It’s not the cinematic. Its a skill point in Cursed Shore in the water. In fact, there’s alot of those glowey sun-like orbs all around Orr if you look hard enough.

Is that the one that has that book, at Harrowed Sea? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Captain%27s_Log

Is this really a reward for Level 38 ??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

You are not getting rewards that you didn’t get before. They just grouped them all up every few levels instead of spreading them out.

These rewards previously belonged to the Personal Story. Do the math yourself – although the PS gives better rewards now, it does so far less often than before due to all the removing and shuffling of the chapters. And while the overall quality of rewards is higher (e.g Rares instead of Masterwork), its also simultaneously lower in the grand scheme of things (no exotic sigils, some unsalvageable equipment, etc.).

The “new” rewards you get from level-up only just make up for it. This is why so many people are irritated at ANet calling time/level gating “rewarding”.

Regarding this specific reward, by level 38 people are using fine kits, not basic. When a player has to wait seven levels to get something that costs 88 copper at a merchant, it is basically saying “I think you’re cheap and will be satisfied with this”.

It’s not innovative, its shameful.

Ping/Latency are setting me off the game.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

You’re gaining nearly a second of lag to hop 5.

Hops 1-2 look like your local routing node.
Hops 3-6 are probably your ISP.
Hops 7-9 are the route taken to the NCSoft exchange.
Hops 10-13 are the NCSoft exchange.
Further hops are the game servers themselves (which block pings).

Keep in mind that you likely don’t notice the lag in anything else because this is satellite-level lag at best, ~800ms will not affect anything other than games with little to no consequence on general Internet usage, streaming, etc.

All you can do is call your ISP, the problem is not GW2.

I like how people think that its still endgame content even though everyone already completed it 1,000 times on every character they have.

Endgame content doesn’t end, it keeps going. GW2 has “level 80 content”, which is not the same thing. Its content that you play when you reach 80, until you have everything you want from it, and then you are sick of it.

Then you are left with nothing to do in the end.

Zojja actually bald?

in Asura

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

She does not have hair in any concept art that I have ever seen. However, that is not to say she didn’t have hair back in the era of Destiny’s Edge. As far as I know, Zojja is never shown very well in the DE vs. Kralkatorik cutscene in Arah story.

She could have simply lost it (or got rid of it) later.

Also, it is widely speculated that no Asura have hair at all, and that it is synthetic. This is supported by the fact that nearly all concept art shows the Asura without (much) hair save for a single Asura – Snaff himself. So many fans believe that Asura wear wigs or implants as a part of adoption of other cultural norms.

This is further supported in-game with the addition of new hairstyles to makeover kits which in turn introduced non-androgynous hairstyles (which were rare before), which while possibly non-canon, does fit into the idea of cultural adaptation over time in order for the Asura to better “fit in” with the other races in the Pact era.

Take it for what you will.

Suggestion-Create a constant speed buff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Almost every class does have this with either a Signet or some trait. The only classes that I have noticed that suffer are:

Guardian
Mesmer

Thief suffers by not having any decent kind of speed buff via weapon or utility (not talking about their constant speed signet, if I was thief would be above with Mesmer/Guardian), the split second one from stealing (trait I think) is nothing lol…

Steal alone is 10/21 when fully traited. That’s nearly 50% uptime. Then you have the passive signet, Swiftness on dodge, etc. Thief is fastest class by far.

Mesmer doesn’t suffer that much, as they tend to run Berserker builds which work well with the Rune of the Centaur and Mirror (13/15), and the condition Mesmer can always equip a Focus while runnning from A to B.

Guardian is absolutely horrible. You pretty much need to use Staff, Retreat and Save Yourselves (potentially combined with teleports) or waste some of your stats to use either Rune of Speed or Rune of the Traveler.

No real option for purely offensive builds on Guardian whatsoever.

Why can't I make my asura look sexy?

in Asura

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The out of lore explanation is that the asura look too child like so a-net felt uncomfortable with it. It was stated before release.

An in lore explanation may be that since the body types are basically the same, there is really no mystery so “sexy-ness” wouldn’t have strong ground to develop on.

I don’t see how Asura look child-like at all (human childlike) bar their height.

Big eyes, large head, flat chest. Boardlike body with narrow shoulders.

Most with this was probably intentionally because a child height character with adult proportions would look super creepy.

Uh, you do know that such people exist in real life and are fairly common, right?

