Small Complaint

does anyone else have real trouble getting the TP to highlight the right field/at all, or increment the right denomination? half the time when i’m trying to twitch the copper prices, the silver will adjust instead, and if i actually try to click on a field to manually adjust it, it will almost always take that as a click on the increment arrows

The width of the arrows is actually much wider than they appear, causing them to extend into the next field. If you click the left side of the copper box for example, you’ll click silver’s arrow.

When using the fields, ensure that the one you want becomes highlighted and shows the input cursor ( | ). While the field is highlighted and your mouse is over it, simply use the scroll wheel to adjust the value. Alternatively, you can click the arrows starting from the right edge of the box. Selecting the fields can be a little tricky itself due to this bad formatting. When you mouse over one of the fields, it automatically focuses it, however, your mouse actually has to leave the field first, which might not happen due to how they extend. To counter that, move the mouse either above or below the textboxes when you want to select a different field.

Considering the problem with the arrows, they’re likely backwards and need to be flipped.

To prevent the OOM crash, turn the model limit/quality to lowest and restart the client after joining the map. Restarting alone should be enough if you’re just doing one event (the more things you have to load, the worse it gets).

This should have been top priority before they started pushing betas because a new expansion is worthless if you can’t even play it.

This problem cannot be fixed without a 64-bit client. Chances are they’ll simply reduce the map population caps in an attempt to prevent it, rather than fixing it.

Solo Mode for Dungeons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Story mode dungeons should be a part of the personal story, or another type of personal story that goes with it if they didn’t want to bloat it. A majority of players likely don’t bother with dungeons, so they end up missing that section of the story.

Explorable mode dungeons should scale, and you should be able to pick the scale like fractals. If you want to solo a dungeon scaled for 5 people, you should get 5x the rewards. It would likely make them much more popular, which means more resources and they wouldn’t be dead like they are now. As for rewards, assuming equal scaling, soloing a dungeon would still be harder than doing it as a group.

I doubt anything will ever happen to dungeons however. They’ll likely remain lost content as ArenaNet moves on to try guild raids/dungeons/whatever with HoT. Dungeons were originally revealed as content designed for coordinated groups, so I wouldn’t be surprised if explorable dungeons end up coming back in the form of guild adventures one day. Then they wouldn’t have to bother with the typical PuG complaints.

Healer + Tank, ever a possibility?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

There will never be a dedicated tank or healing role in the game. That was one thing they simply wanted to avoid.

However, if they implement guild raids, the need for support oriented characters will likely be a requirement. You could bring full support characters or everyone could adjust their builds to be more supportive. I doubt there’ll ever be a need for a full defensive geared character however, since that only promotes poor play when there’s action combat. Taunt and kite, evades, blocks/etc will be how you “tank” in GW2.

The tournament is simple advertising. If they didn’t do them, that money wouldn’t be going into the game, it would be going into some other form of advertising. PvE doesn’t need an incentive whereas PvP, especially competitive PvP, does. Without that incentive, there’d be no reason to play GW2 over another MMO that does offer paid tournaments. They’re simply trying to attract that type of player. (and ArenaNet has always wanted to be in the competitive PvP scene)

There was no need to form parties or be social in GW1 either. You could easily play through most of the game with only henchmen; elite areas being the exception. When full hero teams were finally allowed, even the elite areas could be completed by yourself.

Although they say they will be giving away past expansions for free, what you’ll get is likely only the basics.

If you buy HoT, you’ll likely get the next 2 seasons of the living story for free without any restrictions. If you skip HoT however and start with the next expansion, those 2 seasons will likely be sold in the same way season 2 is. Although the game looks cheaper, it’s actually roughly the same if you want the full package. Using this method, they could keep the total price of the game stable throughout its lifetime.

I doubt they plan on actually giving everything away and going through the same complaints every expansion.

