In GW2 you have 11 professions, each with 5 trait lines

I’d like to know what the other 3 professions are in GW2.

I didn’t watch the video but did read your bullet points. I say instead of making GW2 more like WoW, how about making more like it’s predecessor GW. One of my favorite things about GW was that it wasn’t over when you hit level cap, hell most of the time you still had 75% of the story to go and then there was PvP with HoH, GvG, and Arenas.

It depends on your definition of a “Raid”. IF by raid you mean a 10-man+ instance then fine. If by raid you mean A 10-man+ instance that you need to grind for gear in order to “progress” then HELL NO! Personally, I’d like to see ANet bring back Underworld &Fissure of Woe.

You dont NEED to do anything hence it is not a grind.
If you want to get the wings you can buy them using gems that you can buy at your local store or ingame…no need to grind anything here.

You don t have to grind for legendary or exotics, you don t have to grind for anything…you dod what you want and nothing is mandatory.

YOU chose what you want to acquire and how to play the game. What you want to grind or acquire is different from me or anybody else. The content is there for people who want something to do in game. Some see it as grind some like me see it as passing the time.

The problem is that you are doing a single thing many times like the pinatas…don t try to do 50 in a row. Just do 4 or 5 and do something else like a quest etc.

Problem is most of us have already done EVERYTHING else or are sick of WvWvW and PvP in general

I’ll just highlight a few things.

“Most games you go out and you have really fun tasks occasionally that you get to do, and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff. I swung a sword! I swung a sword again, and hey I swung it again. That’s great! We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that. No one finds it fun. We want to change the way people view combat.”

I think Anet failed at this one^

Why do we need another “death of WoW” thread? Who cares what other people play? You should be invested in a game you like – not a game you play specifically to see another one fail.

GW2 needs some desperate TLC to keep going strong for more than just another 6mo to a year.

NCSoft announced Anet can begin working on an expansion. Will be interesting to see if anyone is around to buy it or not. I’d say only way that’ll happen will be if the go the SOE route like in SWG.

If GW2 was anything like Rift, I know I would NOT be playing it, and even less giving 20€ or more worth of gems per month to the developers.
There’s some things like housing and mounts that I hope to see in GW2 someday, but other things like raiding that would make me quit immediately.

Agreed! Now if Anet would give us Professions and skills like we had in GW in the open world of GW2 then you would have a game that is not faltering and on verge of loosing it’s playerbase.

GW2 is much different from GW1. But at first most of you said you hated many of the ideas until it was revealed during Gw2 revealing.

To me it seem like people are just scared of what’s different and what they don’t understand.

I bolded the biggest reason that GW2 is starting to fail.

I think the best way for Anet to have done the new RNG skins would have been to add them to World Bosses like the did the greens in GW. Everyone who played GW will remember when they release the Stone Summit update in Prophecies and we got the first of the “perfect” green weapons. People farmed those bosses continually until they had all the greens. And once they had all of them they farmed them more to sell to other players in LA. It was still RNG because you didn’t have a guarentee that you’d get it, but it kept us playing until Factions and new content.

If Anet were to implement this type of “farming” with the World bosses, not only would it keep people playing but it would bring people back to less played zones in Tyria.

I’m not calling this game a failure at all, so I don’t know why you’re replying to my post.

I’m saying that the numbers of concurrent players or players at all in ANY MMO going forward isnt’ going to do what WoW did in it’s heyday.

It’s just logic. The more games out, the thinner the crowd spreads. It’s hard for it not to be that way. As such, games that cost more to make have to find ways to finance themselves. I don’t think any game is exempt from business decisions that will seem unfair.

But no one really knows the game’s bottom lines. We’re not looking at their accounting, their electricity bills, their rent or their payrolls.

So yeah, it may be that companies NEED to do these things to make some money back on what is essentially a very big investment.

My advice for Game Developers is to make niche games. You aren’t going to get the 10 million players that Blizzard has with WoW,;heck I don’t think they really have that many.

Look at Eve, it is a niche game and has just hit 500 thousand players and is going strong. I think that’s also a reason that GW did so well. It was a niche game. The big thing that drew players to it was the competitive PvP. Heck in the first 2 years alone there were tournaments for GvG that awarded between $500k and $1 mill. If Anet had taken the niche that GW was and translated it to GW2, they’d have done a lot better IMHO.

Guild Wars 1 was created 8 years ago, in a different time…and it’s a lobby game, not a true MMO. It changes a lot.