Its also very common in games due to dwarfs being a staple of the high fantasy genre ever since the earliest RPGs and subsequently MMOs.

It’s not creepy at all .. and neither are the Asura for that matter.

The chat UI in this game is not the best and chat tabs are already at a premium because not only do they take up alot of space, and not have multiple rows, but you are limited to only five chat tabs being saved between logins at any time.

It confounds me that this is the only game that I have ever played that has the combat log in the chat window, but does not allow you to detach it.

Please add an option for a permanently visible combat log (not chat tab).

The game is not bad but the players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Well, if you are using a Rifle then you are at range and you are not receiving buffs as almost all buffs to party members are only 600 range. This is why people get upset about ranging because it lowers overall group performance for no reason.

You are basically making it harder for everyone with no concern for their experience. Imagine being a melee getting pummeled by a boss while everyone ranges. The play how you want playstyle has to go both ways and everyone has to make sacrifices in order to work together as a group, that is just how groups work.

Also, if you don’t want to be griped out, don’t join someone else’s party. Either make your own or call your guild to help. I am not a hardcore elitist myself, and I do not agree with the way that people behave in this game, but at the same time its simply a fact that when you join a party in this game you are on their terrain.

And its important to understand that other people are in a bad mood all the time because the game is going downhill. They keep trying to cling to what little they have left in the game like some kind of crazed zealot because not only has ANet added nothing else for them to do, but they keep adding more bugs and nonsensical limitations in the few things that they do have left to do in a game that is increasingly being tailored for low-intelligence players with fat wallets.

Paying for past content?

in Living World

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

I just logged in for the first time in over a year. I saw a new zone had opened up, and that past story was available (at-least S2)

I then saw it would cost me money to access old content everyone else received for free, then promptly uninstalled. It went against everything I thought GW2 was. I would just pay for a subscription game if I was interested in something like this.

So you would have preferred to not be able to access it at all? Because that was the case before they added the new system.

If you login during the time an episode is active (usually two weeks) you unlock it for free. If you don’t, you can pay 200 gems in order to unlock it accountwide for ever.

If you don’t want to pay, you can join someone else that have the episode unlocked and do it that way.

I’m guessing he promptly uninstalled Prophecies when Factions came out too. Or when WoW released Burning Crusade.

It’s the same gods be kitten ed concept.

Not even close to the same concept.

You’re right. You can’t purchase those with gold.

The only thing to complain about is that S1 is not replayable. Oh yes.

Why is there a reward window for stat-ups?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

They are not removed by downscaling. Downscaling is a percentage of your orignial power rather than a cap to the actual power of players of that level. This is why level 80s are far more powerful when downscaled than an on-level player.

It is only meant to (poorly) estimate, but all of your stats are figured.

Rebalancing the Scale-down Feature

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Rather than a forced change to the down-levelling, I’d personally like to see two sets of megaserver instances for each map (with exception of cursed shored, southsun, dry top and any other level 80 zone added in the future).

Normal Mode, Where the down-levelling works as it currently does but drops are made increasingly more level specific.

Hard Mode, where all that’s changed is that enemies are up-levelled to 80 and drop max level loot. Enemy distribution quantities and respawn rates would remain the same, they’d just be raised to 80. Players are not downscaled on this version of the map. Some parts of the game might turn out to be unbalanced by just up-levelling the mobs, but it could be ironed out over time.

These would be combined with a down-levelling preference option where you can manually chose to downscale further than default. e.g. “+1 (default), =, -1, -2 … -10”. This could perhaps also allow you to downscale yourself below 80 on max level maps.

While this is a very good idea that could also help separate farming zergs from the experience of low level players, at the same time it does not do much for the player who wants to play with his guild mates or friends in a low level zone.

At the very least, a self-handicap is absolutely needed. I see no reason why we should not be able to “nerf” ourselves without ruining our entire build.

"Downed State" frightening for new players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Agreed with everyone else.

It’s not frightening in the same sense as a horror movie or walking down a dark street alone at night. But the fact that you’re dying and then suddenly all your skills change and your health is dropping whether you’re being attacked or not adds another layer of confusion to an already stressful situation.

It’s a bit like if you’re lost in an airport, worried you’ll miss your flight and then a complete stranger comes up to you and starts demanding to know why you chose the bag you’re carrying, where you got it and if you bought it for this trip specifically. It’s something unexpected and strange which you probably could cope with on it’s own, but you’re already stressed and don’t need this extra weirdness on top of everything else. (Maybe not the best example but a true story and the first one that came to mind.)

