I think at this point A-net just doesn’t give a kitten. It’s been a year and all we’ve gotten is:

1. Let us know what you think/tell us your ideas
2. Closed thread after 80+ pages/ start new one asking for ideas
3. We are working on a fix to Traits more when we know what it is
4. 1 year anniversary and dead air

They know those of us that really cared have moved on to new/old games and those that are still here think content and QoL stuff is more important.

This has made me realize that it is important to have a second game that you enjoy. Eso is a good alternative that fits my needs nicely.

With all the bugs and changes that I dislike that I’ve been finding (especially when leveling alts), when I get annoyed it’s always back to eso. Gw2 was my absolute favourite mmo, but now it’s dwindling. What with the incessant pms from gold sellers and being restricted with customising my look at lower levels, it’s really starting to wear me thin.

One thing to remember is that no MMO will ever be perfect(too many people to try to please for that to happen).

My #1 MMO/CoRPG will always be Guild Wars and is why I had so much faith in A-Net and GW2. My faith was proven correct until 4/15/2014 and the “new traits”. This was then followed by the “NPE” and a slow exodus from the game. Now I sit here 1 year later(freshly logged from another BTP (FTP/Sub in this case) MMO) and wonder where GW2 is going in the future. Will they learn from their mistakes like they did with GW or will they continue down this path of the last year and not listen to the community except when it effects their bottom-line.

Hopefully they will look back on their past experiences(GW and GW2) and find a way to fix the game as a whole.(My advise is to tell a certain Korean publisher to F*** OFF).

I wouldn’t say they are using the beta to distract. They’ve had it planned for a bit now. I’d say their silence on this subject with only our voices of dissent have been used to distract in a way. See, they can later claim being too busy with the xpac as the reason for not even putting the most rudimentary fix in place while others whom aren’t affected by this claim we are just complainers in a small 13 page thread since the more sizable one was closed. Out of sight, out of mind.

All the while those of us that have been trying to get info about this since the beginning are more or less at our wits end and not even logging in about to stop logging in, thereby quelling further dissent and allowing Anet more time under this system without addressing it.

They will keep their update in their back pocket with no word on it until HoT drops and that first wave of people complain. Once that happens, they roll out the fix, hoping it will quell most of that noise and have in place a new system that most new players can live with while never hearing from a good portion of us again.

It’ll be like their version of “Classic Coke” after all the people that hated “New Coke” had their say and left to drink other drinks.

But yeah…traits…

Great analogy Pookie. I just hope we don’t end up getting a Coke Zero when they do finally “fix” this.

Been over 2 weeks now since I logged in. Went back to the 2 MMOs I was casually playing while I waited for GW2 to release. Main reason is the Traits revamp and NPE is a close second. These are 2 things never asked for and they are driving former and potential new players away from the game.

We are 2 days from the 1 year anniversary of the “Traits revamp” and still no information on how they are going to “fix” Traits this time. This may just keep me away for good, even with HoT on the horizon.

I really hope A-Net makes at least 75% of the HoT story missions Group Missions like we had in GW. Start out w/ 4-man missions and go up to 8-man for the final one. If they were to do this then we wouldn’t have such trouble getting story mode dungeons done.

No as bad as announcing something that’s the player base polarizes over. Right now we are only unhappy because they are telling us the barest minimum, that it’s being simplified. It’s not generating any additional stories about how much we dislike being in the dark about specifics.

I think that almost 100 pages over the past 11 months would disagree with you.

It hasn’t been 11 months since they told us it’s being changed.

Ah, it’s been a mere 2 months, and 500+ responses. Or has it been nearly 7 months, and 4000 replies since we were told there were going to be fixes incoming?

It’s been 11 months since they “improved” the old Traits system and gave us what we have now. I think it’s funny that it only took a few days for them to fix the Gem Exchange after “improving” it. But I guess if we actually had that many players rushing to the forums about the Traits as the Gem Exchange had we wouldn’t be here in this thread now.

