There’s acctualy alot to do, alot of content is stuffed into different achivements and Collections. There’s alot of fun i think

Its stretched content that consists mostly of grinding out the same goals over and over. Some of the map rewards for example require you to do the meta event several dozen times for a few items, and some of the more rediculous achievements even require doing things at least a couple hundred times in total.

Do you really consider that fun… ?

You must not’ve played very many other MMOs if you think rubberbanding content to make people feel rewarded for their money is a good thing. Playing psychological games with players helps the game in the short term, but damages its long term reputation and has lead to the demise of many popular games.

The expansion is good, I’ll give you that. But I’ll stand by my opinion that it took too much from the core game, and gave too little for the price.

Especially that awful, rushed and buggy story… :/

Will they ever fix "Giver's" armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

Bit late to reply to this, but I’m going to explain why this won’t happen. Basically, they cannot update non-HoT content with HoT statistics. Unfortunately, as unfair as it may be, the Giver’s and Celestial sets were in widespread use before HoT. Afterall, Giver’s was the only way to get boon duration on your gear outside of runes and doubloons. This means they can’t “backport” the new stats onto the old sets because they are not HoT gear, and it would give core game players access to those stats, which is something that they seem to’ve gone to great lengths to avoid.

There is another minor issue, boon duration and condition duration are not the same as concentration and expertise. The former give a fixed bonus that is not affected by downscaling, while the later are affected by downscaling.

Giver’s would be more powerful than the new stats in maps below level 80.

My personal wish would be for them to re-introduce these two sets as HoT content but crafted entirely from separate components. This way we could have for example true Celestial all-stat gear with concentration and expertise added, but those wearing the classic Celestial gear from the core game would be unaffected.

For Giver’s, the downscaling issue could be mitigated by taking the average.

You’re all missing the point.

The problem is not the disconnect, the problem is that when you DC or crash you lose everything, your map, your rewards, your time, all for nothing.

This is actually ruining the game since the expansion content depends on people staying in the maps for large periods of time, often several hours. In such a system there must be a way to preserve progress because if something can go wrong, it will go wrong, that’s just the nature of life. Always better safe than sorry.

Maybe I have a slow computer?
Maybe I have a bad internet connection?
Maybe I crash from out of memory on the 32-bit client?
Maybe the game had a bug?
Maybe there’s a power or net outage?

Please stop assuming everything is okay for everyone and add mechanics to keep your map slot and participation for a short time. Its really neccessary.

Magic find - current state and improvements?

These claims about what MF affects and what it does not are very difficult to prove. It mostly goes with whatever way you believe it works.

So before asking question about its usefulness, you first need to provide proper test results. Are pop-up chests, map-wide metas and map currency not affected by MF? Prove it.

Back during the MF and champ bag overhauls I’m pretty sure ArenaNet directly stated that chests and champion bags are not affected by MF.

It is for loot drops only, which does not count containers of any sort. The only exception to this I know of is when opening Lost Bandit Chests in Silverwastes, but those aren’t technically containers. They instead work more like champions that you uh, kill with a shovel. Something like that.

Please no, the story is broken enough as it is. Huge chunks of it are missing and there’s plot holes all over the place thanks to Living Story S1.

Imagine being a new player and having to deal with this. To come into a game where you can barely follow the lore and are thrown from one team of heroes (DE) to the next (DE2.0, who you don’t even know) without any explanation.

You can do permanent changes on a temporary basis. But they need to reset every now and then so that the game can have a future. As fun as it may have been, LS1 effectively set the game back an entire year. That year almost doesn’t exist in the game’s current state aside from Scarlet destroying LA and awakening Mordremoth and that was pretty much only at the very end of LS1.

Its also likely thanks to this that HoT was so rushed and hodge-podge.

So, I went to check Blade & Soul

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Why would it be a threat to GW2? Blade & Soul is NCSOFT, so is GW2. And thus far, GW2 has beaten all other NCSOFT games in investment.

I recommend checking the quarterly reports, they’re a good read.

That said, my main quip about GW2 in comparison to other MMOs of that style is that it still lacks decent non-Human races. The Asura are great, and the Charr are okay for furries (except that the image players portray them as – fuzzy kitties – clashes with their actual in-game lore and society), but all other races are just copy and paste of Humans, including the Sylvari who are basically just wood elves.

TBH I’d play “horrible” games like Blade & Soul just to have a character that doesn’t look like they stepped out of someone’s clipboard.

Reanimate Dungeons reward !

Dungeons are dead. They’ve been slowly dying for a long time,

I’m okay with the focus on fractals and raids, but I hate to see all that wasted content, so I’d like them converted to open world accessible event chains and for the story dungeons to be converted to personal story missions like Arah.

