Race should matter in PvE, because it would greatly enhance the immersion and lore.

In PvP, and WvW, race should not matter. In fact, it must not.

Fighting cats in home instance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

This is something that has been bothering me and my friends for a long time now.

Most of us who do the Hungry Cats quests tend to do so because we are animal lovers. However, at one point hungry cats were introduced that, when fed, would add a mess cats to your home instance that do nothing but fight each other.

Many people who fed these cats did so immediately after the patch release, before they could be properly documented and assuming that they would just add new (docile) cats to the home instance as it had been in the past.

So I’m asking, can we please get an option to remove the fighting cats?

Out of my entire friend group, no one has found it amusing. We all love animals and do not like to see them fighting for any reason; and would not have fed them if we had known they would be appear in the instance like this.

I know it seems overkill but imagine if you are a veterinarian or something …

I haven’t asked about this before because it seemed like home instance had been abandoned, however with Draconis Mons some changes were made.

Can someone confirm if they actually ported it to a native client or if they just wrapped it up again in a modern version of 64-bit Wine ?

You should read that thread:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Feedback-Guild-Wars-2-Mac-64-Bit-Client/first#post6626279

That thread tells me nothing about the underlying mechanics of the port, just the problems people are having with it with vague info from the devs.

I just checked it myself. Suprisingly, it appears to be a native port ! All of the proper frameworks are in place without a hint of Wine or Winelib. This basically means that the 64-bit client codebase, despite ArenaNet just changing a number on it, has absolutely nothing to do with the 32-bit client. :o

I think the dev is denying that it is a wrap up 64 bit client

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Feedback-Guild-Wars-2-Mac-64-Bit-Client/first#post6626279

Yes, I see that now, thank you.

However: They also say that getting the OpenGL renderer in the Windows version is not going to happen (for now), which means no passthrough.

Getting a native Linux client is about 10% as likely as that, even.

Graphics Update in last patch?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Its also normal for them to rewrite the low and medium shaders occasionally. The current implementation of low shaders is far beyond what the game launched with, this is because they are adapting them to last-gen (presumably) entry-level hardware over time, which is of course improving in capabilities each year.

For example, current low shaders resemble old medium shaders quality, while at launch low shaders looked like a bad version of World of Warcraft or something.

This is never documented in the changelog or wiki, and you can only notice if you play at these setting for a long time and can see the differences.

They make similar changes to the game world. Many areas of the game world are changed without any notice to look better, and to fix slowdowns caused by graphical bugs. This is also something you can’t notice unless you’ve played the game alot.. that even the Core Tyria maps are much more detailed now than at launch.

For example ,in Rata Sum, the lights around the accounting area used to be directly in the middle, but now they are off to the hallways and the accounting area is dark. Similarly, Guilded Hollow recently had a bunch of texture changes where they tried to make the floors look better by replacing bad textures).

Compare GH treasure room at HoT launch to now and you will see what I mean.

I imagine that these changes are too frequent for the various development teams to keep track of them, so they are undocumented.

This contradictory argument is coming from one of the people responsible for GW2 running on Wine for the last three years or so. And I did read the thread, but I felt the need to do a detailed writeup for everyone anyway.

I haven’t checked the new client, but the old Mac client was just Cider (a Wine bottle). Can someone confirm if they actually ported it to a native client or if they just wrapped it up again in a modern version of 64-bit Wine ?

Maybe I’ll check it myself when I get time. Busy busy …

Hannelore.8153

I made a joke about this in guild chat when I got lucky and picked a Maguuma Lily, saying that I only need 8 more to get my Amalgamated Gemstone.

Just ignore the recipe, it does no harm. Would be great for people who need lilies if it was possible to salvage gemstones and get 9 lilies back ^^

with the super low drop rate, you got to wonder where the supply actually comes from.

Even with this very low drop rate, there are thousands of people farming Jungle Plants, and only a handful actually need lilies. It’s mainly used for Trailblazer’s stats, right? I think it’s not meta, for condition damage people get Viper’s stats.

