Thief has a number of WvW advantages, though as I have never been much of a PvPer my ideas on that will differ from devoted combatants. I really like the whole running away from the fight ability

While true thief indeed has just as strong disadvantages too in WvW, specially the lack of more but ONE 1200 range ability that is then even ground targeted. So if you prefer the keep sieges part of wvw thief ain’t the best

Why do PvE bosses seem to equate to...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

Main reason why people skill bosses or any other boss like foe is not hp, its not time required to kill or difficulty to do so, it is loot. Those so called Bosses have nothing to offer as a reward for 10-30minutes long encounter which makes most player just ignore them and run past them.

This is MMORPG, everything revolves around loot, dungeons are played for loot, people kill everything in their path for loot, and only thing that this game doesn’t have, guess, its LOOT! 90% of dungeons and “end game” content is abandoned because people don’t get loot they deserve, especially for hours long dungeons like COE or arah.

TL;DR: Improve bosses, but improve drops as well. One without the other will only make things worse.

I hope somebody at ANet is still paying attention to this thread. Boss loot is pretty bad. I get a much better time to reward ratio by skipping bosses and clearing maps instead. Fight one boss for 30 minutes or 30 low-level mobs and you’ll get better experience and more cash from the low-level mobs.

… is only a day ago since a developer replayed to this threat even… what you expect? an answer once an hour or what from them?…

XanBie is right, making existing dungeons play the way fractals do (no res rushing) would fix a lot of the percieved easyness.

aggreed make the normal dungeons loose wp’s and make it like the checkpoints when you wipe completely like fractals/story instances do would do a LOT
Yes it might turn some ppl off from doing it due to them becoming “too hard” but those you do get to play with in tuern would likely be more competent in general too

Why Chantry of secrets for World Completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

GummiBear.2756

You’ll note in your travels to get map completion that all of the orders are included in the poi map count: Priory, Vigil and Whispers. Because Whispers is a super secret order, it makes sense it’s tucked away/hidden somewhere. Chantry of Secrets is the Whisper of Order’s HQ.

I had wondered this — I like Jayne’s explanation (whether or not it’s official “canon”).

it may not be said anywhere direcltly, but the whole way that order works it pretty common sense and shouldnt need to be stated explictly anywhere to be canon really

Condition Damage vs Condition Duration

in Players Helping Players

GummiBear.2756

Bleeding deals damage each second so calculate your +Duration to give a full second for it to be worth it. Bleeds have higher duration so I’d say going for damage is more important than duration, even without duration extention you can keep a lot of bleed stacks.

well ONE stack of bleeding adds 1 pulse per second, but each additonal stack adds one more tick per second, and well 1 stack of bleeding is useless, you need AT LEAST 10-15+ before bleeding become worthwile

Can only agree, never played DN, but have played Vindictus (and still am a bit), and DN seem to have somewhat similar combat to Vindictus from those vids you posted.

YOu did however forget the imo one and most important feature that GW2 have (and the one thing that imo makes gw2 closer to action combat than Tera), the fact that you can move while casting 90%+ of abilities.

However at this state i fear it is too late to alter a thing such fundamental as the basics of combat, to achieve true action combat in gw2

Bleed Stack Plan?

GummiBear.2756

Could you explain the reasoning of removing the bleed/poison/burn cap on everything?
I completeley agree removing the bleed/posion/burn cap for big bosses is needed, thats a lot of damage the cond builds miss out on but for smaller targets? 1 good build can maintain 25 stacks alone, who knows maybe more. That is about equal to a full power build and you’re asking to allow multiple people to drain a targets health beyond control. WvW would become very annoying very fast if everyone could stack max conditions on entire groups. As a condition thief, I see no problem with the cap in small scale enviroments. It’s only for large scale events.

And then i ask you, if you could explain the resoning behind capping condition damage, when DD is left uncapped and as outlined earlier in this threat the 2 damage forms deal about equal damage?

Burning, bleeding and most importantly CONFUSION must be completely reworked for pve. When i hear someone saying “spend some points in power for your shatter confusion build to deal higher damage” makes me sad because confusion scales 100% with cond damage not power. Anet, come on now! You did increase its damage since beta but that is FAR from being enough, so, do something. Hopefully in the next two moths these tree conditions will work as they should have since day one.

tbh even if you increase confusin dmg in pve by 100000 times it still wont be enough for bad people, the problem is not really the damage, but that mobs uses skills way too slowly so you need extreme good timing and some luck to get 2 hits on a stack, even 1 hit can be hard at times even

I know that and i never said to increase confusion damage. Unless they increase it to 100% its not exactly damage i want them to increase but proc on all mobs and if during confusion duration it doesn’t proc one, confusion explodes and deals aoe damage equivalent to the amount of confusion the enemy had the most before confusion expiration. Or the easy way would be to increase confusion duration by 200%.

hmm, i like the AoE explosion if not proccing once, (maybe for less dmg to amek up for it) would give a choice whether you want a lot of dmg on one mob or a little less on multiple, and then having to time it accordingly

GW2 should steal artifacts from Rift

in Suggestions

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

I never played Rift, but there must be something to these “artifact” things because this is actually not the first topic about this particular feature. The “scavenger hunt” aspect of it sounds enjoyable enough, and in keeping with GW2’s emphasis on exploration and discovery. I’m sure ArenaNet could put their own spin on this concept and end up with something very enjoyable.

