Currently 11 lv80 fully geared alts with unique looks, builds and playing styles, upon which I spent about 5000 gold over time instead of wasting it on a few legendaries. And I enjoy them much more than I would any single prestige item.

Have had one ascended chest drop in my entire 2 1/2 years playing time, having logged thousands of hours. My partner got a single precursor drop and two ascended chest drops. Everyting else we worked for hardcore, tooth and nail. We earned it and we spent it as we wanted because that’s what people should do. Money that is never spent is just wasted, collecting dust and bringing little happiness.

My prized posession in this game is probably the effort I have put into it, without praying to any RNG gods, playing the TP, or any other risky business.

Best class for PvE Boss Farming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

I don’t recommend doing zerk ele if you have trouble handling it. It would be better to use soldiers or celestial, and in fact at most world bosses even clerics is great on ele because world bosses are overzerged so DPS doesn’t matter much there beyond just keeping people on their feet so there is less waypointing going on.

Why to not worry about DPS? Because elementalist skills like meteor shower and ice bow #4 hit large opponents such as world bosses many times and do massive amounts of damage regardless of your gear. Even the lightning hammer will bring great utility to the zerg even if you do zero DPS, due to the auto blast finisher.

You’re basically chosing the hardest combination to play in the game that requires a significant time investment to master and throwing it up against bosses that for the most part cannot be crit (making the gear next to useless).

Its best to keep meta builds in dungeons and fractals unless you have absolutely no choice to swap gear out due to limited or maxed out bag slots.

64 level 80s and a guild?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

I’m not sure how many people would follow that video series. Why? Because in this game there exist two levelling camps: The “lv80 zero-day” guys who use the tomes, writs, boosters, farming XP in EoTM, etc. and the “I’d rather never be lv80” guys who like to take the game slowly and enjoy every last bit of content to its fullest.

But don’t let that discourage you from making it. One should never rely on the opinions on others when deciding to do a creative work.

To be honest, I prefer to spend time revising and perfecting my existing 11 lv80s rather than making 64 characters. Its easy to feel like you are done, but the truth is some of my characters have been two or three complete redos and I find it more fun than just levelling a new character to level 80 as fast as possible.

My next alt will wear white gear all the way to the end of world completion. It will probably take me a year, but it will feel like a real accomplishment.

Best class for PvE Boss Farming?

The absolute easist class is a ranger for one reason: Range. The range on the longbow (1500) is enough to outrange even the Inquest Golem Mark II. You don’t even have to stand on the crates, just on the stairs, and press stability sometimes.

They can pretty much just stand back and kill every boss this way. But if you just want pure survival so you can facetank it at melee, PVT heavy is good.

this is not f2p game
kkthxbye

The business models are relatively the same. The difference is the initial cost allow for the devs to avoid doing more gameplay invasive cash shop items in order to generate revenue. So the balance between cash shop items(in this case cosmetics) and cosmetics via content will still always lean towards cash shop similar to F2Ps.

Also this game is not F2P, it costs $50 to buy it. That is alot of money. To put it into perspective, in some countries that is all you get paid each week.

To put it into another perspective, single player games range from $50-60 and usually yield 30-60 hours worth of gameplay. GW2 being $50 initially with no other costs, means after 30-60 hours the initial cost of the game is irrelevant.

Single player games are not widely played in all countries, generally only the countries to where they are localised. However, MMOs are. This is because of their high return on the investment that makes them suitable for low income populations, particularly since games like GW2 allow you to convert gold to gems, meaning that low income players can still manage to buy gemstore items with just time alone.

Another reason is that MMOs are far easier to understand even if you can’t read any of the text. All you need is someone to tell you what buttons to push, and you can make it through almost any content and eventually memorize all the skill names according to the effect that they have in game. I have had friends that do not read any language supported by the game very good, yet still managed to run dungeons with me without any kind of problem whatsoever, because they learned and adapted by apperance and effect rather than descriptions and words. Its actually quite fascinating.

