Oh goodness. Well. We did a little investigating since this is a weird one and here’s what is going on. The root of the issue is that we are occasionally bad at picking internal names for maps heh. Divinity’s Reach is internally Valley_Divinity and the VERY OLD Lake Doric map that was not meant to see the light of day, is internally Valley_Reach. Now, back in the day, Izzy was working on ectobox in his free time and made a test version of what would eventually become the City Portal Scrolls. Looks like he set the target location to Valley_Reach which shouldn’t have been a problem since test items should never be given to players. Whoops! This map was cut from the initial launch of GW2 a couple YEARS before ship. It is not a map in development, you can see that it is very rough because no one has worked on it in at least 6 or 7 years. This is not Episode 4’s map and we have zero plans to release this into the game at any point in the future. So have fun in there if you happen to be one of the Chinese players who were given this item!

I would settle for a way to make the Foefire Ghosts stop attacking Human PCs after you’ve done all the hearts in the areas, then my human PCs could hang out with their ancestors. After all, they are the ones who hold Ascalon now, not the Charr

The only way to stop the Foefire is in the lore. If Sohothin, the blade that Rytlock is wielding or it’s sister blade, Magdaer is returned to the haunted ruins of Ascalon City, in the hands of the rightful king of Ascalon, the ghosts there will finally be laid to rest. That is not likely to happen, because someone would have to kill Rytlock to get that sword from him. Or find Magdaer, which is lost somewhere in the world.

I don’t actually want them stopped. I want to hang with them

3. “Invisible Chest” – like the invisible boots, but for gems.

Make it a compleat invisible clothes set! (Including stuff that can be hidden) and make it expensive (gold, gems, makes no difference)

And in case it becomes a great gold sink, add a title “Emperor” with the achiefment name “Emperors new clothes” (and give an invissible backpiece as achiefment reward)

Alas, they cannot do that. Well, they could, but it would be confusing since you can already get the “Emperor” title for buying enough cultural armor. How about “Invisible” as the title instead? Or “Clearly Fashionable” perhaps? (I am not for or against your base idea, but wanted to point out the title conflict).

Mistake on my part (play on german and therefore aren’t conform with all translated titles) but i am sure there is some title avaible in that fashion

I like “Clearly Fashionable”

I know a keyring is a reccurring question is, and it would indeed be useful given the “one map one key” trend existing since silverwastes.

I also know there probably won’t be any soon, so I’m proposing another solution : make keys accessible from the bank. Materials are (put in bank, not in collections), rubies and other “currencies” are. So, it’d be a nice idea to have keys used from the bank too.

Not sure if this has ever been asked before, but would it be possible to make a mobile app or a website for the Gem store (not TP)? This way people could take advantage of the sales, seasonal stuff and gem store rotations even if they are out on holiday for example, and can’t log in to the game while something delicious is available.

All the user would have to do is to link their account to the store with an API key or something similar, and the bought items would be delivered into their account mail.

Maximum TP sale listings

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gryphon.2875

The highest amount you can list a single item at is 10,000 gold. But I think you have to list it as 9,999g 99s 99c. So this is speculation but maybe you can’t exceed that with your total amount of listings. That’s probably not true since I’m sure there’s someone out there trying to sell multiple legendaries.

I suspect they did that to limit how high the price of items can go, and therefore limit the effects of inflation. They tried something similar in GW1 by restricting how much gold you could trade in one go. In that game it didn’t really work because there was nothing like the TP, only direct trade which allowed both sides to offer both gold and items so people just used valuable items as currency to get around the limit. In this game it’s more likely to work because an item would have to be both hugely valuable and so rare you don’t have a hope of seeing one on the TP (which has never happened) for someone to risk trading that kind of money via mail.

But that has nothing to do with how much gold an individual can have, or can trade, so it seems unlikely they’d apply the same limit across all of a person’s transactions.

Yeah, ectos were used as currency…. which blew my mind when I came to GW2 and saw how cheap they are by comparison to GW1.

Honestly speaking, and as a player who has only been here since early access, the game has gone through a few very unfortunate changes.

The first was the change to mob priority in aggression AI. Everything went to kitten for a time and it was A Bad Time. Eventually they got that figured out — same with converting Critical Damage (as a static +Percentile) to Ferocity — and things weren’t so bad anymore. They in fact were not all that different from where we started.

Thereafter we saw the introduction of specializations. Player choice, flexibility in professions, and a lot of utility traits went out the window. This is why a lot of people run the exact same builds nowadays, because many builds were effectively lost. Gone. Kaput. You just won’t get that silly little build back that you loved.

On top of that, stats were decoupled from traits. This was at first lauded until some of us — myself included — realized that we just lost anywhere between 300 and 1200 points to our stats. This furthered the punishment to more eccentric (or compensatory builds) by forcing a lot of us to re-gear our characters to make up for the differences (and in many cases, what has been introduced requires an insane investment of grinding from someone with a full-time job and no further interest in the expansion).

