LOTRO and DDO both allowed you to earn the currecny you could buy for real money as well from doing certain things in the game, not from trading it for the normal ingame currency so not totally new yet somehow a bit still
Although this is quite an old post I just combined some rings and earrings into the Mystic Forge and I got a darksteel earing. I’m a level 315 jeweler. Anyway, I’m quite happy because its worth close to 10 gold.
somehow i doubt that and it is certainly NOT 10g worth since it ahve the EXACT same stats and lvl req as a rare “ruby platinum earring” (whihc even then comes with a ruby jewel inserted so you don’t have to go and spend that if you find with having same stat combo in the upgrade slot, which is only about 60s or so on TP
In my opinion guild wars 2 needs to…..get rid of level scaling.
Level-scaling is one of GW2’s major selling points.
If you don’t like it, you should find a different game. GW2 is designed for players who want/like level-scaling. Your demands will fall on deaf ears here.
It’s never going away, and will probably only be emphasized more so in the future as it was last patch.
Arena Net wants leveling to feel irrelevant, and for 2 very legitimate reasons:
- No ghost-town zones. All zones being playable at max-level. (And the issue is reduced, but progressive reward-rates keep the issue prevalent)
- Pro-grouping. High level players can play their ‘main’ instead of making an alt when a friend joins the game.
I have found level scaling to be for whiners. It eliminates the need to have levels at all. If level scaling exists then using levels in a game should be eliminated. You can have one or the other but not both if the game is going to have some semblance of uniformity. Level scaling reduces a games character to being the equivalent of 1st level throughout the game. There is no sense of power of your character, no satisfaction of gaining a level and frankly makes irrelevant using levels at all. And no level scaling is not a huge selling factor for this game. The big selling factor for this game is the fact it fosters a “help your fellow player” idea. When I started playing this game I was amazed when someone I didn’t know nor was playing with stopped to revive me when I died. Now THAT is a big selling point of this game. I had never before experienced that in a game. Level scaling on the other hand really takes something away from the game by removing the satisfaction you feel from your hard work of leveling your character. It should NEVER be used in a game.
this again… even with lvl scaling my lvl 80 condition build (with only base power) 2-3 shots mbos in the lowest lvl areas that is less than what my power built lowbies can do, so yes she certainly gained a lot of power… i actually wish lvl scaling was more strict
Thanks for making my point. “Even with my level 80 condition build…2-3 shots…” That makes my point exactly. You STILL have to take 2-3 shots to kill something in the lowest areas at level 80?! LOL…that is ridiculous. The fact that scaling bumps you back that close to lower level power is completely absurd.
no it does NOT, i play a condition build becasue i want my conditions to kill not my direct damage, im sure a power build would one shot easily so i did NOT prove your point, my point is it si still a cakewalk to do the lower lvl areas too much of a cakewalk… anyway this is actually quite offtopic, so maybe talk about something relavant to what the topic was created or go to a different thread about lvl scaling…

Daecollo, did you ever read what everyone in this post said?! They countered your point with this: through the culling in zergs you CAN’T see the thief, even while his stealth is gone, so you can’t know where your enemy is and you get hit out of thin air.
and then i refer you to the 2. point in NinjaEd.3946 latest reply, which countered that complain very nicely
before it get anywhere near decent it need to be based on a certain amount of % of total ppl that is currently in the map, not a fixed number, you know the big guilds out there could easily field 2-3 times your 35 ppl just to demote a commander for lols
you’re right, but the number has to be something large enough to make it somewhat difficult to do but also not impossible to achieve. i don’t know how many people are on a map at one time.
it could also be limited to a certain number of people from each guild.