But if you think that’s cheap just because of those reasons, you are still wrong. Because I’ve invited many players to this game, and out of those, only one has joined. The stated reason is always the steep initial cost, for a game that they do not know if they will enjoy. Indeed, I have quite a few friends on my list that quit forever at 500-1000 achivement points after spending all of that money.

When you buy a single player game, you know exactly what you are getting. Especially since its usually a sequal to a game you’ve already played before.

You say that a certain amount of time makes the cost irrelevant. However, consider that most potential players do not ever get to that amount of time, because they do not ever buy the game to begin with and instead play some F2P MMO or MOBA. Then add that to the count of players lost early on as well.

Now your arguement still holds a bit of water… except for one thing. The most important thing of all: MMOs are a social game. When you do not buy the game, or when you quit early on, it doesn’t just affect you, it screws everyone who wanted to play with you. Therefor the quality of their purchase has been reduced as well. Sure, they can go solo all the content because GW2 is friendly to that. Or they can go make new friends to replace you. But its not you, and their game experience won’t be all that it could’ve been, and they may end up quitting as well.

That’s the secret behind MMOs: Player retention at all costs, even the initial price. Farming, RNG gambling, etc. exist precisely to create addictions.

TL;DR: This is not an F2P game.

Modesty in Armors (Optional Side-grade)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

If you really think there is more revealing armor than “nun” armor, you have not spent very much time in your wardrobe. Even light armors only have about 10% of their total armors as revealing. No, I do not consider open arms/legs areas to be revealing. That was done on purpose even in real life in order to increase mobility. Its called LIGHT ARMOR for a reason, and its not just because its made of cloth or whatever.

Whenever I try to dress up my characters, I am constantly annoyed at having to pick from one of four “revealing” heavy sets, all of which look pretty bad, while the rest of the armors leave me looking like some kind of faceless metal box.

Enough with the Gemstore Skins/Outfits

I like the gemstore weapon skins. I do not like that they are RNG. As long as there was some reliable way to obtain them, I would support adding even more. Sadly, you currently have to blow a fortune just for one weapon, and that’s bad.

I will probably never use outfits. They don’t work on charr due to stretching and tails, and on asura my toes always stick out. So lazy. So, so very lazy.

Wasn’t the whole point of outfits to not have to be lazy anymore, to make something that would be a quality product with no clipping or other racial issues? I am just confused as to what the whole point of it all was in the end.

To me it just seems like we lost town clothes and didn’t gain anything. You can’t even mix outfits with the special headgear skins like the glasses, which are also available from the gemstore. So its a conflicting “buy this, but not this!” situation.

So you’ve already lost money from RNG and lack of customization, hmm.

As for the pro-gemstore arguments… let me say that the gemstore could be alot more than it currently is without becoming P2W. ArenaNet passes up massive amounts of ideas (e.g bunny ears, other species ears/tails, capes) that people suggest, won’t even return past retired content, and gives no explanation for any of it.

I’ve stopped buying gems… there’s just no point anymore. None of it is really good. The best gemstore items are stuff like bank slots, transmutation charges, etc.

Awkward Controls?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Check your ping in the options dialog. Games that have realtime combat (such as GW2) require a low ping in the 50-250ms range. Higher than that and it starts to result in very sluggish responses and feels like you’re playing in tar.

Rebinding it doesn’t take away the need to constantly press it. How much do you play per day? Sum up all of the time then imagine yourself holding down CTRL (or any other key) constantly for all of that, never moving that finger. Do you think that is good for you? Because it isn’t, and you’ll pay for it a few years down the road.

Fortune's Vale - Map for GLOBAL RAIDING

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The map was likely removed to prevent possible conflicts with other companies/games. It is almost a perfect clone of the standard “Three Way RvR” that other DAoC clones have adapted, including the “snow”, “desert”, and “green” areas, the overall “radiation symbol” layout, and the assignment of the colors of red, green, and blue.

Of course this is just speculation. As far as I know, nobody actually owns the concept, and this wouldn’t be the last game to use it anyway.

