You can check what IPs have logged in to your account under:
https://account.guildwars2.com/account/security
Assuming you have IP verification, an attacker would need to know your email’s password to login to your account. IP verification is enabled by default for anyone that has verified their email. If this is enabled, change your email’s password, security questions and verify that automatic forwarding or any recovery options haven’t been added.
If you want to go a step above IP verification, you can attach an authenticator. A mobile device is recommended, however there are apps available to run it on your computer, though obviously less secure due the possibility of your computer itself being infected.
If you got disconnected and logged back in to see that message, it sometimes happens. Your internet may have simply dropped for a second and the game tried to automatically reconnect, but the servers still thought you were online.
If elite specs use the same method as core specs, you can assume they’ll take an absolute minimum of 60 for the traits, 2 for the heal skill, 2, 3 ,4 for the utilities and 9 for the elite (80 total). The only reason why they might not make it higher is simply because hero points are a limited resource. In the future, they’re going to run into a problem where they’ll have to either flood the new zones with hero challenges, or make newer hero challenges award far more points. Either way, fully playing through the new content will eventually be a requirement.
Due to the complaining around having to play the core game to unlock your skills however, elite specs may not even use hero points. Awarding enough hero points through leveling was only a temporary delay to their complaining. If they didn’t want to do ~65 hero challenges, they certainly won’t like the idea of doing 100+. If ArenaNet fully caved, expect to see masteries used instead. That would make the change to hero points useless however and the elite specs were supposed to be character progression, not an account bound feature, so don’t count on it.
The bosses have always died this fast… when the average player didn’t show up. Now it’s as if everyone’s doing similar DPS to what a zerker did prior to the patch. Of course, the smaller groups that were killing the bosses fast before are even faster now.
Upgrading to the ultimate edition is not possible since you’d basically be buying gems for gems at a reduced rate. If you haven’t used the deluxe edition however, you can request a refund and then buy the ultimate.
The core game has no value. What they were selling prior to HoT wasn’t just the core game, it was the heroic edition. The heroic edition’s bonus rewards alone had a $20 gem store value.
What they’re doing with the pre-purchase is simple. Would you rather pay $10 for a character slot, or save $10 later? 3rd party retailers will no doubt be selling the game for a lower price around or after launch. It always happens. If you were going to buy a character slot anyways however, that $10 is the most you can expect to save for the next ~6 months. At that point, a special edition will likely be announced to keep the price high (like the heroic edition) or they’ll just drop it to $39.99. About a year after that, the price will drop another $10. Finally, the price will be reset with a new expansion and the cycle repeats.
I have a friend who basically only wants HoT for a Revenant and already has a character slot waiting. I put it simply, since you’re going to play Fallout 4 anyways, and it’s releasing around the same time/just after HoT is, simply play that instead. When you’re done, HoT will be on sale. (for perspective, they’re a very casual player, have never played in the level 80 zones and only want HoT to play a “death knight”)
ArenaNet likely doesn’t even know what exactly they’re planning on doing. It all depends on how things turn out. Their model has been an experiment since the beginning.
An expansion is needed to attract outside attention. People simply don’t care about free content. Just look at how people mention an MMO’s new expansion versus the content it adds in between them. What an expansion can’t do however is keep those players active. That’s where the living story comes in. Unlike the original launch, this time players will be directly pushed towards it. The hope is that they remain active this time, which leads to more gem sales.
Moving forward, I would expect to see an expansion every ~2.5 years with the living story acting as the introduction (like season 2) and ending.
Their plan to only offer the bundle isn’t going to turn out so well however. Complaints and refunds every time.
That’s not actually the game though, it’s a pre-purchase pack. The original launch had the same thing, followed by an actual standard edition post launch. It came with a DVD, but it wasn’t actually used unless you manually copied the files.
I might be swayed by a package that is simple the Expansion, for a reduced price ofc, with a free char slot, consdiering a brand new class.
If they actually split the expansion from the core game, it would still be $49.99 because the core game by itself has no value. What they were selling a prior to HoT wasn’t just the core game, it was the core game + $20 worth of bonuses. Since they were selling it for only $10, that means that the core game by itself legitimately has no value. It’s too cheap to sell, so they repackage it instead.
It unlearned everything and then only spent just enough hero points to restore my build. Seems a strange system, IMO, but at least it means I didn’t lose anything.
That’s what they did. I can see why though, considering the last time they ninja’d traits, some people didn’t realize and ran with empty builds for a while.
Forward them the receipt? It’s possible that their pool of keys are mixed, which will be a big problem for them.
Also check what you were actually charged to ensure that the receipt isn’t the problem.
Nah I won’t bother, it’s just a pity you can’t upgrade to the Ultimate edition, more cash for Arenanet, don’t really see the logic behind that one.
Because you would be buying gems at a discounted rate for gems. That’s the only difference between the deluxe and ultimate. If you want discounted gems, you can try to find gem cards on sale.
That $10 account came with $20 worth of bonuses (heroic edition) and just by logging in every day, has an additional value of ~$4/month.
I wonder why the didn’t just left the game at a 10$ price, if the purpose of the pre-order is to have a low barrier of entry, that would be huge.
It would have been damaging. A $10 account becomes profitable after 2 months just by logging in every day. On the other hand, it wouldn’t have lasted as the items being sold would greatly diminish in value. The other problem with a cheap entry fee is that it make it very easy for bots/spammer/etc.
To prevent that, they simply repackaged the game, merging GW2 and HoT. They should have offered HoT for $49.99 and HoT+GW2 for $59.99. Instead, they cut the heroic edition and simply included it for free. The heroic edition’s rewards alone had a $20 value, so if you subtract that from the $10 price tag, the core game by itself has no value.
Rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe, then move it wherever you’d like to install the game, for example, C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe. Run it. You may also want to right click it, and run it as an administrator.
If it still gets stuck, press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring up the task manager, then kill Gw2.exe. Run it again.