the number of ppl on the map doesnt really matter just have to be a % number of the ppl on th map at the time the vote is going one (and limiting it per guild is not doing anything either, since you could just make several guils and split your members across it. i would say something like 65-70% or ppl on the map at that time sound about fair, that is quite a bit above half and if over half the population dont want him to lead it seem fine that he dont get to, and at the same time it high enough that ignorant ppl still dont get in the way of the legit votes

While i agree in the meantime if you hover your mouse over the actual price fields, and scroll your mouse it goes one up or down for each scroll
no its just decrease the cd on the skills
If you think the D/D thief is bad, try fighting a pistol/dagger thief…
hit invis hit invis hit invis etc… no time to target, at range he easily dodges aoe … total win for him :-)hmm hit invis(hide in shadow) hit invis(blinding powder) hit invis(shadow refuge) etc ehmm the etc have any more invis? how? you just used all the invis options you ahve for invising at range (cloak and dagger require you get close in melee range)
They find a way every time thats how they bounce around a whole zerg for like 2 minutes
i was replying to that pistol dagger thief scenario which would not be near as deadly as what you are talking about, since he cant keep invising at range.
That said for your nerf what we need is NOT a nerf to the thief but a proper fix to culling 2 VERY different things. Thiefs are fine, culling is NOT. But as others mentions it is likely D/D backstab thieves not hs spam. Heart seeking spam is stupid from the thieves Point of view in fact, a heartseeking on a target with more than 50% health barely does more dmg that #1 dagger, but still cost 3 ini, so hs first become really a viable option on target under 50% health and only really deadly when they drop below 25%.
Also invis is NOT invulnerability, throw some aoes around if you throw enoguh well he got to be hit and those D/D backstab builds are very fragile first d/d is a very offensive wep set in itself not real survivability in it, and those backstab builds uses all thei utilities as well for those high numbers of backstab damage, and are usually full beserker gear so very squishy
(edited by GummiBear.2756)
Also keep in mind you can make tuning crystals with artificer which at higher grade give another +6% condition dmg from your toughness (as well as 4% from your vitality too)

The majority of bots that are smart enough to play a MMO in the first place are smart enough to read a captcha, likely faster than any human being in fact
But it’s stealth, not phasewalking.
yep, or shadow-stepping which is another thing the thieves does
Very small quaggan backpack on Asura- could it be sized up?
in Suggestions
Posted by: GummiBear.2756
Yes! I agree whole heartedly. Please make the asuran backpack bigger. Looking at the other races, all their backpacks are like slightly larger than the character models’ heads. I want a quaggan backpack larger than my head!
well and asura head is biggers compared to their bodies, than others races, and my bet is it is the total height of the character it is dependant on, not the size of their heads
becasue it is a weapon skill
Shy Lilac seem to be the best actually, despite this i chose Blacklights response as the best answer, as it will be the most helpful if other people should have same problem and stumble upon this thread, so thanks to both of you
while technically true arca, they give according to wiki 6 of the stats they each give, which will hardly make a difference anywhere
I would like to use the same color (or a color very close to at least) as the color of the “skin” on my sylvari thief, however i created her back at headstart and cant really remember the name of that color, and dont currently have any unlocked that is really close enough, so if anyone got an idea what the color might be i would appreciate it a lot
Ascended amulet (30 days)
I would more say 20 days for that since you get 10 laurel for monthly
“Cof LF3M Zerk war P1 Farm zerk war team only” I just read on the gw lfg site.
There sure is something wrong but is it with mentality of some people or role design?
The other day a thief just got kicked from the group for being a thief.
Really felt sorry for the old bugger. And I ask myself whats up with all the " you have to be warrior to join" thing. They are good for some parts but certainly are not the best choice for everything.
Perhaps there should come a system that punishes groups/people that do more than 2 runs with a full group of the same profession.
