Because we can’t be angry about both?
It’d be nice if they’d at least confirm ‘Hey yo, here’s whats up:
It’s confirmed on the ANET twitter account.
The phoenix set is honestly one of my favorite sets in the game, second to the zodiac set, and I’m usually bored by flame sets. It’s just a matter of different things appealing to different people. I adore the lovestruck set. I only liked a few from the tormented, jade, and dreamthistle sets, and I wasn’t a huge fan of the rest, that I recall. Oh, except the Halloween set. Those are pretty great.
Okay so this makes me question something. Are the new Traits actually worth trying to get? Because if not, all the cash and effort is going into buffing equipment.
It depends on your class/preferred build. The thief trait that provides heals on crits was utterly necessary for me, and very easy to obtain.
Very disappointed at the lack of changes to the trait system. I won’t be buying gems again until this is fixed.
I love my asuran warrior, and they are very dance-y depending on how you kit them out. I run dual axes on her.
i like the whole bs about our character created before the patch will be grandfathered in, just checked my lvl 24 necro who i haven’t played in awhile, it’s all locked and have to buy the traits 1 at a time, chock this crap trait system up to belonging with the garbage mega server i guess and learn not to believe anet about things
It’s not bs, since all my lower level characters were grandfathered in. I’d send a bug report and make a service ticket if it hasn’t happened for you. I’ve not heard anyone else complain about this.
Actually, the issue is that your traits won’t be unlocked (even for viewing) until level 30. You don’t have to buy them, and you’ll be able to see that once you reach the appropriate level. (I think it’s stupid that we can’t even look at our traits in-game before level 30, personally.)
Nope. #fifteenchars
3710g is nothing.
Some players have accumulated over 200,000 gold. 3,710 for them is a toothpick.
You don’t understand the problem. Yes, if I could fork over 4k gold for this item I would. The problem is that there are none of these items remaining to be sold. No one has an un-accountbounded item of this to sell. They have all been used and bounded to accounts.
Which is info you can’t possibly verify or know. Granted the number is exceptionally low or maybe it is zero, but you can’t say how many are out there that could be sold.
On top of all of this, these are still a drop from Black Lion Chests. An insanely rare drop but they can drop as can the other permanent service items (TP/Bank/Merch). So they can still be acquired but the chances are extremely, agonizingly low it seems.
The hair kit and the total makeover kits that drop from black lion chests are not the permanent ones- they’re consumables, just like you’d buy from the gem store. According to the wiki, the black lion chests have never dropped the permanent hairstyle kit.
Edit: The wiki page for the item itself says that it has a chance to drop from Black Lion Chests, even though the page for the BLCs indicates they were only available from the mystery wintersday boxes. The utter absence of them on the TP makes me think that the page for the item is misinformed, but it would be nice to get some official confirmation on this.

All the best, Danicia! You’ll be missed!
The Foul Bear Chieftain (required for a trait) is also bugged out. “Killing the Ogre leaders of Sapper’s Delve” requires us to talk to Scout Tahiri.
I have been trying to find this scout for 2 weeks. I have not been the only one trying this. A couple of them I remember from previous attempts. It is obviously something a lot of people are having problems with.
I have decided that I am going to finish one of the two alts I was planning. However, the second one was going to be a re rolled necro. I just wanted a necro in a different race, however, I will be sticking with the one that was grandfathered in.
In case anyone wants to see exactly how bad this is, my wife sat down and did all of the math. It’s posted on Google documents: http://tinyurl.com/q6vgf93 . The legend for the colors is on the right.
This does not include how difficult each unlock is, nor does it include bugged unlocks.
My wife has a much more in depth version typed out that, if anyone wants to see, PM me and I will relay it to you. Its a bit grim.
That’s an interesting spreadsheet. The wiki has something similar, but less fancy. I’d like to see it without the two yellow shades- they’re not different enough that I can easily tell them apart at a glance.
