If it had zero value they wouldn’t divide account types into 3 types.
The three different types they list is to simply to make easier for players to understand at a glance. There are two primary types of accounts now: free and paid. Paid accounts are unrestricted and have access to all base content up to and including the most recent paid for expansion.
HoT really doesn’t even include the core game for free anymore since it’s free for everyone. What HoT does for new players is simply upgrade the free account to a paid account.
is it possible to purchase HoT from Amazon now ?
Always was.
For a list of the official retailers:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/retailers/
The refund was automatic if you pre-purchased HoT before July 31, 2015. It’s over.
Depending on how much progress you made on that account, if you choose to buy HoT, you may want to start a new account instead. That way you can make a profit off of the other account by simply selling your login rewards.
Considering past cases, whether it was HoT or buying gems, they’ve never really been clear. A chargeback has about a 90 day window however, so use common sense.
Why not revoke the HoT key, keep my GW2 account active, and allow me to purchase a HoT key directly from ArenaNet?
It’s fraud. From their perspective, you tried to steal the game. You bought it through a reseller who bought it from them using a stolen card. Support only sees you, which is why you have to contact them to clear up the mess.
If they just revoked it, people would abuse that. For example, the ultimate edition.
If you’re downloading the game or using the streaming option to download the game in the background, that could cause it, otherwise GW2 doesn’t use that much bandwidth during normal play. Considering your download speed though, you should have no problem, as even at 4k HD, Netflix would only be using around half.
Your router could be poorly prioritizing the traffic. You could look into manually setting up QoS on the router. You could also simply try using the -clientport option to see if your router will handle the traffic differently, rather than playing with the router itself. (Gw2.exe -clientport 80)
If you’re both using Wireless however, Netflix is going to want 100% of that.
If you bought any gem store items, they should appear in your history.
You can try deleting GW2’s browser cache just in case. Close GW2, open the %temp% folder and delete any folders that begin with gw2cache.
You could have accidentally traded your gems for gold, rather than trading gold for gems.
If you illegally bought gold, ArenaNet removed it.
Someone could have hacked your account, though chances are they would have done other things.
So they should just give it all away for free?
They need to give a taste of raiding, a single boss for example, to the core game. Eventually it won’t matter, but people will want to see what “raiding” in GW2 is. The lack of “endgame” content is after all why a lot of people quit back at launch. I know quite a few people (traditional raiders that have long since quit) that would raid, but probably wouldn’t buy HoT with only the promise of raiding. They’ll want to see it first, hence why it’ll eventually not matter.
Hopefully gear inspect and dps meter with HOT

Raids are basically guild content (they’re not meant for PUGs). You should be able to trust your own guild members.
If you wish to inspect people, you can use the API to do so. Those you want to inspect will have to give you their API key however, or use that website.
As for DPS meters, it’ll probably never happen officially. The most you could hope for is the ability to write your own combat log to a text file.
The refund was only offered if you purchased the game from buy.guildwars2.com, then purchased HoT from buy.guildwars2.com before July 31.
If you purchased it from buy.guildwars2.com, you can try contacting support, but do keep in mind that you are outside the HoT refund period as well as the 30 day full refund period.
If you purchased it from a different retailer, there’s nothing you can do.
If you choose to buy HoT, do not upgrade your account. Instead, start a new one and treat it as your main account. By simply logging in once a day on your other account to collect your login rewards, it will eventually pay for itself in about a year by simply selling those login rewards. If you ever planned on buying gems with real money, you will eventually recover your loss by instead exchanging that gold.
Anet refuses to add the proper tools to see if people are geared and built correctly so even though AP is a terrible indicator people use what they have because it is still better than nothing at all.
You can inspect someone using the API. The catch is that the person you want to inspect has to give you permission.
As long as a program is not touching the client or reading private data from the client in any way, it’s fine. To capture and analyze the screen is to simply take a screenshot and process it.
