Because we can’t be angry about both?
I think it would be helpful to stick to your point of what could be done, rather than using the language that April 15th changed nothing. It changed a lot of things for a lot of people. Just because it didn’t impact your game doesn’t make that false.
World bosses are completely different than they used to be. Those timer sites you mentioned? You could sit around for up to an hour waiting for a boss to spawn. I miss the spontaneity of that, but I certainly don’t miss waiting for the event.
The April feature pack was the result of conversations held in this forum with players about real change they’d like to see implemented. I have reservations about how well the implementation has gone, certainly, but to say it changed nothing makes me wonder how long you played the game prior to April.
You have no idea of what I know or where I’ve been, but you should probably just stop arguing. Every time you say something like people RPG because this is an MMORPG, you are asking for this kind of feedback. Don’t make statements like that, and you won’t get this type of feedback.
Right now though I don’t see anybody cheering you on, Vayne, except yourself.
I guess I don’t exist? Because I’m totally with Vayne on this point. Just because something is called an RPG doesn’t mean people are roleplaying in the sense that it is meant when one talks about how the megaserver impacted the RP community.
You know what I love about you? You attempt to make completely reasonable assumptions sound unreasonable.
Do you know what an educated guess is? It’s a guess that’s informed by experience. That’s all it is.
I’m arguing with someone who thinks 20% of MMO players RP. 20%. Do you believe that’s accurate?
MMO I am pretty sure comes from MMORPG which has RP in it. So yes I think 20% is a reasonable guess.
Come on. I don’t even agree with the majority of Vayne’s points here (though I do agree with some of them), and I like to RP (For the toast!), but 20% is an exceedingly high estimate. I’d wager the RP community is closer to 1% than 20%. There are legions of people who play MMORPGs and have absolutely no idea what the RP stands for. RPG describes a genre of game that attempts to emulate the old tabletop RPGs. There are decades of computer-based RPGs that predate the first MMOs, and even MUDs.
Actual roleplay has very little to do with the MMO crowds, Vayne is spot-on.
I see plenty of open RP in the Black Citadel, parts of DR (I’m not there much, granted), the Grove, and various places in the world.
WoW has nowhere near the same level of detail in the terrain as far as hidden nooks go. There is NOTHING that even remotely compares to finding Coddler’s Cove, for example. There’s a lot more dead space, and the zones aren’t instanced.
I’m really not sure how you’re measuring the size of the zones to compare.
The best character in gw2 is, objectively, Tybalt.
You misspelled Sieran.
I just threw up a little.
The best character in gw2 is, objectively, Tybalt.
I actually find Tyria to be fantastic for exploration. Vistas are a precursor to jumping puzzles, and there are lots of lovely little nooks to find.
The pro Anet reason is market manipulation, gold sink. I played a game with similar system except there is no discrepancy(tax) involved. And every time there’s new cash shop item, the price of gem will jump hugely, since players can set any price they want. Obviously GW2 have this problem also, but the price is a bit more stable.
The negative Anet reason is they just want your money. The lesser gold they give to real life payer, the more real cash players need to spend to buy things they want. And the higher gold->gem price is more people are willing to spend real cash instead of farming money for gem.
This is false. You cannot choose the price at which you sell your gems. There’s an internal algorithm that prevents people from buying up masses and immediately selling those gems for a profit, hence the disparity in the two prices.
I didn’t say GW2, I mean I played another game with similar system where gem(or ruby/diamond/pearl/orichalcum whatever currency that game use) price is self regulated by players, and the price usually sky rocket right after a cash shop sale.
Thank you for this clarification. I misunderstood your original post.

Today, they put on sale the collection expander. Normally, I’d jump on that. But in 2 weeks, we learn about how they’re going to change how we “collect and trade” items. Does that mean that the collection expander I might buy, and the ones I have bought are going to be useless? What about other items, like the lumber pack? I just feel like I’m stuck in a holding pattern, waiting for them to tell us more about the feature patch.
If it’s rendered useless, past experience says that ANET will issue refunds (dyes, duplicate gem store wardrobe purchases, some townclothes, et al). However, if it is merely marginalized or made less enticing (townclothes, endless mining picks, duplicate legendaries, off the top of my head) then you’re likely on your own.
I won’t be spending money on gems until traits are fixed, but I’d be leery of making this purchase. Buyer beware.
What is this even about?
Lua, that is GORGEOUS.