For some reason they avoided this overall design when making Eternal Battlegrounds. It has a strange, uneven, and unbalanced “square” layout. That makes it somewhat more fun than the standard RvR design, but also more problematic. If the objectives were arranged more symmetrically, and without Stonemist Castle in the center, offensive and defensive power of each color would be more aligned.

I can’t comment on your questions but keep in mind that by transfering to the EU if you are in North America will increase your ping time by 100ms. Its okay if your ping is already low (50-150ms), but if its in the medium range (200ms+) than your game may become unplayable as skills take a long time to respond to your keypresses.

Stability Changes were a Bad Idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Everything about this game favors zergs, and that doesn’t seem to be changing. Unless you count PvE, which was horribly unprepared for megaserver zergs.

I really wish they would look at how other PvP games are balanced, instead of just assuming that some random changes they come up with will work because they sound good on paper. Many games have already deal with these issues and found workable solutions for them by using something called logic.

As a game developer, I realize why they do it though. First its to prevent its abuse in PvE, for example on cliffside fractal where someone could just pop stability and run through all of the traps like it didn’t even matter. Second it is to prevent “jesus walking” in PvP and WvW, where players run through zergs and escape. Lastly it is to save on server resources, which is why all the “pro-zerg” mechanics such as AoE cap, conditions cap, etc. actually exist in the first place. Intensity stacking changes the number of potential calculations against the boon to an always-finite amount.

Unfortunately games have to juggle between idealism and reality. Just because something would be good for the game does not mean it is possible to do easily. That said, nothing is really imposssible in games, as they are a creative medium.

ArenaNet doesn’t care about what makes peoples’ hands or wrists hurt. I have RSI, and it is flared up daily by this game (especially loot bags and the horrible process of selling my collectibles on the TP at anything other than instant sell value).

They have done absolutely nothing to curve this, ever. Nor anything to help remedy any other health problem (poor UI organization, no high contrast, etc.).

I used to respect them alot but their continued ignorance of disabilities and just how stressful their game is on the hands has seriously irritated me for a long time now and made me stop buying gems about half a year ago. I farm gold to convert to gems instead, that way I at least have some kind of benefit from my pain.

Does Elementalist have anything over warrior?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

As others have said, Ele is the strongest class at max level with good gear, typically either full berserker (for DPS builds) or celestial (for condition/healing builds).

Note that due to their high damage modifiers, even on celestial gear the ele will still deal damage similar to other classes in full berserker gear. This means that when you really try to maximise their DPS it becomes absolutely ludicrous.

In full zerk gear on staff with many percentage bonuses from traits, sigils, etc. their damage is about 6k per crit (a level 80 Warrior has only 18k HP and would die in 3-4 hits of arcane power). In celestial gear they do good conditions (with condition duration) with decent access to burning and bleeding, and with the monk runes, sigil of benevolence, aquatic benevolence trait and rice balls their HPS is far higher than any other class bringing staff water autoattack to dedicated healer levels and making their passive Soothing Mist as strong as the Regeneration boon itself.

To fully enjoy elementalist, you will need to invest alot of time to learn all of the various skills, weapons and traits combinations, atunement rotations (or when to camp a single atunement for max DPS), etc. You will also need to understand how percentage modifiers work, and why they are important. The summoned weapons, such as lightning hammer (blast finisher) and icebow (AoE damage) are important to learn as well, as they play key roles in many fights, especially in WvW where a single well-placed icebow can obliterate a frozen enemy within seconds.

I also have extra bag slots on my ele and carry multiple gear sets so that I can fine tune my role for the situation – DPS for experts and healer carry for newbies.

They are the hardest class to level. Expect to die every few minutes as a newbie. You can survive longer by wearing tanky gear like power/vitality, and taking advantage of their numerous heals and CC. Some specs also has access to evades.

GW2 leveling is way too fast.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

I don’t know, my first campaign was Prophecies and I got my first character to level 20 just before leaving Kryta (in fact I think it was during the Divinity Coast mission). I still had the Maguuma Jungle, Crystal Desert, South Shiverpeaks and Ring of Fire to go, had barely started the ‘real’ storyline (I still thought it’d be all about the charr).

