Probably referring to the ones blocked by group events. Depending on the tools available to your class, you may or may not be able to solo it. The stealth consumable should however get the job done for the guarded ones. The hero challenge blocked by the Temple of Melandru however requires invulnerability/blocks/evades since you’re spammed with interrupting roots. I haven’t seen that since the megaservers however.

The average player is just playing the game, so these hero challenges are going to seem impossible to solo.

Level a few free accounts and then treat them like heroes. You’ll be able to work around the numbers restriction for the core game at least.

Ascended will likely become easier to acquire as the game progresses and it’s added to more rewards. See season 2 for example with the rings and the chest pieces. Raids will probably give away ascended in the same way traditional raids drop gear. If they want raids to be truly challenging, you’re going to need several sets of ascended and multiple characters to optimize your raid. Hardcore progression raiding means certain builds and potentially entire professions simply won’t be good enough.

I would assume that raids will eventually require ascended and not just be recommended. WvW, general PvE and fractals all have infusions specific to their content, so expect raids to also get something unique. Progression through infusions was the original plan for vertical progression back when ascended was revealed.

If you plan to use an authenticator in the future, save its secret key. The key can be used to duplicate the authenticator whenever you want.

Devices are remembered based on your public IP address. Depending on your ISP, it may change regularly or remain the same.

I doubt an authenticator added itself. Assume your account has been compromised.

The delay is due to fraud. It originally was instant. If you still haven’t received it after 72 hours, you contact support.

Going by the minimum requirements, the patch on launch will likely be around 7 GB. You should be able to use the streaming option however to play the core game while it downloads in the background.

If you bought HoT through buy.guildwars2.com, you can upgrade by requesting a refund and buying it again.

It doesn’t matter where you buy it, you just need to add the serial to your account prior to release. The core account must have also been registered prior to January 23 (or June 16 if the account was purchased from an alternate retailer).

ArenaNet made the mistake of oversupplying candy corn, which they attempted to fix the next year by nerfing its sources and increasing costs. Foolishly however, they then released maize balm that just wrecked it, and made every other source of candy corn a waste of time. The clock tower for example used to give twice as much and you could speed run it twice as much per hour (they force you to wait a round after completing it now).

I wouldn’t be surprised if they nerf maize balm this year and/or increase the costs again. They may do nothing however except nerf the instance. If they don’t however, remember to exploit it like everyone else rather than completing it.

Anyone with HoT will likely be too busy to care, so there may not be a larger spike in supply this year. I doubt there’ll be anything new however, so there’s also no reason to farm/buy candy corn for that reason.

You can try using the -clientport 80 or 443 options (Gw2.exe -clientport 80) which may help with getting into the game (not patching). If they’re monitoring every port however, you’re going to need to use a VPN to hide what the actual traffic is. If you’re just playing the game, a free VPN should be good enough since GW2 doesn’t use much bandwidth.

As for torrent traffic, it’s not. The software monitors internet traffic much like a virus scanner would scan for viruses. It’s simply a false positive.

As for the CDN, GW2 uses CDNetworks. A CDN is simply servers around the world that carries a copy of what you’re requesting. If it doesn’t have what you want, it’ll forward the request to the next source and cache it. A CDN can operate like a torrent network where you would temporarily become a server, but not in this case with an actual CDN service.

The original plan was that you needed ~60 hero challenges and be level 80 to unlock all existing traits and skills. Due to feedback from WvWers, dungeon grinders, level skippers, etc, they decided to give you what you needed simply by reaching 80. The hidden consequence was of course that those ~60 points would be shifted to the elite specialization.

Moving forward, with future elite specialization, they want you to complete the challenges within the expansion to actually unlock them. They will likely rely on a vertical progression bloat style to accomplish that, as in each (new) hero challenge is worth ~10 points.

You can download the ISO for free, but whether you can actually use it is dependent on your serial key. If you can, it’ll be free. If you don’t know your serial key, you can use a program to recover it.

You’ll also have to ensure that your computer is 64-bit compatible, which it very likely is unless it’s like 10+ years old.

Keep in mind that to upgrade is to install Windows. Doing this could lead to complete data loss, so backup anything important.