Trailblazer is the de facto WvW condi meta (and for raids), its just the LWS3 trinkets that can select Trailblazer stats reduced the Magumma Lily consumption alot.

Forced Rezing in Group Boss Fights.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

I’m going to highlight the actual problem …

Rezzing in this game is dumb, at least in PvE. The whole resurrection system (limited rezz skills, not working on defeated players, needing to rub them at melee range for a verry long time) makes sense in WvW and PvP, but not in PvE.

This entire system only has one purpose in PvE: To rezz people after the battle is over, after they have already missed everything. Or, to get players in alot of danger trying to rezz them during the battle, which usually not only does not succeed, but also makes everything worse if the encounter has alot of AoE attacks, etc.

Please do away with the rubbing system entirely in PvE.

We know that the developers feel healing is the weakest form of support, but rezzing is still important; not only do dead players contribute nothing to the battle, and can even be a liability; but moreover, that player that is dead is having no fun, in a video game.

We’ve all been there, sitting and watching people whack away at a boss for what feels like an eternity while we’re flattened and grayed out and can’t resurrect ourselves because its a dungeon or a fractal and our party is in combat.

This is not only boring and unrewarding, but it is also a waste of people’s time, something that is in short supply in this day and age.

Manual or forced waypointing is not the solution, because while old maps have alot of waypoints, the new ones don’t and the forced vertically also means that it can take literally 5-10 minutes just to get back to an encounter, assuming you have the neccessary masteries to do so at that. And I suspect this will only get worse over time, as players have been begging for less waypoints for years in order to create a more challenging game that doesn’t allow WP zerging encounters.

All classes have heal skills, most (all?) classes have rezz skills, make this viable alternatives to bring allies back to life. If you really want to prevent a better resurrection system from being too powerful, bring back significant armor damage penalties to keep a cap on how many times it can be viable.

These legendaries need some love

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The only legendary I own is Howler, and its why I didn’t make another one. I was extremely disappointed in it after all of the effort.

- The aura, while beautiful on large characters, is also far harder to notice on Asura than the other legendaries, because of incorrect scaling of particles
- The sounds and visual effects are completely lost in the class-specific effects, especially those of the Tempest (which are very noisey)

Also I’d like to add that overall, most of what legendaries bring seem almost unnoticeable compared to their extreme cost (except the greatswords, at least).

There are many non-legendary items in the game that even better, visually, too.

Legendaries are mostly just an expensive aura of varying quality.

Who are we to other players and others to us?

in Living World

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Its a complicated subject, but the gist of it is this:

- In the Personal Story, you’re the Pact Commander, and everyone who has joined you are Pact soldiers (not to be confused with your team).

- In the open world, you are the original Pact Commander, and there are also other Pact Commanders, these are the people using Commander pins and running the meta events. For example, in Dragon’s Stand, the person leading each lane is the Pact Commander who is organizing the troops for that assault, and all of the other players are just troops from the three orders and such.

- The original Pact Commander’s role in the open-world events is dubious, but in general its assumed that the story missions take place in-between open-world events, as was established with the original Personal Story, Orr, Dry Top/Silverwastes, and most of Heart of Maguuma, the only exception being Dragon’s Stand meta, which is presumed to take place at the same time in story and open-world.

People also seem to forget that there are a bunch of Central Tyria maps that are also annoying tiered, its just less noticeable because half the map is underwater. Go to places like, Frostgorge Sound, Lornar’s Pass, Malchor’s Leap, etc. and you will quickly start to become annoyed at the height variance (if you’re the type).

Try swimming from the deepest areas to walking to the highest areas – ouch !

Some parts of Malchors Leap are even as bad as Bloodstone Fen, its just that without wind gusts and ley lines no one notices because when you walk up to your destination (Temple of Lyssa, Dwayna, etc.) its a smoother transiton.

What really set the HoT maps apart was having no way to walk to your destination, however this is not the case in Draconis Mons which has land paths.

My Condi Fix

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The biggest problem with condition builds are the fact you only need the one stat for the damage, where as power builds require 3 stats in harmony.

