if they fix this by removing the confusion, condition dmg builds would be totally useless underwatter for real, those clones are the only really good way to deal conditions underwater, at a decent pace
hmm… how would a charr hug an asura…? would seem more like the charr squishing the asura to me i bet…
yeah pointless with stat combos withouer at elast 1 offensive stat, since a full support, or a full defence build in a group is deathweight, everyone should be doing some dmg, all the meanwhile they support the group and ensure they themself can survive
as for the no offhand skills for thieves those have been stated by the dev directly that they were quickly thrown together and never intended to be used outside the tutorial area (the no oddhand for pistol is a very clear exmaple of why this seems right… the repeater skill there is jsut a plain weker version of the p/p’s unload really, and the swords “Stab” to me feel more like a skill fit for a #1 rather than a #3 skill, and even twisting fang porbably being the best of the 3 empty offhand skills(my geuss is becasue you as thief start with a dagger in the tutorial, so they put a litte more into it maybe, the the other 2), is kinda meh
can fully support this, some kind of ingame notepad would be nice (and since you can already link poi’s, wp’s etc in chat would be the sam here so could keep at least approximate locations on the map there too that way.
Mesmer can definitely be very survivable and have tons of viable builds for sure, and if done right can be a great asset to any team as well, but can be tricky to play in the start, but really most if not all classes fit those 3 words in gw2, the question is more how do you want to go about being useful, and how you want to be survivable
Are you saying that you keep on 16-18 stacks of bleeding by yourself with that ?
You should tell me then, with that exact same configuration, I only keep up between 6 and 10 bleeding stacks at the same time (and burn ~70% uptime, 2-3 stacks vulnerability).
Or maybe you were talking about the addition of the 3 conditions ?
i am talking about bleedings ONLY as that is the only one i keep up constant, burn is simply too short to keep up 24/7 by myself and confusion is always more for if you need a burst
this is my build(and sitting about 50%crit rate), and yes quite simple get 3 staff clones out and keep them out (try and spread them out as much as possible so if one get hit by aoe only that one die so you can replace it right away instead of all 3 dies at once making you loose 70% of your dps or something until you get new ones up. And yes the only clone generation i have is the staff phase retreat simply due to that fact with only a 5sec cd on it (-20% cd both from staff trait as well as the clone generating traits for a total of -40% ) it is only really in the start of a fight that will feel remotely long time and even then it not really that bad, or if you decide to do a confusion burst (cry of confusion with 3 clones =6stacks of confusion+5stack from confusion images right after is 10-11 stack depedning on how fast and flawless you do it, and if you drop a etheral field under the mob too maybe some of your team mates with projectile finishers add a few more, sometimes with lots of allies with that can get 15 or confusions)
Also YES i am aware that i could easily squish out more condition dmg in my build with like undead runes instead of lyssa, and dropping the glamour cd reduction trait for something else, but i like being supportive as well. The main reaosn i chose lyssa is to use time warp and then follow it up with a use if signet of inspiration upping the extra dmg that timewarp would give even further for my team mates as well as given them good defence boons as well as well on top
(edited by GummiBear.2756)
thief elites are fine (though maybe open some more of them up for underwater, i see no reason why thieves guild cant be used underwater for example, then jsut summoning a thief one with each of the 2 underwater thief weapons), now mesmer could really use something that was more usefull in solo PvE specailly for condition builds
But as other have said you ahve to be carefull to add too early and too many extra skills
It’s to make it fair for others plus it’s not always fun being the god and the strongest in the area. It’s actually pretty interesting to know that you are just one single person. no matter how powerful you are, you will always die from something small if you’re reckless. Pretty much reminds me on how real life works.
and yet sandly you cant really die in ares where the mobds are lvl 7 or so and lower, unless you deliberatly let them beat on you for like what? 10 minutes+ while doing absolutetly nothing currently, really really wish the scaling were more harsh in the lowest area’s
While true, the scaling down just keeps it realistic (Although it’s a fantasy game, things are not meant to be realistic but still). That’s just in my opinion though so I am not sure how you guys view it
how is it realistic if i go outside in the wild somwhere and find say a boar to try kill it with some kind of melee weapon, it sure will give me a hell of a fight. then i go out in the wolrd and fight a lot of differnet opoening both animals and humans and whatever else you can think of to fight, and come back a couple months or even a year later to same area find a new boar in same area and try kill it with the same type of weapon, and i can assure you it would STILL give one hell of a fight for its life (sure i might ahve giotten better at fighting but i would still ahve to watch not getting killed by it) so making the scaling MORE harsh would in fact be waht made it more “realistic”
BUt then again why talka bout realism in a game where some classess fling magic left and right, and teleport from one spot to the other in and instant… sure is the right game to talk about what is and waht is not realistic
that is when you ensure that those that escort them are not lol max dps builds only but someone with either some actual control (immobilse, stuin knockback etc) to keep ppl AWAY from the dols untill, or ppl taht can give out defensive boons to the dols, like protection and blocks
That would be bad and give alot of people heart attacks when they see that I dare to go instances with only rare equipment ! RARE ! Can you belive it ?! IMPOSIBRU!
