This is a good idea, and I’ll be watching it with interest to see if anyone does respond. My only question is just an amended version of your question about game population: It’s obvious that their numbers will be padded by the recent Chinese launch, so I’m wondering about regional populations. US and EU vs. one year ago.

Some of my friends were talking about buying new character slots for some new roleplay characters. I reminded them of the trait system, encouraged them to look it up on the wiki, and pointed out that buying a new character slot is like supporting the new system.

I will continue to actively discourage people from buying character slots, and I will continue being unable to recommend the game, and after four months, I have serious doubts that Anet intends to do anything meaningful with this system.

Game Updates: Wardrobe, Transmutation, Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

Before the wardrobe was introduced, I saved armor/clothes items that I liked in my bank so I could swap them on and off of a character to see which one I liked best after playing with it for a while. I thought that with the ability to reskin things I would free up inventory space and have more flexibility.

Honestly, I feel like I have less, and I’ve pretty much abandoned concentrating on how my character looks. I’m not going to pay transmutation charges to wear some armor skin for a few hours to decide if I like it or not, and then have to pay another set of charges to switch to another and play for a while and see if I like that one. It’s too expensive and wasteful in my opinion.

The wardrobe is a great idea, but the transmutation charge requirement just depletes all the fun out of it for me. It’s not a carefree decision anymore. Just another thing I have to rudiment over so I don’t make the wrong choice because I have to pay for that wrong choice.

I read a suggestion that some people had for having free reskins for lower level characters and have the reskin cost transmutation charges for level 80 characters instead. It think that would be a lot better because then I could mess around with lower level characters and see what skins I actually like best before committing to one on my level 80.

This is also the major reason I don’t buy gem store costumes. I’m not going to buy a skin with my real money to have to either use it forever (meaning no reason to buy another one), or pay to reskin it? That’s ridiculous.

As it stands now I just ignore the wardrobe feature and most of the skins because there is basically no “try out” period.

I don’t understand what this post means. This functions exactly as it did before (though there’s a slight increase in the price of transmuting before level 80, and a slight decrease in price after 80, as a sort of happy medium) the change, but now you unlock skins that can be transmuted whenever you want, on as many characters as you want. What “try out” period?

Anet won't unlock LS episodes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

I want to ask one question that bothers me. I unlocked part 1 of the current LS (Gates of Maguuma) on its release day and went on vacation right after it. The day before part 2 ended (Entanglement) I came back and I immediately finished part 1 story (on Tuesday…10 hours prior to The Dragon’s Reach) so I still can freely unlock also part 2.
.

I would guess that when server reset occurs (0:00 GMT, or 7:00 PM EDT) the computers at Anet switch over to the next day. Because you waited until the day that the next chapter went live, it was too late to unlock chapter 2. In other words, you could unlock chapter 2 on Monday, but once it became Tuesday it was too late. Computers are frustratingly exact and if programmed so that “this chapter locks after 7/28/14” then at 12:00:01 on 7/29/14 it’s locked. At this point there probably isn’t anything CS can do about it, the system is too new.

Next time, don’t wait until the last minute.

(Yes, I know it says “until the next episode goes live.” The programmers don’t write the marketing stuff, and the marketing guys don’t write the code.)

Yes, you are right, but that does not justify Support’s kittenty service. ANET support should not even exist, well ok it should exist but they should start by actually being able to respond differently than “cant help”.

Check the players logs and give him the necessary gems to unlock the kittenin episode if he is entitled to it and they cant manually unlock it. Done, everyone would be happy, but that would imply support actually having to do work/ticket and lowering their daily quota and looking worse than the other guy that just says no to everything all day…

Support has helped me plenty of times. And your assumption that he is entitled to the episode and support is kittening him over may be incorrect.