The biggest improvement to how condition damage works would be to require power and precision to up it’s damage rather than just condition damage alone. You want a powerful condi build, you’ve got to have pow/prec to get that. How to go about reworking that is up for debate.

What ? This isn’t very accurate.

A condition build using just Condition Damage doesn’t do hardly any DPS, the people you see doing really high DPS with condition builds are running a three stat combination of Condition Damage, Condition Duration/Concentration, and Precision to land conditions on critical hits/sigils (Warrior, Ranger, Guardian, Engi, etc.).

Viper gear is used for those three stats, not the additional Power.

If any classes can do high DPS with a stock “Condition Damage” build (such as full Dire), then its something very class (and usually, weapon) specific (say, scepter Necro?) and not something that is global to the game itself …

The people who critisize condition builds as being “easy” have clearly never had to make one or seen it countered by an enemy player or encounter.

Oakheart's Essence: Guild Hall Oops

It seems that the developers made a small oversight with the new item that you can put in guild halls that gives Oakheart’s Reach when touched.

There’s a sealed-off area of guild halls that is only supposed to be accessible at level 40 after the guild purchases an upgrade, however now this area is accessible to anyone who has the mastery and 2 (maybe 3?) uses of this item.

Is this intended or a bug ?

Can anyone explain the agro table?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Short answer : Its random.

Long answer: The mobs have an internal AI which keeps track of many things, but instead of following a script like most other games its a bunch of weighted conditions based upon the situation at hand, and the specific type of enemy.

Basically what this means is, the mob will change targets depending on what it feels is the best target to attack in that situation, after evaluation. A good example is the revive ability, which will make almost any mob aggro you immediately because of the supportive role of it; but afterwards they will probaly go back to prefering the highest damager, in order to better protect themself.

But the general rule of thumb is, the first player to get the mob’s attention will stay aggroed until it has reason to change aggro, and things like, that player getting downed, or moving away, or reducing DPS, or other players using support skills and reviving, will change this aggro to them for either short or long periods of time, again entirely dependant on what is happening in the encounter.

The biggest difference between mobs is that each of them is tuned, to varying initial settings, such as prefering to attack tanks, or prefering to attack DPS, etc. Raids especially have bosses that have had their aggro tuned for classic Holy Trinity style groups, while dungeon bosses will usually expect players to all be DPS.

The later is mostly a relic of pre-HoT using a very (extremely) basic AI, which was rewritten entirely for the expansion release.

Linux Client

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Expecting the game to be ported to Linux when it has only one real bug on Wine (a patching bug) compared to Windows is highly unlikely, its basically saying to the developers “hey, I know you guys put alot of work into getting this working good on Wine but I want a native client anyway so I can get double FPS”.

Here’s the problem though: That wouldn’t actually happen. The framerate problems that you see in the game also happen on Windows, it is due to the age of the GW2 engine since it is also based upon the GW1 engine from like 2001. Its been ported to newer DirectX versions and rewritten several times (first before release, then with HoT), but at its core its still the same old engine.

A native client would use OpenGL without a translation layer, and thus would free up a bit of overhead to be spent on processing dynamic objects, but it wouldn’t make a huge difference except in zergs of say, 50+ players (WvW, bosses, etc.). The majority of content, including structured PvP, story, dungeons, fractals, and the average open world experience with 5-10 players around, would be unaffected.

What can help is to use Wine Staging instead of stock Wine. Stock Wine, as many distributions package it, has a severe threading bug that affects games like GW2 and Starcraft 2 where the thread locking mechanisms effectively reduce the game to a single thread even though it is multithreaded. A technology called CSMT is designed to mitigate this somewhat, and can be enabled in Wine Staging, increasing the maximum CPU utilisation of the game from a single core to two full cores.

Furthermore, if you’re using an NVIDIA card, you can enable threaded optimisations and increase the CPU utilisation to nearly three full cores (average 280%).

UHD 4K UI

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

I’ll explain why this is unlikely , in a way that everyone can understand.