HoT Infraction Points

Healix.5819

If you’re referring to forum infractions, they won’t be reset unless they’re planning to bring in new forum software. Regardless, your account will not be banned due to infractions you receive on the forums except for in extreme cases.

If you’re referring to account infractions, they won’t be reset. Unless you’ve received a temporary suspension within the last few months and are planning another, you shouldn’t have any problems.

I thought infraction points are only a thing on the forums anyway.

They are, however they have a similar setup for issuing suspensions. Depending on what you do, you may be given a warning, a temporary suspension or they may permanently close your account. Each time you get infracted, the severity of the suspension increases, which eventually leads to a permanent closure. It starts out as a ~72 hour suspension.

Losing the account’s history by changing the display name is the reason why they don’t like to change it as per the thread on it

It’s only your public identity that is lost. They don’t want people to do something bad, then easily be able to become anonymous again, like how people would ninja raids in other MMOs then change their character’s name. From ArenaNet’s point of view, you’re referenced by your private ID, which is generated when you register your account, is (normally) only seen by ArenaNet and never changes. If you really want to, you can find out the identity of someone that has changed their display name by tracking their post history (their name is simply updated, example).

Not sure if anyone is still around to answer, But is one option more secure than the other?

It depends on what you’re using and how you set it up. Using a secondary clean device is safer than using a desktop authenticator.

If your computer is compromised, both options will fail on various levels. Using real time keylogging for example, your code could be stolen as you type it in. If your network is compromised, your authenticator’s secret key could be stolen as your set it up. If your device (authenticator/phone) is compromised, spyware could be installed to intercept your text messages, steal your code or recover your secret key.

A physical keychain authenticator is the more secure option simply because it’s a closed system. The next best option is a secondary network-disabled “dumb” device that is only used as an authenticator and never taken out in public. I’d say rotating the authenticator’s secret key would make it even more secure, however each time you set it up, you carry a risk of having your secret key compromised.

Text messaging is the simpler option. It’s the easiest to setup for the more casual users (see all the recent threads complaining about losing the authenticator key for example). That’s the simple reason why it’s recommended first. Text messages can however be intercepted at the provider level, though they wouldn’t be able to find out whose code it was without really digging for it.

Unless you’re specifically targeted, both options are fairly equal. For the average user, it really doesn’t matter. For the incompetent user however, either option is fine, but a “dumb” device should be used (if they can install software, they can be compromised).

How to Multibox GW2?

Make a duplicate of your Guild Wars 2 folder. Use hexedit to open GW2.exe, and find and replace every “Guild Wars 2” and replace it with “Guild Wars 3”.

How to Multibox GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

But nowhere i could find a tutorial on how to Multibox GW2 without any Third Party Program.

It’s not possible to do it without the help of any additional programs. GW2 simply does not allow itself to be opened more than once at the same time by default. Using a program however, you can prevent that.

Here’s a simple method to do it using only tools that are supported by Microsoft. All you need is Process Explorer.

First, add -shareArchive to your GW2 shortcut. Note that this option will prevent the game from being updated, so you’ll have to run the game normally every update.

Start the game using the shortcut and open Process Explorer as an administrator. In Process Explorer, locate Gw2.exe and click on it. On the bottom half of the window is a list of items. Click the list and press M to scroll to the Mutant objects (sort the list by type). Right click the one named “AN-Mutex-Window-Guild Wars 2” and close it. Alternatively, you can press CTRL+F and simply search for it. You’ll need to close this handle every time you want to open a new client, since every client you open will recreate it.

HoT Story Requirements

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Season 2 won’t be required in the same sense that the personal story isn’t required to play season 2. The only requirement of HoT/Season 3 is being level 80 and owning HoT.

It would be especially weird to give away the base game for free to avoid new players having to pay twice to play HoT and then force them to buy Season 2.

That’s what they’ll probably end up doing after HoT. They’re not giving away the game to avoid multiple payments, they’re making it easier to get people through the door.