It wasn’t as fast as Factions or Nightfall, but still pretty quick compared to other games. Even in non-grindy single-player RPGs you usually won’t hit the max level until very close to the end of the game.

That does not sound very “normal”. Mobs outside of LA is lv11. Mobs outside of Sanctum Cay is lv17. Arriving at LA a character should be lv15 +/-2. If the level difference is more than 6 mobs give no experience. A 19 character would not have gotten any exp from the mobs in Divinity’s Coast. Completing the mission and bonus would have given 2k exp but you would have had to somehow get within 2k exp of leveling from even lower level mobs.

Going back on to the topic of the thread though. I have yet to see any reason given for the benefit of loitering about at lower level. “Too fast” implies there are reasons to not level. The only benefit I can think of is for opening champ bags and even that is only slightly useful.

The reason to not level is that the horrible downscaling system renders all pre-80 content childs play for a player with even a mediocre skill level. It completely ruins the fun of exploring the world, map completion, etc. because what is a serious threat to newbies turns into “kill 20 mobs at once with my whirl -sunglasses-”.

Fixing the scaling could help, but ultimately there is far too much pre-80 content in this game (most of it, in fact) to justify the current levelling speed.

And as I pointed out earlier, levelling is something that can provide alot of value to a game, despite how many people do not like it. When properly implemented, it encourages socializing, teamwork, and can even be relaxing.

ArenaNet clearly realized this with HoT, or we wouldn’t have masteries… :P

GW2 leveling is way too fast.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

I feel like the levelling is way too fast. I don’t even bother to use all of the boosters, tomes etc. that I received over time because if I make a new character i would be level 80 within a week of casual play anyway, and within days of hardcore play.

Another problem is, the levelling curve being so shallow means that players never need other players help to level. I’m not talking about grinding here, I am talking about killing mobs and doing events in a party so that you get the most benefit. The current system enforces soloing because it is not difficult enough to warrant partying.

I know the system has alot of positives, but it also has alot of negatives, and I hope that eventually ArenaNet (and players) will understand those negatives.

There’s nothing wrong with Bloodtide Coast. So please stop trying to troll other players there and here. That’s the type of toxic the community doesn’t need.

I can feel your self-entitlement steaming all the way over here.

This farm makes completing an already-time-consuming heart even more time consuming. Killing the ambients is a specific part of the heart. Any time you are breaking standard world content (hearts, events etc.) for personal gain, you are breaking the ability for others to play the game.

You guys want others to move aside and let you do what you want. But on the other hand, you will not give them the same courtesy. Think about it.

So, tengu playable? please?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

What sucks is… everything is already in place for Tengu to be added.

They have a similar design to the Charr with their stances, tail, etc. so you would just recycle 99% of the armors and make new cultural armor. They’d also need new cultural weapons, but ArenaNet makes weapon skins all the time.

They already have reserved space for their main city next to Lion’s Arch, and their beginner’s map next to Caledon Forest. And due to ArenaNet’s rule of “six maps per texture set” they could just re-use the same texture set as Southsun Cove, spice it up a little and make that the final (high level) zone of the Tengu lands by having the Tengu fleeing to it from the Destroyers or something like that.

Merge Claw Island and the rest of the Sea of Sorrows into a few other maps too, just make them mostly underwater so it doesn’t seem out of place. It would also give us a good chance to be introduced to Bubbles, the water dragon.

There’s also another unused space near Timberline Falls, and between Rata Sum and The Grove (though this is currently occupied by a copy of Cursed Shore).

Reasoning behind poor optimization

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The game engine is built upon the GW1 engine, it was not written from the ground up. The main differences is that they rewrote it entirely for shaders.

Don’t listen to people who attribute it to a certain version of DirectX, etc. They don’t know what they are talking about. The version of DirectX has absolutely nothing to do with how fast your game runs, but your programming practices.

Most DX10-12 functionality is already exposed to DX9 via vendor support.