Those are beautiful screenshots, guys! Thanks for doing this, Jaya! I thought it ended tonight, so I was still working on some better entries, but that just means I’ll have some great shots saved up!
Some more incoming, Jaya, but I’ll leave you with this one.
Who are the poorest players in the game? WvW Commanders!
Who will benefit most from the new color commander tags? WvW Commanders!
Lets make them spend 300g for each additional color they want. Makes sense. Let’s make the poorest people even poorer.
So much this.
Adding in a gold sink for a population that’s already perpetually poor…brilliant idea.
I was excited about this change until I heard it was 300g per color.
Have they announced that each color will be 300g yet? They’ve just announced that you will have to buy additional colors, not how much they will cost, as far as I know.
Depends if you consider this official:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2djnv8/interview_with_devon_carver_commander_tag_will_be/cjq72z4
http://www.guildmag.com/command-tag-gamescom-2014/“Yes, so each color is purchased individually, and it is important to note that there is no hierarchy for colors so that you have to purchase blue and then have to go to red or yellow or whatever. It is also important to point out that if you already bought a commander tag, it will become account bound so that when you’ve bought a blue commander tag you’ll never have to spend money on that again. So if you bought blue already you can go ahead and buy other colors if you want. If you’ve bought more than three you can contact costumer support and get a refund.”
I guess we’ll see more Cursed Shore farming/“exploits” leading up to this date.
Again, that doesn’t address the cost of additional colors, it just says there won’t be a specific path to get to any of them. So maybe blue is 300g, but red is 700g.
And my ferocious warrior!
Oh! How could I forget my not-so-subtle thief, Shreanne?
I’m confused about this. Do you mean that there is a general consensus that most traits aren’t good/worth having?
I’m Ranger. According to people I ask? 90% of them which don’t begin with “Signet” and end in “Beastmaster” are worthless.
Huh. I’ve always heard that Spotter is pretty much essential to group play. I’ll concede that rangers aren’t as trait reliant as other professions, though.
Just for you, Jaya!

So far I’ve heard
- no refunds unless you have 4+ tags
- old tags all become blue
- have to buy each new color for 300g
I currently have 3 tags, so the above means I get 0 refund, paid full price for tag, and I get reduced functionality (can’t pick the color I paid for) vs new tags?
That is… less than ideal.
Have they stated that each new color will be 300g?
Sorry, the little snippet in german actually says that anyone who bought more then one will get a refund – now see the new info from Chris on the reddit thread in which he said “an hour ago” only that you only get a refund if you bought 4.
More I don’t know either at this point.
Yes, I know about what Chris said, but the article does say the refund will come in gold, and Chris didn’t correct that aspect of it.
Would make more sense to give the option to pay the difference. Example exchange 2 tags, pay 100 gold – get another colour.
That aside I find this a bit unflexible, but perhaps they are scared about the amount of gold flowing back into the economy.
This hinges on the assumption that each color will also cost 300g. That information hasn’t been released that I’ve seen.
The interpretation seems clear to me, the commander tag costs 300g and you can chose the colour. Pretty much in a nutshell.
My assumption would be that the reason you need to have bought 4 tags for the refund is that you will not get a refund in gold, but rather another tag via email (maybe it’s open the tag, then chose the colour, easiest). So you keep blue and exchange the 3 other tags for one new one.
The german translation (paired with what Chris Cleary clarified) seems to indicate that if you’ve bought more than 3 tags, you’ll get gold back for each one beyond that. My assumption is that they’re not going to refund you unless you’ve paid the full 300g.

I’m confused..
so if you have one commander tag (blue), you won’t be able to access the other colors unless you purchase them? And you won’t get a refund unless you have purchased more than 4?
You have to purchase the other colors individually, according to an interview at gamescom, and you won’t get a refund unless you’ve purchased more than 3, because 3=300g, per Chris Cleary on Reddit.
(Edit: I had my sources wrong)

It’s in the latest blog on the official site.
I wonder if each color is 300g.
Holy kitten! People that actually support the new trait system?
Have you seen the traits thread? I mean this kitten Game Update: Traits. That thread right there.
In that thread there is hardly a voice, a single whimper showing their support of this horrible change (save the free respec, of course).
Oh you righteous and pious souls! Where have you been?
I don’t get involved in things I don’t have an ounce of thought about. This new trait system? I prefer it in roughly 75% of the way it’s handled. The other 25% . . . meh. I don’t find it worth getting upset about, most of those traits aren’t any good by general consensus.
