Has Anet Remembered the Casuals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

From my time on these forums I’ve determined that casual means the following:
- Completely flat map with uninteresting terrain that is easy to cross
- Speed across entire map in an instant, preferably by teleporting (somehow, having this ability is necessary alongside also having a flat map)
- Spend a few seconds only killing a mob by only pressing one button
- Overcome all challenges even in extremely inefficient gear and builds, without having to think about complexity
- Do not require other players for any event, not even group events
- No aggro from mobs, no skills from mobs, no danger from mobs
- No CC, no conditions, nothing that requires any kind of counter-play or quick thinking
- Everything as quick as possible, everyone is busy busy these days, can’t stop to actually play a game
- Always rewards, even for doing nothing at all
- Define fun as the embodiment of getting things for nothing, instead of immersion, challenge or time investment

More that I forget, but we all know what they are by now.

DPS meter really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

I’m okay with DPS meters.

I’m also okay with watching the DPS or your allies as well.

I’m okay if you want to run a group that blocks other people due to DPS. Its your guild or your party or your squad or whatever, so that’s fine.

I can just go play in some other group.

But if you think its okay to invade people’s privacy, look at their gear, intensely question them on their gear and build, or anything like that, you need to just stop playing. its a game, and these are people, not your playthings.

If you don’t want to carry people through a video game, then don’t act like a child and make other people carry you through life.

Learn respect.

The Mounts are Useless

Hannelore.8153

All I ever hear about is waypoints.

Did you know for the first three years of the game all I ever heard about was how much waypoints cheapen all content? In fact, in the original dungeons, you didn’t have to wait for your party to die to revive so people simply waypoint-zerged the encounters-this is still done with major events and world bosses, removing any sense of danger from them. This is why the whole motto of GW2 open world content became “if you’re full dead then WP”, because its cheap.

After many years ArenaNet finally started listening to the players and destroying some waypoints, and having less in new maps. But just like all changes-then the other side just starts complaining endlessly that they have to spend 1-2 mins crossing a tiny map even with the ability to FLY.

Its just getting rediculous now, let it go. Yes, we know that you want to do your content a few mins faster so you can spend more time arguing on the forums that the game isn’t easy or quick enough for your liking yet.

I really, really recommend that people try playing the game. I mean, really play the game, as if you were a new player, on a new character, and everything was new to you. You will walk away with it with a completely different perspective. Playing it for too long as end-game warps how you view everything, it changes how you approach everything, it makes it so that you can’t always see the better.

We have completely sacrificed immersion in this game for cheap returns.

Yes, they redid it. For the most part, its better, he especially gives alot more credit to the player during the personal story than he did before.

However, i don’t like they added his monologue over the Claw Island cutscene. That was originally a very emotional cutscene with just the sombre background music and now it plays trumpets while Trehearne talks about victory. :/

New tanks ??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

There are other tanks, they’re just not viable in raids. It works the same way with healers, Ele and Rev are great healers but only Druid is viable.

This is because the overall viability of a class in a role will be determined by how much they can play other roles at the same time, which is a product of the soft trinity compared to a hard trinity. E.g Druid is the favored healer because they heavily buff the party’s damage, so the combo role gives it to them.

There’s no way around it, meta content will always be like this.

Elite specs during story progression

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

If you purchased HoT, its already available to you, all you need is HPs to spend. However it takes 250 HPs so you’ll have to do 25 hero challenges from the HoT zones or complete most of Central Tyria in order to fill the entire spec.

If you want to stay spoiler-free then you’ll have to go through everything up to HoT on core specs , and that also means no gliding unfortunately. Because while there are no story missions required, alot of the story is in open world and you’ll be spoiled on one really, really, really big reveal from LS2.

Just a note, the optimal race for the story is either Human or Sylvari. They meet the most characters who appear in later storylines, and have the most plot threads. You can play as other races but you might feel like a fish out of water.

For the same reason, make sure you play through the story dungeons.

Add trailer footage to the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

One of GW2’s biggest flaws is that alot of the content exists outside the game, and I’d like to see an overall reduction of how much content is created that never makes it into the game for seemingly no good reason.