The reason 4k user interfaces are possible in modern operating systems, particular in the desktop and in web applications, is because these systems use Scalabe Vector Graphics (SVG), TrueType Fonts (TTF) or similar technologies when rendering everything, so it all just scales to whatever resolution or DPI you are using.

This is not the case with video games, because video games have to use textures. You can’t just upload an SVG file to the graphics card and have it render it. OpenGL and DirectX support scalable user interfaces but NOT what you texture them with, so unless the textures are really high resolution, it becomes super blurry.

Let’s just assume that, between all the professions, all the skills, all the traits, all the armor and weapons, and everything else in the game, there’s about maybe 10,000 icons. Not only would ArenaNet have to redraw all of those in a high resolution, but you would need a minimum of 256×256 textures for the icons and they would take up an additional ~1.9GB of space (much less with JPG/DXT, but artifacts), compared to the ~118MB of space taken up by the textures for 64×64 icons.

To put this into perspective, “4k” is ~16x the game’s intended resolution (1024×768).

Then imagine what impact this also has on your VRAM, even with texture compression, and how much game world texturing you’re sacrificing just to display a bunch of colored buttons on the screen.

Its simple, this isn’t some FPS where you only have a dozen icons in the whole game. MMOs have thousands upon thousands upon thousands of icons and that number only increases exponentially for the longer the game is expanded and updated.

The best you could hope for is high-resolution dialogs and text rendering. They can scale the user interface up for usability, but it’s gonna look bad.

Run the game in 1920×1080 resolution and turn on supersampling.

Curious why more people don't PvP or WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

WvW:
I played Realm Vs Realm in online games for many years, and it was always my favorite game mode, because it allowed you to do PvP without the fight always simply being determined by who is better. Things happen, the environment changes, other people get involved ,etc. This makes it very interesting ad not “stale” like SPvP.

Howver, RvR as implemented in GW2 is too grand. Other, smaller games tend to be more modest with their implemntation; but ArenaNet seems to think they have 39526526 players in this game mode so they have five(!) huge maps, most of which are empty even on large servers (the zerg just map hops giving the illusion of presence), and every objective is rediculously large and well-defended by upgrades and guards and require siege weapons to break, so conflict from roamers, small guilds and raiding parties is limited exclusively to camps most of the time.

I understand that they’re trying to make it feel like fighting in a huge war, but realistically RvR game modes survive on light conflict/skirmishes. A proper RvR battle is 10-15 people defending a fort against 10-15 other people, with a third side causing trouble — not a huge zerg of fifty people just coming in, blowing everything up for the capture points and then disappearing to another map for the next few hours.

Simplifying this game mode would go a long way to improving it. You don’t want it to be entirely skill-based like SPvP, but you do want it to matter alot more than it does in the current implementation where players are just fodder.

Another thing that bothers me about WvW is inconsistency. Your color keeps changing, your allies keep changing (server linking), your enemies keep changing, even your map keeps changing now with the Borderlands cycling. There’s nothing to adhere to because it’ll be gone in the next competition cycle. In this way, WvW is trying to be too much like SPvP (tournament-ish) and its hurting it.

SPvP:
This game mode seems like its trying to emulate Quake 3: Team Arena, while far from reaching the mark, mainly because it just comes off as lame.

The maps in particular are congested, yet empty, with no powerups or any notable objectives of any sort (this is part of why conquest is so boring) and it feels like they tried to make it “balanced” while also having it look like something out of a MOBA, which is just not a combination that works. If you want action, then you have to build an action game, not a weak Action-FPS-RPG-eSports-hybrid-thing.

SPvP offers absolutely nothing that WvW doesn’t besides fixed gear and a guaranteed oppertunity at fighting other players instead of roaming.

Kill Braham, Marjory off in story

in Living World

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Your opinion is your opinion, don’t feel like its shared by the rest to the player base. Everyone has different lives and relates to the characters differently.

For example, alot of people hate Marjory and Kasmeer, but like it or not there’s lesbian players in this game who appreciate such things. But the solution to that problem is to give us more straight and male/male relationships, not less lesbian maintext.

