Uncap AoE max targets! Result => less zergs

It doesn’t need to be uncapped. It just needs to be changed to a percentage. For example, the zerg would be limited to hitting 4 out of your 5 ppl with an 80% percentage, whereas you could hit 8 out of their 10.

Support skills should remain capped too, but they really need all 900-1200 range. At the moment there is no alternative to stacking (600 range lol?).

MF or saving to get precursor?

I think its best to save gold and buy it. There are many horror stories of people dumping nearly 1k of gold into the Mystic forge and still not getting a Precursor, and you can find alot of threads in the forum over the past year of people wishing they had just bought it instead of RNGing themselves into bankruptcy. On the other hand, you can also get it on the first try, but… you could also get it from a level 15 boss too, so… it pretty much comes down to asking yourself “Do I feel lucky?”.

Crit % and Crit Damage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

I think that the scaling on Berserker gear is fine. Most classes DO at least have to give up quite a bit to wear it, especially the really squishy ones. I think the problem lies more in the fact that the scaling of Vitality, Toughness, and Healing Power are just aweful. Condition Damage isn’t so bad, but then you hit the condition stack limit.

The defensive/helpful stats really need to scale up on a non-linear curve, so that having just say 500 Toughness/Vitality/Healing Power would be a significant boost to defenses, but going all out and getting 1300+ wouldn’t give much of an advantage. This still satisfies the “we don’t want tanks and healers” motto of the developers.

A person in a full set of defensive armor, with a full defensive build, takes only half the damage of someone in full Berserker gear. The person in full Berserker gear, with a full offensive build, deals nearly three times as much damage. But as I have said, the synergy between the Berserker and Assassin stats is a good thing, and I think we should leave it alone, we just need to adjust the scalings on the other stats so that they become worth speccing into, and possibly synergize them.

Edit :Note I only talk about these sets because nothing else offers full Prec+Crit Dmg.

One shots in this game...

One shots in this game…

Are the CHEESEIST mechanics any developer can put in the game.

Just because we have dodge does not make it acceptable it be 1 shot dead before we have any chance to use our skills to defend ourselves.

I am really, really surprised so many players are so accepting of such lazy design…

Standards in gaming have slipped, gone downhill so much over the last decade or so…

There isn’t one 1HKO which doesn’t give you a chance to think about it, except for the first boss in Arah P3, but that’s more down to how stupid the cleansing mechanics work.

So if you get hit by a 1HKO, that’s your fault and your fault completely.

And I’m so sorry to say it (@pOster a few posts above) we can’t consider RSI or lag in a game, because otherwise the game would be balanced around the user basically doing nothing.

Also, 1HKOs have been in action-MMOs and action-based games in general for a long time. Certain death as an interesting attraction to it. It gives the player a nice adrenaline rush when they see it coming, which I quite enjoy.

A few things to comment on here. First of all, most games are balanced around the average ping for broadband, not the lowest ping. Only a few games (eg LoL and GW2 and all FPSes by tradition) are balanced around the lowest ping. Secondly, many bosses and monsters in this game lack proper tells for KO attacks, and even if they have them they can be difficult to see/hear in all of the mess of particle effects, sounds, and other assorted combat pretties.

And lastly, other MMOs that have 1HKO mechanics have proper revival skills (I don’t count the downed state joke) and alot more ability to prevent them than a single profession-indiscriminate mechanic and a single profession mechanic (Aegis). Guild Wars 2 has the least skills out of any game I have ever played by far, and most of them are just copy pasted variations of each other with no ingenuity. Its kind of hard to surivve these mechanics when it all comes down twitch reflexes rather than mental prowess.

I laugh when people say this game is about skill. Its roughly as much about skill as using a calculator is to doing math in your head. In GW2, the game gives you skill, you just have to use it. while other games, you have to learn it, and then use it.

Random node reposition in Malchor Leap

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Over time I have found that there’s three different types of node spawns. The most obvious ones, never change position except after an update, and always respawn on a fixed timer (eg one day for rich ore or Orichalcum). Another type never changes positions, even between updates, and respawns more often. The last type, which seems to comprise about 30% of all nodes, especially the trees in maps like Timberline Falls, change position every day, even without an update.

It seems to be intentional on the developers to try and mix things up. The ones that change positions will likely continue to do so until the next update.

Music has been finicky ever since the culling update. It often no longer plays during big event like Claw of Jormag, plays at the wrong time, stops playing, plays out of order, only lasts five seconds ,or lasts forever and won’t stop playing at all.

I really wish they would fix all of the sound-related issues introduced lately… along with the culling issues (like non-transparent ghosts) they break immersion.