Claim the core game is free when you are actually charging a extra $10 for it forcing the players who have the core game to re-buy it.
The core game + the heroic edition was being sold for $10. How much was just the core game worth?
If you did buy the game for $10, note that it also came with $20 worth of gem store items. Additionally, just be logging in every day, the account holds a value of ~$4 per month.
The forums are basically a black box to ArenaNet. If the functionality isn’t already there, they can’t add it without completely changing it.
If you want to make people invisible, use a browser that supports addons, then make one.
If the core game is free, which Anet has said it is, then new players are getting something for free that I paid for.
The core game + heroic edition was being advertised for $10. The value of just the heroic edition bonuses is $20 in the gem store. The core game by itself is… too cheap to sell.
They should have just repackaged the heroic edition for $10 more, which would have invalidated a lot of these complaints.
If an unofficial retailer is offering a cheaper price, it was likely obtained through shady resellers which may have obtained the keys through fraudulent means. For example, they will buy the keys directly from ArenaNet, then force a refund a few weeks later, causing all those keys to get banned. If it’s a well known retailer however, they’re likely intentionally taking a hit to advertise.
But havent Anet said that there will be no boxed version?
Pre-purchases boxes aren’t exactly a boxed version of the game. They’re simply cheap cases with a code inside. The original game for example had one.
fyi, they could have…
HoT: $49.99
*requires GW2 to play
HoT + GW2 special pre-purchase bundle: $59.99.
Pre-purchase now and save an additional 17%.
GW2 was being sold for $10. The heroic edition bonuses alone were valued at $20. Cut those and… might as well give it away. Since GW2 isn’t F2P however, bundle it.
Ive about narrowed things down to an issue with directx which makes little sense because I have other games that work fine.
GW2 requires DX9. Recent games are probably going to use 10 or 11, so they’ll work without it.
I get a cabinet file cannot be trusted when trying to install directx 9 and ive tried installing it many ways….same issue. Tried every solution I have found but none work.
Judging by the error in your screenshot…