Rewards were problematic because its liquid gold and ruins the econemy.

Too expensive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They obviously don’t want these lillies dropping too often because its the ideal WvW set. Dire was already heavily used without condition duration.

i’m currently working on my Necro, with trailblazer’s armor and trinkets, giver’s weapons, nightmare runes, sigil of malice and super veggie pizzas. She’s getting something like 80% duration on all conditions (100% on bleed and chill) and stacks that on top of the 33% scepter basic duration boost.

Combine that with tons of tough and vit and you can see the problem.

Since when did GW2 become a Hardcore MMO?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The core game was absolutely pathetic in terms of difficulty, and still is. However HoT meta events and raids take this a bit too far, not because they are super difficult, but because ArenaNet returned to cheese mechanics like 2 hour map metas and timers on absolutely everything even though they should’ve learned by now.

Its like everything that was bad about the game in the last three years was presented to the head content designer and s/he said “Exceeeeeelent”.

Challenge is not cheap. Challenge is also not cheese.

This is also why eSports will fail, because it makes the classic PvP game mistake of being full of cheese. Most PvP matches are reduced either to dying in a few seconds, or living forever, and because of the boring game modes neither of them actually accomplish anything! When I think of game modes like WvW and PvP, I think massive sieges, complex battle tactics, epic adrenaline-pumping one-on-one battles where every single skill cast has a chance to determine the outcome of the fight.

Not… whatever this is. Playing PvP in this game is like playing Quake 3: Team Arena with simplistic, strange and half-broken combat mechanics. If they’re serious about eSports, hire some people who made PvP games before.

Dev's said Healing Power was weak ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Healing got a huge boon when they added percentage scaling items. Its possible to reach more than 150% on many builds now, so healing can behave alot like DPS gear. Healing Power itself is still not very good and I rarely stat it, however.

But I imagine that a maximum healing power Elementalist with the maximum percentage bonuses can probably tick 400/sec+ from Soothing Mist which beats out pretty much every other regeneration in the game (plus they can add in Regeneration boon on top of that, maybe staff water auto-attack, etc.). The bigger problem is that right now there is no content that requires that: Boons, CC and other support are better in HoT maps than pure healing, and everything else in the game is pretty much just a boss one-hitting you and not leaving any room for healing.

I have two dedicated healers, one is an Tempest running Scepter/Warhorn with a boon-distributing aura build in Celestial gear, and the other is a Herald running Ventari and Glint with maximum boon duration. Both of them have only around 1k of healing power when stacked and I don’t see a point in any more.

Lessons that I have learned.
- If you’re running a healer, use mixed gear, not “full support” gear, so that you aren’t a complete deadweight to the team (except maybe in raids?).
- Focus on percentage increases like Sigil of Transferance rather than Healing Power.
- Focus more on boons than direct heals whenever possible.
- If you really want to play full support and max healing power, max your percentage healing as well and play a class with a regeneration aura. Effects like the Guardian’s Virtue of Resolve and Elementalist’s Soothing Mist become borderline broken when you push them to their limits in a group setting.

Sadly, Druid is mostly useless. Zero damage even on mixed gear. I suggested to add some burning ticks to the staff auto but was quickly dismissed.

2) The Merchant is at the started map waypoint area at Tangled Depths.
3) Insignia/inscription cost 250 Ley Line Crystals each.
4) I was make the Insignia but it seems a bug because when i was ready to make the new piece of armor at Mystic forge the Insigia dont show up at Mystic Forge boxes.

Hope i help and Good Luck.

I think you can also buy it from Tarir, in an underground cavern in the top right corner of the city there is a Nuhoc Mastery Vendor there in some water.

High Ping = No Map Completion For You!

My partner lives in AU and we were able to get around this with Mesmer portals (although she was able to complete 99% of it herself with practice).

Everything in the game works fine for her except gliding, even Labyrinthine Cliffs.

Solution: Auto Use Glider checkbox. Require spacebar to deactivate instead of activate. This will ensure that high ping users get maximum uptime. Landing will still be problematic but fall damage traits can at least help with that.

Why can't we move around the UI elements?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The UI team for this game is very bad.

They seem to favor “simplicity”, the problem is that definition is their own and doesn’t come from the players. Because of this alot of information is missing from the UI which makes combat difficult (e.g, an always visible combat log so you can both chat and watch the skills you’re being hit with at the same time).

There are dozens of UI features implemented in even the most basic indie MMO that have yet to make their way to the GW2 UI and the developers have never really given a reason beyond that they don’t want to clutter it up. Yet at the same time they keep trying to push more advanced content like PvP and raids that the game just cannot handle with the current UI limitations.