By the way OP, completing level 70+ maps often gives Traveller’s exotics. The level 78 Berserker armor items usually come with them as map reward, which can then be salvaged with a BLK to reduce the cost of your rune set by up to 50-60%.

Both Enginner and Necro can both be fine even without condition damage. I run both in bog-standard KnightZerk and full Zerk gear and haven’t noticed a huge difference in output damage compared to classes that don’t rely on conditions.

The Engi has medium HP, tons of heals if you use the Elixer Gun and blast finishers and can reset their HP very fast, so they’re well-suited to higher armor. Support Engi is literally a blast. The Necro is the opposite, huge health, an extra HP bar and more suited to Vitality or nothing at all, like the Warrior they can go full glasscannon offense very easy and with little regret and Mark- & Well-based gameplay means you don’t even have to use minions if you aren’t into that kind of thing.

Dodging isn’t always possible. Many people play on 200+ms ping, actually I would say it is pretty average if you are a non-US player playing on the NA servers. It still gives a lower overall ping to some countries like Australia than the EU servers, but if you have anything beyond about 100-150ms (which are considered quite low by today’s standards) dodging at the right time becomes alot harder.

There are many other things that factor into this, like reflexes which can be harmed by conditions like RSI that are common amoung gamers, even progamers. Its not the best idea to just tell people that if they can’t dodge they should just get out, although that attitude is way too common in-game, especially for dungeons… there’s not alot of games like GW2 and there is far more to this game than just that one little action-based mechanic that , to be honest, is poorly implemented, being little more than an invulnerability button that you can press at the right time.

It doesn’t take skill to do it, and its not very L2P compared to other action games that implement dodging in a meaningful manner that you have to think about. But because the developers have taken to balancing the entire combat metagame around their poorly implemented dodge mechanic, players are forced to live with it. So you’re going to be seeing one-hit KOs forever, and probably more of them.

What determines how good a player is?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

If you asked what determines a skilled player in LA map chat, the usual answer would probably be “zerk armor and how good you dodge”. In reality, having true skill in this game is difficult because the game mechanics are overwhelmingly simple. There’s no real requirement to learn formulas, how to counter X with Y, what to do in every possible situation, what to cast and in what order ,and things like that. Instead you have just a few skills, locked weapon skills, some terrible to nice traits and an invulnerability button every few seconds, and that’s about it. One of the most complex mechanics in this game is combo fields and not so much.

The fact that you don’t even have to manage mana in this game, only cooldowns (while in other games you have to manage both mana and cooldowns), already sets the skill bar at a far lower level than usual.

Skill does factor heavily into PvP and WvW roaming fights especially, because that is the nature of PvP and even on simple mechanics it is still possible to heavily outskill your opponent by carefully selecting your gear, treats and utiltiy skills and making the right decisions at the right time. But for the most part, this is not what the game is designed for or balanced around in PvE or WvW zergs.

So the answer is, to know skill..you have to be with people in small skirmishes. Because in other areas of the game, facerolling all your buttons usually does the job.

A Warrior has limited evasion even with Signet of Stamina and/or Warhorn for Vigor. Rangers have +50% endurance (soon to be nerfed to 25%, I think?) regeneration just from 5 points into a single tree, and have more Vigor buffs than you can imagine, including Vigor-on-heal. You have to see the bigger picture, its not about how much you regen, its about how much you can avoid damage and control the battle while regenerating. The class is excellent at making full recoveries whereas a Warrior without Healing Surge will be hard pressed to ever restore their full health. That’s why there’s such a big difference between Guardian and Warrior despite Guards having almost half the HP of a Warrior – the recovery power. Ranger’s evasion ends up kind of similar.

Warrior Trait: Furious

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

It seems more like a bug fix, not a nerf. Why on earth should crits grant triple adrenaline? Even +1 on every crit is nearly double regen considering how often crits occur on full Precision builds and similar with Warrior’s fury uptime…

Traits aren’t meant to be really powerful, only moderate bonuses.

Edit: According to the Wiki history (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Furious&oldid=651979) it was always behaving this way. The person working on it simply fixed the tooltip error as I suspected, thus it is a bug fix.

With the average 1k of healing power it heals around 10k of health. The scaling on it is 12% which in this example would be +120 HP/sec. But keep in mind that that healing power also affects the signet and any other forms of regen that you have. The regeneration signet doubles in healing from ~40 to ~80 HP/sec.

Edit: Whoops, its 60-90, my bad.

Rangers are excellent bunkers, if you want to go the condi/heal route. Especially if you stack Dwayna runes on the Troll Urguent getting three regens at once (Heal skill, Regeneration and Signet). But be warned that condition damage options aren’t that great for Ranger, Traps help but compared to say, the 25 stacks of bleed Warriors can lay on, its just not much in the long run.