GW2 is running out of useable memory. All you can really do is attempt to prevent it by lowering your graphics settings; the model limit/quantity being a big one. Prior to starting one of the mega events, you may also want to restart the client depending on what you’ve already done/how long you’ve played.

Until ArenaNet makes a 64-bit client, there is no actual solution.

Their goal wasn’t to destroy zerkers, it was to make it so other builds had a place and the entire group wasn’t running offensive zerker builds. Like every other RPG, if you’re the DPS role, your build and gear should be optimized for DPS.

It was mentioned on the stream that it would be released with HoT. It’ll probably just be another re-release however, as they’ll be devoted to HoT and have limited resources to fix any problems. If they do release it earlier though, expect it to be on the normal patch day, October 20th.

As for participation, there’s all the free accounts that will be experiencing it for the first time. For anyone that’s purchased HoT, of course they’ll be preoccupied for at least the first few days.

If you want to wait 2-3 years, HoT will kind of be available in the gem store. Next expansion, HoT will be free and HoT’s story will be purchased through the gem store.

You should be able to go to GameStop and purchase a digital key through the store. If you don’t care about pre-purchasing, you could wait for the standard edition box to be released at launch.

You could alternatively look into getting a “gift”/prepaid credit card.

I can’t believe this. Where is that feedback? I also talked with people in mapchat, and not a single one disagreed with me that content is too easy now. Reddit-threads have tons of feedback, 90% of players agree (based on upvotes).

Reddit, the forums, etc, represents a very small percentage of the player base, like less than 10%. The casual majority simply plays the game, so you’re not really going to see much of their opinions. Also keep in mind that people are less likely to give their opinion if it’s going to make them look bad.

Feedback also includes statistics, such as the number of deaths during the first story instance. ArenaNet also has in-house beta testing, where they bring in people for direct feedback. Friends and family of the devs also give direct feedback. The devs also hide amongst the players, watching and playing with you. Some people will also complain through bug reports.

These nerfs were inevitable. They don’t want to alienate the average player. ArenaNet’s goal is to teach them how to play over time, which can be seen in the slight increase in difficulty with every major content patch since launch. There may be more tuning to do, but expect to see the main path through HoT to remain nerfed.

They likely did it due to feedback and it’ll probably release this way. They did the same thing back during the original final BWEs. An ettin’s club smash or a moa’s peck for example used to kill you.

Keep in mind that without HoT, you won’t be able to unlock the living story for free. As soon as its start up, the price of HoT will actually increase over time until it’s put on sale.

Some of the official retailers have already had ~20% discounts. That’ll likely be the best deal a veteran player will ever see if you consider the monetary value of gems ($10 character slot). 50+% off sales will likely never happen again if they stick with expansions, since each one is going to reset the price.

If you upgrade from a paid account to HoT, you can request a refund without getting banned. People have done this to upgrade to the ultimate.

If you were a F2P account, you’d likely be banned.

The only information really available is if the servers can be pinged (), which really isn’t going to help you. The servers rarely experience problems themselves and when something does happen, twitter is generally where they say something. Checking the forums or reddit will generally also give you a good idea, since if there is a problem, there will be a flood of comments about it.

It’s generally slower on patch days, but last patch was far worse than usual (I’m usually never affected). It likely had something to do with WildStar going F2P just prior to the patch, since they share the same datacenter and likely the same set of download servers. Through trial and error, you can use the -assetsrv and -authsrv options in an attempt to find the less used servers, which may result in a better download speed and reduced connection errors. Alternatively, just wait a few hours for the traffic to die down.

Unlike the pre-purchase edition, the standard edition will not be restricted to specific retailers. Although it’ll likely be rare, you should be able to find it just like you would any other game. Gamestop or Amazon will be your likely choices.

Assuming the standard edition even comes with a disc, I wouldn’t count on it preventing you from having to download it. HoT is the base game now, so the disc will likely be wasted on the that. Assuming you’re playing GW2 now, HoT will likely only be a ~10 GB patch.

The launcher does resume where it left off. Some people confuse it as restarting completely since the progress starts from 0%, but that progress is based on the number of files remaining to download. You can also rely on the streaming option to begin playing HoT while the rest of it downloads.

If you’re not using a credit card, you can enter whatever you want. Keep in mind that if you ever need to prove ownership of that serial, you’ll need to provide that billing information.