You can’t make a “pro” game with a “poor” user interface.

Reaching 100% Condition Duration?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Be careful.

Vipers and other similar sets use the new stats which get downscaled when you’re <lv80. If you want to maintain a flat percentage without downscaling at the cost of a bit of damage, use Giver’s weapons with Sigil of Malice.

Easiest way to max:
Super Veggie Pizza (budget, but good enough)
Giver’s weapons , or one of the new stat combos like Viper
Superior Sigil of Malice in one slot
Nightmare runes from Twilight arbor
Armor and jewelry with Expertise (possible only on HoT).

Its really not easy to hit 100% for more than one condition. But you should be able to reach 60-80% with relative ease and many classes have ways of extending this.

Raids NOT Color blind Friendly...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Hand, wrist, and arm disabilities

  • Reduce clicking. Add options like:
    “Open all bags”,
    “Salvage all greens”
    “Sell all minor sigils”
  • Improve autoattack.
  • Separate support and offensive skills. Right now you can’t enable the “always cast AoE skills on enemy” option to radicially accelerate casting, because if you try to use a support skill e.g on the Druid, IT GOES TO THE ENEMY. WHAT.

One-handed gameplay (loss of a limb)

  • Improve mouse support. Allow cycle-casting skills with mouse wheel.
  • Improve auto-targetting.
  • Add in-game voice chat like Blizzard games.

Colorblindness

  • This is easy, add a high contrast mode like most games have. Typically blue and orange are the colors used, but making it configurable would help.
    Neutral: White
    Good: Blue
    Bad: Orange

Spatial focus, problems seeing 3D, etc.

  • Improve the minimap to tell you where you are, rather than just trying to display it pictographically. Physically show the location name, distance to the next objective, whether its higher or lower, all on the minimap HUD as a textural read-out that is easy to follow, not just as ambiguous icons.
  • Make the world map not take up the entire freaking screen. Put it in a window. This would also greatly improve WvW gameplay (no more dying to a Thief or running off a cliff because you were trying to check fort status).
  • Show dots for all players, not just those in a party or guild (like WvW).

Visual impairment (partial blindness)

  • Improve halo support. Add thick borders around all objects.
  • Add a way to clearly mark which skills are more blindless friendly, for example skills that are auras, autocast or otherwise passive, like signets and banners.
(This could help with one-handed gameplay as well.)

Audio impairment (deafness)

  • Add an option for increased visual queues, like screen shaking.
  • Better subtitle support. Many NPC dialog liines do not appear in chat (bug?).

Epilepsy and similar

  • Tag each graphical effect with a priority, this would range from 1-10. Then add a slider that eliminates everything below a certain level.
  • Smooth out transitions using interpolation curves.
  • Try to use a more consistent color palette, like brown-yellow-white. Don’t flash pink or purple all the time just because a Mesmer is attacking.
  • Add skill icons above players and enemies’ heads to replace graphical effects.

General improvements

  • Add freaking life bars and buff bars to our allies so we can stop freaking spaming everything that we have at random hoping we hit someone who needs it.

Lore-wise, its been cleansed and will take time to regrow, but Tequatl is still leading the Risen armies on Sparkfly Fen and causing trouble here and there.

In reality, its abandoned. I doubt they ever plan to revisit it for any reason. Even though this would be immensely cool and they have the technology to do multiple copies of a map now (e.g corrupted Orr and cleansed Orr), they probably won’kittens old content and that’s exactly what they view it as.

Zealot Gear price

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Some stats are more popular than the others and its normal for them to get pricy.
Some exotics are crafted with hard to come by mats and it just pumps the price of the final product even more.

Also, there are base stats, and “newly added” stats. The newly added stats are often more popular and stronger in some way from the base stats in the game , that also makes the price of the gear even more pricy.

nothing wrong here

In this case it was because the stat combo was added in a Living World event and while the materials can still be obtained , its far slower than before. Basically a bunch of people want this gear and its very low supply and high demand.

Watchwork sprockets only come from two sources now, the mining node in the home instances for those who got it, and Watchwork Mining Picks.

Do People Still Do Dungeons? Or Fractals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Since dungeons are pretty much ruined and abandoned (they never really got enough bug fixes or balance patches anyway), maybe its time to open up the terrain to the open world and convert the stories to event chains, at least then people will particpate in them and they won’t just be massive chunks of terrain that are used by ten people a month to get dungeon tokens for what is now very outdated gear.

I’d take a lv80 Ruined City of Arah event map over HoT maps any day…

Gliding doesn't work well enough when you lag

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Hannelore.8153

Online games do not work well enough when you lag.