I’ll eventually get them, it just takes patience and maybe some arm twisting of allies to make it happen.
I’m confused about this. Do you mean that there is a general consensus that most traits aren’t good/worth having?
Zone portals and asura gates don’t cost any silver. Stacking sigils are worthless now that water washes away the stacks.
I’m not a fan of them. I think there are plenty of other sets that look much more polished and unique. That being said, this thread pops up for pretty much every new black lion weapon sets. I think that’s good, because it means they’re not only trying to appeal to one aesthetic, and that’s smart business. I don’t think every bit of artwork in the game must appeal to me, and I’m glad there are folks who enjoy this set.
Absolutely no problem with it. New trait system is fine. Stop complaining that your life is too hard…
You don’t know anything about my life or how hard it might or might not be. However, I’m not complaining about my life or its difficulty. I am letting ANET know that this trait system is bad on so many levels that I will not be spending a dime in their gem shop until it is fixed.
There’s only one thing that’s better now than it was in the old system, frankly, and that’s the ability to change traits on the fly. But I’d gladly pay a bit of silver if that meant getting traits starting at level 15 and the cost of unlocks was no more than double what it was prior to April’s feature pack.
There’s no way you’ve leveled a character in this new system and have that perspective. You can’t possibly think that 100% Lornar’s Pass map complete for a single, first-tier trait is good design. I will concede that perhaps it is in line with your chosen play-style, and that’s fine. I’m glad you like it. And if ANET decides that more people like it than hate it, then I hope they’re happy with the customer base they’ll be keeping.

I chose radiant because it was a refreshing change from all the flame-oriented stuff, and it amuses me to put my not-so-sneaky Charr thief in them. It would be hard to reverse now because of wardrobe unlocks, but if you changed your unlock choice somehow, maybe the other unlock would cost transmute charges instead of being free to apply- that’s one way to balance it.
I was surprised to find myself feeling disappointed at the patch notes today. I seriously didn’t think I still expected Anet to address the trait system. Guess I’m a slow learner.
I have 24 skillpoint scrolls on my 4-month old account. It’s possible to play the game without racking up tons of skillpoints.
I just don’t have words to express how unhappy I am that it used to cost less than 5g to unlock all the traits.
Trait points should come every 5 levels, starting at 15.
I was trying to level a mesmer who was grandfathered in with trait unlocks, and I’d forgotten how trait reliant mesmers are. Even with the npc nerfs, it’s a struggle. It’s really disheartening.
I’m not obsessed with them, but if someone happened to send me The Dreamer, Quip, Juggernaut, Howler, Meteorlogicus, or any of the other ones I like, I’d love to have the skins.
I confess that I often look at character names from an in-character perspective. I think to myself, “Poor ‘Maaaaaaaaaya,’ she probably got teased by all the other kids in her school.” Or, “I guess Ugly Face’s mom really didn’t want her progeny.”
I confess that I actually do apologize if I arrive moments too late to revive a downed player.
I confess that I use “dude” in a gender-neutral fashion.
I confess that my laurels have been gathering dust since dyes became account-bound. Yes. I used tons of laurels on dye lotteries, and I do not regret it one single bit.
I confess that I want a better computer for the sole purpose of being able to run the sanctum sprint again. (This computer is a downgrade and there’s too much latency/graphical lag to allow me to run it.)
Tobias, “unique” in this instance is being used to describe something that you can only equip one of, so it only applies to things like rings or trinkets.
Thanks, I know what it means. I was saying, it’d be nice if these things weren’t the ONLY things which had that tag, and there was more exposure to it.
Though the best solution short of getting rid of that tag, is the “idiot note dialogue box” I mentioned above. Sort of like the kind you get with “would you like to format this drive?”.
. . . it might cut down on events like this one, but I must admit I’m not too optimistic on that.
It couldn’t really apply to armor, since there are no duplicate armor pieces, and it would really only apply to people who dual wield daggers, swords, pistols or axes for weapons. That does cover a fair bit of ground, so it seems like it holds potential, but I’d like to see them clarify the tag first. At the very least it should be designated “Unique-equipped” or, as you suggested, have the “verify” pop-up. Sorry I missed that you had demonstrated knowledge of the tag, though! That’s totally on me.