Try running DX setup under safe mode and additionally try the web installer (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35).
Open a command prompt (cmd.exe) as an administrator and enter the follow command to check for system file corruption:
sfc /scannow
Running Windows update (look at the optional updates) should help with some other possible problems.
They should have expected it. The same complaints were made when people were suggesting that season 2 should be given away for free as a perk with HoT. Could you imagine if the deluxe included it?
They could have simply avoided the problem by offering GW2+HoT as a separate package, with GW2 priced at the 75% off sale price, making it $59.99 total. The heroic edition offered $20 worth of gem store items. If they’re no longer giving those away, I can see how they would have justified making it $0. The problem with that however is that there’s no longer that visual separation to act as a placebo. To fix that, they should have made it $59.99, then put it on sale for pre-purchase only.
If people would have been satisfied with a $10 difference though (the base game was $10 after all), I’m surprised people didn’t complain more about the beta. Original accounts that participated in the beta were given the heroic edition for free due to a “bug”.
The other problem however, the belief that HoT isn’t worth a standard price tag, will not be resolved until HoT is fully revealed. Perhaps they assumed people would complain regardless of what they did.
But why didn’t they simply make a price difference to avoid the first half of the complaints? They might have not wanted to cause confusion between the two editions, though people were confused anyways due to the meaning of the free core game. They probably also thought the problem wouldn’t last. A big patch is coming after all and the complaints have already died down. I doubt anything will be done. In other news however, people are distracted and haven’t noticed that inspections and thus gearscores (invite only) are coming possibly next week.
Lastly, they might have been going for all press is good press. Other companies have managed to pull it off.

Response times varies depending on how active they are and the subject of the request. Average response time should be within 3 days, otherwise you can post in the stickied thread to raise your priority.
I’m assuming you were able to run and download Gw2Setup.exe? If a functioning Gw2.exe hasn’t be created yet, start be renaming Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and placing it wherever you’d like to install the game. Before starting, make a backup of a functional Gw2.exe for testing. Run Gw2.exe. It should start be downloading an update for itself, close, then re-open. If this is where it fails, look in the folder for another file that is roughly 20 MB and may be named Gw2.tmp. Rename it to Gw2.exe and try it.
Under Computer, right click the drive GW2 is on and select properties. Under the tools tab, click error checking and scan the drive for errors. If any errors were found, overwrite Gw2.exe with your backup and try again.
To prevent other programs from interfering, use safe mode. Although your anti-virus may be disabled, that doesn’t mean it’s not functioning at all. Some of them will even leave hooks in your system after you’ve uninstalled them, which then requires special removal tools. To use safe mode, press WindowsKey+R and open msconfig. Under the boot tab, check safe boot and select networking under that. Click OK and reboot to start in safe mode. Run Gw2.exe. To undo safe mode, open msconfig and uncheck safe boot.
The mystic forge tech is already there. It’s simply a game of match the IDs. They could have it thrown it in overnight with little effort.
When the eater was planned will be determined by how it’s acquired. If it’s tied in to the event and makes sense, it was probably planned. If it’s voiced in any way, it was planned a while ago.
(there is currently approx. 180 skill challenge points, what is happening with the other 120ish challenges??).
Nothing. Completing them will simply give you more points than what is required to fully unlock all the core skills and traits. When HoT comes, you’ll need another ~100 points to unlock the elite specialization. One day they’ll release more elite specializations and eventually ~100% of hero challenges will be required, assuming they don’t rely on a vertical progression style instead where new hero challenges are worth more than old ones.
Does this mean there is a max of 465 hero points that a toon can get or can you get more?
Forcing a cap would mean that players would be punished for playing the game. The only cap will be however many hero challenges exist in the game.
Will ALL my skills be unlocked (like I have now) in the new patch if I am level 80 and have completed all the skill challenges?
On the day of the patch, you will likely login to find that you have no skills or traits unlocked. Instead, you’ll have hero points to spend. Just by being level 80, you’ll have enough hero points to unlock ~85% of your skills and traits. You’ll need ~65 hero challenges completed to get the rest.
If I am yet to complete all hero challenges (previously skill challenges) in Tyria does this mean I will not have all my skills unlocked after the patch???
If you have 0 skill challenges completed right now, you will only have the points awarded for being level 80, which is enough points to unlock ~85% of all skills and traits. That is for example every skill and ~3.9 out of the 5 trait lines. Keep in mind however that you can only use 3 trait lines at a time now. As long as you don’t want to swap all 5 trait lines, you’ll easily have enough points to unlock everything you want.
Lastly and most importantly, all the skill points which I have already SPENT unlocking skills on all my toons (including knowledge scroll skill points), will they ALL be refunded (bar the skills points you get from levelling)?
Don’t count on it. If there was going to be any compensation, they would have likely said so. I could see them refunding skill points that were spent on actual skills since that is static, but not any skill points or gold that was spent on traits.

~2 years later, they give the heroic edition to beta participants for free.
Now that’s odd to mention the Maguuma Jungle because that is in the core game since launch.
HoT takes place in the heart of the Maguuma Jungle.

