Raising Level Cap?

I’d actually rather see them LOWER the level cap to 20 or 30 than raise it. Then they could take some of the new zones and make them 20-25(30-35) range with some harder world bosses like they did with FoW/UW/DoA.

What I do not understand is the lack of logic with this forum.

Whatever the big surprise is, it should be shared with us if it is a free update, P2P or a one time purchase.

And logic dictates that they will tell us the cost when they tell us what it is on Saturday.

Raising Level Cap?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Galphar.3901

IF A-Net is smart and they follow how they did things in GW they will NOT raise the level cap. The best way to allow for player growth is to add skills, traits, new PvP modes, new dungeons/endgame instances(FoW/UW/DoA/etc)and have a good story for an expansion like they did with Factions, Nightfall, and EotN. A-Net managed to keep GW going for 10 years without raising the level cap and Ithink they can do it with GW2 also.

Don’t know how many months it’s been, but would like to know if Anet has made any progress towards a new trait system. I would render that another feature pack will answer this thread’s complaints. Players have been patient and long overdue a proper answer.

IF we get it in another Feature pack, it will probably be in April and that would make it a year of this BS Trait “revamp”.

Maybe because GW2 isn’t a “twich” style of combat it’s “tab-target” combat. If you want that style then go play Call Of Duty or Battlefield or the other plethora of FPS games that are out there.

Why a paid expansion makes sense

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galphar.3901

Galphar.3901

NO! Paid expansion would fragment the playerbase and is completely unnecessary with all the revenue they get from the gem store.

Besides that, I’ll point you to the quote, “setting up a new framework for how MMO’s expand their universe.” Is a paid expansion a new framework? I would argue it is the exact opposite. Therefore, it does not make sense.

IF it’s an expansion, A-Net will most likely release it the same way the did GW expansions and make it a b2p. I would also say they’d release new skills for each profession and a possibility of a new profession. We would also get new maps to explore and new achievements and maybe even some new Dungeons.

What's the Minimum # of new skills you want?

5 for all 2-handed weapons, 3 for all main-hand weapons, and 2 for all off-hand weapons. And we should then get to choose which skills we take for each weapon. Also at least 10 Utility skills and 2 new Elites.

Those that essentially live in the game will have completely everything within a month.

I’d rather have a lot of content to have fun with for a few months straight than a few hours every 2 weeks with huge breaks every now and then.

Don’t play any of the living story episodes and content until the seasons are over.

We received an expansion of content already although the season 1 portion was only temporary. They may not have had new races, classes, and so on but those don’t define an expansion.

That’s exactly what I did. I’m now playing Episodes 5-8 of LS2. I just logged in and did dailies while I waited for the final episode of this season. Makes the LS2 seem as tho it had more content than it actually did and I still have 2 other 80’s to do the complete LS2 on. So hopefully I’ll be able to stay occupied in-game until the next season starts or we get an expansion.

If A-Net does an expansion like they did with GW then it will be 1-2 new professions, new skills for existing professions, new looks for gear, and new maps and story. So I’d say that it won’t be what you would like(a “normal” expansion like in WoW).

Loved how A-Net listened to it’s playerbase even without official forums(shout to Gaile and her crew for that). Also loved how A-Net was an “upstart” company and were willing to go the extra mile to make a great game for the “casual crowd” and also give “hard-core” some love.

So inconsistent…

That’s part of my complaint. The other is: “So how exactly does doing this relate to the Trait Mastery getting unlocked?”

At least with Elite Skills your target would use it. (This was a considerable problem with some of them.) After they changed the capture system, it was not too bad but the initial one was even more BS than Traits are now.

How?

You had to have the Signet of Capture ready, and you needed to hit it while targeting the user, while they were using it. For some of the Elites I just can’t see how that worked at all.

I’m not sure when you stopped playing GW1… But all you had to do was have the Signet of Capture, kill the boss and use the signet on their corpse. A menu would pop up that would allow you to select the skill you want to take, which would usually be an elite skill. It’s way easier to capture skills in GW1 than it is to obtain traits in GW2.

Originally Signets of Capture worked like Tobias explained, prior to the June 8th, 2005 update, this skill had to be activated at the same time the targeted boss activated the desired skill. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Game_updates/20050608

that’s almost 10 years ago, it’s time you keep up with the times.

Galphar was explaining something that Tobias posted. It’s time you kept up with the thread.

it still happened 10 years ago, it’s time you get the point.

No the point is that before the April Trait patch people were asking for something like the Signet of Capture for Elite Skills in GW. What we got was the Trait revamp. Now IF they had gone the capture signet route then, IMHO, we wouldn’t have this 70+ page thread complaining about the changes to how we get traits.