I’d like to point out that 100% Lornar’s Pass is listed as being under 30- yes, the zone starts at 25, but it finishes with level 40. Likewise, the low end of Gendarran Fields is 25, but the high end is 35.
Not really preferred, but something like this is what I was thinking about using.
It seems like you might be trying to sell too many items too quickly.
Hi. Player interested in trying this title again.
What’s up with the traits? They got smaller but harder to get a hold of? Like you have to complete a certain named dungeon or take named point in WvW?
Can someone catch me up speed?
If you’re playing on a character that was created before April 15th of this year, the traits are automatically unlocked at the appropriate levels, except for one of the grandmaster traits in each line. Each of the 14 points counts as five from the old system, and you get your first trait point at level 30.
If you are on a new character, the major traits that you slot will all have to be unlocked. You can use gold and skillpoints (approximately 40g and 360 skillpoints if you want all of them) to unlock the traits you want, or you can do a trait task to unlock a specific trait. The wiki has a full list of all the tasks.
Traits used to cost about 4g to unlock all of them. But, hey, now you can change up your traits anywhere, so… there’s that.

I don’t understand how you can be surprised at the lack of new content. Since launch, content has been transient- impermanent. They’ve just developed the story journal so that people can access missed content, but it has required a massive overhaul with how the living story functions. So, stuff has happened since you’ve been gone, but most of it is no longer in the game. Nightmare tower, Marionette and defense of Lion’s Arch are all big events that have since gone away.
I’d have died so many times getting the vista outside of Fort Trinity (in the caves) without the fall damage trait.
NO SAB PLZ !!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!
I don’t understand anyone who is opposed to SAB. It’s not like you have to complete it in order to access your bank or traits or anything… it’s just a part of the game. It’s like… like… objecting to the mere existence of… well, anything in game. The crab toss. Dredgehaunt Cliffs. Vizier’s Tower. Sapphire dye. Belcher’s Bluff. 5 karma vendors who all sell the same stuff standing next to one another. Copper ore. Salvage kits. I don’t see anyone raging about the fact that these things exist in a persistent fashion in the game. What is it about SAB that evokes responses like this? There is literally no reason you have to even think about doing SAB if you don’t want to.
Would be way too easy to farm skill points too.
As opposed to all the scrolls of knowledge dropping during every event… ?
Make a character, go to your home instance, channel the skill point there, go to the starting area channels, delete the character, rinse, repeat. You could easily be getting 1 skill point every 5-10 minutes if they were account bound. If skill scrolls are dropping that often for you, your account might be glitched.
I feel bad for people who wasted gems on an infinite continue coin, seriously.
I feel bad for people who don’t understand why someone would want to contribute money to a great game like GW2, and those that create great content like SAB.
But thanks for coming into the thread to put us all down, seriously.
I was expressing sympathy, not condescension. I’ve made plenty of gem purchases, and I think Josh Foreman (SAB designer) is exceptional. But I’d be extremely unhappy if I purchased something in the gemstore that was rendered useless for the better part of a year.
I guess I’m just entitled, because I don’t believe in making donations to a for-profit business.
So… let me amend that statement, and see if it suits you better.
I feel bad for people who bought the infinite continue coin with the expectation that SAB would reappear at regular intervals and now feel like it was a waste of their money. I don’t feel bad for people who are totally happy to have that coin sitting in their bank, looking pretty and gathering dust.
Is that better?
My apologies. I mistook your response for the generic forum nastiness.
Ah, I’m glad it’s cleared up. I can see how it might be read that way. No nastiness intended.

So, I’ve just read over the requirements for unlocking everything. I like the idea behind this change, but the execution is… well… terrible.
You can no longer ‘choose how you play’, as you are given a roadmap of things to accomplish that are so specific that Anet may as well have just set up invisible walls to keep us from going off the path.
Seriously, I was looking forward to seeing how the new system worked (even deleted one of my lowbies to experience the new system), and now I’m unsure if I even want to keep playing anything besides my previous 80’s.