I have seen screen capture used to auto target say…. mesmers after decoys are placed etc…
Targeting is a separate function that has nothing to do with screen capturing. To add target functionality is to automate input, which is against the rules.
better submit the code to anet and let them look it over or somethin
ArenaNet does not vet 3rd party programs.
There are no official retailers in Canada. EBGames was the official retailer, but for whatever reason, they were dropped. I’m guessing they wouldn’t agree on a price due to the exchange rate.
If you want to wait, the physical standard edition (not for pre-purchase) will be available after launch. Any retailer will be capable of obtaining those, but that doesn’t guarantee any Canadian retailers will.
You will not be charged tax when buying from ArenaNet (may depend on the province).
The hitbox is the size of an average human. SPvP offers a standard enemy models option, which is likely the exact size (default standing position).
The visual size of your character is only an illusion. Only the hitbox matters. You can basically think of the hitbox as a 3D rectangle the size of an average human model and from the feet up. You can get a feel for its size by edging towards a ledge. Falling off that ledge is the edge of the hitbox. Small characters will be able to float for a step whereas large characters will still have a foot on the ground.
Keep in mind that attacks also have a hitbox around its visual and may be larger than they appear. For moving attacks, you’ll also need to factor in your latency. All you can really do is keep trying in order to get a feel for it.
Will there be a discount for heart of thorns

If you factor in the living story and the monetary value of gems, HoT will never reduce in price. If you don’t buy HoT, you won’t be given the chance to unlock the living story for free. Unlocking those missed seasons next expansion could easily cost around the same price as buying HoT right now.
Their new model is to simply make it easier for new players to start the game. The total cost will end up remaining roughly the same in comparison to an active player that purchases each expansion.
ArenaNet probably won’t offer a discount for about 6 months. It might not even be a discount but another “heroic” edition. It’ll only be like $10 off however, or double that in gem store items, so if you see the monetary value in gems, a veteran player should pre-purchase for the free slot. Through other retailers however, you can already find 10-20% discounts once in a while, which is the best deal you’ll likely see for the remainder of this expansion’s cycle, if you factor in the free slot.

ArenaNet has created a situation here by their refusal to produce physical copies of this upcoming expansion forcing countries like Australia to pay these outrageous exchange rates.
There is a physical pre-purchase edition and there will be a physical standard edition at launch. Taking quick look at EBGames, $80 seems to be the regular price for new PC releases and $100 for consoles. For comparison, HoT is $10 cheaper than a new release in the US.
I am just wondering if at the next expansion it will be the same, where people who own it has to pay 50$ again and new player will get base Guild wars 2 and HoT + the new expansion for 50$.
Keep in mind that new accounts will be missing the living story. Assuming 2-3 seasons per expansion, those that end up getting HoT for free will end up having to pay the price of HoT anyways if they want the full experience.

The difficulty of the game is going to vary greatly depending on how you play it. If you choose to play a full defensive build for example, nothing is really going to be threat and you’ll complain that everything is tedious and takes too long to kill. Similarly, if you play a ranger, the pet will tank your battles for you. For the full combat experience, you really need to play a low defense profession in melee, though in some cases, you’ll simply kill your target before it’s actually threatening.
If you want to be good at the game, nerf yourself to prevent yourself from killing your target too quickly. People like to burn down bosses in dungeons for example, but if you force them to play normally, you find out they can’t. Properly learn to avoid your target’s attacks. This is an action game, so sometimes simply stepping to the side is all you need to do to avoid a swing. Don’t just rely on blinds/blocks/dodges/etc, like a x/pistol thief only auto attacking in an AoE blind.
The level of the enemies you face is very important. The difference in your target’s level to your own acts like a damage modifier. -1 and below is casual. +1 is normal. At lower levels (below ~20) +3 to 5 is normal. Also, simply being downscaled by itself reduces the difficulty since it’s not exactly accurate.
While leveling, the first real threat you’ll encounter is around Kessex Hills when you meet the Toxic Alliance. Toxic Krait can be very damaging. After that, you likely won’t see a challenge until around 30-50 when you encounter pirates, some of which also are very damaging. Remember to pull groups rather than casually 1vs1ing.