This is why they wanted to buff ascended gear, to make the gap more obvious. Expect to see raid specific infusions to actually make it a requirement.

Prior to HoT, I know that using PayPal wouldn’t require your credit card information. I know that support will use that information as a security check if you ever lose your account, but I doubt they’d suddenly make that a requirement.

Are you sure you’re not doing something wrong? JavaScript disabled? Unverified PayPal account? Try a different browser?

Install as in running Gw2Setup.exe to install the game for the first time.

As a quick test, delete (or temporarily rename) the folder %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/, the file (if it exists) Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat and in the folder where Gw2.exe is located, delete everything except Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat. If you have enough space, make a copy of Gw2.dat, which you can delete after. If there’s a problem with it, the copy will fail. You can then try running “Gw2.exe -repair” to check the file. After that, proceed to running Gw2.exe normally, and if it fails, begin the disk check for bad sectors.

Next time you patch, start the launcher then press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open the task manager. Under processes, find Gw2.exe, right click it and select set affinity. Uncheck all CPUs except for 0. There have been similar cases (crashing/freezing every X files) where certain multi-core processors were the problem.

Open “Computer”, right-click the drive GW2 is on and select properties. Under tools, select error checking and begin the scan. If it’s your system drive, you’ll have to reboot. Keep in mind that this scan may take a few hours depending on the size of the disk. For a full scan, which will take much longer choose to additionally scan for bad sectors.

If you’re trying to install GW2, rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and simply place it wherever you’d like it to install to, for example, C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe.

Assuming you’re trying to install the game, you may also want to try doing so under safe mode with networking enabled. This will prevent other software from interfering. Press WindowsKey+R and open msconfig. Under the boot tab, check safe boot and network under that. Click OK and reboot into safe mode. To undo this, uncheck safe boot.

Won’t happen. The most they’d do is ban anyone that created hundreds of characters prior to them disabling it. Anyone that did collect multiple chests may find that they’ve taken out a loan and won’t be receiving them for however many days they’ve taken.

By using the URL I gave you earlier, which you can obtain yourself using any internet monitoring software, you can grab the certificate and see that it’s issued by Go Daddy Class 2 Certificate Authority. So you go to their website and obtain it. You can then manually check the thumbprints since you won’t be able to trust GoDaddy’s site.

The wall of text was about jumping to conclusions, which was started by that error. From the start, the post is just a mess of incorrect assumptions, like a long math equation where an error was made on the first line.

Personally, when I first encountered an error like this back when they changed to CoherentUI, I simply used wireshark to pull the request. Problem solved. The problem back then however was that CoherentUI was stuck in a loop on auto-detect proxies.

Join a zerg guild full of casual players that will likely buy gems with real money. Offer them a deal instead.

The funny part about this thread is, as a software engineer, you should have had the knowledge to debug and resolve the problem within a few minutes after seeing “net::ERR_ABORTED”. It is a Chromium error after all, which should have made it obvious.

The servers are fine. It’s your route to the servers that is the problem.

The ability to connect to something else only shows that you have an internet connection. The routes you take to different places are likely going to be very different. Somewhere along the route, something is failing. This is where you want to constantly run a trace to catch where it is so that you can either work around it (use a VPN to reroute your connection) or complain to your ISP to forward the complaint to the source. Use PingPlotter for example.

An encrypted tunnel is created between the sender and receiver. Only data sent between the two is encrypted. Using a man in the middle attack, the receiver can be faked, allowing the attacker to decrypt your information before forwarding it to the real receiver. To counter that, ensure your DNS is secure, which shouldn’t be a problem unless you’re using a shared/open connection.

You can’t “encrypt” what you type without specialized hardware and software to do it (which isn’t going to be compatible with normal software, like in this case).

If you want to go full paranoid, obtain a “gift” credit card. They work just like gift cards, so it’s basically useless after you use it.

As for software, your basic security software (anti-virus/firewall) will do. Look for a HIPS feature, which will greatly annoy you at first as it learns what’s okay for an application to do. Note that this won’t protect you from getting hacked, the key is to prevent your computer from being infected with malicious software.

WildStar is an action MMORPG, what did you expect? GW2 is a hybrid action MMORPG. GW2 is basically the same in terms of combat, except you’re given the option to automatically aim at your target.
