Because getting weapons/armor with gold is a bad thing? Go play any content you want, anything you will make gold, exchange for gems and get the weapon/armor you want. No longer do you need to fight that fish 200 times with the hope of it dropping Super Fin of death. Now just fight anything collect gold, buy Super Fin of death.

You must’ve liked the Auction House in Diablo 3. Buying stuff just isn’t as fun as actually finding it. Sure you can kill that fish 200 times or even more, but when you finally see that Super Fin of Death drop, man…is it a glorious day! It feels so good. As it does with Diablo 3. Actually getting an awesome legendary drop feels SO much more rewarding than hopping into the AH and buying it.

I played WoW killing a boss in one of the raid dungeons probably a good 100 times trying to get a shield that looked like a wall with spikes. It was going to rock on my dwarf warrior, it dropped one night and went to the paladin. I proceeded to quit for a while.

That just makes you a quitter. Yes, it sucks seeing the drop you want going to someone else, but I always was happy for people in my pugs when they get sweet sweet loot and I never got anything good the entire time I played Guildwars1&2.

I believe the post you’re responding to was talking about how purples in WoW were soulbound and it dropped when he was on his paladin, not raging because it went to a paladin in the group. But maybe I’m wrong.

Aleglast, you do realize that we got that patch two months ago, right?

The “really big feature patch” was the april 15 feature patch.

Lol i can gurantee you we are going to get something huge on july first, and then i get to say i told you so.

what would you care to wager?
If you honest to god believe they are going to drop something bigger than what the feature patch on april 15 did, you are delusional.

Its going to be a simple LS addition… similar to what we have been seeing since the release of the bi-weekly LS cycle lol… you make it sound like anet is about to add xpac like content as in new skills/weapons/races/dungs…. just gonna be a nice little zone with some achievements and events to go zerg surfing, maybe a few cosmetics..

I will take enough pleasure in saying i told you so.

The interview you quoted was Colin talking about the April 15 feature patch. It literally has feature in how they referred to it. But if you want to hold your breath, then by all means…

That interview talked about a heck of alot more than just april patch pal, and you can believe what ever you want, i dont rlly care, the point is, I am right. And you will find out, and i will laugh.

Is not a bug, they are 3 different items with stats and all, is not a skin

Most items that share a skin name will unlock all iterations of that skin. You don’t have to unlock all prefixes of a greatsword in order to be able to use its skin on any prefix of a greatsword. That’s the inconsistency.

There were horned helm skins that were awarded for some event, and there were specifically 3 of them that unlocked the weight class separately. And the look in game was identical for all of them, if I remember correctly.

And there are three weights of the zephyrite helm skins, but having one weight unlocks all three weights. I’m fairly certain having just one of the dragon helms unlocks all of them, as well.

Glossary of Abbreviations, Jargon and Terms

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

Quality of Life: In relation to GW2 means any sort of improvement that is not strictly necessary but greatly enhances the quality of the experience. Changing dungeon tokens from physical items to wallet currency was a QoL improvement. It just makes life easier on/happier for the players.

Holy Trinity: The standard MMO setup has three traditional roles. Tanks, who have high hit points and take a LOT of damage. DPS: (Stands for damage-per-second) These people do lots of damage and are protected by the tank(s), and healers. The healers generally don’t do or take damage, but cure conditions, heal and otherwise keep the rest of the group alive.

CDI: Forum abbreviation for a project initiated by ANET, the Collaborative Development Initiative. The devs take a topic and discuss it for several weeks with the forum community, and then implement ideas based on those interactions.

kitten: I frequently use this in-game, but only recently realized that there were people who’ve never been to the forum and don’t realize it’s the profanity filter here. So I’ll say “What the actual kitten, dude!” figuring it gets my point across, when it’s probably just mostly baffling.

LFG: Looking for group.
LFM: Looking for more.
WTB: Wanting to buy.

Honestly, it might be more beneficial to just ask people what an abbreviation is. And if you don’t want to ask publicly, I’m totally willing to help out via private message. I can’t say I know them all, but I recognize a lot of ’em.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

The new trait system would be ok if there were dozens of new traits in every line, and every level of mastery.

As far as I can tell, there is but a single new GM trait in each line to unlock.

