Didn’t we have to provide a phone number when registering the game, in the first place?
It was an optional field.
basically have to pay for an entire new game but really only getting a dlc
In terms of DLC, what you’re getting is more like a season pass. The living world has always been ArenaNet’s goal, so although HoT may look small at first, it will be expanded on over the following years. Keep in mind that moving forward, HoT will be required to access future new content.
How they end up marketing the future of the living story, you can only guess. Instead of giving it away for free for logging in, I’m guessing they’ll simply link it to the purchase of HoT as if it were a season pass. ArenaNet’s new business model is to bundle all prior expansions for free. The trick is, if they sell the living story separately like that, the game will retain its original price if you want the full package.
You’ll like it a bit less when the exchange rate gold -> gems will skyrocket.
If there was a F2P option, exchanging gold for gems would probably be a paid feature.
There’s really nothing to worry about. Regardless of if it’s a full F2P client or simply a free trial, either way it’s going to be severely restricted. ArenaNet has already had to deal with some of the problems that free accounts will cause, so it’s ridiculous to think that they would intentionally undo that. WvW for example was once abused by free transfers. They’re not going to repeat that with free accounts, which would be far easier to abuse.
If they do end up implementing a F2P client without certain restrictions however, it’ll be great to exploit. The personal loot system simply makes it far too easy. Simply AFK world bosses with several accounts. Even if free clients can’t trade, you can simply amass wealth, upgrade the account, dump your earnings, then request a refund (30 day refund policy).
Contact support to remove the authenticator from the account.
It’s entirely up to ArenaNet if they are saved or not. Not everything is simply reset; they have control over it.
Considering they didn’t simply make these achievements worth 0 points, they probably will stick. It’s just another reason to participate. However, since they do reward mastery points, that part will definitely be reset, so they may simply reset it all.
Personally, I’d rather see it saved simply for the I was there under the account’s history, like all the other lost achievements. Don’t care if it’s even worth anything.
Not sure how to feel about that though and wondering what the communities take is should we all be punished with less AP points than beta testers for not preordering a game we still know so very little about?
Why not? All new players are heavily punished by the loss of all the temporary achievements. They’re never coming back.
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Healix.5819
there is no way to purchase only Heart of Thorns.
You can purchase just HoT through the in-game store. **
The reminder only pops up every ~5th login or so, as said by Gaile. It really shouldn’t be an issue.
So your solution to not having to use the authenticator is to add my account info as clear text in a shortcut solution? This is exactly the type of kitten that causes accounts to be stolen.
If you don’t trust the people that use your computer, encrypt your account. If you’re afraid of another program stealing that info, your computer is compromised and you’re just as vulnerable to a keylogger.
Shouldn’t have to install shady authenticator software to avoid being harassed.
No need to install anything. Simply use a javascript authenticator in your browser. Although easy to steal since it would be in plain text, it can also be far more secure than WinAuth or using an app on a mobile device. Simply obfuscate it and display the code somewhere only you know where to look.
NCSoft accounts haven’t been used by ArenaNet in quite a while and it was never used for GW2. Originally, GW1 had its own system, which was later merged into NCSoft’s and the @ncsoft/plaync account names were introduced. You can keep those old account names if you want, you just won’t be able to receive any email support.
NCSoft’s account system did not make your account any more secure. If anything, it made it less secure since phishing the master account would let you see all the attached accounts. They did offer IP verification though, but it was only for the site. GW2’s account management is far more secure than what NCSoft offered.
As for the recent removal of NCSoft’s logo, only time will tell. Neither side is going to leak any information prior to an official public announcement. I doubt either side would want to split however since ArenaNet is profitable and NCSoft supposedly allows ArenaNet to do basically whatever they want. NCSoft does have a bad rep with some people however due to being Korean, which they assume GW2 is a Korean grinder. WildStar is also going F2P, which people will see as a failure. Perhaps ArenaNet is temporarily distancing themselves so that HoT isn’t dragged down by that.