pff my thief been trying fractals with a combination of white, blue and green gear (and die more than i like, but im pretty sure that casue im more used to playing my mesmer :P)

we are in pve open world. u turn off scaling as lvl 80. im lvl 1 and have scaling turned on… how exactly would that work?
dont think it would be a problem technically tbh, if they can make harvest nodes specific for each player sure they could have different scaling for each player, if anything taht would be even easier, but ofc a i said earlier there is other problems with it so it should absolutetly not even be considered
yeah i got 2 rings in 4 days of daily lvl 10’s (a beserker and a mf ring, while i actually need a rabid one xD, so gave the beserker to my thief that resently got lvl 80 as well and the mf… well that was actually less stas than the green lvl 80 ring he used then beside the beserker ascended so that still in my bank, might sell it though not sure, dont relaly care for mf)
stats on weapons only work on the atacks of that specifick weapon.
According to the wiki http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil it does not matter what weapon you have the sigil on, however if you look at sigil of accuracy, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil_of_Accuracy
they do not stack at all, so using more than 1 is a waste.Interesting, I was aware that the bonus does not show up on the character stats screen. But was unaware of the non stacking portion.
However, for example something like Sigil of Air, chance to cause lightning strike dmg, will work on either weapon. So you have Accuracy on your mainhand for extra crit on those attacks, and you put sigil of air on your shield, your mainhand will proc the lightning dmg. Stacking two sigls of air does work, but it’s not a straight increase like two 30% chances does not equal 60% chance, but they do stack.
You can do the reverse as well. Air on your MH and Accuracy on your OH. It makes no difference.
I don’t understand why people (not you, the guy below the OP) believe that sigils are weapon-specific. It boggles my mind since tons of posts prove that is incorrect in every thread asking about it.
and is very easy to test in heart of the mist too :P put a chance to bleed on crit on your main hand using a skill from your mainhand tht dont bleed itself and see there getting some bleeds on the golem you bash on (unless you have 0 crit ofc :P)
This is my build, may not be the highest dmg output, but great survivability and nice support, with still a good dmg output.
Most times keeping 3 staff clones up though can do a nice spike confusion by using cry of confusion, swapping to scepter and do confusing images, and if you got a couple ppl with good prjectile finsiher drop a chaos storn, feed back or null field on the enemy right as you begin the shatter and you should get at least 10+ even without other ppls finsihers, with other ppl’s finsiher you mgiht even got to 14-15 or something stack of confusion. The offhand i usually run with focus but sometimes swap it out for other ones too (though always focus in wvw, but pve can sometimes get use of other offhands too)
but since mesmers suck at properly stacking bleeds it kinda only gets you on equal ground with the rest of the classes for a lot more effort and stress. (but I enjoy my mesmer)
so 16-18 stacks means you suck at stacking conditions? Not many classes can do above that tbh without going into very specific builds AFAIK
I do that easily with about 50% crit, sharper immange and 3 staff clones+myself doing staff #1
Bosses (and champions) have the Unshakable effect: “Gains defiant when targeted by crowd control skills. Blind is 10% effective. Weakness and vulnerability last 50% less time.”
yeah i stupidly forgot that on a champion in the norn start area with my lvl 80 thief today… thought i could just go in and permablind him with black powder (pistol #5) and lol and beyond i got downed pretty fast trying to do that :P
i usually run with signet of inspiration, feedback and null field, in about anywher really, sometimes i swap out feedback (if i know for sure there is no ranged mobs, or null field if i know there is no conditions on us/no boons on enemies, rarely for null field to go thoguh feedback more likely) that said i use staff as main weapon so got the phase retreat if i need a fast tele sometimes, and uses a full superior rune of lyssa, so popping feedback+signet of ins after is tons of boons to whole party on top of quickness <3
LA = Lions Arch the most central of the main cities
FotM = Fractals of the mist, sometimes also jsut refered to as “fractals”
i would not recommand doing fractals at lvl 2 though, wait till you at least are lvl 30 so you avhe all your skill slots opened up, both uttilty and elites. even though you will be scaled up to 80 inside fractals, you will be very vulnerable and give very little dps compared to other chracters, as you like are in only white armor and might not even have all your armor slots filled out yet, so if you go there as lvl 2 i wouldnt be surprised if you get 1-2 shotted by even thrash mobs
EDIT: seems i got beat by 5 other ppl while writing this :P, but maddoctor you can go there as lvl 2 yes, and get scaled up im pretty sure, but as i said earlier you would be less than a dead-weight for your team
hmm nice enough idea, specailly is anoying with rangers in groups in tje jade maw fractal… that boss really LOVE to target ranger pets (well and memser illusions too, but that is not what this is about)
if you could ONLY see the name (so you could find the same look) i could accept it, but showing all the stats and runes/sigil is a big NO, there id plenty of LFM’s already that are asking for only lvl 80’s, or only specific classes, so waht makes you think ppl would not begin to only allow exotic/ascended too then?