Remember crit damage? Different pieces had different weights when you converted them to stat points. When they introduced ferocity, they normalized them.
They’re doing the same for ascended gear. Ascended isn’t actually becoming 10% better because it’s already mixed between ~5% (weapons/armor) and 10~14% (accessories). They’re simply normalizing that.
In total, ascended currently has ~7% more stats than exotics.

HoT is not season 3 anymore than core game was season 1.
Each season takes place within the game’s actual timeline. The personal story is considered year 0 (1325 AD), thus in the living world format, it would be considered season 0.
HoT takes place directly after season 2. Either it will be the start of season 3, or it will be a gap between them. Either way, in the end, it doesn’t actually matter. They might simply time gate what would have been the personal story or they could release it all at once as several episodes or a single large one. Either way, it won’t be the whole story however (compared to killing Zhaitan), because that will likely be the rest of season 3, maybe even 4+.
This is their first time so it could go either way. Their choice will be made clear as soon as the story journal is revealed. “My Story” or “Season 3”
Isnt the expansion 1 map split into 3 biomes though?
Still incredibly small by most expansion standards for MMO’s.
What if that 1 map was the size of 10 Queensdales? What if it went all the way underground into an entire area hidden from the world map?
Season 3 is basically HoT. HoT will feature its own personal/living story.
They might not even go back to the old system. Season 4 for example might simply be locked behind HoT rather than requiring you to login. I doubt ArenaNet even knows what they’ll end up doing – they keep experimenting.

I have a feeling it would be a non issue if there was no free GW2 game added on.
They should update the page to show both an upgrade and a complete package (selecting either one would open up the standard/deluxe/ultimate packages under them). The upgrade would be $49.99 and only offer the expansion whereas the complete package would additionally include the base game. The complete package should be listed with a 59.99 price tag and as a “promotion” be on sale for $10 off. Behind the scenes, they would actually be the same item and the change would be nothing more than a visual mask. If they would have simply had a price difference from the beginning, this specific issue wouldn’t exist. GW2 was only $10 a few weeks ago after all.
The belief that it’s not worth $50 however would still be an issue.
This is true, until stock on the base game goes out. This is more of an actual question that I cannot answer rather than a rhetorical remark, but what will happen then? I will not be suprised if only the heart of thorns bundle gets restocked.
The original game will not be restocked because it’s too cheap to sell. It would have been damaging to the game to permanently sell it for only $10. Instead, they simply decided to waive the price and include it with HoT. They could have simply sold the bundle for a little higher to avoid most of this, but whatever.
[banana of penetration]
[&AgHbLwBAuV8AAA=]
Back when they unveiled HoT, they were encouraging new players to buy the game for $10. From then on, at major events they would again put the game on sale for $10. Buying a new account was an obvious choice. They were basically giving away the game.
With HoT, they had a choice. They wanted to make the game easily accessible to new players. WoW also basically offers previous expansions for free to make it more accessible. Offering GW2 permanently for $10 was not an option since it would have caused problems. Instead, they chose to bundle it with the expansion. They could have sold the expansion separately for $49.99 and offered a bundle including the base game for $59.99. That wouldn’t have been a competitive price however (compared to WoW), so they would have likely done the opposite and further reduced the price of the base game to only $5. That would make it $44.99 for the expansion and $49.99 for the bundle. With only a 5-$10 difference however, why not take the simplest route and include it for free?
The FAQ was simply updated to reflect that change. This could have all been prevented by simply making a difference between them. Is that all you wanted, a small price difference? Then the FAQ wouldn’t have been changed. Whether HoT is actually worth the price of a full expansion is another question.

Personally, the day they announced the $10 sales, I knew this would happen. They were basically giving the game away. Of course, bank accounts don’t need the expansion so buying a $10 account was an obvious choice.
ArenaNet’s no longer selling the core game by itself because $10 would have been its new price and selling it alone would have been damaging. A $10 account can turn a profit within 2 months, so if you were going to spend $10 on gems anyways, buy a new account instead. What they should have done was simply offer HoT and HoT+GW2 separately and showed that $10 difference. HoT could have been sold for $45-$50 assuming they wanted a standard price, while HoT+GW2 would have been $5-10 more.
They could have avoided these (bundle) complaints and the confusion that came along with it if they had just done that. After all, this problem was predicted months ago, so I can only assume their marketing team also expected it. Perhaps they figured this would work as a form of advertisement, then next week to turnaround the problem, they’ll announce that existing accounts get a free character slot, bank slot, bag slot and material storage upgrade. Just a character slot would have been fine, but the worse it gets, the more appealing they have to be.
Two Months Old Customer Felt Betrayed Already