They closed down Support and essentially it’s just running along on its own.
GW1 support was merged into GW2. They’re simply no longer dedicated to GW1.
golem is a bad example because it has an untelegraphed, close to insta-down mechanic (the ground electrification)
The electrified ground fades in. You’ll notice it about a second before it actually activates. You shouldn’t need to dodge it all. Once you learn the pattern, a single step to the next safe area will do.
Do you plan on playing HoT at release and only want to purchase the game through ArenaNet? If so, pre-purchase it. The price of the game through ArenaNet will not change for several months post launch.
If you don’t care who you pre-purchase from, it would still be best to pre-purchase it, but from one of the other vendors that’s offering a discount. One will pop up every so often.
If you just want to eventually buy HoT one day, you’ll need to wait about 6 months before it’s cheaper than what you can currently find. With some places already offering $5-10 off, plus the $10 character slot, it’ll be a long time before you see a $20+ sale (assuming of course you see value in a character slot).
And I’ve been hearing about some problems of players getting robbed of their money from the transactions refusing to process.
They don’t take your money until the transaction is complete.
One problem that can occur is an automatic refund caused by your bank. If you purchase the game through ArenaNet and your bank refunds it, your account will be banned. To avoid that, simply buy HoT through the website and wait a few business days before using the serial key.
Not by default. You’ll need basic macro software to send a key down without the key up. You’ll also want to rebind the default key to something that won’t cause problems due it being constantly pressed, like one of the F# keys.
The physical HoT edition you can buy now is only the pre-purchase edition. Another standard edition will be coming after launch, which may come with a disc. Considering ArenaNet seems like they’re going digital-only however, I wouldn’t be surprised if the standard edition ends up being the same as the pre-purchase boxes.
The original standard edition came with a disc, but you had to install it manually to actually use what was on it. By default, it would simply download the game. Even when you manually installed it, it was only worth about half the game.
Or as long as the game is active online you will be able to install it from this site and thus never require the physical cd of the game?
As long as the game is online, the download will remain available. That’s how all online games work.
GW2 uses Google’s tag manager, ecommerce and analytics services. Accessing these services (in any browser) will cause the connections to 1e100.net.
When you browse the gem store, they are collecting information on what you’re browsing and also sending your current character’s basic information (profession and level) as well as your available funds (gems, gold and karma). All stores do this.
Locate Gw2.dat. It’s where the game stores all its data and should be around 23 GB.
Right click the drive (see the left panel or open Computer) that Gw2.dat is on and click properties. Under the Tools tab, click check now under error checking. Choose to automatically fix any errors and begin the scan. You may want to do an entire surface/bad sector scan later to check the entire drive for problems, which will take hours. Bad sectors can lead to drive failure.
In the same folder as Gw2.dat should be Gw2.exe. You can try repairing the game using the option:
Gw2.exe -repair
If the problem is outside of NCSoft’s network, there is nothing ArenaNet can do. It doesn’t matter who asks them, they can’t magically fix the internet. When they ask for tracerts from the community, they know it’s not their problem. They’re trying to narrow down the cause of the problem so they can complain to that provider in the same way you would complain to your ISP. That’s all they can really do.
When someone says your ISP is the problem, they generally mean that the problem exists between you and your destination. Your internet may work fine, but you’re going through various different networks to reach your destination and different destinations will take different paths. One of those networks is the problem. As a customer, you complain to your ISP and your ISP complains to that network.
When the problem is within ArenaNet’s area of control, you’ll know because everyone around you will be experiencing the same problems. They limit processing per map for example, so when the action becomes too intensive, everyone on that map will lag.
If you have no intention of ever buying the expansion, you can buy the original game through a 3rd party vendor, such as:
http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-2-Pc/dp/B001TOQ8X4
If you plan on one day buying the expansion however, the money you spend on that will be wasted. You might as well pay $27 more to get both, instead of paying $50 to buy just HoT. If you’re just looking for a trial type account, simply buy HoT through buy.guildwars2.com. That way you can ask for a refund within 30 days.