I can’t say I’m in love with the “randomly generated” aspect of it, though. These zones are already huge, and if there’s no rhyme or reason to where a given piece might appear — or even if it’s there at all — it’s going to turn off a lot of people. Who wants to waste a lot of time running around a zone, just hoping the RNG gods have blessed them today? But, maybe I’m not familiar enough with the concept and it’s not as bad as I imagine…?

If i remember right (quite long since i played rift) the artifact location were somewhat static, but the actual artifact you got was random

Backpedaling, is it bad?

backpedaling is usually not efficient in combat as other pointed out however there are times when it is needed, like defending a keep shotting stuff down at enemies from top of wall and well they begin shoot back, you might want to consider moving backwards a bit with backpedaling OR maybe even dodge backwards, which you wont be able to either if you unbind it

Bleed Stack Plan?

If condition damage is the same as direct damage, there is no need for any kind of cap. Let’s imagine that there is no cap and that the highest bleed stack count that can be achieved by one player is 30 stacks. Now if the damage output of this build is equal to the damage output of the best crit build, why do we need a cap? They deal the same damage, just in different ways.

If one can be built with better defense than the other, then this is a build balancing issue, not an issue from having no cap.

But like I said, so long as both builds output the same amount of damage in all situations, I don’t mind what they do. But as it stands now, condition builds suffer severally when in groups. This includes WvW. Let’s say you have 3 condition builds running around and the majority of their damage comes from bleeds, which if uncapped they could achieve 60 stacks of bleeding. Now any foe they attack will only ever take 25 stacks of bleed damage. Now picture the same situation with 3 uncapped crit builds. Which group do you think would defeat their foe fastest in most situations?

Whenever you have 3 or more condition builds running around together, you will have lost damage potential, while crit builds do not suffer from this at all.

@CMF – Defense against direct damage is armor, protection and evades/blocks. Defense against condition damage is condition removal skills (which removes almost all of your damage output) and condition duration reduction. If this is not equal then these things need to be balanced. Using the cap as a means of balancing things is very unbalanced in groups and not very efficient..

Makes sense but as you pointed out simple raising the cap wouldn’t solve much. Removing the cap would probably just get out of control though. In the sense of lost damage, they should rework condition removal skills rather than just let you stack more because what is the point of stacking 30+ bleeds if 1 skill/trait can remove it. Perhaps they could make condition removal work a set amount on stacks/duration rather than completely removing it like:

Bleed- removes 10 stacks.
Vulnerability- removes 10 stacks
Poison- removes 20 seconds
Confusion- I do not have a profession that uses this so I couldn’t speak for those who do use it.
Burn- remove 10 seconds
Stun/daze/knockdown/fear- simply removes.

Thats just an example btw. I’m sure there could be a better approach but still, I don’t believe increasing the cap of bleed or w/e will solve much for smaller targets. Champions and legendaries are easily approached by raising the limit since they don’t normally remove any conditions.

could work for intensity maybe to only remove some of it, but could again make stacking conditions a bit too effective, however for duration stacking conditions if you only removed X seconds of it trying to remove those with condition removers would be all but useless tbh

Why do PvE bosses seem to equate to...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

The game is bland when you are used to games where choices do have consequences and I don’t just mean MMOs. Games in general. If I make a necromancer here or a warrrior really doesn’t matter. Some may see this as great freedom. But for me if choices make no difference, it means nothing to me. And that’s what is the case here and why PvE is so uninspiring. In my view of course.

So you say i can make a warrior get to know him well and all max him out, and then make a necromancer and i will be able to play him just like that warrior i had and still be a good necromancer?

And 900 range constantly is just too little for sieges. Mesmer can be quite nice in keep sieges though, giving quickness to allies with time warp or confusions and feedbacks on enemies (impressive how many ppl jsut eat feedback bubbles and confusions whole

as for thief granted the inf arrow don’t have a cd, due to how thief skills work, however having to move around with it in combat, will quickly drain the thiefs initiative since it cost no less than 6 initiative, so a 2-3 of those and there is no initiative left for attacking back, so now the thief is more or less dead meat for the taking.
