 new skills per 2-hander, 3 for main hand and 2 for off hands. This would give us 10 skills to choose from per weapon/combo.
The expansion will have some more challenging stuff (from development standpoint) then making an existing beast (skin) tamable. Normally this should be really easy if it’s about the skin alone.
When A-Net released Factions they had a Quest series that led to you finding a Black Moa. This quest series was a one-time only per character series. If you were a Ranger in you could tame that Black Moa but if you didn’t tame it at that time you either had to find someone who was doing the quest or you were S.O.L.
I see no reason why they couldn’t do a similar thing for a tame-able pet in HoT. Would be neat to see a bird skin that you had to have the Hang-gliding Mastery at a certain level to even find the pet let alone tame it. Or maybe you need a certain level of mastery in a Language to be able to obtain a quest to find a Raptor that you could then tame.
I’d like to see the Pet F4 skills interchangeable between the different pets in a family.
This is my current “FUN” Guardian build I’m running http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fVMQRApe8fl0ApZolDxSI8DNR8QZ9H8CbQ1PQA8oXdEA-TBiAABEu/QSK/A4JAwg5PdU/RgTCwK6HqQJIpAGVYE-e I use sword/torch to burn stuff down and the mace/shield as my defensive set for when I pull too much.
“When it’s ready.”
GW1 didn’t have a Trinity requirement? You couldn’t find a Mission group in Prophecies without a tank and a healer(even the 4-man Missions). Granted once Nightfall introduced Heroes, you could bring a descent Healer or Tank Hero and get through a mission, but you still had a tank and a healer in the group.
Astral my point is being able to access sPvP and Wvw at early stages was a means of leveling, transport to other citises. This was the fastest way to those cities. Now you litterally have to hoof it across the zones? to say LA? Unacceptable.
And exactly how hard is it to go to your Home City and port to LA. Takes what, 2 min to port and then walk to the PvP Gates?
Hopefully we get to try this out on the Beta server before the April Feature patch. Would really like to have this fixed before a year has passed
Why is this discussion even happening? If this thread had been allowed to die like the many that have come before it we wouldn’t have to put up with OP changing the thread’s title 4-5 times.
A-Net has used Waypoints since 2004 when Prophecies came out. They ARE NOT going to change now. DEAL WITH IT.
The only way I can see Raids in GW2 would be if they brought back FoW/UW/Urgoz/The Deep/DoA. Those were 8-12 man zones that were considered the hardest content in GW and the most raid like.
The “every two weeks” was just for Living Story updates. I ‘d say we get monthly bug fix updates and the April Feature Update and that’s it.
Your answer is here http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-01-29-guild-wars-2-heart-of-thorns-expansion-level-cap-gear-tier
“We won’t be doing any more Living World updates,” he reveals. Living World Season 2 ended where Heart of Thorns will pick up, “[it] literally rolls right into it”, so no new big story drops until then. Game updates, though, will continue as you’d expect.
The expansion will be demoed at game shows in March, and the open beta begins “shortly after” that, Johanson tells me. That could mean April, or it could mean spring, or it could mean summer. But it’s an open beta and it’s not miles away. It also sounds like many of the final features of the expansion will depend upon the community’s feedback as well. He mentions that more than once in our discussion, which makes me believe it’s more than simply fan-pleasing words.
How long will the open beta last though, and when will the expansion actually come out? “We’re not going to release the expansion until we’re at a point where we’re really comfortable that we’ve accomplished those goals [which were promised].”
Sounds like we will get to Beta the new Traits system with the HoT Beta.

I just hope we can progress our Characters if we decide NOT to specialize into the new sub-class. I main Ranger and main reason for that is the archer archetype. I really don’t want to be a Druid throwing nature-magic around.
Considering they were working on an expansion I think the delivery of content has been pretty good already.
2.5+ years to give us 3 new maps and some Living Story? This is the same company that produced 2 stand-alone games and an expansion every 6 months between 2004-2005. I’d say they fall short of what they did in GW.
Except that you haven’t seen the expansion. And that the game at launch was bigger than all three guild wars games put together. No, it hasn’t fallen short.
GW2 is maybe as big as Prophecies(minus Maguma Jungle and Crystal Desert) and EotN. A-Net also had about 1/4 of the staff they do now when they put out Factions, Nightfall, and EotN. Also, we don’t know if HoT will be released this year or next since they haven’t given a release date. And even IF it is this year, it would still be 3+ yrs from release to FIRST expansion.

I wish it didn’t end. I’m getting a char to level 10 in about 25 minutes. It’s great.
Got a character from 20(used scroll) to 50 in about 2hrs by just getting my Cooking and Leatherworking to 400(also used two Crafting boosters)
Created a new Thief yesterday to take advantage of the Double-XP weekend. Used a scroll to hit 20 then leveled my 2 crafts to 400 and got to 50. Even with doing that I still didn’t have enough Skill-points to get the skills I wanted and my 2 traits I could use.
No mention in the livestream about traits… but like I said some pages back, With a new profession and the majority of players being exposed to the trait changes there will be a lot more comments in this thread. I do believe we’ll see changes before the expansion goes live.
I can’t imagine they’ll leave the trait system untouched, knowing that everyone’s going to be rolling the new profession. Then again, they’ll already have the money from the xpac sales, so…
Actually, there is one thing here that is pertinent:
Their mention of the mastery stuff. Basically they described something that could be very trait like BUT they explicitly said it would be account bound and not toon bound so it seems like they listened to some things we said in here, but applied it to something completely new in the game.
I just hope they come back and apply that same thinking to the traits as well since they are obviously able to do it.
I’d be fine with them making traits so that if you unlock a trait once you get a big discount for that trait when buying it from a trainer. Or even if you have unlocked all traits you can then get the old trait books for the old price.
IF A-Net is smart and they follow how they did things in GW they will NOT raise the level cap. The best way to allow for player growth is to add skills, traits, new PvP modes, new dungeons/endgame instances(FoW/UW/DoA/etc)and have a good story for an expansion like they did with Factions, Nightfall, and EotN. A-Net managed to keep GW going for 10 years without raising the level cap and Ithink they can do it with GW2 also.
This, but based on how Anet been doing things, I say they aren’t thinking about what’s best for the game…
On the contrary. Anet is thinking about what’s best for the game. Logically Anet has more stake in the game than you do. Imagine the audacity of a fan thinking they have more invested in the game than the company that makes it.
The amount of hubris of some of this fan base is astonishing. They know what’s best for the game, and Anet doesn’t know what’s best for the game.
At most, all anyone can know is what’s best for their play style. I know that there are changes that aren’t best for my play style, but I don’t think they’re necessarily bad for the game.
You may not like them. I may not like them. Joe may not like them. But bad for the game?
What makes you think you’re qualified to judge that?
I’d say just go look at the 75+ pages on the Trait thread and that’ll tell you how most GW2 players feel A-Net is doing when it comes to “what’s best for Business” there HHH
I’m hoping that at tomorrow’s panel they say SOMETHING about the Traits system and not just use it to talk about HoT and their “vision” for GW2.