Tobias, “unique” in this instance is being used to describe something that you can only equip one of, so it only applies to things like rings or trinkets.
I’d like to point out that you can give the secondary item to a different character and use it there. But this is an ongoing issue that should have been addressed long ago.
Wait, there are events that spawn champs (if they’re scaled up enough) and those champs drop bags? Because that’s certainly not the case in world bosses like fire elemental or shadow behemoth. This seems like a bug.
Or, anyway, they’re not counting for daily champion slayer. A lesser bug is that Veteran Longshanks (Victor’s Point in Wayfarer Hills) doesn’t give kill credit OR veteran kill credit.
When was the last time Chris Whiteside even posted on the forums?
Edit: Just looked him up- it was about 3 months ago, probably verging on 4, at this point.
The new trait system is the only reason stopping me from making a new character. To bad my account didn’t grandfathered in…
Oh, accounts didn’t get grandfathered in. If I make a new character on my account, I’ll have to unlock all the traits, too. It’s only characters that were created before April 15th that were grandfathered in. So it’s keeping me from creating new characters, too.
Most world boss pre-events don’t scale, so if I get punished because I can’t get credit for a single grawl at the Maw pre-events, I’m going to be pretty unhappy.
Could say that people want to control others and are very short sighted.
Their own morals are the truest and correct, even if they’re flawed (don’t like blacks, hates immigrants, heretics, etc.). Should these fail them, it’s the apocalypse tomorrow.
So these people are very inquisitive about their beliefs, so they make it hard for anyone else who doesn’t share the same belief.
Could also say that people don’t want to know about others in most cases, instead use the belief and moral codes to define them, so there will always be hostility that is not thought with logic.
It’s quite hard to make person understand that he/she is wrong, when he/she really is wrong. To them it’s almost like we’re trying to hurt or kill them.
This goes so far as to deny individuality too…
Why narsissism, hate, ignorance and more…
I don’t see what this post has to do with pastries.
I love it when people ignore what you have to say… I said constructive criticism is good, and all I corrected was the analogy, as the pastries are just as good as they were at launch. Sure, the new pastries aren’t as good as the old ones, but the old ones are still good.
I’ll just leave this here, since it seems to apply to our little exchange. The pastries you say here are just as good as they were at launch, I say are no longer on the menu.
This would be funny if it weren’t so sad.
You can actually say that the pastries didn’t get worse, and then talk about the trait system? How can you hold those two things in your head at the same time? Because my trait pastry has absolutely gotten worse. The first halloween had glorious pastries, but the second one was terrible. The infinite continue coin pastry is literally inedible. Town clothes? That pastry is just repackaged from the grocer down the street. All those people who worked for their Fractal pastries having them just taken away? That’s not good business.
Some pastries have gotten better. But to say nothing has gotten worse is laughable.
while your general statement is true, and would be true about just about anything, I actually disagree on your specific examples. Trait system should have been like it is now at launch. We all tell noobs to level to 80 the normal way instead of EotM because you have to experience it, yet we’re all too spoiled to realize the new trait system is what a lot of people had been asking for? Then you have several references to content known to be temporary. Whether it recurrs and how often is irrelevant as it was known to be temporary. Your infinity continue coin serves the same purpose as it always has, and I’m sure it will still work when worlds 3 and 4 are released. They made no promises of timetables for SAB, so I’m not sure what you expected.
The fractal reset was lame, it didn’t affect me so my opinion that it was the best option at the time doesn’t count. So you can have a point there.
Go unlock builds on 2 or more characters, and then tell me this is how the trait system should have been since launch.
I know what people asked for; I was one of those people. This is not it.
I’m sure the management at the pastry shop enjoys their “loyal” customers telling other customers that if they don’t like it, there are plenty of other pastry shops to frequent instead.
Kitten, I hate condescending, preachy parables.
can I just point out that in this stupid contrived metaphor the pastries have never actually gotten any worse? Sure the owner create the shirts or whatever the hell your analogy is but the pastries remained of the same quality. The correct analogy would be that the owner started making new shirts but never made new pastries.
But i think the point here is not the discourage constructive criticism completely, but instead is talking about those who constantly want game changers and complain that gw2 is lame without them. Like open world pvp, mounts, etc. These are the squeeky wheels that I don’t want to be greased.
Those that provide constructive criticism like saying how the trait system could be improved or how wvw could be more fun are always welcome, and I don’t think you see huge arguments spawn off those threads.