One area of particular interest is the game trailers—you make one for each episode, as you have been doing since season one. However, I think the majority of the game population does not see them, because they are only briefly in the launcher (where people with autoplay won’t see it), or the forums, etc.

I suggest to retroactively add the trailers for each episode into the game itself at the end of each prior episode, similar to how you did with the Heart of Thorns announcement at the end of season 2. This way, each time a new player finishes an episode, they are greeted with a heart-pounding preview of the next episode, both improving immersion and making them more likely to buy it.

And you could do this going forward with future episodes too.

SPOILERS
I bring this up because the end of One Path Ends was extremely lackluster for me. We got a small cinematic of Balthazar and that was it, and i found myself wanting more. Now that the expansion announcement is over, if you were to retroactively put the PoF trailer to the end of One Path Ends, I feel like it would greatly increase the quality of life of that episode for those who play it in the future.

“I got this super exclusive item by spending my arm for it, please don’t add anything else to the game that would undermine that investment.”

We’ve already been proven in the past that this mentality is not good, because its the newer players who matter and not the dusty old veterans. And while I initially fought against it, I’ve come to understand why its important- things like this which create a “sinkhole” in the game just for the sake of luxery.

New players need a checkbox, not some rare item they have to spend 3000g.

Remember when the game was “zerker or gtfo”. Remember when condi was laughably bad. It’s very poetic.

Not really. It’s just as bad.

No, you can play any build now, you could only play one build before.

For kitten’s sake, you people just got a patch that was a major, ground-breaking nerf to condi builds and you still want there to be less. All I ever see these days is “you didn’t do enough, do more”, but “more” always leads down a slippery slope that usually ends up at “remove it” because there’s no satisfaction.

For the record I played beta with the default Marauder gear, which isn’t even full DPS, on a GS Ranger and all the mobs died in 1-2 seconds to Maul.

Healing effectiveness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Hello,
Since we have food, sigils, runes that give us healing effectiveness now.

Could we maybe get a percentage under healing power stat on the hero panel to show how much total healing effectiveness we are giving out along with healing power?

and this healing effectiveness does this effect the skill tool tips for healing skills or is the extra heal applied after that?

The trouble with this is that healing power isn’t built as a fixed percentage (although it arguably should be, along with condition damage). It affects different skills in different ways. Some skills have relatively high base healing but poor scaling with healing power, while other skills have the opposite. So, displaying a % for healing power just wouldn’t be useful in determining anything with the current system.

Healing effectiveness is a separate stat from healing power, its like ferocity, expertise and concentration and boost the HPS of healing by a percentage.

In other words, its basically the real healing stat.

Mobs in PoF beta undertuned for demo?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

“HoT is hard enough, no need to make the rest of the game like that”

I’m tired of this outlook, players who have a hard time with content expect it to be made easy for them just so they can continue playing the game and accomplish everything you can do in it, maps, events, masteries, full rewards etc.

By that notion, you have 25 maps from Central Tyria to go auto-hit mobs in. Having 2/3rds of the game tailored to you isn’t good enough?

First of all, HoT is not hard, HoT has ~mechanics~. All of those things you have having trouble with like, avoiding AoE circles, needing to defend against and CC enemies, do jumping puzzles and overall use strategy and tactics?

That’s called ~gameplay~, and its what separates a high-budget MMO from from one of those games you pick off Steam for $1-10 or even F2P.

This game has always been very casual, let the players who want something else out of it have something else out of it for a change without having to have everything nerfed, dumbed down, simplified, face-rolling easy.

Sorry, but this is one of, if not the easiest MMOs in existence. I know its not fair to compare but its like a bunch of kids who are having huge bowls of ice cream in front of them getting upset that someone else wants some cake too.

And its not about raid builds, I play mostly non-meta characters, lots of support builds, even a few tank builds, and PvE is just “kitten , kitten , kitten ”. Slowly over the years I’ve lost the ability to find myself immersed in any combat in the game even on badly played characters because its just “hit one until the bar reaches zero”. The only content left that requires more is fractals and raids.