the guards are only supposed to make it sligtly more difficult not next to impossible to kill them outside big groups, if those yaks are so vital for your server to get in, maybe have some players actually escort them
while i would for (admittely) rather selfish reasons like to change the race of my mesmer away from Norn (no good solo PvE elites on neither mesmer or norn, as well as camera issues due to the big size of a norn), it would make no sense to do, and i dont see it coming ever
I vote no on this one, I am also more for steeper scaling, we are still too strong and it goes against intent.
agree with this scaling is way too soft ATM, even on my lvl 80 condition dmg memser using staff(the mesmer weapon with the lowest direct dmg in itself) with like only 20 or so power over the base power i still 2-3 shots stuffs in the lowest lvl areas… which makes those areas really boring…
unique items have this as a tag. it’s written above (I think) the binding status (soulbound, accountbound etc). if you don’t see the text unique in the item information, you can equip as many of it as you like, if it has, only one unique item with the same name may be equipped. at least that’s the theorie and by the posts here I’d say it still stands.
apart from ascended I’ve only ever seen one unique item: the ancient karka shell – you can’t equip two of those (if you were so lucky as to loot the chest and get the compensation mail – or overflow swapped to get multiple chests)
The Mad Memoroies (or however you spell that) is unique too, though sure since it is a backpack and you only ahve one slot for it that is kinda redundant :P in fact the only items where unique would really ahve any real effect is for weapon, rings and accessories, since everything esle only ahve a single slot anyway to put them in
yep zoilja bald……graphics missing or incredibly slow loading(running into la.. run into bank and nothing is there just the bankers icons.. floating in air,.,,just the water below..till it loads a few minutes later)
the 2nd part sound like an issue with either your PC or connection, i never had that kind of stuff, try lowering the grachic details
Also I’d like to make a point here, as everyone is bringing up the option to Knock on a Door of a Sepratists Hideout….
There are other options, one of which is TALKING to the Sepratist, being diplomatic. And in doing so, you and the npc both will see where the npc’s rage is coming from, where the motivation stems from, but yet, they reconcile and repent due to your counseling.
I think this point is just as important, if not more, then the right or wrong of kicking in doors.
This is the exact reason i love the way the hearts are done, if you dont like doing one thing there is always at elast 1 or 2 other ways you can do it
Whoa.
Crafting provides generous experience. Personal story = XP + items.
The crowd is great around Divinity’s Reach and Hoebrak (events) except of course for the persistent lonewolf who even declares themselves on map chat. Get a group, form a party.
I don’t like people, if I can do something on my own, I will.
then why do you play and MMO in the first place?
ehmm you are not supposed to level solely with personal story, in fact the majority of your xp should be gotten by DE’s mainly, in fact by the time my 2 lvl 80’s were max lvl my peronsal story on them both was around the 40’s still
and well both my thief and my mesmer evne ahd a few skills to unlock after lvl 80 still. and as other said yeah certain high tier recipes require mats bought from skill point, legendary weapons being one of them but not the only one, requireing no less than 200 skill points
if you really find it too easy to be fun, try purposefully go to area where mobs is a bit higher lvl than you? This also double as getting increased drop chances when you fight enemies over your level. If you have to skip some stuff for it when you reahc 80 you can always go back and jsut blow it out in a few minutes likely.
haha know the feeling toxyn, just with other support spells not really healing since im mesmer, so to get any decent healing you ahve to spec heavily into mantrs using restorative mantras and such, but like time warp, i consider myself lycky in a dungeon run if i manage to get it down with 3 ppl inside including myself :P
Yeah reflections, shaders, and shadows as well are the 3 main hitters on your FPS (not just in gw2 but in any game, so these would be good places to try and reduce if you ahve problems with low FPS
I use defense/condition/power on my Ele. Currently at 1100 power and 920 condition – forgot what defense but it’s fair because 5% of gets converted to condition damage using full set of undead runes. I am still working on getting full set of exotic trinkets though.