The issue is simple, this is an MMO, and it is ArenaNet’s job to make money off of it, and that means attracting as many markets as possible. So its always better to add and extend than to remove anything.

Failure to realize this is what lead to season one being so unproductive.

Alot of people relate to Braham because they’ve lived a life similar to his. If ArenaNet kills him off, they could lose that portion of the market, its bad for the game. Braham’s attitude in general is reflective of Norn culture, and as you can see of the thousands upon thousands of “annoying” Norn players in the game, people like it.

Would you like soaring gem prices and delayed expansions because of “annoyance” ?

I recommend taking a step back and trying to understand that the world, and especially social communities, just don’t work like you want them to.

Loss of player control.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

For over three years we had to put up with mobs that don’t move and could barely cast a single skill if they had any at all, and would generally die easily to a single, undergeared player with almost no build pressing their #1 button.

That is what is unacceptible.

What we have now is just the very beginning of what we should have, challenge. Though the mob AI still has a long way to go, it is better.

If you don’t like it ,don’t play video games.. its what they’re for.

The only real gripe I have is that in Bloodstone Fen it seems like mobs overswarm you and have too much health compared to the other newer maps. But every map seems to have gimmicks like this, such as Auric Basin having too many chargey things, and Tangled Depths being too excessive on the Chak goop.

I think this is kind of how ArenaNet intends it ?

Which map for fastest Unbound Magic?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

If you hit all the rich ore nodes and farms in Central Tyria, then the unbound magic gathering tools will usually exceed the income rate of any map, because the rate of harvesting is flat while events and orbs come by time and luck ..

There’s also no DR with harvesting.

Regeneration boon

Regeneration is pretty weak honestly. Its perma protection, perma stability, perma resistance that are the biggest problems in the current meta

This post isn’t about it being too effective ? Its about it pretty much no longer existing because its always there, its just become a baseline expectancy.

plz rebalance pets!!!

Hannelore.8153

I like the solution other pet-based games take. The master and the pet have the same HP pool and attacking one damages the other, thus, the pet lasts as long as the master but is still useful to target, and you can CC it to get rid of it for a while.

The problem with this solution is GW2 is all the AoE damage …

Yes, its allowed. This was already addressed with selling dungeon paths, which is essentially selling a spot in a party for a final boss – the same thing.

I don’t remember the official response, but it was like “okay”.

Regeneration boon

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Once upon a time, there was a boon called Regeneration. It was a fairly rare boon, although almost every class had access to it, it was typically only from one source, meaning that receiving Regeneration in battle was quite a substantial bonus.

The only exception to this rule was perhaps the Warrior’s banners constantly emitting Regeneration on certain builds, although this strategy also had its importance in the game.

Fast forward to Heart of Thorns, and every class has access to massive mounts of Regeneration, boosted by boon duration, and are able to keep it up nearly 24/7 on themselves if not allies as well. Its become so common that you might as well not even pay attention to it anymore and just assume that you always have Regeneration on you.

I feel like something really needs to be done about this. I’m not sure if changing it to stack like Stabiilty would be the proper solution, but right now I just think with all the spam its starting to lose its place in the game.

A simple solution: Use Asura gates like the Southsun Cove gate. That keeps people from just wandering into the area, but ensures they can still get there if they want.

Also give us a permanent gate to Rata Novus from Rata Sum. c:

No Required Number of Players on missions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Guild content is balanced around a typical guild of players and not that of half a party.

That is not what a guild is. Destiny’s Edge is a guild of five people, in fact the traditional meaning of guild is pretty much that used for parties in modern MMOs.

Many people play this game with small groups of close friends, effectively treating their guilds as permanent parties, because in older MMOs, that’s what guilds always were. The whole “guilds are 500 people” thing was a trend of GW2, and only a few guilds are actually that large compared to the majority.

The largest guild I’ve ever been in was about 50 active people in total, and of those, only about five people were ever online on average. And that’s pretty consistent with my experiences in older titles as well.

Forcing people to join other guilds just to do things goes against common sense.