If you min/max while leveling, the entire game will likely be fairly easy. You’re choosing to play the game on easy mode however. Personally, I’m biased as I’ve only ever equipped what I’ve gotten through the leveling/personal story rewards and to me, consumables are a crutch used by bad players. I basically end up with gear 20-40 levels below me, which is like taking double the damage and dealing 1/5th the damage.
If you choose to play solo or with others is going to make a huge difference. Some people simply can’t handle the difficulty of the game, so they see the content as being intended for larger groups. In truth however, it’s not. Most group events are scaled for 3 people. The more people you bring, the easier it gets and the less effort each individual has to put in. The Silverwastes is the most recent example. 2 people per fort, then 3 per lane is all you really need, but people expect 10+ per lane.
Although GW2 is fairly casual, the difficulty of its open world content really isn’t. Most MMOs I’ve played have treated solo players as the worst players – cater to the lowest denominator. You can faceroll your way through the entirety of WoW’s leveling experience for example. The big difference however is that you don’t quickly recover automatically, so the threat is created by continuing with low resources. In more recent content in GW2, you can easily get killed in regular non-group content within a few seconds if you play poorly. That’s not casual and I don’t recall ever seeing that in past MMOs outside of soloing group content. Even WildStar, an MMO that spammed hardcore, only offered casual solo content. (I’m personally looking for a Dark Souls-like solo-focused MMO – why not a single player game? – only MMOs offer “living” worlds).
GW1 and 2 uses the same account system, so if the GW1 account has the same email as what you want to use for GW2, then that email is already in use. You’ll need to known the password for that account in order to link it during the registration of the GW2 account.
According to their website, you’ll have to both own the expansion and login to unlock it for free.
The longer you wait to buy HoT, the more expensive it’ll get. Even when HoT is eventually free, the cost of those missed seasons will be around the same price as HoT is currently.
As expected. Challenging content doesn’t go well with PUGs. When designing content for actual groups, they balance the content around that fact and the assumption that tools like voice chat are used. They’ll also be able to force higher requirements and players won’t be able to complain when they’re kicked/etc.
PUGs will eventually be able to do it however, as soon as a strat becomes well known. Show your Liadris.
Guilds will also likely PUG/sell spots eventually.
You would have encountered the same thing had you joined them buy spamming “LFG Deathwing Paladin GS 2billion etc etc etc” They were simply a competent group with gear high enough to do it.
They were likely referring to LFR, which is a casual version of the raids specifically intended for randoms. They become much easier and further reduce in difficulty as you fail. The intention is to allow everyone the chance to see the content. Despite some people hating on it, LFD and LFR was one of the best things added to WoW because it let people easily access the content and see the story.
The installer doesn’t require a serial code. Are you sure they’re actually running the legitimate installer? Your serial is only asked for during registration and password recovery, which both are done through the website.
You install the game by downloading and executing Gw2Setup.exe. You may also rename it to Gw2.exe to convert it to the launcher, which will simply begin installing to its current folder.
I didnt hear more about more zones coming, more story coming, more PvP goodies coming nope.
I just heard that living story will move to raids. Which means SERIOUS money investment for miniscule part of population.
They said that the living world would of course continue. You can expect to see what you would normally see out of the living world. Creating a living world has always been their goal, so don’t expect it to go anywhere.
Raids will simply see new bosses as the living world continues. They’ll probably only add 1 every few months however. It’ll probably just end up being a single boss in a box to reduce the cost (think Tequatl in an instance). I don’t expect it to last long however due to a lack of participation.
Maybe they should be encouraging good security practices instead of just sweeping the problem under the rug with these stupid systems that require a phone number or installing shady software on your computer.
Why do you think they’re enforcing this? Because most hacked accounts shared the same password with their email which made email authentication pointless. If you have a secure email, especially one with 2FA, then what ArenaNet is now requiring is simply redundant.