Or give a profession specific buffs in dungeons ,so its more rewarding to have a somewhat diverse team;like if you have a thief in the team you get a bonus to gold dropping from mobs.or the guardian gives 5 procent chance to instant rally from down, while a mesmer could give a karma bonus, necro condition duration,…
When you then kick a profession without any nagging or nono words detected from the player your group gets a debuff to the corresponding profession that got kicked->thief is less gold during the dungeon and final reward, guardian a 5 procent chance to instant die when half of your downbar is empty
ehmm no, this would make it even worse with ppl speculating into the most efficient buffs from taking certain professions only, so then some professions would truely be screwed over cause they happened to be giving the less efficient buffs
1, is a yes, 2 and 3 i dont know
1. no this is NOT a F2P it is a B2P (Buy-to-play) but that kinda irrelevant anyway, F2P or P2P or B2P (the latter being the least amount of games of) all other mmos take a WAY longer time to get to max level, and if you really want you can craft your way to 80 supposedly in a few hours
nope, and it does state quite clearly in its tooltip they are unique
first of all you cant expect a answer within 13 hours of posting a thread… 2nd there is multiple threads on same topic already
I getting this too, playing on EU
it isnt, im using the glamour recharge cd in my build but it dont reduce time warp cd, would be way too op too… 11sec duration instead of 10 and 20% less cd and blind ppl who goes in and then have the trait confuses ppl when you blind them… i dont even want to think about how stupid it would be
@Kenage: well its called awareness… simply dont spam skills when youa re confused, unless it is a condition removal or heal maybe, and if you dont realise this sepcaily as a mesmer, well you really should get a bit more awareness sense
I wonder if you ever had a lvl 80 character… yes you get scaled and all but a lvl 1 character is still not anywhere near as strong as a lvl 80
If im not mistaken, none of the ascended items from the laurel vendor was ever intended to have the ability to be infused with agony resistance (not even the rings), just the items you get from fractals.
ehmm aint the rings for the laurel vendor the exact same rings you get from fractals?
Yes i was talking about personal bank, not guild bank
Not to mention sometimes you want to trade one item to ANOTHER item with someone, for this the TP is not even and option so instead we have the mail which have no guarantee that the other person sends you his item… and seriously peer-to-peer trading being insecure? a proper built system where first both parts have to lock in their trade and after that they both have to accept, and if someone changes something on his side before both are locked they automatically get unlocked, will never get more secure…
gw2 killed all competion between players in pve.
for better or worse.
(imo there need to be some, a few, element that indicate “this guys good”, but i can live without it i guess)
Is it neccesary with competition between PvE players here?
We have no PvE equaliant of WvW ingame (Raids, for example.) So i can’t see the reason why anyone would want to showboat. There’s not much to brag about.Other than your skill of dodging, or staying out of red circles.
Yep totally agree here in fact this game is built on cooperation rather than competition in pve
I agree with this, while it is not yet that big of an issue as long as only jewelry exist (lets face it the majority of players likely have the upgrade slot the same stat combo as the base jewellery anyway before when exotics was the best. But is still and issue already, and i wont begin to think of the amount of unique items they would have to create once we get to ascended armor and weapons with all the runes/sigils as well as jewels you can insert into them, would be thousands and thousands of items
But everyone’s stats get that reduction while underwater, so… is it really that big of an issue?
One thing is the reduction, and well we have been living with it so far, but you know mbos that can be on both land and in water don’t get reduction in their stats im pretty sure when they go underwater, so yeah it is an issue. The biggest issue is the lack of stat combination
Ascended waterbreathers please! And make the AR only work when underwater.
… we dont even have ascended helms yet… would need that first or at least at same time before you could even begin to think about ascended waterbreathers…
Agrees with Toxyn here, it could only have a negative effect, and honestly in 99% of cases it takes no effort to get to gold anyway, if it were some kind of bar rising you would likely get dizzy seeing it rise so fast anyway :P
Hell sometimes i get gold for events i don’t even remember seeing let alone participate in
Yep kinda silly, well kinda lucky for my first lvl 80 he was using rabid gear but still masterwork means a loose quite a bit underwater, and well i fear for my thief as hes using a power build… how am i supposed to get a proper waterbreather for him?