Let’s look at this a bit closer… If I am out of the house and I happen to be able to use my son’s phone wifi hotspot connection and decide to read the forum on my tablet, All I need to do is use the PC app on my desktop 20 miles away to be able to log in on my tablet… yeah… that’s an option.
Using the authenticator’s secret key, you can setup the same authenticator on however many devices you’d like.
Authenticators are very simple. The code they generate is nothing more than a combination of the time and your secret key. Anyone with that secret key can duplicate that authenticator, which is why you’re not supposed to save it in an unsecure location.
The point is there should be another option that stops the reminders if one chooses NOT to participate for what every reason.
Use the -nopatchui -email -password command line options to login directly to character select?
Using WinAuth basically removes all the advantage you gain from SMS authentification again. If you get keylogged they might as well copy your winauth ini files and then have all the information required to generate the number for your account.
If someone is capable of physically accessing your device/computer or running a program, it doesn’t really matter which option you choose, they’re all vulnerable. Attacking your mobile device may even be easier, if you bring it out in public.
For the average user however, using something other than WinAuth would be more secure than it. You’re likely not going to be a victim of a real time attack, but rather a wide net attack simply looking for data to sell. Since WinAuth is well known, it would likely be targeted whereas something else might not be.
To confirm the obvious, your original purchase was through buy.guildwars2.com right? And you haven’t received an email saying your refund was being processed?
Continue talking with support. Alternatively, go straight to the second step and post you ticket number in the following thread to get a second look:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Tickets-for-Review-3-days-older-1
Just because you don’t have an issue doesn’t mean there isn’t one. There’s alot of GW2 servers. You can check them out here: http://gw2status.de/
Those are only asset servers, which is where you download patches. They are controlled by a CDN service and the IPs will change over time. They don’t actually matter.
If the problem was on ArenaNet’s end, they would have likely said something, likely on the EU forums. Additionally, everyone trying to connect to a specific server (/ip in-game) would be having the same problem. Considering people have said that they were able to connect after using a VPN, one of the networks in EU has likely gone down.
The date will be practically revealed by the end of this month. Either they will announce it at PAX in 2 weeks or TwitchCon next month. Either way, expect at least a month delay between then and launch.
Considering the third year birthday, I’d expect to see it secretly revealed, then officially at PAX. However, considering ArenaNet’s policy, they shouldn’t reveal it until the last group of elite specializations are complete, which would mean a reveal at TwitchCon and a Novemember-December release.
Sadly still no CE
There will not be a collector’s edition.
So hardcore mode and hide in the zerg? Also, you can logout at any moment to avoid death.
A hardcore mode can only work when only hardcore mode players are involved. In the open world, you’re simply a burden and griefing everyone else. If you just want increased loot, add a challenge mode to dungeons/instances. Remove the leash on mobs and disable respawning/reviving.
Nope, I have e-mail authentication and it still bugs me continually. A little bit to intrusive.
Did you attach an authenticator and remove it?
I’ve only ever had email authentication and haven’t seen the message. Unless they’re slowly rolling it out to all accounts, there must be reason for it.
You could just attach an authenticator to make it go away.
Ensure that what you’re entering for your credit card’s billing information matches what the credit card is actually registered to.
Try using a different email. I’ve heard of it being the problem for some people. The email you enter at billing is only where the receipt and serial will be sent, which you can apply to whatever you want later. If your email provider supports it, simply create an email alias to create a new email address that you can temporarily use.
Do you not use email authentication? I think it only asks you if you’re not using any of the three authentication methods (email authentication being the most basic and should be enabled for any account with a verified email).
You can use the -nopatchui, -email and -password options to login directly to the game if you want, or use a program to manage it.
I wonder if this is actually challenging group content or a system by which they will add challenging group content in the future. That will be quietly abandoned.