And then we had Elite specializations. I’ll just leave that one be, because anything that can be said about them has been at this point.

Lastly, though is what OP posted and quoted, and what I think is the real core of what’s wrong with Guild Wars 2: the mobs.

Yes, a lot of the foes have similar skills to what we can do, but too many of them don’t. Yes, Guild Wars 1 had lots of unique Monster skills (like Agony) that players would never get to, but they were often just different forms of the same things we might have had in other ways. And what that left us with was something you could observe, learn, and eventually overcome through cleverness and the proper use of your own skills — or those of your henchmen or friends.

I played through some 80% of GW1 (Prophecies, Factions, and maybe two-thirds of Nightfall) completely solo, using only henchmen outside of a few story missions that kicked my tail. Because the game was balanced by virtue of how its skill system (and its Traits) worked.

But also because there were no super-mobs with special attacks that could wipe out a party or hit you from infinite range or without line-of-sight. Because nothing had obscene health or armor while still being at your level. Because no development team made a conscious effort to “kill the berserker meta” by ramping up the burst damage of every monster in the entire expansion.

Simply put, other than the addition of things like inscriptions and new professions, Guild Wars 1 was a game that played by its own rules. By contrast, GW2 is a game that can’t seem to keep the same kittened rules for a single year’s time without changing them for the worse.

I don’t really play the game much anymore. I pop on from time to time, but there’s nothing left that I want to work toward. Because either I’ll get punished for doing so and playing the same build I have for some two and a half years now, or because my efforts are likely to be in vain come the next balance patch. At this point, I hope for “Guild Wars 3,” which will be a clean slate that learns from all of this and revitalizes the ingenuity, tactics, synergy, and expressiveness of the GW1 mechanics and its legacy and all its lore while retaining the exploration and beauty of Pre-Scarlet (oh gods is that like Pre-Searing?) Tyria that was what made me fall in love with GW2.

If only we had the same Dev team from Pre-Nightfall GW1.

Gryphon is still under the notion that TP performance issues are a design feature to combat bots. It isn’t according to John Smith (see link below). I’ve always contend that selling an item “costs” more than a query or a bid since it must contend with manipulating an item rather than just a numerical gold value.

Not had a problem with this myself, and I’ve believed for years that I had to hold in the jump button to get higher jumps in the game (only checked and found it to be false after reading this thread). Personally have no problems with how it is now.

Options are good, if it isn’t a lot of work for ANet hoping they implement the suggestion for having a mappable button and disable the double jump. Wouldn’t use it myself, but for others sure.

Have couple of friends myself that has this trouble, and I never could figure out how they did that. Know they would be glad to see this.

One suggestion I’d make is to try to change jump away from SPACEBAR, as I find on many keyboards spacebar is a sluggish and sticky button. Using ALT myself, and find even that to be a bit stickier than I’d like. Try mapping it to a key like V or something, and see if that helps, as with a more responsive button it is easier to tap and get good results.

Thing is if they give us the option to keybind the activation of gliding, we can map it to whatever we like so the choice would be ours and would fit our preferences.

Already said I have nothing against the suggestion. Just mentioning that the Spacebar is actually one of the worst designed physical buttons on a keyboard for precise jumping.

It is often a large plastic button over 2 switches, with different pressure points depending on the keyboard. Often with a metal bar in addition to try to distribute the press etc. This makes it the button most likely to stick, or not register etc on the keyboard. I still can’t figure out why so many games use it for jump.

I changed it as soon as I could. Besides like using space as “1” anyways, habit from GW1 I guess.

Likewise Course, I remap all my games to control like GW1… I played it so long, it’s habit.

Hello,

Little word before:
with the recent update on BLTC and the automatic adjustement of rewards if you have a double item I got thinking.
Before the introduction of the shared inventory slots I had allot of gemstore items I bought in double or triple for several of my characters. With the introduction of the shared slot system the doubles have often become unneccessary and thus just stay on my bank clogging bankspace.

Suggestion:
As I am sure I’m not the only one in this mather I thought of a system to return your items to a reduced amount of gems or gold through the BLTC. It can be made that you have to buy some sort of transformation item using a small dose of gems (for example 15 – 25 gems per transformation item) in order to be able to change the double item back in to gems (or gold).
As giving back the same amount of gems as the purchase might be a bit unfair as you have used it a long time I would think of something like about 60 – 65% of the origal gem cost as a return after using the item?
This way people can get rid of their doubles without feeling cheated and arenanet can still earn something out of it.

Let me know what you guys think or if you want more details.

I like it.