Givers armor stat needs updating.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

They won’t be updating core content relative to HoT content. Thus far they’ve left all core stat combos completely untouched since expo release.

Plus Boon Duration is not the same stat. Concentration scales down on lower level maps while Boon Duration does not. Normalising it would make Boon Duration more powerful than Concentration with downscaling.

That said I believe both Giver’s and Celestial need some major loving.

I’m more concerned about being able to change maps to do 2-3 chest runs per meta, although I take advantage of this because technically, the players do earn it by working together to complete multiple maps at the same time.

But its gonna lead to inflation down the road, because you get alot of rares from that which means that due to temptation alot more ecto gambling is going on, and as well all know, the house wins most of the time.

I don’t know, we’ll see …

Difficulty in the Heart of Magumma

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

1) Don’t go glass, try to have at least one tanky stat. While you can definitely play these maps on Berserker, it is something that takes alot of practice, and you should not be running around on glassy gear if you aren’t prepared for a steep learning curve because that is the whole point of using glassy gear, isn’kitten

2) Many mobs evade or avoid damage, conditions do a higher DPS in these scenarios. Relying on physical damage alone will make you vulnerable during these times and may even count you out of potential rallies when you’re downed.

3) You need to use CC. You MUST use CC here. In fact, I would say that out of everything else, carrying a decent amount of both soft and hard CC with you will determine the outcome of the battles. For example my scepter/warhorn necro cripples, blinds, chills and dazes everything so she can fight ten Chak at once, while my GS warrior has a very difficult time when she gets swarmed by mob patrols.

4) Try not to play alone. Just having one other player with you at all times is enough to complete 90% of the content including all but a few of the hardest HPs and many of the events that are meant for a minimum of five players.

Dry Top map design

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

A few things:
1) Crystals stack (e.g wind crystal extends duration of lightning crystal)
2) You can glide after jumping in the air with wind

Navigating this map is incredibly easy in HoT.

The only bad thing is that you still have to go through Scarlet’s house to get to the other side of the map. It would’ve been better if they did something similar to what they did with Silverwastes to Verdant Brink, a breach of sorts.

Maybe open the mine to the other side … ?

Please no more waypoints, maps have too many waypoints as it is. I like to put forth a bit more effort than popping in and out of every town like whack-a-mole.

PVE version of edge of the mist.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Silverwaste is basically a PvE version of Edge of the Mists.

I disagree. Most of Silverwastes is incredibly dumbed down compard to actual WvW and EoTM gameplay, for example transport of supply and upgrading buildings is handled automatically for you rather than players having to do it themselves. Al they have to do is make sure that the supply bull gets there safely.

I would love to have more PvE “warzone” maps, but not EoTM. Its a beautiful map but it was designed with PvP content in mind. Instead I’d like to see more Silverwastes-like maps, one for each race, that is symbolic of their war with their respective enemies, such as the Humans and the Centaurs (think Woodland Cascades), and the Charr and the Flame Legion or Branded , depending on location.

Current maps like Kessex Hills and Hirathi Hinterlands only simulate this gameplay, so it would be very cool to see it fully fleshed out in the respective battles.

But if any more maps are made like this, they need to not dumb it down like Silverwastes, it took all of the fun out of it. Part of the appeal of WvW is that players matter, from fetching supply to building and manning siege engines, and I think we still lack PvE maps with that same kind of positive reinforcement.

Where are the Monks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

They did this for a very simple reason.

People do not want full support builds in this game. In fact, they get really really angry when they see people on full support builds. Back when Nomad’s gear was introduced, there were pages upon pages upon pages of complaints on the forum that people were running around in “useless” gear that did effectively zero DPS.

ArenaNet learned from this, and when chosing which class they would make the official healer class, they chose the Ranger because even a full support Ranger is never zero DPS because they have a pet with its own stats that are unaffected by the gear that the Ranger has equipped and only moderately by his build.

It was to keep the player base from screaming “I HATE HEALERS”, nothing more.