Either way, expect it to be quietly abandoned, as in rarely added on to. All group exclusive content has turned out that way.
Considering guild halls and the guild raids CDI, I would expect to see just that. They’re not going to announce something minor at PAX. Considering the current state of group content however, I really wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up just being a new challenge mode tacked on to old dungeons, which would allow for leaderboards. The only challenge is in competition.
Event mobs dropping loot has always been simply broken. The more people you bring, the easier it gets, but more mobs spawns, so you AoE and get far more loot.
Silverwastes is the simplest method that is fair to everyone. If scaled mobs are going to drop loot, the drop rate should factor in their scaling. It shouldn’t matter if you bring 10 or 100 people. Contribution also really needs to be improved to be more than simply dealing ~0.001% in damage.
Personally, I prefer the method used in Silverwastes simply so I don’t have to deal with a full inventory every few events. HoT goes back to dropping loot, which I didn’t bother with in the beta.
Masteries and XP should be one system not two
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Healix.5819
The mastery system is simply a way to simulate an increased level cap. People want that sense of progression and ArenaNet wants you to level through the new content like you would do in any other MMO. The problem that ArenaNet has to deal with is the fact that you can basically do whatever you want. Mastery XP is just a distraction. Its only purpose is to simulate leveling. Mastery points are the main goal. They ensure that you’re actually playing the game, rather than, for example, grinding the entrance.
The mastery system ArenaNet chose is identical to “mastery” systems seen other games. In some RPGs for example, you equip a skill and improve it by gaining XP with it equipped. Sometimes it’s simply based on number of uses or targets killed however. In action games, this system can be used with combos instead. For example, you might find a new weapon with various combos. To unlock them, you first have to do the basic combos a certain amount of times to level them. ArenaNet could have gone with either one, but the other way would certainly require more resources. Imagine having to take ~100k fall damage to unlock gliding, glide for ~5 minutes to unlock updrafts, use ~20 updrafts to unlock the next and so on. Finally mastering gliding would require completion of a timed glider “jumping” puzzle.
Considering the failure of the old trait unlocks, I doubt mastery points will be hard to acquire for the average player. They would have to offer alternatives if they were, which would just bloat the system.
Despite what they say, a VPN will not improve your ping (unless they have private networks). If your connection has no issues, a VPN will actually increase your ping due to adding another layer to the network. The point of a VPN and why it can improve your ping is to avoid problems on your normal route.
Normally, you can’t select how you travel across the internet; it’s handled automatically. By using a VPN however, you change your destination to the VPN, which then acts as a middleman to your real destination. When selecting a VPN server, don’t look at the ping, trace them to find one that will allow you to take a detour. Depending on your location however, avoiding some of the problems might not be possible. You will always have to go through your ISP’s connection for example. When going overseas, you also don’t have a lot of options.
The problem with looking at packet loss from pings is that it’s not all real. Pings are not important, so they may be dropped, delayed or entirely ignored on purpose. Hop 8 and 9 for example are just ignoring them and 7 is probably limiting them, since an actual ~73% loss would be killing your connection and affecting all future hops.
Another problem affecting the EU servers specifically is the bad network in Frankfurt. If you happen to be going through it, it will cause major packet loss during certain hours. For now (until that network upgrades), this problem can only be avoid by routing around it.
As for getting banned using WTFast, any VPN can potentially get you banned. The problem is that anyone could be using it. What happened with WTFast was that it was being used by malicious accounts, so ArenaNet simply banned them based on the IP. Everyone else that was caught in the net was unbanned shortly after.
Your trace is NA fyi.
ArenaNet has always been pro-open world considering their goal from the beginning has been to create a dynamic, living world. GW2 simply isn’t like most other MMOs where the game revolves around dungeons. Like a single player game, the endgame of GW2 is the journey itself. They’ve always wanted to be different, so it’s a little surprising they even bothered to include the old generation of dungeons, but without them, traditional MMO players would have been even more lost. The hope is that they learn to adapt, rather than seeing no “endgame” and passing it off. Fractals for example were the result of people wanting that “endgame” grind, which was a lot more popular at launch with all the WoW players.