Also, you don’t need to install anything to use an authenticator. Simply make your own using your web browser.
Agony is a mechanic that was originally revealed as being limited to fractals. It shouldn’t appear in raids, unless of course they’re a part of the fractal system.
New tiers of gear will not make an appearance. At this point, a new tier is about as likely as a level cap increase. Instead, expect to require certain masteries to get through certain raid mechanics. The glider was already shown for example.
As for needing ascended gear, it really depends on who their target audience is. Ascended gear will probably eventually become a requirement and I’d expect to see new raid infusions.
I feel that just “skill, strategy and coordination” is something rarely seen in MMOs.
Basic skill, strategy and coordination is required in all raids. Skill is to not stand in fire, strategy is planning to not stand in fire and coordination is to get everyone to move out of the fire at the same time.

Yeah I did indeed buy it off some 3rd party selling the game.
HoT pre-purchase went live in June.
You did waste what you spent, especially if you actually purchased it a month after pre-purchasing went live. One reason why you should always buy directly through ArenaNet is because they offer refunds.
Support can’t help you since there’s nothing they can really do about it. They can’t confirm anything about how you purchased your account.
Locking your build was actually something ArenaNet wanted. That was why you had to pay to change your traits, which they talked about pre-launch. Like GW1, they didn’t want you to swap for every boss in a dungeon. The cost however made people not want to experiment, so that was eventually dropped. Now traits have evolved into something that is pretty much meant to be swapped. Whether they actually want you to however, you can only guess.
Unless they want to require NPCs to change your traits, there’s really no way to even lock them without punishing either yourself or the entire group.

The refund was for people who bought the core game within the few months prior to HoT’s announcement. Everyone that wants HoT will have to pay $50 regardless of if they’re a F2P or veteran core account.
If you have the game now, at the very least you might as well login every day to collect your login rewards for free gold. Why wait for HoT? HoT is all level 80 content. You might as well spend the next 2 months to become familiar with the game and play through the current story.
The problem with challenging solo content is that it is even less accessible and harder to balance without relying on gimmicks. Challenging group content in comparison is only challenging to the group as a whole, rather to each individual and they don’t have to balance it with every profession in mind. It’s only a matter of time before people are carried through challenging group content, whereas for some people, they’ll never manage to complete challenging solo content without sharing their account.
The living story achievements were referred to as a hard mode, and the instances are designed for one person, but groups are allowed to trivialize it. This is intended to be challenging solo content, but there’s no reason to repeat it and groups greatly diminish its value.
Adventures could be challenging and they are for one person, but most of the challenge will likely be in competition with the leaderboards.
Want to unlock X new elite spec fully ? here go grind these newly introduced 200 hero points 1st.
That can easily be countered however by simply increasing how many points are rewarded per challenge. Hero challenges in the next expansion could reward 10 points each for example.

Keep in mind that you won’t be able to unlock the living story for free if you don’t purchase HoT. The price of HoT will increase the longer you wait, until it goes on sale which will just average it out. Even when HoT is free, the cost of those missed seasons will be similar to HoT’s current price.
There is no issue with running multiple clients. You’re just not allowed to multi-box like you would in other MMOs by controlling all clients at the same time.
To open multiple clients, you’ll need to run Gw2.exe with the -shareArchive command line option and you’ll need a program to kill the mutex that prevents GW2 from opening more than once.
If you want a program to manage multiple accounts for you, you can try Gw2Launcher.
If you want to kill the mutex manually, use Microsoft’s ProcessExplorer to search for and kill “AN-Mutex-Window-Guild Wars 2”
The game was heavily nerfed during beta. Back in the day, some enemies in the starter zone could basically 1 shot you. The problem of course was that the average player couldn’t handle action combat, so they nerfed everything. Since then, they’ve been slowly trying to teach players how to play. With every major content patch, they’ve slightly increased the difficulty.
If you want a challenge at lower levels, play naked or only equip what is given to you (don’t simply buy the best gear available). Additionally, all enemies you encounter should be a minimum of +1 levels above you.