I’m not sure how moving it back a few levels is supposed to help because you still won’t have a chance to learn what the skills do except by sacrificing yourself to read and experiment with them. But I suppose the idea is that new players will be more familiar with the rest of the game by then so it spreads the confusion out and makes it easier to deal with.

Spreads the confusion? Like being lost in an airport? Hahahaha! Everything that is wrong with the world, right there.

No, it is not like being lost in an airport at all.

You are in a game, there are 4 buttons, you press on…or don’t.

No big deal.

Tbh, downed state is what kept me playing past level 2. I was afk and bored and suddenly 4 buttons appeared.. what now, I thought? I pressed one and threw things. The enemy died I rose from the dead, newly empowered, revitalized and excited by this new mechanic…

Thus renewed, I contributed to charity, invented Facebook and become a hero to millions of starving children.

Thank you, downed state < level 5!

You understand almost nothing about how new players see the game. Furthermore, those skills do radically different things on each class, so “clicking buttons” might not help you or your team in any way, and could make things worse.

While what you say may be sufficient in solo play, as soon as the player gets into a party they will become a liability to the team because they are “pressing one and throwing things” instead of for example using their #2 and #3 skills in a way that allows them to apply CC to their attacker, move away to safety, etc.

The downed state needs to be properly explained to new players, so that they don’t have to learn these things “the hard way” in groups at level 80.

In fact, the lack of explanations about most game mechanics are why so many players receive discrimination in this game due to being “casuals” and “bads”. It has very little to do with their playing ability and alot to do with the fact that they are not exposed to that kind of challenge until the knowledge and experience are already needed.

Really, one of the biggest problems of PvE in a nutshell.

Boon Duration/Concentration

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Boon Duration actually used to be a dominant stat because it strengthens DPS builds by ensuring that Might and Fury were always available, even solo. However, it got heavily nerfed during the update to runes so it is unlikely that they would give it a more prominent role at this time since it so recently changed.

Furthermore, Condition Duration would need to get the same treatment.

Rebalancing the Scale-down Feature

A lv80 in Queensdale should have just as much problems with a Centaur as they do with a Risen in Orr. At least, that’s my personal opinion.

So he should be weaker than a low level character ? Because the lowbie at lvl 5 will
much faster kill the lvl 5 centaur than the 80 kills the risen.

Also .. give the 80 level 5 items, reset all traits and don’t use them .. and i suspect he
will also be weaker than the lvl 5 character.

Yes, because the high-level player has far more experience, along with utility skills, elite skills, traits, runes, and sigils, and other advantages. The power curve between low level and high level players is exponential, not linear.

Making them take longer to kill the mob compared to a level 5 is the only way to balance that they can skill for many damage bonuses, defenses, CC, heals, and even use skills that can completely turn the fight once every few minutes.

The only other option would be to take those things away…

"Downed State" frightening for new players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Because players are not able to familiarize themselves with the downed state until they are in an emergency situation that can quickly lead to death.

This is not the time to be learning something…

It would be completely different if they could review the skills beforehand, and maybe get a tutorial on the downed state or something. I have played the game for 1 1/2 years and the only reason I know exactly what all of my downed skills do on every class is because I read about them on the wiki. There just isn’t any time to familiarize yourself with them when you’re dying to another player, mob or boss.

In fact, in dungeons, fractals, WvW and PvP, you can even become a liability for your team if you are not able to return from a downed state effectively.

Healing Others in Battle

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

Healing without doing damage would be extremly lazy game play, since there is not
much that you would do then .. casting your healing spring every 25 seconds .. or just
staying around as a guard doing nothing else than sharing your regenaration ?

Personally i don’t know that there is a way to constantly heal other without doing
any damage and without standing around doing nothing between cooldowns.

Well, this is not strictly true. A staff Ele on Water can actually be a full healer because their autoattack AoE heals allies in a radius of 240 around the target. When properly traited and good runes and sigils, it has an incredibly amount of HPS far surpassing any amount of personal heals (relative to their cooldowns, of course).

But outside of that example, you are right and that most of the time healing is too sparse and largely a waste of effort compared to damage.