MMOs are meant to simulate a virtual world. All content should really be out in the open, but that doesn’t meant they can’t limit access to it. Queen’s Gauntlet for example could have been a solo instance, but what they went with is how an MMO should be.
The dungeon team was simply merged into the other teams. The dungeons added during season 1 were done by the living world team. They could continue to develop dungeons if they wanted to.
The lack of dungeon updates comes down to simple numbers. As noted back during SAB W2, the head of ArenaNet loves numbers. The higher the activity, the more resources it gets. See the quick return of W2 and the lack of W3 for example. If you noticed during season 1, they were testing different styles of content. Each style was a survey based on simple participation. The lack of dungeons is the simple result of that lack of participation.
If “challenging group content” lacks participation, expect to see only 1 of whatever it ends up being. Personally, I’d rather see challenging solo content. Group content is never actually challenging on an individual level to the entire group.
However, as the original source a year ago was deleted
Old links broke when they rearranged the forums:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Suggestion-Favorite-builds-button/4094307
The Veteran title is linked to the 2nd birthday achievement found under the hero section. That achievement is rewarded from opening the second year birthday present you get in the mail.
If you have the achievement but not the title, contact support. If you never opened the present, find it. If you never received it, try clearing out your mail. If you lost it, either wait for another character’s second birthday or contact support.
Even if HoT is simply downloaded like any other patch, you’ll be able to avoid most of it by never fully patching the game. Instead, rely on the streaming option.
To quickly free some potentially wasted space, disable hibernate, clean out the %temp% folder and use disk cleanup.
Rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe, move it to wherever you’d like to install the game, such as C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe, then run it.
Gw2Setup.exe will bug on some systems and display the login box instead of the install button. When it’s like this, the login box has no functionality, so it’ll never actually login. This bug can be easily noticed due to the lack of the play button (bottom right) and other controls.
Assault: The Shiro Sword Three Burst attack is ok on the normals, except that it does not seem to be dodgeable – that is you get one miss and the Smokeskale is immediately teleporting to you and hitting again.
It’s a channeled attack. Dodging a single tick of that attack won’t dodge the entire thing. If you dodge twice however, you will evade the full channel.
As for the mist field, simply keep mobile and it won’t even be an issue. Start by pulling them from range. They’ll either immediately open with their teleport multi-hit attack or they’ll waste their mist field, then teleport.
Unlike beta, you won’t simply be given your elite specialization with HoT. That’s what the points are meant to be used for.
To counteract the extra points they gave for leveling, they’ll supposedly add something else you can buy. (sounds like a bad idea to waste a very limited currency)
The sniper’s rapid fire does around ~4k per hit to an elementalist. For comparison to the live game, the rapid fire is similar to, but does double the damage of a regular karka’s spit projectile volley.
If you’re at range, the sniper is just as trivial as a karka. Their longer cast snipe attack will simply miss if you keep moving (strafe) and their rapid fire fails to the usual strafing back and forth. Low health melee will of course need to put in far more effort.
They do have very low health to compensate, but even getting hit by one of the projectiles can be a third of your health as a zerker. Multiples of them can easily down you within a second if you’re not expecting it, which can happen to the first two you encounter, making them look really overpowered. There’s also a pathing bug where they’ll teleport on top of you, and if you’re unlucky, they’ll open with rapid fire. Considering that the NPCs will gladly tank everything for you, they really don’t need to be changed with the more casual player in mind. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up halving their damage and doubling their health, making them similar to karkas.
Anything is possible. They are hiring a graphics programmer and one of the qualifications is knowledge in current-gen APIs, which lists Vulkan. This is certainly not something you should expect to see within the next several years however, if ever (not until GW3).
Find the program on your computer that contains LavasoftTcpService.dll, then disable or uninstall it.