Hello, I recently crafted several pieces of Zojja’s Ascended heavy armor, and I want to put my current runes (Hoelbrak) on my new ascended pieces. However, the runes are stuck on my exotic set of armor that I purchased from the WvW armor vendor via gold and Badges of Honor. My plan was to salvage the exotic set with a black lion salvage kit and apply to the runes to my new set of ascended armor, but, alas, it is not meant to be.
I understand that, for whatever reason, ArenaNet is not comfortable with allowing players to use Badges of Honor as a way of making money [Purchasing armor through the WvW vendor with smaller amounts of gold (than their counterparts on the trading post) and some badges that the players earned through WvW participation] and then salvaging it to sell the materials they receive. But with the old transmutation stone/crystal system, would this rune transition not have been possible? I have been unable to overcome this obstacle through any reasonable means, if anyone has any suggestions on how to solve it, please let me know. I have edited an image to further explain my problem and how I feel.
http://i.imgur.com/BuddQAF.png
I hope that this problem can be addressed evenly, or even better the Wardrobe System can be amended, but I feel that there is little that can be done, and that really bums me out, man.

They did this so they would sell more of the upgrade extractor, available on the gemstore. But it’s still more cost effective to buy new runes, since the extractor is a one-time use item.

It’d be different if the “views” count were made up of “unique views” but I know that I have personally viewed and refreshed this thread countless times. There’s no telling how many or how few lurkers there are- if people want to be heard, they have to be willing to speak up. So far, 47 pages of posts (at least of posts that abide by the TOS) have been made. It’s significant in comparison to other threads.

I’m largely in favor of megaservers- they’ve mostly been positive for my experience, but it’s a little dishonest to act like the number of pages has no bearing on how important that thread is. This is not one or two people keeping the thread alive, either.

It sounds like a cheaper variant of the airship or pavilion pass except dumping you in your race’s home city with it’s free way points to most player services. The return option is kind of odd considering from the description you lose the ability to go back to where you were if you manually leave your instance. There is very little in your home instance in terms of services so why give it a PvP like return function?

I thought I saw where someone said trying to leave the home instance teleports them back to where they were, so there’s not even that.

I don’t understand anyone who is opposed to SAB. It’s not like you have to complete it in order to access your bank or traits or anything… it’s just a part of the game. It’s like… like… objecting to the mere existence of… well, anything in game. The crab toss. Dredgehaunt Cliffs. Vizier’s Tower. Sapphire dye. Belcher’s Bluff. 5 karma vendors who all sell the same stuff standing next to one another. Copper ore. Salvage kits. I don’t see anyone raging about the fact that these things exist in a persistent fashion in the game. What is it about SAB that evokes responses like this? There is literally no reason you have to even think about doing SAB if you don’t want to.

Update on my second account: I broke down and did some map completion and exploration on my ranger. It did not endear the system to me. I have a warrior and an engineer on that account for roleplay purposes. I’m usually pretty happy to move on and start leveling, but I am feeling no drive whatsoever to do that. The leveling experience is fine for me, but knowing that I’ll have to unlock the traits has just sucked all the fun out of it.

I have 2 empty character slots on this account, and they’re going to stay empty for the foreseeable future. I feel extremely lucky that I have 11 level 80s grandfathered in to the new system.

Improve Trait unlocking - Simple guidelines

Traits should unlock at level 15, and you should get 1 point every 5 levels. As for things to do in order to earn traits, someone suggested in the traits megathread that they use a similar system to skill challenges- mark them on the map with a trait symbol (hex), and let us start the event when we get there and anyone who participates also gets credit. This is basically the best idea I’ve heard, and it would buy a LOT of goodwill from me.

I’m actually really pleased with the transmutation charges, except that I have leftover stones from the old system that are useless. I like that they’re not physical items (not for long, anyway).

I could be mistaken but I’m pretty sure the old stones can be converted to charges. It just takes 3 stones for 1 charge, 1 crystal for 1 charge, and 1 splitter for 5 charges.

So, if you had 5 stones, you’ll be left with 2.

that only counts for normal stones, lvl 80-only stones are 1 charge for 1 stone

Yes, but I have two of the normal stones leftover, and it makes me sad.

Was about to reinstall, come back, and level anew.

No thanks, Anet.

Don’t believe everything you read on the forums. It’s not nearly as bad as people are making out. I’ve leveled a character and unlocked all the traits I need since the update. It is longer if you don’t buy the traits. But it’s not that much longer.