The MMO landscape today is completely different. Anet has a company more than five times the size of what it was. Salaries have to come from somewhere and here’s a hint…they’re not going to come solely from box sales. It’s not possible.

Guild Wars 2 took 5 years to make, has a ton of voice acting (which is very expensive) and it’s a much more ambitious project than Guild Wars 1 was. Anet moved to larger digs, they have more promotion going on…and they’re competing against FAR more games.

If Guild Wars 1 game out today, it would have never survived the sheer amount of competition.

I will agree with the OP on one thing. The entire state of the MMO situation over all is frustrating. But I don’t think any MMO coming out from now on is going to be any less frustrating, because the MMO situation is the same as the Hollywood situation. It costs a lot to make a movie and so movie companies tend to go with the lowest common denominator.

Every MMO company does things that seem greedy, because every MMO has an increasingly smaller share of the pie, and every MMO has to compete in this environment…yet the amount of players that will flock and STAY WITH any MMO is smaller and smaller.

I don’t like this greed aspect any more than you, OP, but I don’t see it changing for any MMO from this point out…not unless the landscape changes drastically.

Actually GW2 was started in development 3-4 yrs ago and it’s been 9 yrs now since GW came out. And if you go back and look at Mike O’brien’s original blog about Anet no longer working on new content for GW and starting GW2, you’ll see that 75% of the things he said we’d have we don’t.

I’d love be able to switch out some of my Ranger’s LB skills for some of the Warrior’s LB skills. Actually, I’d love to use my old GW Ranger build but the Warrior now has half those skills and not the Ranger.

I thought NCSoft already owned Arenanet when GW1 came out.

Yeah, but Guild Wars 1 wasn’t this bad.

Crystin Cox showed up and destroyed everything about GW1 that I loved.

For Guild Wars 1, NCSoft pretty much let Anet have all the say in the game. There was NO micro-transactions until EotN. You paid for each of the 3 games and the 1 expansion and got all the updates for free with no sub.

IF Anet had followed what got them here and just made an updated(read open world) GW1, I don’t think you’d have 75% of the complaints that you see on these forums. As it stands now, NCSoft is just milking us for every dollar they can get till they decide to move on to the next “next-gen MMO”.

I feel bad for new players.

I think it’s premature to worry about ascended weapons/armor. I predict that’s something they’ll release in another year (if they release it at all. I’m not holding my breath though. I’d rather they release new armor skins).

The devs already said that the full ascended set, including full armor and weapons, will be introduced before the end of this year.

The devs also said there wouldn’t be vertical progression in this game. Why are you believing them now. lol

I really hope they’ve changed their mind on Ascended armor and weapons, I really do.

I’m all for new weapons and armor, but just for looks. Not a Tier 2 level of armor like the Ascended trinkets are.

I’d say the biggest reason I’m leaving GW2 is because of the broken promises that were made by ANet. You can say I misunderstood what they said when they announced GW2, but in my opinion they didn’t deliver on what they said. I took them to mean we would basically get GW1 but with an updated story and an open world. We got none of that. I gave Anet the benefit of the doubt for the past 10 months but with no real changes or challenges coming I’d rather go play a different game than sit in LA spamming LFG or logging in for an hr a day to blow through the dailies.

There were 2 things in Prophecies that retained players besides lore. FoW/UW and HoH.

FoW/UW was were everyone went to get the “Elite” armor, Obsidian Armor. You had to farm Ectos in UW for the mats and then you had to Fight through FoW to get to the crafter. This is what kept the PvE players around.

HoH was the place you went to group up for 8v8 PvP and to practice your teamwork for GvG(You know, what GUILD WARS was named for). This kept the PVPers happy.

It comes down to this:
Arenanet screwed the old gw1 players by saying that everything awesome about gw1 was going to be in gw2. Lore = wiped, skillsystem = gone, speedclears = gone, skillbased team game = gone. And much much more…

At the end of the day, i don’t know how anet can look themselfs in the mirror. The GW1 players made it possible for anet to make GW2. If GW1 wasn’t played by us old GW1 players, GW2 would never been made. And then they destroy every fun/good aspect of GW1. They even lie right in your face, saying they were going to take everything awesome about GW1 and put it into GW2. Like wtf.. How can u screw people like that. I have no respect for anet after GW2.

^This. I’d rather play SW:ToR as a “preferred” member right now than endure the crap that Anet has done to the GW1 playerbase with GW2.