Moving forward, I would expect that the living story is now free for anyone that bought the expansion (no need to login like season 2). Start with the next expansion however and although you would get HoT for free, the seasons would be a separate purchase. You wouldn’t be required to play those seasons, however you’d likely be missing out on masteries, elite specializations and whatever else.

Code not Key u know the secret code then u verify it then it convert to numbers so u can log in to your game

The secret key is the secret code. It should be referred to as the secret key however because the number that is generated from it is called a code. The secret key is 16 characters whereas the authenticator’s code is 6 digits.

If you have lost the ability to generate the code and have not saved the key anywhere, then there is no way to retrieve that key. You will have to wait on support to remove the authenticator manually. Note that they will require private information such as the serial number and billing information, and if you admit to account sharing, your ticket will likely be ignored.

There was a 20% sale on DLgamer, but it wouldn’t accept any credit cards. Apparently it is a french site, but its listed under the US retailers

They have different sites: www.dlgamer.us

It looks like they support PayPal. You could try using that to mask your credit card if they’re actually rejecting them.

Hopefully that is the case with EBGames, and that they’ll continue negotiating.

Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

The release date won’t be revealed until after the first BWE, unless they don’t actually plan on doing a legitimate beta. The first BWE should be next week for Gamescom, assuming they’ll be offering demos there. The release date would then likely be revealed on the anniversary or at PAX that same week. imo, they’re going to reveal the date early as part of the 3rd year birthday present, then “officially” at PAX.

Id rather pay 50 dollars for a product worth 50 dollars at a later date than paying 50 dollars now for something that just isnt worth it.

ArenaNet isn’t exactly traditional and I highly doubt their expansion will be. It’s not going to be an expansion, it’s going to be an expansion in the format of the living world. Depending on how you want to look at it, they simply added a price tag to the living world concept, but added more meaningful content at the cost of delays.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if HoT only launches with a single main map. The rest of the content that you would expect out of an expansion will end up being gated like the living world. The final product will be the entire west side of the map that is currently hidden; from Divinity’s Reach to Rata Sum.

The living world was always meant to be their own take on an expansion. The problem however was that free content doesn’t sell. People don’t care about some patch a game gets, but chances are they’ll hear about the release of a new game. The solution? Package it as an expansion. You’re not paying $50 for HoT, you’re paying $50 for the next ~2 years of content.

They’ll still probably charge for the living story however, but with a catch. Instead of unlocking it for free based on logging in, it’ll be based on what expansion you started with. Although their new model is to include all prior expansions for free, the living story will not be included, which is how they’ll likely recover that cost.

will the old way of leveling ever return?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

If you play the game normally through PvE, the NPE is much faster than the old system. 1 to 10 used to take roughly 8 times longer than it does now and although it might take you an hour now to unlock all your weapon skills, it took you far longer to unlock all your weapon skills prior to the NPE (playing normally).

Either way though, everything that is complained about in the NPE was complained about prior to the NPE by someone else. People tried to quest for example by only doing the personal story, resulting in complaints about the requirement to grind. Although the gap is much bigger now, the idea is that they now have to figure out how the game is played much earlier. The content guide for example is to encourage exploration.

Purchasable living story when HoT comes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

HoT will be required to play future living story content (season 3+). They somewhat confirmed it during an interview, but didn’t really elaborate.

Season 3 is HoT’s personal story line and and season 4 will likely go deeper into HoT. Without HoT, you wouldn’t be able to access the areas to get to them even if they were “free” for everyone. Moving forward, I would assume that all seasons will now be locked behind the previous expansion.

You can only guess how it’ll end up, but I’m guessing they’re no longer planning on selling the living story. Instead, you now pay for it upfront by buying the expansion (you aren’t paying for just HoT, you’re paying for the next ~2 years of development).

The base of the elite specializations – the idea of what they are supposed to be – will remain as they are. Everything else however is subject to change. Balancing tweaks will obviously happen, but in some cases, skills or traits may be entirely redone due to feedback. Don’t expect to see major changes everywhere however, just where it’s really needed.