With so little choice, this trait system seems like just another “you have to be this tall to ride this ride” prerequisite system.

If there were tons of traits, scattered throughout the world, this wouldn’t seem so bad, would it?

New characters have to unlock all 65 traits in order to be able to use them. It does seem bad.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Guhracie.3419

..Sigh. I might cover the rest of the trait lines (for Warrior, anyway), but I think I’ve made my point.

Trait unlocks are the same across professions. They go by line and numbers I-XIII. There’s no variation from this formula.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait_guide

This part is a general response to those defending this system:

This has a breakdown of traits by level near the bottom. The level 50-60 list has 6 adept traits of the 9 objectives. A fifth of the available adept traits are not available until levels 50-60. 4 adept traits can be obtained in wvw, and are listed as being available to all levels, since you get upscaled. Make of that what you will.

10 adept traits are available from 40-50. More than half of the adept trait objectives are level 40+. This accounts for 20 of the 30 traits available. Of the 10 that are level appropriate, 3 of them are map completion, including Lornar’s Pass, which may as well be grouped with the 40-50 bunch, since it ranges from 25-40. Hopefully your chosen profession has some useful traits among those 9 that are achievable by level 36.

Simplify Currencies [suggestion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

The purpose for each of these currencies is to allow only players who participate in a particular activity to get rewards available only to those who participate.

You want “that” dungeon armor, then do that dungeon. You want “that” WvW armor, do WvW. Etc.

If everything is gold or a shared currency for a type of activity like dungeons, then players can choose an easier event to accumulate currency to purchase items currently available from doing a much tougher event. This will drive the skill=exclusive reward players through the roof.

You can’t just do open world PvE and expect to be able to get all rewards available from all aspects of the game. Having rewards tied to specific activities that aren’t required for general gameplay is perfectly fine. I’m actually disappointed that they backtracked from this philosophy with PvP (I’m not a PvP player).

I don’t want dungeons to have shared currency- they’re fine, since they are wallet currency.

Actually, I’d be fine if all living story/festival tokens were part of the wallet. That way I wouldn’t have to look at them. But I’d be even happier if they were universal, so that the odds and ends wouldn’t keep taunting me. It’s aggravating to have, for example, 24 molten codes, or 8 fortune scraps just hanging out.

Best and Worst of GW2 -- An Opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

I can’t understand why so many people are bashing the GW2 community saying it’s bad and all that. Looks like that you’ve actually spent so much time on here that you forgot how much worse the community is on other video games.

I came to GW2 from Dota 2 and CS:GO and the one thing that made me feel addicted to this game right on my second day around was the extremely friendly community around. And day after day I still meet friendly people or people who note that the community here is super friendly.

Maybe if you get off the General Discussions forums, where everyone pretty much only cries and complains, for a few days and get down on the game you might realize what an awesome community we have here.

Anyway, back on topic:

Best: GW2 in general, music, beauty of the game;
Worst: Traits system as it is at the moment.

This. I love the gw2 community.
Best: no competing for gathering nodes or tagging kills (except in massive events, thanks to the megaservers), Waypoints, Tybalt, artwork, community (my main guild, in particular), beautiful armor/weapon skins, dynamic combat system (I can move while casting), lack of trinity roles, Festival of the Four Winds, the sense of humor, all the details in NPC behavior/dialogue, Sanctum Sprint, Super Adventure Box, Josh Foreman, the gauntlet, the devs listening to the community and implementing ideas from the CDI threads, frequent updates with no sub, free to apply outfits, pink hair, the quaggan who says, “I’m a pi-wate!” during halloween, The Dreamer, music, mesmers who port to jumping puzzles… I seriously could go on. There’s a lot to like, here. Edit: I forgot Gaile Gray! And John Smith! And downscaling, so I’m never out of sync with my friends!

Worst: Quaggans (seriously, they’re so creepy, except the one I mentioned above), the current iteration of the trait system, townclothes as tonics, lack of precursor crafting, the fact that there’s no way to sort by armor class on the trading post- come on, ANET, this is basic stuff- the way Halloween recipes were totally borked, the design of the Crown Pavilion, disappointing storytelling, conditions, the total lack of communication from ANET about issues with the Feature Patch, the shameful Fractals reset and Chris Whiteside’s refusal to comment on it after promising he would, pet AI, engineers can’t use hammers, lack of a “do not disturb” status setting, lack of a real (effective) “invisible” setting, lack of any PvE location that is server specific (Lion’s Arch would be perfect for this), the trading post resetting my searches when I change tabs, message suppression and how it works, the lack of really compelling loot tables. Lots of room for improvement, too. Edit: I forgot Logan Thackery! And Treesus!