I find it ironic that I am one of the most casual players in GW2—lots of alts, not a single meta build, all characters in mostly exotics, heavy support focus, yet people still somehow find the time to argue with me that the game is difficult because the don’t want to crawl out of bed and drink some coffee to play it.

I could understand if you’re disabled (as I am), but otherwise.. meh.

Heart quests in the story of PoF

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Would it be more accepted if they just removed the heart icon from the mission UI? A lot of what they’re having us do is similar to what we have done in previous missions.

So you complaint about a symbol on the map o.O
Because the story event will be exactly the same with or without the heart symbol… you know…

There is only a minor difference between previous mission-quests and now mission-hearts: The heart actually shows up as a heart-symbol, that´s all.
Call it quest, heart, task to fullfill or whatsoever at the end it remains as something you have to do for progressing in your personal story.

No it’s not just the heart symbol. Yes, we’ve already seen a similar design in the personal story (e.g. multiple waves of undead – which directly reappeared in the Bitterfrost Frontier story).

Just because it’s been like that in the past doesn’t mean it has to be like that in the future. A game can be improved over the years. They had 2 years with a team that was directly assigned to the expansion. They could learn from their past and think of ways to make the story interesting. Instead, they used the same “extinguish 12 fires, revive 8 people” heart quests we could already experience in starter area maps.

If the actions of the heart quest (extinguish fire, rescue people) are important for the story, you could forget about the number of fires and people (they’re nameless characters). It’s not important for the story if you revive 7 or 8 people so forget about it.
Represent the villagers symbolically and concentrate on interesting gameplay, quality over quantity:

Instead of helping 8 separated NPC’s you could focus on a group of people that were trapped inside of a burning building due to the attack.

  • Take the fire extinguisher to secure the way to the entrance.
  • The way is still blocked by wood trusses that collapsed during the fire.
  • There are several interactive objects you could use and combine at different points to carry them away.
-> maybe there’s just one solution, maybe there are several possible solutions.
  • Maybe your newly added mount could also help in a certain way.

If the symbolic way doesn’t seem to be immersive because you didn’t save all of them, you might as well provide some uninjured NPC’s that rescued the remaining people in the meantime.

You don’t have to extinguish 12 fires and save 8 people to tell the story. Think of a creative way how to do it instead of the number how often you press “F” or “1”.

You don’t understand how game design works. You can’t just keep churning out unique and exciting content all of the time, it has to be repetitive and boring, otherwise it doesn’t last long enough to make it to the next milestone.

Your suggestion would require a far more complex use of dev resources.

This is the sad reality of games that need to be constantly updated, and why one-shot games only last something like 20-30 playing hours.

Hearts were added back in to pad content so that more intolerable forms of padding (heavy mastery or token grinding, etc) could be toned down which is largely responsible for why LS3 was better than HoT.

But either way, they have to add filler, that’s all.

If anything the story was extremely lacking in filler up until now. Even with having heart-like mechanics in most missions in the past, it tends to be over very quickly and not offer much replay value beyond achievement grinding.

In my opinion many story missions could stand to be much deeper by slowing down, giving the player time to immerse and kitten around a bit.

If you’re time-restricted, then story-based games probably aren’t for you…

If they keep making mobs easier and easier might as well just ride around on the mount all of the time and never dismount because combat outside of encounters will be completely pointless and unenjoyable auto-attack fests. :/

I already found them lackluster in some LS3 maps, particularly Siren’s Landing which didn’t seem to have any more difficulty than Cursed Shore.

It was changed to bring condi in line with power.

Before you say “just make power food better”. That’s power creep. We don’t need power creep.

They didn’t bring the -Condition Duration food/buffs in line.

Either nerf those foods, or buff the other foods to reduce Direct Damage by 20%.

You really do not want to open that door…

Power is way easier to protect against than condi damage in a competative enviroment.

It really is too high though-ArenaNet has made it clear that bonuses that high should only appear on traits, runes and sigils (gear) and not on food.

I’d reduce them to -10-12% maximum or so.