Regarding the OP idea, I think it is better to leave that to games that specialize in it, rather than water out GW2 further. GW2 never been heavy on the role play elements, they even removed thw showing of the personality aspect which was the one RPG’ish mechanic they had.

Always found it funny that MMO games, that by definition should be the best possible medium for Roleplaying, is essentially the most useless roleplaying games I’ve ever seen.

Well, that’s because MMO is only an abbreviation for MMORPG. There are people who want to RP in an RPG, fancy that. Otherwise, why have races or story at all?

SWtOR has a great romance system and it enhances the story quite well for most of its players.

Yes. My human Thief still wants to marry the female charr of his dreams. It could all happen within my Home Instance, so there’d be no breaking of the cannon storyline. So, yes, options are always good. Personally, I love jump-and-hold, because it works for me, but having an option for other people to change it just for them would be awesome.

Having exclusive rewards per Gamemode is fine it shows what you did to accomplish it, now they need to make sure all Gamemodes have access to the same quality rewards, i.e. New Legendary Armor for WvW, PvP and possibly a way to craft Legendary Armor for PvE all with Different Skins so that they are distinguished by what they did. Game modes having monopolies on quality of rewards is a problem, Anet shows they are slowly fixing that issue with the latest PvP update, they just need to expand the effort

That’s a simple solution. Or, just have a way of upgrading any armor to Legendary stats, so you can have the stats, but not the “show-off-ness” that the raid players desperately crave for some reason.

No vertical progression is why I limit my time in this game. I clear the raids, keep my placing in pvp, but other pve and wvw content there’s no point to playing.

That’s the reason I play this game to start with and keep with it. It’s not a WoW clone, nor should it be.

By Legendary stats you mean Ascended Armor ? Since they are the exact same stats.

I think they mean the stat switching ability

Yes, have a PvE track that finishes with a way to upgrade any armor to Legendary Quality, whatever that brings.

I’d say make non-Raid PvE Legendary set in addition to the raid one, so that people can have both, or one or the other, but Anet hates making armor sets, so…

They wouldnt even have to make a new set. Ask anyone that plays wvw seriously. We really couldn’t care less how it looks. Give it the same skin as the exotic wvw armor you can buy for badges. We just want it for the stat swapping utility. Let the raiders keep their fancy transforming armor. Just add something for proofs of heroics+badges and make it look generic but have stat swapping functionality. I hate pve and have no desire to do it for something that would be hugely beneficial for wvw. Its bad enough wvw players are forced to do pve for guild upgrades for wvw.

I’m sure pvers wouldn’t enjoy it if they were forced to complete all 4 maps in wvw for each raid armor piece or something as similarly stupid. no player should be forced to play a mode they despise for rewards that would be useful in another mode.

Also, so pvers cant whine about it, make a way for them to get gift of battle without doing wvw. They don’t want to be there, we dont want them there taking up queue space and afking in spawn or feeding enemies kills running around in their pve builds and getting stomped, giving the other team points. And in exchange, give us our own unique legendary armor without having to ever do pve. I’d say its a fair compromise.

I wouldn’t mind a Legendary quality Tribal outfit, come to think of it….

Why A New Race Is Highly Possible [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gryphon.2875

Gryphon.2875

What I’m seeing in this thread is, anytime anyone points out a problem with adding new races someone else says they can get around it by removing something.

Personal story?
Removed. Too expensive.

Home city?
Removed.

Leveling area?
Removed. Start at level 80

Voice acting too expensive?
Get whoever you can who works for the company, can speak the language and doesn’t sound awful.

Cultural armor?
Removed.

Specific racial features such as wings are a problem?
Removed or optional.

So, what do you have at the end of all this? You have a race with no personal story, no leveling, no cultural armor, specific racial features are optional, no home city and voiced by Bob in accounting, until he gets a better job elsewhere and then James in janitorial services will start voicing it. He doesn’t sound anything like Bob, but hey, he’s cheap and he’s not awful so that’s a plus.

This thread started out with a new race with all the background and trimmings that the original 5 have and has cut back and cut back due to addressing problems until it has ended up with a race that has nothing going for it but the body. It’s a cut rate, bargain basement version of a new race that no one outside the people advocating it in this thread would be happy with.

When or if the game adds new races it’s a reasonable expectation that they’ll be on the same level of complexity as the others. Anything less will be seen as a sign that ANet is so hard up for cash that they can’t do a proper job. Don’t expect that ANet putting a bare bones version of a race out there to be happily accepted by the players. They are going to want to know why the new race is so stripped down that it’s only the body and not the whole package, and I don’t think telling them they got so little because doing the job right costs more will make them happy.

So. If this is the best y’all can come up with then I’ll be just as happy for ANet to hand out transformation tonics. Does exactly the same thing as what this thread is proposing for a fraction of the cost.

But, what about Bob?
XD

Think of it not as a buttcape but as your towel.