Dragon's Stand "Commander" gear bugs

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

This very expensive gear set for which the basic recipes are bought using the extremely rare Crystalline Ore currency has multiple problems:

  • The “Recipe: Commander’s Draconic Pauldrons” seems to be missing. The trading post lists zero available for a week and online trading sites indicate that zero of this item have ever been sold since the release of HoT, indicating that it is not selectable properly from the “Commander’s Recipe Book” or it gives the wrong recipe. This means a character cannot be properly equipped in a full set of “Heavy” exotics using this stat combination (though ascended may still work?).
  • The “Recipe: Burl Orichalcum Amulet” is missing. Crafting the amulet works, but it actually comes from “Recipe: Charged Ambrite Orichalcum Amulet”, of which there are two versions on the trading post, one cheap (Sinister) and one expensive (Commander).
  • The “Recipe: Burl Orichalcum Ring” is missing. Crafting the ring works, but it actually comes from “Recipe: Charged Ambrite Orichalcum Ring”, of which there are two versions on the trading post, one cheap (Sinister) and one expensive (Commander).
  • The “Recipe: Burl Orichalcum Earring” is missing. Crafting the earring works, but it actually comes from “Recipe: Charged Ambrite Orichalcum Earring”, of which there are two versions on the trading post, one cheap (Sinister) and one expensive (Commander).

The first bug is significant: Losing the Concentration bonus from the pauldrons means that the character has to forego an ascended amulet (using the burl exo instead) to stack their boon duration to a full 100% with 30% runes & 20% food.

Which would be okay if it wasn’t an end-of-the-end-game stat combo.

Why do people complain about "pay to win"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

If you think that $50 is barely anything, I envy your life. For alot of people in the world, that’s all they have left at the end of a paycheck, -if that-.

And it has yet to go on sell officially despite it being half a year in. By the time they finally do put HoT on sale, it’ll be time for the next expo and they’ll be giving it away for free as part of that expo just like they did with the core game with HoT.

The PvP situation is identical to what happened with guilds: Adding required content in something that is supposed to be an optional purchase.

Infinite harvesting tools: Skinning

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

With the new shared account slots, I imagine that unlimited harvesting tools purchases have largely been left in the dust. In the past, players were expected to buy tools for every character, but now they just have to buy these slots.

This would be okay if: The tools didn’t have alot of different skins that go to waste. Now ArenaNet is basically designing new harvesting tools throughout the year that no one is using anymore because they bought their single set of tools and associated account slots to share them with all of their characters.

I suggest to integrate the unlimited harvesting tools with the wardrobe system:
- Reduce unlimited harvesting tools to 900 gems and remove the graphics from them, Just make them a basic harvesting tool with unlimited uses.
- Change all of the separate tools into skins, available for purchase from the gemstore for 200 gems, that can be used to skin the unlimited harvesting tools.
- Total cost for a fully skinned tool would be 1100 gems, slightly higher than now.

This ensures that players will not only have a reason to buy more than one tool (skin) again, and thus ensure that those skins actually get purchased instead of e.g everyone running around with Watchwork Mining Pick (for income), but also it ensures that ArenaNet gets more purchases as players will buy skins indefinitely whereas there was always a hard cap on how many tools they would buy, which as I mentioned above was greatly reduced by the addition of account-wide slots.

Please no more zones like Tangled Depths

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

A few tips:
1) After first entering the map from Auric Basin, you do a little jump puzzle near the start and take a few wind gusts up to the Great Tree. This allows you to fly over to Ogre Camp and bypass the confusing depths entirely.
2) Once you have wallow mastery, you go from Ogre Camp to Ogre Lane, then to Ley Line Confluence waypoint where you can now access the lanes and wallows of all the other camps. Exploring the entire map after this takes only about an hour because it connects to everything on the map in one place.
3) You can also easily reach Dragon’s Stand from Ogre Lane via Dragon’s Passage. You do not actually have to do the meta event to enter DS.

TD was insanely awful for me at first. But once I learned the tricks, its also the most amazing map in the game to me. Beautiful, great farm, I love to just run around there solo for hours underground killing chak and opening supply caches.