Why can't I make my asura look sexy?

in Asura

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

But not all Asura are the same, just like not all Humans are the same. Finding the intelligence and the ears sexy is the cultural norm, not the requirement. If you pay attention to some various NPCs out in the world in the game, some of them are more included towards physical attraction towards one another, and in a few rare cases even towards other races. The more secluded an Asura is from other Asura, the more likely they seem to develop physical attractions instead.

The Asura player character also has limited interest in NPCs, even stupid Norns. While this could be due to mechanics, it still exists nonetheless.

Lower-intelligence Asura (which are far more common than it may seem), may also have an inclination towards physical attraction, and they seem to be more social overall as these are usually the Asura found in groups or organizations (e.g The Pact) outside of krewes, colleges and the rest of Rata Sum.

So essentially, the tendancy for the Asura to stick to cultural norms seems to be exactly the same as other races: It has alot to do with their proximity to their lands and their people, and less influence from other races. As they travel out into the world, become more secluded and have to socialize and thus, be influenced by, other races this seems to be begin to weaken significantly, although it still remains ever present.

Both in in-game lore and in roleplaying, it has also been shown that Asura can be completely resocialized to another culture with enough time. For example, pirate Asura seem to be far separated from their racial conditioning.

Cliffside Fractal Hammer Bug [merged]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

My guild has decided to stop doing fractals because of this bug. Four times now we have run fractals in the last week, and every single time the hammer was lost on the Cliffside Fractal causing us to abandon the run completely.

On the area where you have to run back and forth between the two seals, there is a crack near the right seal and they push you back when you release them. Every single time a player gets pushed back into this crack. We tried to avoid it , but it seems to be nearly impossible and our Stability uptimes aren’t sufficient enough.

Keep in mind that this fractal usually comes up as #3, not #1, which makes it all the more frustrating since you are almost done with the fractal …

World Server - playing on others?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

Welcome back to the game.

After the September 9th patch, servers will no longer exist in PvE, because global guilds are being added which is the last step in completing megaserver.

You only need to transfer if you want to play in WvW.

No the game does not reward you for healing or any form of support. you have to physically damage the mobs and/or boss to get credit.

Rebalancing the Scale-down Feature

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Ok, here we go again:

Threads like these pop every now and then. There are generally two types of people replying:

  • People like OP who want monsters in low level areas buffed or high-level players nerfed, because otherwise they don’t have challenge and fun.
  • People like me who want everything to stay as is because we enjoy character progression and want to kill weak monsters for poor rewards in low-level areas much faster, because otherwise we think it’s boring and not fun.

If I invested in leveling and gearing my character in ascended, I deserve return on investment in form of faster kills and easier dailies. Getting to 100% map completion was rather boring already on my fully geared lvl 80. I don’t want huge HP bags with stupid AI everywhere, doubly so if they drop 1 silver stuff.

If your problem lies in running with underlevel friends, than simply gear yourself with greens of that level or take off some armour. Sorry, but I don’t want to be involved in a global solution to someone’s own personal problem

There’s been a thread on this subject before. There were basically two groups of people:

  • those who thought it was boring because it was easy;
  • those who thought it would be boring if it wasn’t easy.

You’re in the first group. I’m in the second. You like challenge; I like progression, I like to feel stronger, I like to get lower rewards only for easier tasks.

If they buffed the monsters for 80s, I do not think I would ever finish my map completion.

Just a small question: After the mega server update, have you been in an event with a lot of high level players, and tried to get credit as a low level player?

Your opinion only takes into account a few situations, such as world completion. Whereas the general idea behind adjusting the down-scaling system is to make the game a better place for everyone to be, not just your lv80.

A lv80 in Queensdale should have just as much problems with a Centaur as they do with a Risen in Orr. At least, that’s my personal opinion. The low level zones are already extremely forgiving, with their yellow enemies, and rarely do you ever get into any kind of danger outside of skill points even as an actual newbie.

All end-game content in this game is balanced around Rares, so I see no reason why the low level content shouldn’t also be balanced around Rares too if you are capable of wearing them, especially since the next update will add low-level Exotics. Although some extra compensation is also needed for traits.

Furthermore, PvE needs a significant difficulty boost in general, more in line with the difficulty currently offered by the Southsun Cove and Mordrem mobs (which make the Risen look weak in comparison). Yes, it will make the game more difficult for newer players, but it will also mean that they actually need to group up with allies to accomplish their goals again (this is an MMO afterall).

There is just no excuse for only having four lv80 maps in the game, thus being forced to find end-game content in low-level areas, yet it be so rediculously easy.