Bank Tab Expansion Issue

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

No it doesn’t, it simply remembers the last X number of things you bought. If it has a limited history then it can’t reliably look back and determine a total. That history is kept in the store’s database of you. Still can’t look into your account.

The reason why if you try to buy tabs of bag slots in either the bank or inventory screen and have it tell you that you can’t buy anymore is because the game database does know exactly how many limited items you have and can sanity check it before launching the store UI to complete the sale. Once you are in the TP window, that’s an entirely different program and different databases.

That still doesn’t explain how the gemstore interface knows that I can’t purchase another Black Lion Introductory Package.

Except the store can’t look at a player’s account. That’s why items like Bank Tabs can’t be gifted. All it can do is mail the item to the player’s account. It’s the way you keep the databases from mixing.

The store CAN look at a player’s account. There’s a history listing of my purchases right on the main page. Additionally, there is at least one item (The Black Lion Introductory Package) that can only be purchased once, and then the store does not allow further purchases. [Suggestions] Gemstore Items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Guhracie.3419

What I would most like to see in the gemstore are new outfits. Not odd stuff like you have been doing, but things that look ordinary. Things the average person would wear while out wandering. So that we can have a consistant look as we level without blowing 3-6 transmute charges every few levels. You have a good one for Asura necros (bloody prince) and the Sylvari has one (the cook’s outfit), but that is all. It would be nice to see a decent, medieval-style shirt, trews, and boots for man, and simple dress for women with a bodice for form and slippers. Please? Pretty please? Pretty please with bon-bons on top?

The bloody prince outfit actually looks really sweet on my Sylvari in bright colors that complement her skin tone. I just make sure not to have the helm enabled. I’m also quite fond of the newest outfit, ancestral garb. But I’d love to see more outfits, also! I might break out my wallet for a couple of new looks.

Anet, please give us the paper bag mood helms!

And just sell permanent hairstyle/makeover kits. Maybe make the newest features unlockable with gems, so they’re not drying up your sales entirely.

I really wish there were more ways to personalize outfits. I know there’s the ability to do that sort of thing, given the whole emblem system, but if there were options to hide parts of it and maybe pick a pattern, that would make outfits so much better.

You don’t understand how the boss blitz works if you think anyone is being griefed because they’re “holding” the boss for burn. Some groups get bosses down faster than others, for a variety of reasons related to group makeup. So if Sparcus is at 80% and Kuraii is at 10%, nobody is griefing “that guy” by saying, "Hey, stop dps on Kuraii until Sparcus is lower, and don’t run to each boss and kill them, or Boom-Boom will take forever to get down and we’ll get worse rewards. Everyone, including “that guy,” is getting worse rewards because he is not playing the strategy.

I understand perfectly how boss blitz works having led several boss groups to 20-30 gold runs every night for the last three weeks with consistent 2:00+ on the clock on most night as well as having 3:30+ on the clock on the best night.

In your example, if Kuraii is already 10% and Sparc still at 80%. If you know there are random pugs who would keep attacking you should have stopped Kuraii at 50% then send some people to speed up Sparc. If you can’t do that then you’re not as organized and you don’t deserve a gold chest.

It is meant for extremely organized group and if you’re not an organized group then gold reward isn’t for that group, just like the Evolved Jungle Wurm. And guess what? a silver or a even a bronze isn’t that bad.

Yes, ideally all the bosses will burn down at the same time with four or so minutes to spare. But it’s pretty obvious that many instances of the Pavilion are far from ideal. And if the boss is scaled right, all it takes is one or two people attacking and that 20% melts away. To say that a random PUG of 70 people should be able to make allowances for ten people who don’t care or don’t bother to pay attention is really not true.

The 10 people shouldn’t be to make allowance for the 70 grumpy people to get a gold reward either. If they can’t take it and get a silver/bronze then they need to take a break and chill. The 10 people are not breaking any rule. They are playing contents as it is designed to be played, i.e., kill the bosses as fast as possible (within their capability).