Fishing.

The game could use a new form of time-sinking. Anything made to placate the bored so-called “hardcore” players will be devoured in a couple of days or weeks, and then they’ll be bored again. Fishing is the perfect time-sink for the casual players, and if properly implemented will provide a long-term enjoyable addition to the game.

I don’t like fishing in real life and hated fishing in WoW. What makes you think I’d want to fish in GW2?

Obisidain armor and weapons would be craftable in FoW only. IF we ever get Elona then they could also add DoA and have Tormented weapons drop there.

Great idea, I never did those instances in GW1.

Would love to see them implemented in Guild Wars 2 version of raiding.

- Hard challenging content w/o the need to grind for gear, though something akin to agony would be good to implement in order to make it viable.
- rewards need to match the level of difficulty though in this regard Fractals failed hard !
- Rewards can be cosmetic along side some resources say gold or something, because tbh if its only cosmetic it will suffer the same fate as Fractals have, or the skins will have to be epic in nature to make it worth it.

If they were to do FoW/UW like they did in original GW then it would be packed all the time. Temple of Ages in GW was always full with people looking to form 8-man parties to go farm/get armor. And it would also give people a reason to do HoH pvp. They could just make it be the 3 servers doing WvW competing in HoH.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The best way for Anet to give us raids would be to introduce Fissure of Woe and Underworld. It should be the same as it was in GW were the boss/mob mechanics aren’t just DPS. They need to give us more interesting fights. They would also need to give us a reason to do these raid like we had in GW. Most people did FoW/UW for ectos and to get their Obsidian Armor. If they gave us something like that then it’d work great.

Better build diversity – Builds like we had in GW1 that promotes diversity and discourages the zerker mentality we have now.

Missions/Dungeons that promote grouping and teamwork – Missions like we had in GW1 that required you to group and work as a team to complete the storyline.

Bosses/Mobs that work together- Mobs that have different skill sets and not just a crapload of HP. Make it so we have to determine a strategy to take out mobs in Open world .

I ever said the same: “ranger isn’t overpowered, the overpowered is the pet”

Finally, we have the first good patch in the history of GW2, what will give less power to pets to give player habilities and not become pet-dependant since lvl 1.

Thanks arenanet, finally you understood ranger don’t means beastmaster

If you think them nerfing pet damage means they will be buffing the Ranger damage you are sorely mistaken. What will happen is they will nerf the pet so far into the ground that not even a boar can “forage” it’s way out. Then they will turn around and make a few tooltip corrections for our traits and call them buffs to the Ranger. In turn they will kill the Ranger in all forms and it will be the least represented profession in ALL areas not just Dungeons.

We are mostly a PvE casual guild but welcome members who love to PvP avidly. 1 a)You would have to make special Hard-mode Instances of each zone
b)Would leave all the lower zones with even less people than they have now

Once upon a time all hardmode meant was changing the rules. Making it so armor was less useful and attacks less effective.

There is absolutely no need for a new instance, just make a toggle allowing you to step up the difficulty.

The event scaling already does that.

I’m not hardcore myself and even I’m finding the need for harder content.
with that said here are my top priority suggestions.

1 – Hard mode pve unlock after 100% word completion.
2 – hard mode dungeon unlock after you have done all explore paths in a dungeon.
3 – alliance chat needed badly, 3 full guilds and have to invent ways to communicate.
4 – you have been outbid messages from the trading post.
5 – more armor variety is sorely needed at this point (it’s been a year already)
6 – the cash shop needs more vanity goods people actually would like to buy and support the game, I myself don’t see anything at this point that makes me think omg I want that costume, like it did in gw1.’’

1 a)You would have to make special Hard-mode Instances of each zone
b)Would leave all the lower zones with even less people than they have now

2 See 1

3, 5, and 6 Agreed especially more armor looks

4 Do you mean under-cut for the price of an item or if someone bids higher than you for an item. Neither seem needed since you will most likely only loose a few copper.

The best thing about GW was that fact that you had such a choice in skills to use. Having about 15 different weapon skills to choose from would make this game so much better and diverse. I think the main reason we don’t have that option in GW2 is because of how hard it was for Anet to try keeping the game balanced. But the best thing about GW was the diversity in the builds you had. Right now we’re lucky to have 2 builds per class that are effective. Adding another 10 skills per 2-handed and 6-9 per 1-handed/offhand would make for a better diversity in this game.