NCSOFT is still squaring off with Nexon and the stockholder meeting at the end of the month. They do not want any negative press that could affect stock price until after the results of this meeting. They don’t want to give Nexon any additional ammo that could allow them to get members on the Board of Directors. That means hyping the releases planned this year while not presenting anything that is too controversial among players of existing games.

You can’t see how to NCSOFT that potentially causing controversy at this critical time is really a bad idea?

And you can’t see how saying nothing to us about Traits fix besides “it’s coming” is doing the same thing?

I think the main reason people didn’t like Living Story was because in Season1 it was basically temporary content. In other words, once that part of the story was over it was gone for good and not repeatable. In Season2 A-Net changed that and made everything instanced and repeatable. I think this fixed the Living Story problems many had and will probably be a way for us to get content between expansions.

And that’s why we have a 89 page Traits thread that got closed and a second Traits thread that is now up to 10+ pages with no real input from any dev. I’ll believe the “more communication with the community” when I see it.

So that’s once in the last 11 years that an update/patch has been postponed.

But perhaps in the future Anet could refrain from hyping an update before they even know whether it’s going to actually work or not yet…

You do realize this means not giving any dates ever, until after it is in the game. Because otherwise you can never be 100% sure something will not happen in the very last second.

Isn’t that what they’ve been doing? Only time we even get hints at any updates are when they are 100% sure they are ready and even then the hints are very vague.

For me the appeal with FoW and UW was that they were large open areas with multiple task, that you could tackle in whatever order you liked.

They provided a kind of non-linear instanced open area that was challenging and fun.

Dungeons are great, and I love that you get different paths, but I really enjoyed the freedom of choice thet FoW & UW provided.

This^. Having a “Hardmode” zone would be awesome. Being able to tackle the objectives in any order you wish and then have a Zone boss after completion would be glorious. You could actually think of these zones as Raids that you get to choose how you run them.

And IF they were to bring back FoW and UW they would have to bring back Obsidian Armor also.

Why not add housing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think the reason we didn’t have Guild Halls or personal housing at launch was because A-Net saw how most people would just log into their respective GH and map to whichever map they wanted to do that day. It took the social aspect of the game away. You really had no socializing accept in LA or Kamadan. Only reason people would chat in towns was to find a group for a mission and then never chat in said mission.

That’s interesting, because I would of thought the ones wearing the tinfoil hats and spouting conspiracies are the ones who refuse to recognize that modern day industries (whether corporate or political) are constantly using hype, lies (wordplay/double speak), secrecy, manipulation (hype, repetition) and delusion (you need this product to feel happy, accepted and secure in life) to sell their products.

Unfortunately this is just modern day practices and how the world works, so it’s practically a given that it will be here too in one way or another…

Actually sounds more like politicians to me than CEO/COO. But then again it’s the billionaires in the corporate world who control the politicians now so guess you are right.

I’ll reserve my judgement until after the Beta and maybe even HoT release tho. Hopefully we’ll at least get a chance to see the new Traits in Beta and be able to give some input and I can make a Revenent in my final character slot.

I just want to make sure that Anet is actually going to engage with us before Traits 3.0 goes live so we can avoid another year long+ quagmire.

They won’t. If they were going to engage with us they would already be bouncing ideas off us in the forums. The guys in charge are stubborn and believe they know better than the players. We are supposed to shut up, eat what they give us, and like it. So we will get what we get and I will continue to play other games.

That is the way it has been in the past. Hopefully, they’ll have learned their lesson and will engage us with ideas. If they just drop a new Traits system on us again and it’s worse than we have now, then they will loose more than half of the playerbase I think. And it would then take a miracle to bring them back and allow GW2 to survive then.

I think it’s absolutely necessary.

Not when I can go to some 200+other MMOs and there’s some way to customize it in the most basic of ways so that it reflects the set up that I’ve been able to replicate and rely on as most people will do as they go from MMO to MMO.

It’s kinda like a basic feature of an MMORPG, is being able to move around and customize parts of your UI.

Then why don’t you go play those 200+ other MMO’s that you can move the UI around on? Ba-Bye

You could probably due with not making stupid comments when someone makes a suggestion that would benifit a mass entire majority of players in this game.