sound like toughness to me :P
Also you aware that you artificers can craft consumables (that stack with regular food from chefs taht convert from 1%-6% i think it end of of your toughness to condition dmg, as well as in same item convert 1-4% of vitatily to condition dmg, and it stack with your runes as well as if you got any trait taht give taht effect too (dunno if ele have such trait, only know my mesmer have it)
And really yeah power and condition dmg on gear seem a waste to me. in 95% of cases you want either power OR condition dmg, and then couple it with precision usually (most if not all classes ahve some way to get more conditions up when they crit (or in mesmer case when illusions crit :P))
But yeah like someone else mentioned the abbilty to freely change any combination of stats would be nice, and im am sure some of those players really good at creating fun and effective builds could get make some very creative builds that way
(edited by GummiBear.2756)
Well… I think decent goes to 30 to 40 and 40 to 50 as amazing and 50-60 as legendary. Also, having 60 and above is considered godlike, if possible.
Geuss i’m an godlike most times then xD rarely drops below 60 for me :P and if it does it usually only like 55 or something as lowest xD (that said GW2 was one of the main reasons i got this new computer, my old one i doubt would have been able to play gw2 at even lowest with setting with 1 fps :P
that aside yeah 30+ should definatly playable, keep in mind that if you go try tweak your setting to get 30 while standing still with likely little to not action around you it could very well drop a to 15-20 wioth action and if you go large wvw battles maybe even down to 5 making it virtually a slideshow. SO i would recommand if you stad still try if you can get at least a 40-50 there if you like big wvw battles and such maybe try get 60 when you are not near action
Im with Tosha Daydreamer mostly here, as long as it is the FINAL tier and you dont get huge stat upgrades from infusions down the line, as well as made resonable to obtain the gear
Another thing that worries me a bit is when armor and weapon comes out, what will come of runes and sigils? since there no upgrade slots (only infusion slots) will these be built into the armor, or will we simply not be able to get these effects at all, and jsut get generic extra stats like is the case on jewelry currently?
can someone confirm whether you can or cant equip to identical ascended rings (preferably with kitten maybe?) i would really like to know this
O_o dont ahve a ranger myself, but if this is indeed true, it really should be fixed to ahve them inherit owners AR, no need for a special trinket for that, why should rangers have to gear out double for that sort of stuff than any other professions after all, that would make no sense
So can defintaly support this, even though i dont have a ranger
so then tell me why about as good as every single FPS game for PC uses WASD to move around if it is so inferior… afterall if there is any genre in general where fast responses and mobiblty is important FPS would be it
well my geuss would be it be just like how you swap to a differenet overfow if you are in a group that is not in the same overflow, just that you can now do it to the actual servers. I do fear however it will be region restrictied (though would not ATM be and issue for me, but never know in the future)
3 months later and this still isn’t fixed?!
well since Jason confirmed that it is ONLY an UI bug, and the actual crit chance in fact does work, i immagie it is among the lowest priority things to fix
There’s already a sound for whispers and sometimes it’s even obnoxious (when playing at night, for example).
As for a whisperbox, I found out that creating a new chat windows just for whispers and selecting “Flash on unread messages” in the drop-down options menu of the new window is pretty useful.
this really imo the whisper sound is well okay, but it should deffo NOT be louder, if anything i wish it sometimes were more quiet…
elemetalist should not be the only ones to get it, either all classes get and extra (or multiple extras) out of combat weapon switch or noone do.
And really ele’s complaining about weapons taking up space… you got like 4 different weapons (so that 4 spaces to be fair as you likely need 2 daggers)… both my mesmer and thief runs around with like 10 slots used for alternative weapon types…, wont even think about what warriors need… ele and engi are the 2 classes using the least bag space for weps, yet somehow the only ones complaining about it…
It’s not about bag space, it’s about convenience. Dagger/dagger plays completely different from staff and has other advantages. I am a Warrior main, and I want this on my elementalist. Though I agree, a system should be put in place that would work for everyone. Ideally you should be able to switch to any weapon build on any class with a click of a button, without having to go into your inventory and look for it.
read the whole thread again and you notice quite a few ppl bringing bagspace up as an argument, (not all no, but still quite a few does)
open “Play Shop” or something like that (using a danish phone so might not be 100% correct word but something like that) and search for “authenticator” and the “Google Authenticator” should come up, which can be used (dunno if there is other ones that work for gw2 too, but this one works perfect for me)
elemetalist should not be the only ones to get it, either all classes get and extra (or multiple extras) out of combat weapon switch or noone do.

you got the newest drivers for your grachic card?
O_o is it supposed to do that? mine never had since headstart (well don’t think it did in beta even either). Would be nice if the guild icon would show it too, dunno if that supposed to or not though :P
to that said there is a problem with the guild tools in that the permission to to give to rank that allows to invite members is the SAME permission as for kicking from guild and promote/demote other members, so it either all or nothing of that for a rank