In a sense telling them to hold and kill the bosses at the same time can be considered as an exploit because you essentially stop the bosses from giving each other’s their power by giving them practically no time – but this is just one way to look at things – not my personal opinion.

This level of strategy is not suited for open-world. You can tell because ideal runs happen most often in instances populated by coordinated guilds or groups of guilds. Ideal runs happen when people force it to become essentially a private raid.

Yup All of the runs I’ve been with have Teamspeak coordination. Granted there are pugs who sometimes killed bosses sooner. And yes I’ve taken about 122 silvers and 64 bronzes out of the 1394 runs I’ve done, but most of the time we managed.

Why should so few people be able to so effectively ruin an event for so many? A festival event, no less. It doesn’t make sense, and it’s bad.

Maybe sit back and enjoy a few silver/ bronzes instead of freaking out “OMFGYUNOOOB Killing BOOSSS EARLY”? It’s a festival, chill

I am not abusive to other players, first of all. You don’t know me; don’t suggest that I’m spouting the “OMFGYUNOOOB” mentality. The blame for this is squarely on ANET.

You lost me when you suggested that holding off on killing the bosses could be viewed as an exploit. No. It cannot. It can be viewed as the only viable kittening strategy by which to earn gold rewards. Tell you what. You get gold BB killing the bosses one at a time (since preventing them from gaining the skills of the other bosses is what makes it a potential exploit, by your suggestion) and put it on youtube, and I will grovel before your greatness.

Back in the real world, though, I will point out that this is obviously the strategy ANET intended with this design, despite doing nothing to facilitate it.

I seriously cannot believe that there are people defending the design choices ANET made here. I guess it’s lucky that some people enjoy having their rewards locked behind 60 people, and that they also enjoy not knowing if those people will care to help or hinder in the fight. Or if half of those people are taking up space in the instance, doing the gauntlet- which I am, right now.

I guess ANET lucked out with players who are so chill with spending time trying to get to an organized instance if they want gold rewards, or who are happy to spend two hours on a bronze blitz so that everyone can play the way they want to. Seems legit.

Yes, starting with season 2. Season 1 wasn’t designed with this in mind, so they’re having to figure out how to make it work, and it’ll take longer.

But if you log in at all during the time period the living story is active, it’ll be unlocked for your account to play anytime. The only time you’ll have to pay is if you miss it entirely, and want to play it.

This reminds me of the commander in Edge of the Mists who kept leading the team straight to BL and FR zergs so they could kill us for easy loot bags.

Sure it can be annoying but unless you’re completely mindless, the solution is simple. No one is forcing you to follow zerg, in fact champs there can be taken down with very small groups and we do it all the time as a guild.

There are dozens of other ways for you to quickly farm gold in this game, don’t kitten yourself on just one.

It’s responses like this that make me not want to bother with the forum at all. This thread has nothing to do with wanting to follow a zerg. This has to do with badly designed content that is easily made not fun by only a few people because of the “play how you want” mindset.

When there’s strategy involved, “play how you want” doesn’t benefit the group, and that is why this sort of content should either be instanced in the first place or not contingent on the entire map following one strategy. Anet, you are supposed to be game designers, here. How is it that I know more about game design than you do?

I wasn’t making a commentary on what might be released, I’m just saying that particular interview was referencing the April 15th Feature patch.

I don’t believe there’ll be new races, but there might be build templates.

1. Why does he/she have to play the way you want him/her to play? By all mean those bosses event are meant to be for everyone. Everyone has the right to get a shot at it. You are griefing him by holding just as much as him killing it and not holding? Who are you to define how he should play?

2. If the ENTIRE coordinated group can’t take into account of one or even ten people attacking too much and look ahead and say “well they are going to keep attacking, we should stop at 20% and have them keep going”, then this claimed-to-be-coordinated group FAILS

3. You could do better by killing the other bosses faster by matching them accordingly. There have been groups that finished with 4:30 mins on the clock. No need to “hold” for burn.

This happans to several special skins, propably because anet does not want to spoiler them to new players.

I don’t see this being the reason in this case, since keeping a gemstore skin hidden is not a great way to make sales on the item.