Now, I’m done with complaints. I have one suggestion that I believe could fix most peoples problems with this system.
Make the requirements more general.
I’m okay with asking people to finish a leg of their personal quest. But, how about instead of telling us a specific area to 100% explore… You just tell us to 100% explore ANY area other than the racial cities? Maybe instead of “take specific point in WvW”, just make an adept unlock “take A point in WvW”.
That’s all I got. If something isn’t done to these requirements, I don’t think I’m playing any more alts… more importantly, though… I don’t think I could recommend this game to new players.
Either make the requirements more general, or make it so that you get a choice of events to unlock specific traits. No one really should be forced into WvW to unlock a trait. It’s sort of silly. No one should have to run a dungeon.
For me it doesn’t matter, because I play all content in the game, and I’m happy to do pretty much anything, but I think this will throw a lot of people off who have a narrower comfort zone.
There are 3 ways to unlock traits currently – you can stumble upon the unlock naturally while playing, pursue a specific trait unlock or buy it with gold and skillpoints. I think that’s quite enough. There are some unlock reqs which are really out of the way/frustrating to obtain, though.
There are two ways to unlock traits currently. You can pay through the nose for it, or you can do the largely level-inappropriate tasks. Stumbling on the tasks does not make that a third option. It just means you got lucky.
But I’d like to see options to unlock them instead of having to play a game mode you don’t enjoy.
I never understood this argument. Even for people who are WvW players you have to level up as if it were PvE and unless you do EotM ktrain you aren’t likely to get so many badges to pay for full exotic gear appropriate for WvW. The only people who have a “right” to complain about it would, potentially, be PvP players. However they get all of the first 12 traits in each line for free as it is.
What “game mode” are people being forced to play that they don’t enjoy that was any different prior to the update?
It’s not so much game mode as it is parts of the game. Not all PvE players enjoy EVERYTHING in PvE, because PvE encompasses a lot of stuff. And I refuse to break down and buy traits when they formerly cost less than 5g (and no skill points) for the whole lot. So when the option is “Get 100% Map Completion in Lornar’s Pass” or “pay skill points and the coin amount it previously cost to unlock this entire tier” for a single trait, I’m going to have to stick with my assertion that it’s bad.
When the flaws outnumber the potential good of a system, it’s bad.
3710g is nothing.
Some players have accumulated over 200,000 gold. 3,710 for them is a toothpick.
I would like a toothpick. (Do not send me your money! These forums are not a grey market.)
Just think of the peoples faces that have the highest bids in, when it gets released in the gem store.
Confirmed, Wanze has insider info on what will be coming to the gem store!
(I am kidding!)
I couldnt care less about what they release in the gem store. And i dont trade in high value items because its stupid and unengaging. I think i have less than 10 items on stock that are worth more than 100g and i dont think i ever bought or sold anything valued higher than 200G.
I tried to make it really clear that I was joking, but okay.
There doesn’t seem to be a clear answer because there isn’t a clear answer. Some people share Vayne’s thoughts/experience on the matter, but there’s no official confirmation one way or the other.
Yeah, unless they’re postponing the bash, the outlook is not good.
I already have and use “Spotter”. I run greatsword/shortbow in PvE, with a focus on precision in my gear. I mainly have my jungle stalker equipped, with a spider or moa as backup. It doesn’t have to be the top meta build, but it does have to be one that I won’t need to change up. I’d like to avoid traits earned in WvW, and not too many that require dungeon completes, since I’ll be running those dungeons without a proper build in place. Some survivability is welcome, because my latency is high enough that I generally don’t have enough warning to dodge telegraphed attacks.
I have a couple of traps and a signet (condi clear, but I swap it out for frost spirit for group events) for utilities. “Rampage as One” is my current elite, but I’m saving up for the nature spirit.
Thanks in advance!
I feel bad for people who wasted gems on an infinite continue coin, seriously.