Wait until after the first BWE (whenever they let people test them) to get a better idea of the final product. Right now they’re basically a rough sketch, especially when it comes to the specifics.

Without patching, they can disable certain functions. Pretty much anything that requires approval from the server can theoretically be disabled. Generally, they disable content by replacing its function with a message stating that the content has been disabled. See the HoM for example. In the past, they’ve disabled things like vendors, NPCs, items, interactable objects, events, maps and servers. It is generally a game wide change however until a proper fix is released. Due to the way GW2 is updated, they’re also capable of pushing a change live much faster when compared to other MMOs.

What I’ve seldom seen is a suggestion as to how to avoid the need to keep your cursor over the bobber and your finger on the button ready to click at the random moment the bobber dips. I know that is designed to prevent bots from fishing.

Considering those mechanics are very trivial from a bot’s perspective, it’s not because of botting. Fishing is generally like that because it’s easy to implement. More advanced fishing generally has mechanics where you have to track the shadow of a fish, then reel it in without breaking it.

You’d have an easier time casually fishing using the click the bobber mechanic than you would action fishing. Simply find the bobber, put your cursor over it and listen for the splash – no need to look.

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Facing what you’re interacting with is working as intended. It’s the same idea as having to face your target to attack.

Under the options, there’s a setting called Use Free Camera. This option changes the behavior of the camera when you left or right click. When you left click, your character will run in the direction they’re facing and when you right click, your character runs in the direction of the camera. It sounds like you have this option enabled.

Alternatively, after interacting with something, right and left click at the same time to move your character in the direction of the camera.

If you’re seeing different functionality on a Mac, then it’s likely a bug.

That’s strange because sometimes I’m having the opposite effect – where I want to turn around but I can’t! I press my ‘about-turn’ key (x) and the character attempts to turn around but is forced back to face where it was.

If you have Use Free Camera enabled and left click, about face will flip your character once and stop working until you right click.

80 is too many

Healix.5819

Leveling was intentionally designed to be many quick levels rather than few longer levels. The difference between a level 80 and 40 cap would simply be dividing everything in half, with each level taking twice as long. It was meant to be casual friendly. They wanted people to see progress at a reliable rate, which is why they chose an average of 1 hour per level.

As for gear, changing the level cap now would make no difference because the stat difference between a level X and level X+1 would simply be that much larger. Changing that would require changing everything. Personally, I don’t even bother with gear while leveling and only equip what the personal story and level up rewards give me.

If you actually explore the game however, as in look for hidden areas, listen to the ambience, explore all event outcomes, etc, then leveling will take far longer.

If the expansion was only $15 (season 2 was originally $20), they would just charge for the living story and treat it like DLC. In the end, it would cost the same. Pay $50 up front now for the next ~2 years of development, or pay $15 for HoT and $20 per season.

IMHO the core games inclusion was a major contributing factor in setting the RRP at a point which many existing players feel is too high.

They’ve practically been giving away the core game since the beginning of the year. The heroic edition was being advertised for HoT at a price of $10. To be clear, the heroic edition is the core game plus $20 worth of gem store items.

It’s a fair use/anti-spam mechanic. It really doesn’t have anything to do with gold sellers, but rather power traders. Anyone that bots the trading post isn’t really affected by it, it only slows them down. You can modify the trading post for example to automatically sell items as you get them. What it really limits is the people dealing in large quantities. Originally for example, you could flip entire markets as fast as you wanted (by using the TP’s API directly).

That $10 would get you the heroic edition, which offers $20 worth of gem store bonuses by itself. The core game that is included with HoT is just the base game without any bonuses. It has no value.

If they were going to reduce the price, they wouldn’t reduce it, they would increase it. They should have simply sold HoT by itself for $49.99 and offered a new player bundle, which includes the core game, for $59.99. This could already be true. All they have to do is make the difference then say that the $59.99 bundle is on sale if you pre-purchase now.