You can still do max builds for a single condition:
Poison: Rune of Thorns
Bleeding: Rune of the Krait
Burning: Rune of Balthazar

Use these together with the foods that boost a single condition (like +15% burning) and your traitlines (or sigil if you have no traits for it) and DPS is more or less comparable, so only classes that stack alot of different conditions like Necro are affected, my Guardian, Warrior and Thief are the same as before.

I would say Necro and Revenant got hit the hardest.

The story has always been this way, except now it has an icon. Move on.

With PoF coming these forums are turning into “I don’t like the game, please change it completely” more than the occasional good or bad critisizm.

At least with HoT it was largely deserved; but this is an infinitely better product compared to that rushed, half-complete piece of garbo and people still aren’t happy with a single thing that it seems to be offering so far.

Said before, will say again:

Dragon Stand needs to come off the timer. I realize it’s supposed to be a big epic moment coming out of Tangled Depths and the Gerent meta, but it makes organizing a map into a lengthy, frustrating chore.

Don’t start the map timer until the camps are populated, and the rest will take care of itself. Locking the map to only those characters that completed it will keep it from being another AB-multiloot.

This is really the best solution I think.

I like the changes of elite specs. What i don’t like is imbalance in doing so.

Chornomancers being tanks is ok.
Chronomancers being only tanks that matter is not.

What elite specs should do is provide alternative roles and playstyles to core classes (staying true to their theme), but not set iron clad meta of “this spec is best for the role out of all professions, and all elites specs!”

^
This.

I would give my left nut for a viable guardian, warrior or revenenat tank build. I wanna be the heavy guy in heavy armor taking the heavy hits.

I do think chronotank is cool too though, but I want more tanks!

I’d also like to see more tank mechanics for raids. Threat mechanics and stuff like that, not just simple toughness-based aggro or first-hit aggro, that’s too easy.

There is alot more Taunt in PoF. At the very least, Warriors and Rangers will kind of be able to spam it due to the new traits that synergize with the mechanic.

Um, the whole reason Ranger was made the healer is because of the pet, because ArenaNet knew they could run full support without losing their damage which would prevent alot of outcry against having a real healer in the game.

That said, armor doesn’t seem to matter much anymore. Its a few extra armor points, nothing more—and I’d like to see that changed. The weight of armor that you wear should have at least some meaning beyond how it looks, because currently there’s no tradeoffs to running a light or medium class.

The only reason some of them die faster is because of low HP, not armor.

About 20GB will be added to the game from current estimates. That will be distributed over the one and a half months, is that more helpful ?

But yes, we really need: 1) a percentage meter, 2) a size meter.

Sure, there’s a percentage meter already but it goes by the number of files so you can spend most of your patch time at like 50% and then have the rest of the bar quickly fill up because all the remaining files are small.

Pro tip btw, don’t patch the game at home, do it in public.

Please don’t abandon this expansion just yet !

You only did a single touch-up run of HoT and to be honest that just isn’t enough. yes it got it into playable shape but it did not fix most of the core problems.

Some things that still need addressed:
- The story is still a buggy mess, the final instance especially. Almost no bug fixes have been made to the story despite it being very unstable overall.

- The difficulty from some of the map components is still a bit high. Mobs are mostly okay but some HPs and adventures need to be toned down to account for the fact that these maps won’t be as popular as they were at release. Its time to start being more realistic about how many players will be there.

- There is still no lore offered to why things are the way that they are. We aren’t asking for much, just a few NPCs here and there to handle things like the elite specialistaion, and some lore adjustments to the tooltips.

- Some masteries from HoT and LS3 are useless and just a waste of points. They serve their purpose for a few days and then disappear—now that the big HoT grind is over these should be collapsed into other masteries or “minor masteries”.

- And most IMPORTANTLY, timed map metas need to be removed and become player-driven like the Silverwastes. This system only worked in Dry Top because the whole map doesn’t explode like it does in HoT. The HoT metas are far too important to be on a timer because you spend two hours to risk a failure and this will not work with the populations that will be inhabiting these maps in the future. All the people currently farming this content giving the illusion that it is still well-frequented will move on to PoF and LS4 eventually.