Liar. You have to go out of your way to get most of the traits man, don’t deny it. Therein lies the problem, if you wanted to level your character solely in WvW, you can’t because most of the traits will be locked by the time you hit level 80, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t have 80+ gold or 200+ skill scrolls to use. I doubt most people do.

Right if you’re a WvWer’ this is true, but every poll we’ve ever seen shows this game has far more PvEer’s. And as a PvE’er I didn’t particularly have to go out of my way. So calling me a liar makes you one. You shouldn’t throw words around if you can’t back them up.

Getting most of the traits in PvE is relatively easy…there are a handful of exceptions.

A handful of exceptions? I’d say the handful of exceptions are the relatively easy unlocks. Relative to level, relative to things I like to do in PvE, and relative to pre-patch traits.

This system (the unlocks, not the level changes, of course) should’ve been rolled out as an opt-in beta system, in stages, and everyone else should be, by default, considered grandfathered in. The first stage should have been the new grandmaster traits on April 15th. Next should have been the rest of the grandmaster traits. Then they should have taken all the feedback under consideration, made tweaks to the trait tasks, and then rolled out the master tier stuff. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Gender disparity aside (because I agree, at least in part, with Faowri’s post, regarding the idea of “male as default” (for Charr/Asura) is a disparity in and of itself), I actually think there are lots of good options for a range of modesty in female armors. I don’t think the female version of the assassin’s outfit is particularly revealing, but I do think it’s pretty unattractive, especially the “poofy” pants. That said, there are plenty of people who really like it, and I do not believe that every bit of artwork in a game should appeal to me.

its more like buy gems then convert them to gold to unlock them for better and faster experience.

Bingo. That’s why the system was designed, and why it’s not being changed..and why Colin isn’t piping in to say anything. This is what happens when your monetizer comes from Nexon.

That would almost make sense if they didn’t use skill points as a way to gate it. Because no matter how much you spend, you’re not buying skill points. You still have to play.

So your theory doesn’t really hold together.

Well, obviously you are not aware that you can get skill points by buying BL chests and keys.

Guessing that after an appropriate interval, you will be able to buy them directly for jewels.

I’m all for bashing on this system, but this is some tin foil hat level conspiracy theorizing. Using the fact that you have the chance to get skill scrolls from black lion chests as evidence that this system is designed to milk people for money is really weak. If anything, they’re losing money on extra character slots that people might otherwise buy. Nobody seriously buys keys in the hopes of getting a skill point out of them. That’s just absurd.

Add filter to Armor on Trading Post?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Every time I look for armor on the Trading Post I find it really annoying and time consuming when I have to look through all three types of armor (Light, Medium, Heavy) when obviously one character can only use one of the three… I’m not sure if this has been suggested before, but I think it would cut a lot of time out of looking for armor on the Trading Post if there was a Light, Medium, or Heavy filter under Armor.

It has been suggested many, many, many times. Because it is basic functionality that the TP should have had on release. Ideally, there’d be a “usable by this character” box to tick on the filters, but sorting by armor weight is long overdue. +1, and preach.

Thinking on this, they really should have gone all out when it came to the trait rework, not a mess like this. The traits SHOULD have unlocked as you play through the game normally depending on what you do and how you play your class (meaning most class traits require specific actions), starting when you unlocked traits for the first time (level 30 in this case). It would turn from the mess it is now into a case of pure brilliance as how you played would equal what you got. Below is an example using just the traits in the Thief Shadow Arts traitline and the Engineer Tools traitline to illustrate how I would make it work.

Shadow Arts
I Master of Deception: Use Deception type skills 30 times.
II Slowed Pulse: Suffer the Bleeding condition 100 times.
III Shadow Protector: Give 100 allies stealth.
IV Shadow’s Embrace: Use Hide in Shadows 20 times.
V Infusion of Shadow: Use stealth 100 times.
VI Cloaked in Shadow: Use Blinding Powder 30 times while in combat.
VII Power Shots: Kill 100 enemies with a Shortbow or Harpoon Gun.
VIII Hidden Thief: Steal while in Stealth 100 times.
IX Leeching Venoms: Use 200 charges of Skelk Venom.
X Patience: Spend a total of 3000 seconds in stealth (meaning over all stealth uses)
XI Shadow’s Rejuvenation: Use Shadow Refuge 200 times.
XII Venomous Aura: Use Venom skills 1000 times.
XIII Resilience of Shadows: Get hit in stealth 1000 times.