Just take a look at Gauntlet Challange with Liadri the Concealing Dark. I spend 3~4 hours trying to kill her when it was released. One year later it was made so much easier. I didn’t fought her for one year, but killed her then after the first try.
Unless you’re counting the life steal exploit that was popular the second time, Liadri wasn’t changed. The domes were removed however, which would affect the camera and make it hard to see. Ascended gear was also introduced. It would be even easier now with the recent trait changes.
Magic find gear also still existed during the first release. If you were like me, you originally did it in a full set.
You can buy just HoT by upgrading your account through the in-game store.
It is however the same price and product as what you would find on the website. Now that the core game is F2P, complaining about HoT including it for free is pointless.
Masteries will make you more powerful, but only within HoT and only against certain enemies. GW1 did the same thing with title tracks (Lightbringer for example).
The $10 accounts were the best deal ever offered. By simply selling your login rewards, each $10 account can generate $10 worth of gems in about 2 months. If you ever planned on buying gems, the $10 accounts were a far better deal.
is there a way I can check settings in a browser/clear a cache or something that might help?
You can clear the cache by deleting all gw2cache folders located in the %temp% folder. (close GW2 first)
Or a way to get gems elsewhere?
Only if you want to buy gem cards from another retailer.
If you want to use a single email account with multiple GW2 accounts, you’ll have to settle for using aliases. An email alias basically works like a new email, but to you, it’s simply a folder within your primary email account. If your provider supports it, creating an alias is as simple as entering a new username.
GW2 uses a CDN service to deliver patches. It’s possible that your local CDN server is dealing with too many requests, but as a whole, no, the influx of new players will not matter.
You can manually select which CDN server you use by using the -assetsrv command line option.
Expect to see ascended gear almost required however. That’s probably why they wanted to buff it a little while ago, to make it more obvious.
You don’t need to login to download the game.
Setting up a new key in Winauth is 50 times less work then setting up a new
email address for a new account
Using email aliases, setting up a new email account is as simple as typing in a new username. Temporary email providers are also an option if you want throwaway accounts.
The OP have been active on these forums for over 2 years. It is extremely unlikely that this is new information for him/her/it. It simply seems like people are running out of things to complain about.
The vast majority of people aren’t going to know the exact ingredients of crafting every legendary available, or even care. See a few posts up for example. Since precursor crafting will make the process more like a quest, a lot more people will be looking into them for the first time in the near future.
From ArenaNet, you won’t find a better deal for quite a while, like 6-12 months at the very least. They’ll either lower the price or offer a “heroic” edition.
From other retailers, you can already find a better deal (I’ve seen up to ~20% off). Sales popup every once in a while.
Depending on how ArenaNet ends up marketing the game from now on, the price of the game may never actually change again. As time passes, the game may get cheaper, but you’ll have to pay extra for any living story episodes you’ve missed. With the next expansion, new players will get HoT for free, but all those missed episodes are basically going to cost the price of HoT.
If you’re a veteran player, the best deal you’re likely going to find within the next ~18 months is pre-purchasing the game on sale. You’ll get a free $10 character slot and a ~$10 discount. The game will likely never go below $20 off since there’ll just be another expansion to reset the cycle.
Can we expect more gem store items to be required for crafting new legendaries ?
Sure. Why not? A legendary keyblade sword that requires a gift of keys made from black lion keys.
Link? Source? going on the information I have I can say none of the legendaries I know of use boxes of fun.
So my question to Anet is, is there a way to totally wipe my account and start from scratch?
Not unless you want to buy a new account.
If you purchased your account within the last 30 days, you can request a refund and start over.
If you plan on buying the expansion, you can start a new account instead of upgrading.
Wait until the reveal tomorrow to see what the “free client” is about.
And what if we do not want to give you our mobile number or install your app on our smartphones?!
No need to install any apps. Any web browser can be used to create an authenticator.
If they were going to do a head start, it would have been listed as one of the bonuses when purchasing it.