That might have been interesting. A boss with the trait you need that’s is strong enough to be a challenge but soloable. Defeating him gives you the trait. No need to depend on bugged events and if they respawn at a normal rate, then waiting time is minimal.

I would have rather they kept traits how they were and made the World Bosses have Elite Skills for us to capture. I still remember creating a new Necromancer in GW and getting a Droks run so I could go capture Spiteful Spirit.

@Zaklex; if you feel you “don’t need” traits until you’re level 80, then you are either new to the game, and do not understand traits, or are so used to being less than useful that it’s really quite sad.

Your second comment is simply silly and not worth responding to.

They don’t carry it. Period.

It kills the experience for all the people on the forums here complaining about it for over 8 months. Discount that all you want.

Do you work for ANet?

I don’t work for A.net, but I’ve been playing since before the Beta weekends so I’m quite familiar with the game. Traits might help you before level 80 but that’s where they really do the job, before that, IMO you can take em or leave em.

That’s why my second comment mentioned if they have a spot on the shelf for it. You know, a location with a tag on the rack that would show you where GW2 is on the shelf. If they don’t have a tag, they don’t carry it, as to why I couldn’t tell you. That’s up to the store manager of where you shop.

I also mentioned that the Trait set up WAS NOT PERFECT, I agree with those that say some of the methods for acquiring some of the Traits weren’t thought out that well. I myself have no desire to enter the one area in WvW that has some of the Traits(not the Grub, I actually got that Trait on my Warrior). It might behoove you to read more carefully next time.

See this is where you confused me. “Played since BETA, Traits really do job before 80, but better after 80”. I have leveled through both “Old School” and “New School” and I’ll take being able to experiment with traits over having to “tome” level to 80 and get traits as an after thought.

For some of us it’s not the end but the journey.

What to add from GW1 to GW2

This is a quote of mine from another thread but relevant here also:

The only way I’d even be open to “Raids” would be if they were done like in GW. FoW/UW was the best “raid” style instances I’ve played, followed by Urgoz’s, Deep, and DoA. The settings were great and if the entire group got to 60% DP you were kicked. This meant you had to complete the instance in one try but that you could try again(from the beginning) without any time lockouts.

Suggestion: LS more like GW1 missions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galphar.3901

Galphar.3901

I don’t see how GW1 missions were fundamentally any different than GW2 missions. One change that I would suggest is that the bonus achievements in GW2 be doable on the first play through.

The biggest difference with GW Missions and GW2 Missions was the mandatory grouping. You had to have a party of at least 4 players or Hench/Heroes to even begin the missions. The henchies AI was so bad in Prohecies and Factions that you pretty much had to grab other players for missions. It wasn’t until Nightfall and Heroes that people began grouping less and using AI to fill out their parties.

Another thing from the GW Missions that I’d bring into the LS would be mandatory grouping. The first LS Missions could be 4-man, middle missions 6-man, and the final missions would be 8-man. They could also add a 8-12 man dungeon after each story-line ends like we had with UW/FoW/Urgoz’s/The Deep/DoA.

The low level-cap in GW was also one of my favorite things. I’d love to see A-Net lower the cap to 20 and make the leveling experience like it was in Nightfall; was perfect, not to long and not to quick while allowing you to learn your profession before getting into meat of the story. You also had 75% of the story left to complete. Would also like to see A-Net allow us to roll PvP-only toons like we could in GW.

Cantha means less fantasy and more new and unique environment.Fantasy got really boring.

So if you want less “Fantasy” settings, what’s wrong with Elona and it’s African style setting? Think I’d much prefer it over an Asian setting because it’s even less used and Nightfall had a better story.

Galphar.3901

A lot of really important traits are locked behind a high level, I’ve mentioned condi removal on my mesmer, f.e. People are being forced to play the game in a certain way, my wvw characters won’t make pve dungeon pugs happy, so I have to either get a second gear for them or buy the traits or live with being criticised for my “builds”. People who don’t like wvw will have a really hard time to get the wvw related traits.

They can always buy important traits from the Vendor if they want it immediately. Then they can search for the rest of non-important traits if they want to.

But having to BUY each individual trait is very costly in gold and skill-points. Also, how is a NEW player supposed to know they can buy them let alone buy all their traits to be able to experiment with builds?

This trait system along with the NPE goes against one of the major selling points for GW2: Play as you want. To get traits now you must either buy them(if you have the SP and Gold) or you must “hunt” the traits by doing something you don’t want to.

And since the personal story technically begins in the introduction and then you get it again an hour later, it should work for most people.

You may get it an hour later, but many players don’t. It’s reasonable to say that new players will take significantly longer to reach the next part of the story.