Useless Armor

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The rest of the non 1-shot attacks generally aren’t threatening to zerkers though.

Not when you are being mobbed. Or especially when your class starts with only 10k of HP. :P

Its true that damage scaling in this game is out of whack, and most things aren’t even a threat even to Berserker or Assassin players, but the issue is in these scenarios the chances of getting mobbed are very high, and thats when armor pays off. The only exception I’d say is Hundred Blades which melts trash away, but due to all of the CC in the tower you’re going to have to use Stability for that.

Edit: Also, many Zerk Warriors don’t seem to understand that their base stats are twice that of Ele and 1.5x that of Guard (though Guard can reset HP alot easier), and when you take Healing Signet and Adrenal Health into account, well…

I run a full Zerk Necro due to the poor state of condition damage, and having 18K HP and an extra health bar gives me roughly 2.5x the survivability of an Ele, even without all of their CC its still pretty rediculous. Not all professions are equal in regards to how useful armor is to them, despite “skilled players” saying otherwise.

They did buff karma from dynamic events, but only the low and medium level ones. The high level events stayed the same. However, even with just a passive account bonus of 5% from achivements, you are already getting 19 extra karma per event. In huge meta chains that adds up very rapidly. Now think about it with the infusion…

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

To me it seems like there is only Living Story to look forward to for now. They’ve repeatedly denied expansions, and the Realm Vs Realm (RvR aka WvW) implementation in this game is one of the worst, least-rewarding, and most zergy I have ever seen. I think that in theory, WvW is supposed to be the end-game, as it uses your PvE looks and gear that you worked so hard for, in reality any RvR MMO not based upon DAoC tends to fail because they get too insane with ideas (for example siege spam) instead of using what works, so ultimately this game just has no end-game.. of any kind.

They could still fix it, but given that its taking them what 1 1/2 years just to finally fix the queuing issue by adding a new map… I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I still have the MF infusion on my Ranger since it was my de-facto grind character, but since I’ve been maining a Warrior since the last three months or so, she’s been running karmic simply because karma has alot of uses and at the end of the day also converts to gold better than MF or Gilded due to RNG boxes. Why is it that people who have been playing the game for a long time expect new content to be added just for them, even though new players join every day who will take a few months to be in a full set of T3 cultural?

I understand you get bored, but the simple truth is content in MMOs are built for new players, not old ones, otherwise they can’t retain anyone to begin with, and lose long-term market power. Thats why most of the newest armor skins so far are in the gem store, its the easiest way to get a good look when you’ve just come to the game, all you have to do is open your wallet. And it benefits Anet at the same time, too…

Good vs. Evil

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Evil is subjective. Many characters in the game, and even parts of the Orders, have things about them that are “questionable”. These are not all “Heroes” and “Good people”, they’re fighting for the entire world because if they don’t, they die.

It doesn’t matter if you’re the most evil, powerful Necromancer. Zhaitan is more powerful and he will consume and destroy you and everything else. This is the whole reason the Sons of Svanir are a fail, if you pay attention to their storylines, Jormag turns on them 90% of them time, the Icebrood are Norn and other creatures who have been completely corrupted into nothing more than husks.

This was never a game of Good Vs Evil even since the beginning. The whole premise of the game was the dragons being a force of nature, they don’t have “sides”. And if you consider that you are literally killing yourselves in WvW (its a multiverse, with everyone involved being the same people from different worlds), what then?

Tower Favors Defensive Builds, Thanks!

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

There is alot of mixed views here, but I will say this: Berserker gear is not what it seems to be. You an wear full Berserker gear, and still do barely any damage. This is because its mostly about your build. Gear just compensates for a build that has to put alot of points into defensive traits to get special grandmasters, fall damage (e.g for Grenth and the like), profession recharge, boon duration and things like that.

Furthermore, its possible to have a much higher damage on defensive gear than you may imagine. Because an offensive build on defensive gear will do roughly the same amount of damage as a defensive build on Berserker gear. Its all about what your profession can afford, what traits and skills you need to carry, and what you are facing (for example, Tequatl can’t be critically hit, reducing all Zerk gear to PTV, except without the T & V).

The exponential effects from damage on Zerk gear only occur with a well thought-out, matching build, especially one stacking % bonuses to base damage with the correct usage of runes and sigils to go with it. Similarly, Zerk enthusiasts vastly underestimate what a defensive combination (like Knight/Valk) can do with a good build.

So... this is going away as well?

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

You have to be kidding. Plenty of things in this game don’t scale down enough and while the game is mostly for soloers most of the solo content is utterly boring compared to the content that is available for parties and groups (dungeons, FotM, the harder world bosses, etc.). This is partly why smaller servers are suffering.