Tools
I Always Prepared: Use Med Kit ability Drop Bandages 50 times.
II Static Discharge: Use offensive tool belt skills 30 times.
III Speedy Gadgets: Use gadget skills 50 times.
IV Kit Refinement: Equip an offensive kit 30 times.
V Deployable Turrets: Use 50 turrets (meaning actually throw them out, not their ability after they’re out)
VI Speedy Kits: Equip a kit 100 times.
VII Packaged Stimulants: Use the Med Kit skills 1000 times.
VIII Power Wrench: Use Tool Kit skills 1000 times.
IX Scope: Get 200 criticals with the Pistol and Rifle.
X Leg Mods: Spend 10000 seconds total under chill, cripple, or immobilized statuses (not at the same time, of course)
XI Armor Mods: Get hit over a million times.
XII Adrenal Implant: Dodge 1000 times.
XIII Gadgeteer: Use Gadget skills 500 times.

Things like that. It would be basic for the Adepts, Masters would get a little more specific and tedious, and Grandmaster…hoo boy, that can require some serious work.

This would encourage players to experiment more with their profession’s abilities, rather than sticking with one setup. I really like this concept overall.

I would just like to say that Claw Island was emotionally moving to me twice (Whispers/Vigil). I’ve never been so fond of any character in the story as I was of the former.

I was hoping this would work itself out, but it hasn’t, so I would like to mention it.

There are several events in the world boss lineup in particular that it’s nearly impossible to get credit for if you even blink. I have done Maw more often than many others, so I’ll focus on the pre-events for it (Svanir Shaman world boss in Wayfarer Foothills).

Grawl attack Krenneck’s Homestead, protect Scholar Brogun, dragon totem, Defeat the shamans, and close the portals are the events that lead up to the spawn of Maw. All of these should scale according to the number of players in the area. With mobs being weaker due to the trait changes, these guys die in a couple of shots from a level 80, and I’m lucky if I get credit for bronze participation. Spawn more grawl, more help, more portals, and make the totem have significantly more health (when the group demands it). I mean, if you blink, you will miss the dragon totem event. I was shocked to discover that killing the shamans he summoned was an event of its own when I lucked into it one day.

There are many escort events that don’t seem to scale with the crowd at all, and it’s frustrating to miss an event because of the sheer amount of people present. It makes it feel like games with tagging, to be honest, because it’s another kind of competition for kills, instead of cooperation.

tbh, I feel the gemstore tools need more of an advantage than just animation, and all tools should drop something extra.

Yes!! I bought the wwpick last time it was on sale and I LOVE it. Gathering is fun again, like it was before the unid dyes were removed from the drop table for plants. I have two other unlimited picks that are kind of pointless now though. The only reason I haven’t asked for a refund on the gems or to convert them into wwpicks is because I’m hoping they will be changed to drop something extra too at some point.

Support will not convert your other picks into watchwork picks.

Wow, it seems that over 8 months ago I actually jokingly asked for exactly what the OP has realized. If you scroll down to the last paragraph at the bottom of my post you will see what I mean.

Seriously, bravo. You are almost spot on, there. (And I actually like the new guys, so… maybe this is why?)

Game Updates: Traits

Maybe Anet should make trait tomes that worked like skill tomes in Guild Wars 1.

In Guild Wars 1, if you had a skill unlocked on one character, you could use a tome to unlock it on another character, without going out and capturing it. Tomes were dropped in hard mode and could be bought for Zaishen Coins, roughly the equivalent of laurels.

It would give people a way to unlock the stuff on their first character and never do it again if they want to spring for a tome.

This is a fantastic idea, and would go a long way toward making the system better. I still think the requirements need a massive overhaul, though.