If you factor the veteran character slot and the actual value of gems, the game is $10 off.

Open the folder Documents\Guild Wars 2 and move the Screens folder to wherever you want it to be stored.

As an example, let’s say your Screens folder is:

C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Guild Wars 2\Screens

… and your new location is (Screens was renamed to Screenshots):

D:\Guild Wars 2\Screenshots

Open a command prompt (cmd.exe) by searching your start menu for it or by pressing WindowsKey+R and opening it.

In the command prompt, enter the following command using your own paths:

mklink /J "C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Guild Wars 2\Screens" "D:\Guild Wars 2\Screenshots"

What this does is creates a virtual folder in your documents and links it like a shortcut to the new location. Accessing the folder using the link will appear as if it’s a real folder under your documents, but it’s not and the files aren’t actually stored there. Anything written to that folder will be redirected, even though its virtual path will be shown.

The later ones may fill up but in my experience (and seemingly yours), success rate is… low.

I only show up ~10 minutes early and have had a 100% success rate since the crit change.

Chronic Problem - Unable to Login

Try using the command line option:

(NA) Gw2.exe -clientport 80 -authsrv 64.25.38.54
(EU) Gw2.exe -clientport 443 -authsrv 206.127.146.74

Alternatively, use a VPN. If you’re EU, there’s a bad network in Germany which causes problems for some (depends on where you’re coming from). Besides relocating the servers, ArenaNet can’t fix that problem.

Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]

I just don’t see how they have time to give us all the blogs now, let alone do a few betas, before that date.

The only thing that’s likely to happen in August is the revealing of a November release date. Assuming a standard launch, there will likely be a ~2 month delay between when they announce the release date and launch.

Anything’s possible however if they feel like doing whatever they want. 1 blog post per week? They could announce everything all at once or not even bother, then release just like any other patch. Realistically though, and judging based on GW2’s original launch, HoT is at least 3 months away. The first BWE should occur next week, with a release date reveal at Gamescom. However, they might push back the BWE to Gamescom (live demo), then reveal the date on the anniversary.

The base game has been discontinued. What’s left from 3rd parties is all that remains.

If they want to try the game, just buy HoT directly from buy.guildwars2.com. That way they can request a refund if they choose to do so (within 30 days).

And can’t log in with the GW1 account information neither

Testing now, I can’t either, however I do know it worked just prior to HoT pre-purchasing. They probably broke the system with the last update when they added the new registration system (https://register.arena.net). (doesn’t work there either)

You can contact support to get your accounts manually linked or the email updated.

Aren’t @ncsoft accounts not supported anymore?

They’re supported, they just have invalid emails. You’re supposed to login and update them or contact support.

It shouldn’t matter if it’s an @ncsoft account. When you link it, the accounts are merged and your GW2 account becomes your GW1 account (you login to GW1 using your GW2 account).

If you want, you can update your @ncsoft username to a proper email by logging in to https://account.guildwars2.com/ using your GW1 account information.

Yes, GW1 accounts still work. The HoM in GW2 is currently disabled due to an exploit however, so you can’t get any of the rewards.

Anet, HoT = Free world transfer?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

One day they probably will drop the concept of players being tied to servers for WvW. Instead for example, tie it to guilds. At the start of the WvW season, everyone is reset. Upon entering WvW, you’re asked which guild you’d like to represent for the season (defaulted to your own home server). Instead of representing your own home server, you represent your selected guild’s server.

Another method would be team signups at the start of the season. Basically, imagine launch day (all servers are reset – first come first serve), but for teams/factions instead of servers.

As for a free transfer with HoT, there won’t be any. It would have already been announced as a feature if they were going to do that. You’ll have to wait for the next WvW tournament, which will likely take place a few months after HoT when activity dies down.

Can't use gems to buy gold?

If you haven’t spent the gems, you can contact support to request a refund.

The limitation is to prevent stolen credit cards from dumping gems.