This game was well written for its time but it was not meant to handle the huge zergs introduced by the megaserver update. In other words, the game currently has far more players in each area than it was designed for. This is blatantly obvious when you see how badly zergs overrun everything outside of Silverwastes.

WvW always had this problem due to the design of that game mode.

And no, threading or using more cores (“CPUs”) will not fix this. It is a common misconception. Everything in the game loop always has to run on a single core otherwise you get network and timing synchronization issues.

All that can fix it is tighter, highly optimized object code. But that requires extensive developer effort to profile, examine and implement.

The game has been out for nearly three years, think about that.

You know what I’d like to do? I’d like to replay through season one of living story, so that I would have a chance to actually slow down and enjoy it since it was heavily rushed and fractured at the time. Oh wait! I can’t. Nevermind.

Maybe I can do some of those jump puzzles, dungeons, and guild missions thet they added. Nevermind, they didn’t add much after the initial revisions.

Well, at least we got a few new fractals to grind out, right? But wait, that was over a year ago and people have already done them a thousand times.

I’m really trying to think of something here, I promise.

I’m tired so I’m going to sleep now. But I can tell you this much, I have a date with the Tower of Nightmares in my dreams. Because that’s the only place it exists!

how do you deal with the grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

There is no grind to 80. There is nothing even resembling a grind as far as levelling goes, when compared to other games that require weeks or months to reach the maximum level killing mobs for eight hours a day, every single day.

And these days you practically get levels for free from login rewards.

It would probably kill most modern players (like, literally make them have a heart attack) if they saw the amount of effort you had to put into games like Everquest.

I did the 1-80 grind once; at release. It was brutal and took me 3 months. My goal was 1x level a day.

I have occupied myself since release playing PvP and WvWvW. I also have leveled all other classes to 80 using tomes.

Do sPvP.

I find this quite confusing. I’ve heard players say it alot, but been unable to experience it myself despite levelling 11 alts. I have avoided all XP boosters, booster food, banners, etc. yet I still have not managed to make less than one level per hour, just from running around, doing random events, harvesting and killing aggro mobs.

Is there some hidden difficulty that I am completely missing?

I have absolutely been dying for a harder grind. I want to be able to explore more of the world at a lower level, to have real challenges. But despite my best efforts, I cannot hold back that dreaded XP bar in this game, and before I even have 30% world completion, I am already level 80 and suffering from the broken downscaling in this game that makes me power through all remaining content easily.

I guess I’m just an old timer who misses having to lift a finger to do something.

Most of my problems customizing my characters come from gender lock-outs that ArenaNet puts on characters, especially my asura and charr.

Oh, and those awful clipping issues (weapon clipping, tail clipping, etc.).

I kind of agree with you, but I don’t think is THAT limited as options offered.

Second, outfits. While I like that they exist, Anet barely releases any actual armor set now, wich is REALLY disappointing. Amor sets are far more desirable than outfits because you can mix-match stuff.

hit the nail on the head there. I’m someone that likes my armor to look like, kitten forbid, armor. Dresses, bikinis, trenchcoats, what have you, simply don’t cut it for me. the fact that light armor across the board (for men too) falls into two categories: robe or flamboyant looking whatever, shows that there’s little design variety. Especially with Reaper coming out, i’d rather my necro not look like a Jesuit priest from 1347.
Even worse, Trechcoats. I’m not really interested in my characters looking like a mall flasher or, just as scary, a mall goth. Why isn’t scaled armor a thing for medium armor as well? Can’t we get more creative with material types too? Maybe thick leather should look like thick leather and have leather plates on it? (Off topic, i’m not sure why chainmail is classified as heavy armor..)

Well i’m done ranting.

There are a few medium armors without trenchcoats. And for light, you can wear the forgeman’s armor (SE dungeon) which looks like heavy metal armor.

Where GW2 falls short imo

You know, most weapons arent even used due to meta. Why throw in more weapons? Your 1h handed hammer for guardian and warrior for example. They both already have the mace but when was the last time you saw one run around with that in WvW or something? Even some of the new HoT weapons probably wont see much use because others are so kitten meta and good.