This.

It sucks, but the reality here is that Anet doesn’t have an oceanic server cluster and the game is not (and won’t ever be) designed to play with a 200ish ping.

You’re connecting to a game you know is going to be laggy and unresponsive, then complaining it is laggy and unresponsive.

Anet needs to just establish an oceanic cluster for you guys alreaday. There are so many people I see on US servers and I’d bet just as many on EU servers that a small cluster would easily pay for itself.

To be honest, my partner plays just fine on 300-400ish ping in the entire game. Most game mechanics work fine and lag really only destroys gliding. Even accurate dodge rolls can usually be done on a high ping if you see the tell coming…

Labyrinthine Cliffs and Dry Top were a pain but not impossible.

Even gliding works if the dang thing will open on time, but it almost never does. But when it does manage to open then its all good after that.

Guild Buffs for F2P

not only disabled for F2P but also for Paid core game

see thread :
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guild-boon-disabled-for-non-HoT-players/5723332

In their (ArenaNet) eyes the paid core game no longer exists save for a few less restrictions. If you aren’t a HoT player then you are playing the game for Free.

This is blatantly obvious by all the changes to the core game.

Contested Waypoints

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Contested waypoints are the only salvation the waypoint system has. Waypoints are used excessively in this game, to the point where many of the community requested that as much as half of them be removed during the Dragon’s Reach update, because they cheapen pretty much everything in the game.

If not for contested waypoints, it would be even cheaper. Bosses like Tequatl would become extremely easy because you could just waypoint zerg it over and over again. This is why most of the contested waypoints exist to begin with.

Hostile zones are meant to be hostile. You are in the dragon’s domain. There’s no point in taking away challenge, immersion and sense of danger for all other players so you can save a minute or so on a glider flight. Approaching these maps knowing that you can die and have to start all over again makes you think twice about everything you do, helping you play better, and increases surrealism.

I’m saddened by how easy everyone wants games to be these days. :/

i am just playing , how can i do it wrong if i enjoy playing like i do ?

You can enjoy it all you like but it is not at all efficient. Being a clicker in any sort of party you are a detriment.

And you’re a detriment coming into a thread with unrelated posts. Besides, its actually faster to click skills 6-0 and use your left hand only for 1-5 otherwise you have to take your fingers off WASD and you lose movement accuracy. That’s okay maybe when stacking in dungeons but its not such a good idea in PvP situations.

To OP: I believe there is such an option, but I can’t tell you where it is. It should be located with all the other checkboxes in the settings dialog.

Quick and Dirty Guide to Breakbars

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The Tempest’s lightning atunement is pretty much a breakbar destroyer, especially with the warhorn equipped. The #4 skill on warhorn travels in a line and rapidly depletes a breakbar, usually to about half of its normal level. The lightning atunement overload produces an electrical field which causes allies to do dazing strikes, receive stun barriers and some other neat stuff that is useful against breakbars.

Druid: Why physical?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

What I don’t understand is the decision to make the druid’s staff only have physical damage, when nearly all healing power based sets in the game are centered around condition damage.

There are 12 sets with Healing Power as a stat. There are 4 that also offer the Condition Damage stat, and 5 that offer one or more direct damages stats. Remove Celestial, and the numbers become 11, 3 and 4. This is hardly “nearly all HP based sets.” Cleric and Zealot prefixes are particularly well known, and Cleric’s is one of the most available sets with HP.

Perhaps your issue is that direct damage requires three stats for maximum stat benefits, whereas Condi needs 2 — one of which appears on no HP based sets. Thus, a set which sacrifices a direct damage stat for HP is weaker than one that does not, whereas Condi only sacrifices max stat benefit because there are no sets with Condi, HP and Expertise (in before someone demands such a set).

As to why the decision to go for direct damage on staff? Perhaps it’s because of an ANet desire for variety, with several existing options for heal-other with ready access to conditions. Perhaps it was a balance decision, since on reveal the Druid heals were quite powerful and, as noted, direct damage sacrifices more to stat HP than Condi does.

I don’t count sets that are almost exclusively used in PvE because they are glassy. No one would ever use such a build in PvP or WvW because a healer that dies in five seconds is not of any use to the team whatsoever. It likely won’t fly in raids either. Although you have a very detailed breakdown of the situation, its pointless if your observations fail to take into account practical applications outside of dungeons, fractals and general open-world farming and meta events.

Clerics is not a physical damage set. It has medium power and nothing else. No matter how much of it you equip you will do no almost damage to anything because the Ranger/Druid already have low damage modifiers on their weapons. This is actually something that my original post addressed.