So if they split the expansion from the core game and offered them separately, and you noticed:
HoT: $49.99
HoT+GW2: $59.99
… what then? They were advertising GW2 for HoT at a $10 price tag. They could have avoided half of these complaints by simply keeping that difference. Whether HoT actually offers $50 worth of content is another question.
This reaction was predicted here months ago when people were asking for content to be bundled for free. I can only assume ArenaNet’s marketing team also expected this, and considering they could have easily avoided it, it must be intentional. But what for? It’s all a distraction.
So wait you want to anet charge people more because…. people are kitten they made the core game free after almost 3 years?
That’s what they should have done to begin with. This outcome was predicted months ago when people wanted season 2 for free. Surely ArenaNet also knew what was going to happen? GW2 was being pushed by ArenaNet for HoT at a $10 price tag just a few weeks ago. They should have simply bundled it at that price, so HoT for $49.99, HoT+GW2 for $59.99. To a new player, $59.99 is the standard price for a new game. The $49.99 was likely intentional however so it wouldn’t cost more than WoW.
It’s too late now however. Now all they can do is offer bonuses for existing accounts.
Not offering a physical product also means that they’re not restricted by it. Normally, there’d be a guaranteed ~3 month window to account for production, shipments, retailers, etc. By being entirely digital however, they could actually release at any moment. It’s just a large patch.
GW2’s original price tag was $59.99, which is standard for new games. HoT is $49.99, which is the standard for full expansions. $40 was the standard for MMO expansions with subscriptions. The last WoW expansion was $49.99, the others were $40.
The GW1 campaigns were $59.99 and treated as standalone games. EotN was $34.99 and GW1’s only actual expansion.
HoT is simply priced to that of the standard. Whether it actually offers the amount of content you would expect out of a full priced expansion is another question.
includes Guild Wars 2 core game, i will get one more Guild Wars 2 game?
i mean if i want to get it expansion for myself and give Guild wars 2 core game for my girlfriend in another account, is it possible?
HoT doesn’t just include the core game, it is the core game now. GW2 is no longer sold by itself. It’s just HoT now.
Purchasing HoT gives you a HoT access key. That key can either be used to upgrade an existing GW2 account to a HoT account, or used to create a new HoT account.
GW2 was being sold for $10. They should have simply kept that difference to make it clear. HoT for $49.99, HoT+GW2 for $59.99. Instead, they made GW2 $0 and simply included it. They wouldn’t want to keep selling GW2 by itself at such a low price due to how damaging it is. After all, a $10 account pays for itself within 2 months.

This complaining was predicted months ago when people were asking for the expansion to include season 2 for free. Surely ArenaNet knew it would happen?
They should have simply sold GW2 for an additional $10 – the price they were encouraging people to buy it at just a few weeks ago. Alternatively, an extra character slot should be given to existing accounts to set the difference. I expect that when they come out after the complaints have died down, they will do something.
Although a standard, the $50 price tag is however also a problem. People simply do not believe that the expansion is an actual expansion and by bundling it, they’re almost confirming that. How much content is actually included? With what has been shown off, I wouldn’t be surprised if I finish the main content of HoT (as in everything except grinding) within a day or two.
Now my question is, will all people who already preordered the expansion from a third party website(at least the ones where NCSoft is the seller) get access to the Beta-Weekends?
No. Beta access and the title is granted for pre-purchasing HoT. When you pre-purchase, you pay up front and immediately receive your access key.
There will be 3rd party sites offering the same pre-purchase as ArenaNet, but they’ll basically be buying the keys here and reselling them.
In short, if you have a HoT access key, you have beta access.
This outrage was predicted months ago when people were asking for season 2 to be included for free. I wonder what ArenaNet’s marketing team was thinking. Surely they also expected this. A lot of these complaints could have been avoided by simply making a difference between new and existing accounts. Why not sell HoT+GW2 for $59.99 or give a character slot to existing accounts? I can only assume they intentionally wanted this, as the alternative is not good. Perhaps they’re trying to flag loyal accounts for some purpose.
Is there any way I can buy the expansion with dollars instead of euro’s?