A towel is just about the most massively useful thing any Dragon Watcher can carry. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold snow of Frostgorge Sound; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Southsun inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert landscape of Ember Bay; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy Elon River ; wet it for use in hand-to-hand combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Dragon Champion, Tequatl (a mind-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can’t see it, it can’t see you — daft as a brush, but very very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course you can dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.

More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: non Dragon Watcher) discovers that a Dragon Watcher has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, washcloth, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, WvW gear, latest gem store outfit, etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the Dragon Watcher any of these or a dozen other items that the Dragon Watcher might accidentally have “lost.” What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of Tyria, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

So wear your Buttcape Towel with pride. Everywhere you go people will see it and say, “Now that’s a frood who really knows where his towel is.”

And that the truth. ^^

I loved Douglas Adams too

ANet please make more Outfits, preferably some heavy looking skins, I love how they don’t clip and how I can change them when ever at no cost.

I spend money. I buy outfit. I’m happy.

Too much clipping on individual armor pieces. It’s a ton of work with so many different pieces to make sure they all work together without looking bad. Outfits are easier since they only have to worry about the outfit clipping with itself.

Sometimes an outfit is just perfect right off the bat.

I do wish we could hide shoulders and gloves though.

I love it. Fits my Ice Master Asura perfectly. Love the Aura, especially when merged with the teal poly-luminescent trinket (which I still wish was an infusion.)

Why A New Race Is Highly Possible [Merged]

Tengu would be most likely with least retcon, and most awesome obviously.

It’s ANets fault that they designed races in a way that you can’t race change and stuff, same reason they won’t add new races. Have to make a 1-80 story for it.

It is expansion material, but they’re too busy designing annoying vertical maps with unconventional traveling methods, because ‘different’.

We have TWO, TWO vertical maps. Why are people so hungover on that?

And they aren’t even complicated: Oh no, i maybe have to do more than press autorun and 1 every now and then.

Jesus Christ, i remember a time when things like a new approach to map design and traveling in a game would have been praised.
But no, it’s inconvenient to you because you have to think for a change or invest some time that you can still spend playing like usual.

Must be nice. I’m done w/ this nonsense. I got to the ELEVENTH snowflake FOUR times. Two or three times it either blew up or melted beneath me, I’m not sure which. But I ended up back at the start, so I guess it’s immaterial.

The one time I got past that, I actually got to the SEVENTEENTH snowflake. And it disappeared even as I landed. Not sure how I got that far, It was like the snowflakes stopped melting for a few seconds.

I have tried and tried and TRIED this JP this season. I’m upwards of fifty attempts, which is more than twice as much as I have tried it in any preceding season, and SEVENTEEN is now my new number. With at least four more past that.

This puzzle is JUST TOO FAST. I over jump or under jump or I jump at the wrong angle EVERY single TIME I try to “match the pace” that this JP demands. I’m done banging my head.

I renew MY DEMAND THAT THE DEVS EITHER REMOVE THIS REQUIREMENT FROM WP, OR FURNISH US NON-JUMPERS WITH SOME OTHER METHOD TO COMPLETE THE ACHIEVEMENT.

Anything less is a direct slap in the face to those of us WHO CANNOT DO THIS.

I’ve read your posts, and I feel your pain. People who can do something never seem to be able to fathom why other people can’t do that thing. I’ve been guilty of that, myself, concerning other subjects. Eventually, I taught myself that no one can do everything, and if someone can’t, then don’t expect them to be able to. Lots of people on these forums could learn that lesson, too.

And, I’m with you. I am horrible at JPs. My hands just weren’t designed for rapid movements like that. One of the reasons I loved GW1 so much was that it was all spell/counter-spell, and you pretty much stood still during battles. Most I can manage in GW2 is dodging and kiting, which gets me through most things. But, I mainly survive with non-meta survival builds, same as I did in GW1.

With help from my spouse, I have been able to get the HoT MPs that required jumping to get, but I certainly don’t do JPs for fun. And I’m eternally thankful for the Mesmer that spoon-ported me through the hell that is the Chalice of Tears so I could get that MP.

So, yeah, I know exactly where you’re coming from, even if no one else does. I gave up on getting Winter’s Presence for that reason. Instead, I got the ice dragon mini that snows on me once in awhile, and the new outfit has an aura that expels ice flakes, so I’m satisfied with that.

Now, if Anet took away the JP requirement for Winter’s Presence, I would definitely try and get that, too.

COSMETIC AURAS!??!

I found out its better not to have every aura on since some of them will block the others from showing.

I hope they put in some exchange npc so we can change exotic to ascended.

Me too. I just have polys at the moment, and I love them, but do not like having to have exotic trinkets when Ascended ones are so easy to get now.

I would buy an item to convert aura-trinkets…

… and the other colors, to infusions.