Uh, mace is an excellent weapon on both warrior and guardian in WvW, featuring stuns and support which are some of the best things you can bring to a small group fight. Are you confusing WvW with PvE, where they are largely unused?

Also, only a small percentage of players actually play by the meta. Its just that they are the most vocal. There are thousands of veteran players that don’t even care about it, and even more almost any newbie will have no idea about it.

Anyway, people shouldn’t confuse “weapon types” with “weapon skins”. Two-handed axes for example would just be an alternative greatsword skin. Weapon types are just a generic term for “a weapon that does something in this order”, e.g the greatsword is always a big slicing weapon, so a two-handed axe would still fit it, just as a one-handed hammer would be nearly identical to a mace in all respects.

What we need are more functional weapon skins in the game. Although I am excited to see the new weapon types that are being added in HoT, as they really fill in some holes in classes (e.g, Necro cleave being limited, Engi having no good melee).

Please increase base run speed!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

Engi has 24/7 Swiftness with a single trait. They have speed easier than any other class. They also have 25% passive movement speed from a trait as well.

Guardians need a buff for speed badly, being a turtle while eveyone else is running like the wind is horrible.

It could be worse. You could be a mesmer. Poor, slow mesmers.

Mesmer zerk or PVT build with Rune of Centaur which is +Power main. Using Mirror, you can get 12.5/15 sec of Swiftness to you and allies. You can then combine it with Sigil of Speed if you want to always have movement speed , since for mesmer sigils do not matter too much as they rely on phantasms and clones instead.

You also have 30% movement speed in combat when illusions are up with a trait.

Why can't you farm materials?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

As a farmer I would PREFER MORE randomization in nodes because it would result in more money when I go to sell the mats I get from them and when I do farm for my own mats, means I can do it where ever I want. The people claiming random drops are a great system acknowledge the equality in availability through the market, not on the supply side, which has no effect on them anyways. They know that their supply is through the market, not through doing stuff.

Unless someone decides to buy up everything and price it higher. What do you do when you need mats? You then have to bite the bullet and pay because there’s no reliable way for you to farm them.

So being able to gain large amounts of gold by playing the game in many differnt ways (harvesting nodes, running dungeons, Silverwastes, etc.) and then spending that gold to buy only what you want off the trading post is “no reliable way”?

Have you ever even played any other MMO?

Obtaining the materials that you need in most games is horrible. You end up investing all of your time to get what you need because nobody sells them. Instead you have to trade one rare material for another. And it all requires farming.

Yes, people can manipulate the costs. But it requires a huge effort and for the most part it averages out and is beneficial to everyone involved.

In-game Weddings speculation

Hannelore.8153

I dont see why you need a system for ingame weddings. You can share a guildbank and change your character names. What a wonderful wedding gift. A name change scroll. :>

When you have two people playing, it becomes alot harder to manage your loot, collectibles, money and other possessions. Playing solo is far easier, when you get something you only have to worry about getting it for yourself, not getting a second copy, and never sharing it or having to debate over what to do with it.

Playing as a pair is a lot more involved than most people realize. That is why marriage systems exist, to ease that burden with the “whats yours is mine” concept and vice versa. Granted, they have their risks, just like anything.

The bottom line is someone who plays solo will likely be unable to understand.

Let me put this in a more simple way. When you sell all of your collectibles on the trading post, how much time does it take? A long time, I bet. And you no doubt encounter the “selling error” that throttles sell attempts to stop bots.

Now imagine the time and effort taken and then multiply it by two. And that is just a mild example of what managing so many resources is like.

Signets?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Because many classes have much more involved weapon skills and class mechanics than others and have a hard time paying mind to utility skills.

Take ele for example, the class can be played entirely without utility skills.

Sometimes signets are far more useful than normal utility skills, synchronize with and make far more builds possible, and promote skill rather than hinder it.