The news is that there’s no way to objectively measure variable fractal runs and sort that into a rankings system. Of course, this isn’t news to the player base.
After the dolyak race in the Labyrinthine Cliffs, Taimi, Jory and Kas would have a little conversation. Taimi was giving a toast, and the text in the window read, “To fizz in your nose!” but the vocalization did not resemble that phrase at all. Not in any way. I swear that Taimi said, “To blood in your eye!”
If you buy an outfit from the gem store, you never use transmute charges on it. Outfits are not mix and match- they do not have individual pieces, like the armor sets- and they do not have an armor class attached to them.
But for an armor set, you’ll have to use transmutation charges to reapply the skin to your new pieces, as Zaxares describes above. I generally do not apply armor skins until I’ve reached level 80.
I was grandfathered on 6 characters. I am currently working on a new character and I rather enjoy unlocking traits through play. It seems more “realistic” to have to do something other than spend coins to get traits. The fact that I enjoy most aspects of the game probably contributes to my attitude, all 6 of the grandfathered characters are level 80 with 100% map, which indicates that I do enjoy doing most everything in the game. The only traits that I see possibly being difficult to unlock are the ones in EB as I prefer playing in the BLs.
I currently have 11 level 80 characters on my main account (and one below 80), and another one on my secondary account. My highest map complete is 77%. I like alts, I like trying different builds, and I like finding a look for my characters. I do PvE and moderate amounts of roleplay in between.
I totally respect that you enjoy the new system. I do like the idea behind it, but find the implementation to be poor. I also like that you acknowledge that you are probably not typical among players, as to your play style.
You can buy the trait too, just visit a mesmer trainer.
If you cba to do Personal Story, map completion or events to get your traits – and you’re too cheap to buy them – well, sucks for you. Personally, I think it just weeds out the people who want a handout from the people who actually care to build their characters.
I think it weeds out people who would rather play the parts of the game they want, rather than be forced into doing 100% zone complete, or wvw, or personal story steps more than 10 levels too high, for one lousy trait.
I think it weeds out people who don’t have characters grandfathered in by the old system.
I think that if Anet shares your opinion that its customers need “weeding”, they need a new business plan.
How many builds have you unlocked under the new system?
Are these rumors spawning from the hopes and dreams of the same people who had “rumors” of a new race on July 1st? Or is there official chatter that suggests this might be happening?
If they kicked you without reason or a disagreement in party chat, it’s considered griefing and can be reported to a GM if you submit a ticket.
How? There is no ticket option for griefing.
I believe one of the options (on right-click) is LFG Abuse.
I usually announce group events, especially if there’s a champion involved or if I know it’s part of the trait hunt. Sometimes I don’t have map chat enabled so I don’t bother, though.
Are you trying to equip it from the wardrobe screen or from your inventory?
This new trait system does not serve new or old players well. It just doesn’t. It is bad that ANET still hasn’t commented to so much as let us know that they’re working on it. I can only assume that they just do not give a kitten.
You have to be grouped with the people you’re supporting, then your mob tags will take into account the damage they have done too.
Also @Omar, not everyone plays purely to min-max loot, some people actually enjoy helping others, shocking I know.
The part I’ve bolded is not true, and has never been confirmed. I read somewhere that it improves how much guild influence is earned if you’re partied with members of your guild.
If you enjoy playing this game the way Anet wants you to play then so be it. Although, I would recommend actually reading the posts before making such a callous response regarding other players mentality. I wish I could go through life with blinders on too.
And I would recommend you to avoid implying that I “have blinders on” because I dare to think that it’s not as bad as you’re making it out to be.
But really, you’d think people would realize after 6 months of tugging on Anet’s skirt that they will not listen because it’s their game and they want it to remain like this because they like the change. It seems that after all, the charts did not show a massive enough downfall of players, which implies that whoever actually quit the game is in the minority.
April 15th was 6 months ago? Huh.