Yes, I know there are workarounds for most of these problems, mostly involving LFG. But it won’t last, its just a temporary stopgap measure. If the HoT maps were changed to be player-driven, then Dragon’s Stand (one of the most frustrating maps in the game in regards to participation) would become the next Silverwastes and be played by high-level players for many years to come. The HoT maps themselves are amazing and they just need to have a better longevity.

Please don’t let HoT become another gameplay & lore black hole like LS1.

Issues with PoF demo

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

If you die alot its usually a result of bad class/gear/build combination. Trust me, it makes a world of difference when you learn how to do it properly. All content from HoT and onwards (and to some extent, Orr), requires you to know how to play your class and how to set it up in a way that is workable.

Too many people are still used to the way that characters were built in core where you could just equip Berserker (for DPS) or Clerics (for tank) and then just stroll through all the content and it doesn’t work that way anymore.

A proper, modern build will be able to take down mobs in seconds while still having plenty of survival for you to not get one-hit KO’ed.

And uhh, physical Warrior is really bad right now, wait for Spellbreaker or switch to Berserker subclass and use Carrion/Rabid gear mix. Sorry there’s not much you can do about it, they’ve probably ended up the worst class in the game for physical damage although that looks to be changing with the expo (maybe…).

I’m not a meta player myself but some things just don’t work.

As for the mount, to do precise movement and turning you need to learn how to make proper use of your walk button at a moment’s notice.

DPS meter really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Yes, people are using DPS meters now.. no ArenaNet has not done anything about it. I’ve also heard there are ways to see other peoples gear and builds, presumably by examining the game’s memory—this is illegal, but such programs are difficult for ArenaNet to detect without something like Blizzard’s Warden.

Unfortunately, the only reason this is possible is because they offload so much to the client in order to reduce the load on the servers, but this always comes at as security risk- almost every MMO ends up doing it due to the high server load that comes with this type of game and its always the same result.

There’s also some DPS meters that monitor the screen and thus are completely legal, and ANet wouldn’t do anything about those anyway.

Demo theme music

I hope the theme music will be changed upon release—when we first started up Heart of Thorns we knew we were going into battle with one of the most epic overtures I’ve ever heard, it would be nice if you could try to build upon that.

To me it just wouldn’t feel like GW2 with a theme like you have in the demo. It seems more like what you’d hear while exploring a map.

Mounts Suggestions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

My requests:

Please allow us to harvest on mounts, otherwise they are virtually useless for travel. No one is going to dismount every five seconds for a resource, by that point you might as well just walk on a permaswift build and fight mobs.

Please allow us to strafe on mounts.

Please allow us to use mount emotes. We know they have them, because they play some while idle ,etc.— just make them controllable.

Please allow better dying, its really bad—one (poor) dye channel on Raptor, and even the most expensive dyes in the game (like Electro dyes) barely affect it, it can’t seem to get very dark or very light no matter what you do.

Please change skill #1 to skill #2 and add a skill #1 that does basic attacks that don’t dismount, I understand you don’t want us to use them in combat but if we are dismounting every five seconds for a dozen diferent reasons no one will ever pull them out to begin with, it will get very fatiguing.

At least allow “auto re-summon mount” feature that works like travel toys. That’s the whole reason these features were added to travel toys…….

As it stands mount will only be used for showing off and jump puzzles. :c

Mounts, water and old maps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Don’t worry about mount speed, they won’t be too fast. The game has a hard cap on 133% movement speed when out of combat, no matter what buffs you have-that’s even including the mushrooms in HoM.

Anything past a 33% buff only affects you when you’re in combat (such as Superspeed) because being in combat slows you down significantly below the cap.

This means that Swiftness=mushrooms=mounts for travel, always.

That said, I still feel like even perma swift makes the old maps feel too small. I can run across an entire map in just a few minutes with a basic swift build, if anything i would like to see movement speed reduced in the entire game.

Its unneccessary for people to blaze everywhere with waypoints…

So, as far as story goes..... (Spoilers)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The dragons act as sponges for magic, similar to how the bloodstones work. They absorb the magic from the world, which keeps it from running out of control. WE don’t exactly know if its killing them or the bloodstone being destroyed that is causing the current crisis in Tyria, but there’s unbound magic everywhere and ley lines are literally bursting out of the terrain.