ehmm well yeah there is a few places, where you get lvled below mobs true but honestly the majority of places you are a few lvl’s above and that + the fact you got better quality gear than ppl at that lvl have access to on top of all your traits, you should still be utterly destroying mobs 90% of the time… really my condition build (only got base power) lvl 80 mesmer is still 2-3 shoting mobs in the lowest lvl area…
@Halanna: Then you never played any of the proper F2P games, there are certainly games out there where you dont dont need to spend ANY money at all, DDO (dungeons and dragons online) or LOTRO being two, where the currency you actually can pay for can also be earned by playing the game normally
Use gw2lfg.com
Some smart person did in a few weeks what ANet couldn’t do in years. They should hire this person.
you know… it is WAY more simple to make a webbased list ppl can submit LFG’s to than it would ever be incorporating it ingame. even if they took gw2lfg directly and copied it all, and we assumed the coding would work for the parts it stands for (which in itself is unlikely) they maybe get 5% of the work needed done only. And on top of that Anet have more stuff to do than just implementing a lfg feature, unlike the person that made gw2lfg.
No im not saying ANet shouldn’t make one, but only that it is not as simple as you make it sound
I wonder why so many people complain about thief backstab builds then, as per your definition they should be a crappy build…
I’m curious why it won’t let you use the name “Jewel”, but there is a trade called “Jeweler”.
Probably for the same reason there is a Kessex Hills in the game but the profanity filter turns it into Kes*** Hills in chat. The names of things in the game are handled differently from character creation or chat.
they should add an exception in the chat that if you type “Kessex” or “kessex” it should allow it but ANY other combination would be censored imo (Even KeSsex should be censorered) since you are actually writing and ingame area name then
Sorry, I had to go to work.
Anyhow whoever is curious about this, the answer is..
No, you will not lose your progress.
After I delete every character and transferred, My Laurel, Gem, and my Account Medal including sPvP Rank remained the same.
If you don’t mind making another 80 from a scratch and gather all the mats and all the Karam you need, this might be an option for you.
Cheers.
What about items in your bank? since bank is account-wide as well do you keep the stuff in there?
as sopp said it goes towards HoM points, which is already 100% more in gw2 than you would get for doing something similar in any other franchise
or maybe just a simple relatively easy to do mystic forge recipe that upgrade a lvl 80 legendary to a lvl 85 legendary, that way ppl can upgrade when they are ready for it, with minimal cost, something like a few skills points worth of crystals/philosophers stones, some dust and something else that easy to get
But really… lvl increase wont be anytime soon, yes they said they do it at some point, and an expansion is likely a good geuss, but i dont think we are anywhere near a real expansion
(Owning it however does.)
and THAT is the reason it is a “silly notion” Free-to-play means it is free to BUY AND PLAY, which is not the case, thus B2P (buy-to-play) is what it is NOT F2P
Rule #2: Team
Yes, I know they’re technically called groups, but that, I think, gives the wrong mentality. You can belong to a group you don’t particularly care about, (you could be white for example), but if you belong to a team, then it has a more definite attachment. And if you’re in a group for a dungeon, they’re no longer four people you found and invited. They’re your team. Treat them as such.
And Remember there is no I in TEAM
And yeah really good general rules, not only for gw2 but for any game that require groups, or should we say teams
Personally:
Rule #1 Press v.
Rule #2 Press 6.
Rule #3 Don’t run signets.
i never ever press 6, and i do fine because I remapped my heal to my mouse thumb button, WAY more convenient place to have it :P really for & to be a conveinet button for heal for most ppl you would have to map your move keys to RDFG really
in regard to mystic salvage kit, first as rising said what would be the difference to a Black Lion salvage kit? and yet a mystic salvage kit in fact does exist but is rather is high amount of charges for a kit but work same way as master’s http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Salvage_Kit
Make a dungeon rewarding. Tears and blossoms are all well and good, but an awesome greatsword would be better. Make the bleeding worthwhile, please.
geuss what? you can get an awesome greatsword for those tears and blossoms
and while at it, when you actually edit the MOTD, why not have the previous message already written there, if you have to make just a minor edit (or maybe misspelled a word) you avhe to rewrite the whole thing