Did anyone take note of the patch size?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

How to save bandwidth:

PARTIAL PATCHING
Add -StreamingClient to the command line options for the game. You usually do this by editing its shortcut on the desktop or something similar.

Don’t let the game fully patch, instead click “Ready” after it says “Playable”.

Go into your options and disable streaming content by setting it to “Off”.

Note: I have no idea how this impacts the game.

FULL PATCHING
If you need to do a full patch, then load the game onto a Windows, Linux or Mac laptop (although the patcher likes to crash alot in Linux), head to town about once a week and fully patch the game from a public Wi-Fi hotspot.

You should also coordinate this with batch downloading of YouTube videos, etc. at the same time to minimize your at-home bandwidth usage each month.

Some things I would like to see to make the game harder:
- Fixed downscaling (lv80s no longer being too powerful on low level maps)
- All events scaled to better compensate for zergs, since they are common now with megaserver.
- All world bosses overhauled to be like Tequatl, Vinewrath, Wurm
- Meta events on all maps that lead to world bosses (e.g Queensdale meta to SB).
- Better “player-like” mechanics on the AI (make mobs evade, strafe, use more skills, etc.).
- Open world agony on lv80 maps to push ascended gear into mainstream. Everyone has access to ascended trinkets and 30AR+ without fractals anyway.
(Just sell versatile infusions from laurel merchants.)

(Likely Dev Question) Maximum Gold Capacity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Signed 32 bit number would be 214,748g 36s 47c. Unsigned 32 bit number is 429,496g 72s 95c.

Now if they use a double precision floating point number, then the gold value could be at 11 digits long which is shy of 100 billion in gold.

Fixed point is always used for calculations when currency is involved (even in games). Using floating point would introduced rounding errors.

It’s to do with accuracy regarding base 10 decimals:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3730019/why-not-use-double-or-float-to-represent-currency

The game likely uses 32.32 fixed point internally to calculate fractional values such as trading post fees or gem exchange and then round them to integers, so the maximum range would be similar to a 32-bit integer when rounded.

3 Years for 1 Expansion.....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Season 2 of living story was “expansion-level” to me. It added new maps, its fully replayable, and it gives good rewards with nice acheivements. It even had multiple cinematics done in the style of the personal story.

Season 1 was a joke. Its gone, and I can barely remember most of it. It served little purpose other than to give people something to do, rack up AP, and leave a huge hole in the storyline that will now be insanely difficult to fill. New players coming to the game have absolutely no knowledge or care about it, they see only the mistakes that ArenaNet made in the conception of the living world story.

Therefor, in two years we have received one mini-expansion and will be receiving a new full expansion sometime this year or early next year. That’s not too bad, but I still feel like the first year of the game ruined morale, especially since the best highlights of the first season (mainly the festivals like dragon bash, and bosses like Twisted Marionette) will not be returning which is just mega sad face.

Charr need a rework !

Hannelore.8153

Don’t you dare take away running on all four from my Charries! Q_Q

The running on all fours is a nice touch, I just wish it felt more fluid and less like a slow lope.

Cats do not move fluidly, they “bound”, which is an agile, low lift hop. Watch a video of a cheetah running – it places both of its front legs down on the ground, and then completely lifts both of its hind legs off the ground. This is in contrast to other species that move fluidly by placing left leg, right leg, left leg, etc.

Its the whole reason they move so fast. ..

It feels slow on Charr because they can’t give you extra movement speed to match the animation otherwise it would become a balance problem in WvW.

Elementalist - HoT weapons?

Hannelore.8153

They seem to be trying to avoid giving the Ele any weapons that they can already summon. So we won’t be seeing shield, axe, shortbow, hammer or greatsword.

That pretty much leaves swords, since longbows and rifles don’t fit them. Its also alot easier for them to implement a 1H weapon than a 2H on Ele’s skill layout.

Personally, I would’ve prefered the shortbow since Ele lacks a good range 600 weapon (I don’t count daggers because that’s only in one atunement). Everything is always playing at close combat or from max range with scepter and staff.

Though I guess most classes are like that, which is a shame.