Lore suggests that the bloodstone caused it, but the dragons being dead is what is preventing it from being reabsorbed. As soon as Jormag and Primordus became active their first actions was to try and absorb the unbound magic, whereas it would’ve been easily absorbed by Zhaitan and Mordremoth before.

Right now, there’s no place for it to go but to polute Tyria’s atmosphere. There’s no canon explanation for exactly what will happen, but we do know that too much magic is toxic, and drives people crazy (White Mantle). It basically seems to behave like radiation in intense quantities, story lore refers to peoples insides being “all twisted up” and people exposed to high intensity magic throughout the personal story generally do not end doing up well in the long-term.

Ley line energy is specifically stated to be toxic when you pick it up in Orr.

There’s also hints that the planet itself could explode, as one book in the Durmand Priory says that everyone will fall off the world without the dragons.

Also, killing dragons releases their power into other dragons, this is how Mordremoth was able to create undead plant wolves, etc. instead of just having the Sylvari as minions, because he absorbed Zhaitan’s powers. This means that killing all of the dragons will make the final one all but invulnerable, and likely powerful enough to destroy all of Tyria in the blink of an eye.

Keep in mind much of this is speculation backed by lore, not hard facts.

Veteran character vs New one

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hannelore.8153

You don’t need map exploration, all it wards you is a title, a star next to your name, and a gift for crafting legendary weapons.. nothing of power.

You will however, need to explore the expansion zones to gather hero points to skill your elite specialisation. Don’t bother with the HPs in Central Tyria, you need more than 250 of them an that would take too long- the HPs in the HoT maps give 10 a piece although they are much more difficult usually.

If you’re trying to power level before the expos, don’t bother. You can only fully collect what you need to play them by playing the expo itself.

There are no prerequisites to start the stories, but to experience the full story you will need to buy LS2 (before HoT) and LS3 (post-HoT) off of the gemstore. These will also bring in new maps, which are alot of fun to play and where the majority of the level 80 content and rewards is these days, you even get stat-selectable ascended trinkets and backpieces from playing these maps with four-stat sets.

Also, by skipping Living Story you may find that you don’t have enough mastery points (MPs) since there’s alot fewer achivements to do for them.

You can go Core->HoT, or Core->PoF it doesn’t matter, but you need to be lv80. Keep in mind that skipping HoT for PoF will let you miss out on certain masteries like gliding that also apply in Central Tyria and future expansion zones.

If you level a newbie for the expos make sure you start out in tanky exotic gear, something like Solider or Dire, don’t try in glass or rare gear. Basically, you need to be well built because the enemies are more powerful.

Hopefully this helps..

Please fix HoT lore?

Hannelore.8153

I’m really happy that more attention is being paid to lore in the new expansion..but you forgot to go back and fix the trainwreck that is the lore in HoT.

[SPOILERS]
No explanations were ever given for so many things that appeared, especially the elite specialisations, or how Revenants existed before Rytlock (you could simply say that he was just the first HERALD and be done with it).

The best way to handle this would be to add nine NPCs somewhere in HoT (at the center of Tarir would be the best place, plenty of space and lore reasoning), give them a bit of dialog about each subclass, and a tome that unlocks it.

Plus maybe updating some skills and traits to reference Heart of Maguuma.

How ANet is handling population migration?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

The Hot Zones have alot of replayability because you need alot of achievements, currencies, collection items from there for legendary weapons, which will continue to be hot content and other long term goals, like legendary armor or trinkets.

PoF will include all of this too; new stats, new ascended equipment (with LS4), new raids which can be used for legendary armor, new legendaries, etc. So your statement is really only true for people ~currently~ working on the HoT content.

How ANet is handling population migration?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

With PoF does this means people will forget Core and HoT contents?
Each expansion will replace old content activities?

Yep! Exactly! Just as with HoT, since which the non-HoT zones and activities have been abandoned.