No a benifit to the “mass entire majority” would be something like them fixing the broken Traits system or giving weapons more than one set of skills or adding GvG/HoH to the PvP modes or fixing broken skills and traits. Being able to move thing in the UI is not game breaking like you seem to think. It’s an inconvenience at most and I’d rather see the devs working on the real problems GW2 has.

I like the new trait system.

It gave me meaningful enhancements between level 30-80. Before the trait system, I simply power leveled because leveling was boring.

Be honest Blade. Leveling is still boring once you get your first 80.

Look at my signature. Count how many characters I have.

Most of them are created after the new trait system has been implemented.

And you did not find the repetition tedious?

I don’t find the repetition tedious.

If I really need that specific trait or I have empty slots, I go to the profession trainer. I only need a minimum of 7 traits. Every other traits is cosmetic.

Traits are a distraction and a side quest away from the repetitive heart quests.

So what you are saying is that you DO NOT have every trait unlocked on all 28 of your characters? Because each profession has 65 traits not just 7 and “anything over 7 unlocked is just cosmetic.” If you don’t have all 65 traits unlocked then you can’t experiment and find new and better builds for yourself.

Where did I say that?

It’s what I took this to mean:

Then there is no way possible that you have all of the traits unlocked for all 28 characters without buying them from the trainer(broken events not counted).

I bought only a few because I needed something to fill up the empty slots. Every other traits are cosmetic and I hunted them all down because I needed a side quest that isn’t focused on leveling up. I spent around 10 skill point average for each characters.

I don’t remember GW being refered to as Build Wars until After Nightfall was released. During Prophecies people loved coming up with new builds for GvG/HoH. It was the addition of the repeat skills(same skill different name) that made it harder to balance and started the Build Wars. And I can see why the devs hated trying to balance GW, there were just too many skills at that point. When A-Net released the first info on GW2 they said no dual professions because it was just too hard to balance. I’m fine with that but it doesn’t mean they had to lock our first five skills to a weapon. We can’t even choose the order of our skills on the skill bar.

I think the current Traits system is making players power-level alts to 80 with scrolls and tomes. They then either buy traits for a predetermined build or go unlock them for said build. It doesn’t promote experimentation while leveling which in turn allows a player to get to know a profession.

“As a GW1 player; What I found missing.”

SKILLS.

Seriously. That very thing is what made GW1 so great.

GW2 is to GW1 as ‘The Blues Brothers 2000’ is to ‘The Blues Brothers.’ Sort of related in a flashier, louder, but lazier and shallower way.

That same thing that “made Guild Wars so great” is the very same thing that made Guild Wars so niche.

When you widen your net, you have to make changes. Of course, some people see that as shallow. I see it as smart.

I also see the widening of the net as the reason we have so many MMO’s that are just cookie-cutter games(hello WoW Clones). It’s the reason that the MMO genre is floundering at the moment. The only MMo’s that are actually doing well right now are the Niche games. I see more complaints about the “dumbing down” of the MMO now than I see threads complementing MMo’s.

Builds are not it’s strong point at all. It’s a cookie-cutter zerker meta fest but hey…Anet wanted to try and push PvP as an E-Sport and with the popularity and exposure of moba games like Dota2, FPS games like CS and RTS games like Starcraft I get what they were going for. They wanted to wave the flag of E-Sport for MMORPG’s….sad to say it kinda failed and we are really left with the fallout which is a highly restrictive game in regards to build variety and freedom.

Funny thing is tho, Guild Wars PvP was the big draw for many. A-Net was the first Gaming Developer to offer $1 mil in prizes for a PvP tournament. Eventually they had a Grand Prize of $1.5 mil for the tournament after Nightfall was released. They were even pulling some of the PvP FPS guilds/clans from games like CoD and BFV.

If A-Net would add GvG back(like everyone has asked) and give us more than 2-5 skills per weapon to choose from then I think they could once again see the PvP numbers that they had back in Nightfall. All the need to do is give us 3 more skills for 1-hander, 2 more for off-hand, and 5 more for 2-handers. They should also let us choose the order of our weapon skills.