Not if they’re following the arrow they won’t. It really is that fast. I can get to level 10 much faster than an hour. An hour isn’t an unreasonable time frame for a new person to get to the story.

New Players aren’t going to hit level 10 in under an hour because they don’t really understand what they are doing. Even experienced players aren’t going to hit level 10 in under an hour. Only those who 100% know what they are doing will ever level that fast, and even then, you’re probably skipping a lot of stuff in order to get there, stuff that a new/mildly experienced player isn’t going to skip over.

Vayne, I know you like defending Anet. 99.9% of your posts do only that, but, giving out misinformation isn’t the best way to go about it.

I’ve tested it on two professions so far and hit level ten in under an hour on both of them. That’s not misinformation, that’s a fact.

And are you a new player? Try reading what I wrote.

I also wasn’t rushing. Some new players will hit in in an hour and if it takes them an hour and ten minutes, what’s exactly the big deal. It’s not going to take them four hours.

The bottom line is the leveling speed is greatly increased. ANYONE who hits events as they go are going to level faster though…even new players. That’s how you level in an hour.

so your demanding that new players level the same way you level so they can level in an hour? They can’t go towards that windmill in the distance? They can’t mess around because they discovered underwater combat for the first time? They can’t talk to the vendor to see what they are selling? They can’t go to that fort that Centaur are attacking and help? These are just some of the things that a new player will do when playing for the first time.

You’re still basing a new player’s experience off of yourself, which means, you’re still lying about the new player experience.

I’m demanding nothing. If a new player is experienced in MMOs they’re going to level relatively fast. If they’re new to MMOs they’ll need the time to get used to stuff.

You accused me of spreading misinformation. You’ve now accused me of demanding someone play like I do.

If they follow the arrow, which is what most new players would logically do, they’ll level fast.

If you don’t agree, that’s fine. But stop trying to twist what I’m saying. It doesn’t help your argument at all.

And you are assuming that a new player will automatically know what that arrow is for and follow it. I have heard of some players(not new but veteran) who it has taken 3-4 hrs to hit 15 in the “NPE”. I think Chrispy’s point is that not everyone will follow that arrow and get to 15 in an hr.

I’m not sure what you’re calling a “lobby game”. The original Guild Wars was a fully-fleshed MMO. Granted it had three separate storylines that didn’t really intermingle (although they tried to force this somewhat with the advent of heroes in Nighfall).

I really hate to defend Vayne here but he is correct. Guild Wars, by A-Net’s own description, is not a MMORPG but a CoRPG. In order to really be called an MMO you need the Massive part and the biggest party you could have in GW was 12 for DoA. GW limited your party size in every aspect of the game and also you had to leave an instance and come back to it in order to respawn enimies

Chris is high enough in the hierarchy to have the answers and he shares them when he can. He’s limited by business decisions implemented above his head though, and those people likely have less answers about what you want than Chris does.

Communication spike a lot after Mike Obrien made the communication thread. It’s dropped off quite a bit in the month since but communication is still at a higher level than it was before that post. It’s not a fantastic level of communication but it’s improving over what it was and it looks like it’s getting better.

The sad thing is that it was Chris Whiteside who was doing 90% of the communicating and he was doing most of it on weekends during his FREE TIME ( i.e. he wasn’t being paid for it). So the forum GMs have to stop and interupt the devs, how many times a day? It’s amazing that people think this is so simple. Like there’s one dev that knows everything, has already made every decision and we can just go to that guy. It doesn’t work like that.

If a decision has yet to be made, or they’re discussing a number of options NO DEV will know, because a decision haven’t been made.

So you’ll get a message as a dev from a community manager saying, “The people they’re really up in arms about traits, what do I tell them?”

That dev might go and say, no decision has been reached but we’re talking about it. So now, the forum guy says that. Doesn’t mollify the forums at all. Not even a little. Next day the forum is up in arms so the forum person goes back to the dev and says “Any decision yet.”

The dev says no.

But every time the dev has to go to his email to tell the forum guy we have no new info is time they’re breaking their chain of thought on what they’re working on.

There’s no real good reason to tell people you’re going to do something but you’re not sure what yet more than once.

And how many times have you seen on these forums, I’ll use the traits thread as an example, where all people want is SOMETHING from the devs? It doesn’t need to be specifics. Hell, I’d be happy with “We’re looking into it and will let you know when we make a decision”. And I’m pretty confident they have weekly meetings discussing what’s being worked on also what the playerbase is saying. All it would take would be the lead dev making notes on the meeting and then passing along what info they would like to share with us to Gaile Grey(Community Manager) who would pass it on to the Forum GMs to relay to us.