After joining the map, restart the game. You may also want to change the character model/limit to lowest under the graphics options.
GW2 is reaching the 32-bit memory limit, which cannot be avoid since GW2 is 32-bit. Until ArenaNet develops a 64-bit client, you can only try to avoid the problem by restarting the client (to clean GW2’s memory usage) and lowering your settings.
So the question is: If you found out today that Anet was only releasing 3 avg size PvE maps (with more on the way), what would be your reaction?
Considering the living world is their thing, I fully expect to see only a single main map. The rest of the area would be gated in the same way Dry Top/Silverwastes was. HoT is nothing more than simple marketing – a better way to sell the living world. An expansion simply generates far more interest compared to free content.
If HoT launched with 10+ maps, people would just blow through them and rarely see them again. Instead, why not release with one map, then add a new one every other month. Each map would certainly see far more activity in comparison and there would potentially be a constant stream of new content until the next expansion.
If LS3 starts one month after the release then we’re pretty much set (imo).
S3, as in the story episodes, begins with HoT as its personal story. The regular 2 week releases could actually begin with HoT depending on what they’re planning, otherwise, a 1-3 month delay is fairly standard. They could use the festivals as a distraction for example.
Releasing “this summer” was never an official date and shouldn’t have been said. The guy is a part of the marketing team, so that would have been their internal goal. This summer was the most optimal launch window after all, since they would get the most out of their holiday events, which would keep players active.
Releasing before October however is quickly becoming very unrealistic. They would really have to rush at this point and announce the date as soon as possible. Generally, there’s a 2-3 month gap between the announcement and launch, which would put a realistic release around November. ArenaNet isn’t exactly standard however and I suspect to see a living world styled expansion delivered over time, since that’s their thing. I really wouldn’t be surprised to see only the one main map at launch.
As for the confirmed to be delayed content, it really doesn’t matter. The core content that the majority wants is all they really need to launch with. Most people are going to be busy with the core game and masteries anyways for the first month, or however long it’ll take. They really only need to launch with a sample of everything else. Guild halls can be swapped, so only 1 is really needed. Although I would expect to see a sample of “challenging group content”, they could easily delay it by requiring certain masteries, such as gliding and combat/lore, and guild perks (assuming they’re guild raids).
The way Omega Zoa phrases it, new people coming to GW2 essentially get an entire free game with every purchase, while old players get nothing (well, one character slot – big whoop).
The heroic edition was on sale for $10 while they were advertising HoT. The character slot has a $10 value. What new players are getting for free is the core GW2 game. For comparison, the heroic edition is the core GW2 game plus $20 worth of bonuses.
Without HoT, the future of the living world will be inaccessible. If you plan to continue playing the living world, it really doesn’t matter what HoT includes itself because what you’re actually paying for is the next ~2 years of development.
The expansion will likely launch with little content, then grow into it, in the same way Dry Top was released over time. Would it be better to have ~10 maps up front to burn through, or new maps/content every other month or so until the next expansion?
If their schedule is similar to GW2’s original launch, the release date will likely be revealed at the end of this month. Considering it’ll also be the anniversary, perhaps they’ll leak it a few days early as part of the 3rd year birthday, though likely in code. The official announcement will likely be at PAX.
Announcing the date at Gamescom was never an option. They haven’t concluded their first beta yet, and ArenaNet isn’t one to prematurely announce something.
The error is the equivalent of entering a wrong username and password. Support really can’t tell you what’s wrong with your information, though they probably should have informed you what the error was.
Ensure that what you’re entering matches what your credit card is actually registered to and also verify that the card is not expired. The error can also happen if it’s not a standard card that ArenaNet supports (though PayPal should have gotten around that). Lastly, contact the issuer of the card (maybe your bank) and verify that they’re not blocking the transaction.
You may also want to try a different email, which some people have found to be the problem.
You can buy just the expansion by purchasing it through the in-game store.
(it is however the exact same price and product as what you’d find on the website)