We do not need more party content. We do not need more soloable content. We need all content to scale depending on the number of players involved, a feature that GW2 was heavily advertised for but only partially implements. For example, some living story instances were single player (e.g Dragon Bash), while some living world events were dungeons that required parties (Aetherblades Retreat), and its examples like this of the lack of scaling that is irritating to people who want to play their own way. Especially since not all classes are created equal and each one solos or parties better than others.

This living world event was actually finally a step in the right direction. The instances support multiple people (scaling up to dungeon-sized parties), but it can all also be soloed if you have the time and are willing to make the effort.

Seeing names is too easy, Bug or not?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

It’s a client option to see enemy names. You probably just had it off before. Also, server side culling was removed, which was hiding the names in certain circumstances before.

This game is too zergy to not have name templates. I could understand if the new map was already out and it was capped to about 20-30 players per side, but with 100+ people on each side you have no other way of differentiating them.

Edit: It is a bug, however, that since the culling update enemy names appear even with the relevant option turned off. But this only seems to occur in WvW. That update introduced about a few dozen different graphical bugs that have not been fixed. nor have the developers shown any intention of fixing them.

The only one I know they fixed for sure was NPC names always being shown in PvE.

Karma Boosts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

Well first of all, Lyssa and Dwayna are currently bugged across many US servers. Additionally, its easier to let the temples fall and then redo them than to defend them, and is much more lucrative for the players involved (Plus, it allows newer players to get their first piece of the end-game cake).

I really don’t understand the problem here, I open up temples all the time, and participate in about 20+ world boss battles daily. The only one that is regularly closed is Balthazar as it is -easiser- to accomplish on non-zergy servers due to the tendancy for event scaling to destroy the NPCs with Veteran Risen Subjugators.

If there’s no commanders on the map, of course you are going to have a hard time, because GW2 is mostly a solo game and unless people have a pin to follow, they generally won’t group.

Have gem-prices increased artificially?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Its because too many treat this game as F2P after their initial purchase, and spend their entire playtime farming gold and buying gems with gold instead of real money. Actually, this is what makes GW2 good, being able to go premium with just in-game currency. But on the other hand, it will result in inflation over time unless more people step up to the plate and buy more gems with real money in order to balance supply and demand.

But inflation occurs in any econemy. Prices on both the gem conversion and the TP are ten times what they were when I started playing, and I don’t see it levelilng out any time soon, if ever, because more ways to get gold are added, despite some getting nerfed the overall amount of gold in the game is ever-increasing.

Status of new races/classes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nothing official that I know of. But the racial issues you brought up are non-issues, plenty of games do this and they solve it by adding a race change functionality to the “make over” kits. Since you can buy premium items with gold in this game (converting gold to gems), its even more durable for the process than most.

As for new classes, the current ones are incomplete and poorly balanced, why would they add more?

Karma Boosts

With the current state of the game there is no way to make it without guesting. Even if its not for karma, you’ll still need to do it often for things like dragonite ore.

The maps are empty....

Even on heavily populated servers, many maps are simply completely barren. This is because the game lacks an underflow system that merges loosely populated maps between servers, which would solve the problem across the board. But its not likely that Anet would ever do this because people would be upset about not being able to contribute guild influence while in underflow even if the game would be alot more fun, and seem alot less barren overall.

No matter how big your server is, the game world is just too large to fill out with people.

Karma Boosts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The karma from events was increased, you get account bound karma bonus from achivements which can be combined with a karmic infusion. Then you have all the usual boosts (karma boosters, guild banners, ice cream/kralkachocolate). It may not seem like much, but pulling in 600+ karma from every event, really adds up during meta chains like Arah.

While I was initially outright appalled at the reduction of karma income by 70-90%, depending on how you obtianed it, honestly its not hard to make 100k per week (or more), still. You just can’t do it from consumeable items, dailies or monthlies anymore, and have to go out and actively use your boosters and infusion.

Plus what the developers did, with the account-bound wallet, and allowing you an extra week to use your consumeables on boosters was really amazing. Most developers of MMOs would not have even bothered and would have just said “tough luck”, which even Anet does sometimes, but in this case they handled it fairly empathatically.

Claw of Jormag event lag back again

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

It’s likely because of the Champion train that happens in this map with 50-100 players. It’s not about the number of players on the map, its about how many things are occuring at once that causes lag. On a map like Sparkfly Fen, Tequatl is all that is happening.

Balthazar Temple - Pact morale

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Hannelore.8153

This is the hardest temple event not only because its the only one on that map, but because it gives access to Obsidian Shards at the end which are used to craft ascended and legendary items. Its not a bug.

Try not to stand near the NPCs, once they die the morale is gone forever, even if you rezz them. The mobs will mostly come for players not the NPCs so staying away from them except when you are keeping them healed is how you win it.