For something to count as a physical damage set it really needs to have either maximum power or combine power with precision and ferocity (e.g zealots), which is something that is rare to find outside of glass combos and mixes.

I understand your point here, and I’m not trying to be antagonistic. But it seems like you just came into this thread trying to tell me how wrong I am without really thinking about the meaning behind what I was trying to say. When I talk about playing a Druid with a healing set on staff, I’m talking about playing it in practical situations, in more than one game mode, and not being a useless healbeam emitter. Again, as my original post points out, that capacity currently comes from the pet, but this varies wildly by pet choice and trait build (presence of pet line).

I don’t think its unrealistic to expect a healer to be able to hold their own and not just be meat when their allies start going down. This is a mistake that almost all games make with dedicated healers, and until now GW2 avoided it by not having them. Sure, you still have your utility skills and weapon swap, but once you do that you’re not working with a dedicated healer anymore, you’re just a Ranger with a few fancy healing spells accessible for a short amount of time by pressing F5.

And if you’re focusing on offensive abilities, that refills very slowly too.

This is just my personal opinion, and no one is required to share it. But I feel like the staff Druid is not in the best place right now. Maybe it was at reveal, or during beta, but from what I’ve heard its been ground into dust since then.

So much time wasted

Hannelore.8153

It’d be great if ANet changed the map switching system to how it is in WvW, so if we want to switch maps we just que for it instead of spamming “Join in X.” I’m pretty sure people have been saying this for a while, but the devs have been silent on this problem…

It took them two years just to fix the queuing system for WvW to take players in the order they originally queued up instead of the most recent/random ones.

They clearly can’t do queues (no offense guys).

The best part of the game is still when you go through all of this effort, find a decent map on DT, SW, VB, AB, TD or DS, spend an hour doing all the events and then right at the end get a five second lag spike that disconnects you and you lose everything. No map slot, no event credit, no rewards, nothing. Being in a party helps but there’s still no reserved spots for party members after all this time, you still have to sit there and spam “join in map” over and over praying for someone else to DC.

Super mega ultra fun stuff.

Druid: Why physical?

I have a sigil in my staff that triggers a flame blast and on top of that I run sun spirit which has a chance to apply burning. Seems to get the job done in terms of condition damage.

Flame blasts (and other DPS sigils) require the set to include Precision stat. And by equipping them you’re trading off valueable sigils like LIfe/Benevolence, so I wouldn’t say that you’re really running a druid-staff-healer build anymore…

There’s absolutely no point to equip the staff if you aren’t running a healing build, all the other weapons are much better for other builds.

Druid: Why physical?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I’m a bit confused with the Druid class. I have two of them that play in completely different builds, with one obvious being a staff healer. What I don’t understand is the decision to make the druid’s staff only have physical damage, when nearly all healing power based sets in the game are centered around condition damage. Also, non-dedicated sets like celestial seem to do more damage with conditions than with physical damage on weaker damage classes like the Ranger/Druid.

I know this class is supposed to be a dedicated healer, but I seem to do almost zero damage aside from my pet when wielding the staff. I know various forum threads have pointed out that the Druid can give massive damage boosts to party members, however these boosts only work with certain traits and with glyphs. Those running other support builds such as spirits do not get most of them.

Honestly at this point I’d be satisfied even for single stack on burning on Solar Beam so I don’t have to watch my pet kill everything with its 1-2k crits which seems something around five times the damage I do with the staff.

This Guild Hall talk has to stop!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

I really really really don’t understand where this “small guilds can not have Guild Halls/Favor” talk is comming from. I see a lot of topics on it and people are saying the biggest nonsense I’ve ever seen here on the forums.

My guild has 2 people. Me and my wife.
We have our guild hall. We have almost 2000 favor. And we even have upgrades in our guild hall. The coolest thing that I am very proud of is the fact that until now we did not even spend gold on the upgrades, (and believe when I say we have more then enough gold/materials) what means that with patience and farming you can have this upgrades for almost free until a certain point.

Before HOT we could not even start a mission. We could not even obtain merits!

I don’t know about all this people saying otherwise but they just talk nonsense. The one thing HOT really did for us is making guilds very small guild friendly. Please friends do some more effort when you want to achieve something. Don’t come here on the forums asking for everything to be thrown at you.

FOX…

Oh look, another “I don’t care that you got owned” thread. Sigh

Please explain how you did this because me and my partner are veterans who had a small guild of 4-5, forged entirely by us, with full level 6 upgrades before the update, yet we cannot even complete the mission to claim our guild hall because it overwhelms a few players. If you got help from another guild, your entire post is useless because it just shows that you had to find workarounds anyway.