Are you looking at the job title of the “devs” responding to the customer support tickets and/or the gem purchasing difficulty questions? Chances are, those are people who are paid to respond to those sorts of things. The actual game developers aren’t paid to interact here, and given the direction the game has taken recently, it’s no wonder they’re not choosing to spend extra time with the customers.
Not all red posts are made by the people addressing the game concerns you’re interested in.

Though you do have some very valid points, have you tried ( from a new player with no saved up gold etc) to actually " play their way" and use the supposed flexability of builds since the patch…
Where for a lvl 30’s skill you have to be in a lvl 50 area, or kill a boss that takes a major event chain ( new player remember so no guild mates)
Or get slaughtered over and over in WvW when the trait you need is in a green area and they are dominating the war and you are red !
Or maybe you say buy them …. great but new players are going to need the skill points and for sure are not going to have all that gold as dungeon farming is basically lvl 80 onwards (lvl 80 Zerk only LFG ) especially now that new players are not going to have the needed traits……
Or you could just accept that you won’t necessarily have access to every trait in the tier just because you can equip them already. You don’t complain that you are not granted all the lvl 45 gear once you’re lvl 45, right?
Think of them as goals, not rewards.
There are 9 out of 30 adept-level traits that are achievable at level 36 via normal gameplay. Please, try to defend that.

I don’t remember ANet saying anything about adding housing, player or guild. So how is it late?
Yeah, this. I seem to recall that a Dev somewhere (maybe the horizontal progression CDI?) said that housing/guild halls were not even on the horizon.
Because the game doesn’t have a trinity system. Your support build is supposed to do damage as well. There’s no dedicated healing, just like there’s no dedicated tanking.
Rubber ducking hell. I made a new Ranger. I got to level 36 and you know what I got for my trouble….drumroll…..No pickable traits (power), not one, they’re all locked.
Sure I get the passive benefits but all traits locked what a joke. Who OK’d this? My reward for getting to level 36 is “Haha, suck it, look what you don’t get!”
What a heap of garbage.
Never fear! You can simply 100% map complete Blazeridge Steppes to get 1 trait for your trouble! Good luck!
Edit: I have been alerting people who ask about rerolling or buying new character slots in map chat about this system. The response is almost universally negative, for some reason.
Hey, guys! Good news! I was informed that the reason I can’t get an exchange is because I purchased the molten pick when it was still character bound and, thus, 800 gems. So for you guys who bought the bone pick or the molten pick at 1000 gems, it should be no problem to submit a ticket and get an exchanged pick! Either that or they were pointing out that the molten pick was 800 gems when I bought it for no apparent reason at all…
I’m pretty sure it’s intended, since that’s how the monocle works. And it’s more profitable, somehow.
Zyphent, it’s from the new living story zone.
Answer this:
Would you be cool with ANet adding two versions of each skin to the game, one tied to content and a more detailed, prettier one in the Gem Store?
Because that’s the best you’re gonna get. The cosmetics in the Gem Store are the biggest sellers and the Gem Store is where the money is at. You’re never going to get to a point where all the cosmetics are in the content.
Also, where would these skins come from? A new dungeon? WvW? World bosses? Random drops from mobs in a select area?
1. YES. They’d lose money doing this, though.
2. Living Story currency, if they’re tied to LS, or whatever else they’re tied to.
Especially now that lower level creatures have had their difficulty reduced because of the trait levels increasing, it’s even easier to kill them for comparable experience.
I don’t know
yes
you can get ascended gear in fractals now
no
they’re zerg fests and you kind of need to pay attention to stay alive.
You guys do realize anet defintely has the ability to release new ingame rewards as long with gemstore stuff too right?
It can’t be that hard to add actual rewards instead of stuffing literally every new reward behind a paywall? can it? It’s not possible to add both at the same time?
Apparently we’re “entitled” if we want both.
Anet likes to be coy about whether or not currencies will be returning so players will be inclined to hoard stuff.