Ok, all joking aside, I am slightly worried what will happen as more and more landmass appears. We got 6 mini-maps (mostly abandoned now, granted, as they were never designed to be “real” maps) with LS3, stands to reason we’ll get another set with LS4. On top of that the expansion zones.

This is fine right now. Plenty population between all servers. But make it 2019, expansion 3, population further declined, and many many zones will start to feel rather … lonely.

Mostly, the only reason Central Tyria still has people in the maps is because of F2P and because of new players coming to the game. The number of people you’ll run into in these maps is still far lower than after megaserver update hit—unless it is a daily like event completer or a world boss or something.

HoT maps won’t benefit from F2P, or newer players, as they can skip to PoF. The zones already are abandoned compared to launch. I haven’t seen a tier 4 Verdant Brink meta complete since the first few months of HoT.

Its like saying Dry Top isn’t abandoned because it sometimes has a single map instance that manages to reach tier 4 (the maximum is tier 6). Sure, its active, but its not active in the capacity that ArenaNet originally intended.

For one thing its too big, I’ve heard estimates for 50GB installed which means its almost as big as Core+HoT, about 20GB or so. To include the Core game, HoT, and PoF all in one bundle along with the installer and supplementary materials would need at least six dual-layer DVDs which would get very expensive.

New Expansion, Same Issue: Hairstyles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

I don’t get why this is a thing. Typically men and women have little cross over with hair styles across time and differing cultures. And somehow this is sexist? Also, almost all the hairstyles already in-game have little to no crossover, so why is this a problem now?

Can you grow your hair out in real life and chose any hairstyle you want? Unless you’re military or in certain lines of work, the answer is most likely, “yes”.

Yes, games often have less freedom than in real life, and that’s rediculous. It goes against the entire reason of playing a fantasy game to begin with. Arbitrary restrictions just for the sake of being arbitrary are not good.

As for why this is specifically a problem, alot of people play this game who are metal fans, etc. and creating those kinds of looks is currently impossible.

Is there a way to increase fps in gw2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Try changing Character Model Limit to Lowest, this will hide everyone except your party members and make your computer only render the scenery. The slowdowns are mainly because characters have thousands of polygons and the Level Of Detail (LoD) system that is supposed to reduce their polygons as they move away from you doesn’t seem to work very well, and is often buggy.

(But turn on player names so you can actually know if people are there.)

NPCs will still slow it down though, so cities are sluggish regardless of what you do, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to hide them. :/

Also, make sure that you have “Effect LoD” turned on, as this will hide alot of the effects from players although from what I have seen it doesn’t hide nearly enough, you still see hundreds of skills being cast in big battles. Unfortunately culling other players via Character Model Limit does not seem to hide their skill effects, so you will still have to deal with eye-bleeding, FPS-eating lightshows.

The big difference between an MMO and a game like an FPS that can run at 60+ FPS at ultra settings is the MMO has too many characters, its very different from a game where you are just animating and rendering only a few enemies.

Will the New Expansion Bring a Decent UI?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hannelore.8153

Hannelore.8153

Some convenience stuff everyone would like and has been asked tons of times since the beginning:

- optional side bars for food, utilities, gizmos etc. No one likes to open the item panel to find the right food all the time. It’s just a lot of convenience. Nearly every MMO I played had this. Why not GW2?

Well, the pessimistic answer is obviously bag slot sales, and tying UI slots to the equivalent slots in a bag seems beyond their capacity, anything complex like that they seem to avoid at all costs (game engine limitations I guess).

New Expansion, Same Issue: Hairstyles

Its unfortunately but games will never stop having sex-oriented locks on customisation. Yes, it makes absolutely no sense that two people with the exact same head shape can’t have the exact same hairstyle because their sex differs, but we have to keep those gender roles separate right?

Let’s just ignore the fact that most of the male spellcasters in this game wear dresses, or that most Human males in this game look feminine anyway, ArenaNet was very much a fan of pretty boys in their design it seems.

If you think this is frustrating imagine not being able to wear nice-looking feminine armors on Asura because it doesn’t fit with the lore, having to struggle with outfits, then have them turn around and make Super Saiyan Charr. :c
