Skill challenges might not be weighted equally. What if WvW skill challenges were balanced around WvW-only players and worth more?
Each borderland has 3 skill challenges whereas the main map has 4. That makes 13. How many skill challenges are needed? 65. 65/13 = 5. What if each WvW skill challenge was worth 5 hero points?
As for the elite specialization, what if the new borderland offered enough hero points to completely unlock it?
The problem this creates however is people will recommend WvW for fast hero points in the same way EotM is recommended for power leveling. Would you rather have to do a bit of PvE or have an influx of people with no intention of WvWing?
The future problem however with hero points, and this includes the entire game, is that they are a limited resource. ArenaNet wants them to be limited because they don’t want people to casually unlock everything on day 1 every time a new specialization is released. That also means however that new skill challenges are required for every new specialization, which basically means they’ll always be locked behind new areas/expansions. I would expect new/higher level skill challenges to be worth more, following the typical vertical progression route which has the downside of leading to a bloated system, but that doesn’t really matter. I can’t see them adding a new borderland every time though, so there’d have to be another way.

Burning makes sense, the other conditions not so much.
Being able to critically hit a turret makes more sense than being able to crit a wall. You could crit a wall, if it had a weak point or defect. Turrets though, simply tip them over or wreck the gears/parts. Other objects should also be able to be crit, but they should be hard to actually crit, as in a -80% crit chance modifier.
If they wanted to be realistic, walk up to a turret – press f to kick. Now it’s partially disabled.
I ran a stress test for at least 4 hours.
Stressing an overclock is like trying to guess a random number. Guess the right one and it’ll crash.
I overclocked about a year ago, going from 3.4 to 5 GHz. While testing, I could run a stress test for several hours, but doing a simple action such as opening explorer and moving the mouse would immediately crash it. It’s all about triggering the right sequence. During my final stability tests, I would run it for at least 12 hours. On one of my last tests, I crashed ~18 hours in and settled with ~4.7 GHz.
Although the error states it’s a problem with DX9 accessing memory, it’s probably the overclock being slightly unstable.
If you wish to reinstall DX9, you can try this.
If you want to reinstall your GPU drivers, download the latest drivers, uninstall your current ones, then install them. If the drivers have a “clean install” option, you can simply use that. Otherwise, you can try add/remove programs or uninstalling them manually using the device manager.
Lastly, note that you can post text files as an attachment. No need to use another site.
It depends on how it actually drops. If it’s found like any other drop, magic find will probably affect it. If it’s a special drop however, like something that randomly appears in the world after killing something, then probably not.
According to the patch notes, events can also drop them. Magic find won’t count here, but events will likely have the highest base drop rate.
The only difference then would be your keybindings and some settings. Follow the last bit about deleting the folder/file just to be sure it’s not your local settings. Although both accounts share those files, they may change as you login to each one.
Other than that, maybe it’s a server side account problem, as in you open the scoreboard and you’re being spammed with updates. Have you tried a different character?
You can also try using “Gw2.exe -prefreset” which will also reset your server side settings, so you may want to screenshot your keybindings.
Different account? As in a Windows User account or a GW2 account?
If it’s a different user account, look for processes with activity during that time. You could also try simply disabling all non-Microsoft startup programs/services using msconfig. Is it only when you open the scoreboard or does it also do it if you simply spam B somewhere else? There could for example be a background process that is be triggered when you press that key. You could try rebinding the key in-game.
Delete the folder %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and if it exists, the file
Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat. Doing this will reset your settings. Run GW2 by directly running Gw2.exe, just to ignore any shortcut options, and run it as an administrator.
Nothing is happening to skill points when it comes to the mystic forge. Skill points are simply being renamed and converted to a wallet currency.
Will the new “elite” lines be better than the actual ones?
Elite specializations won’t be the #1 must have choice, but rather something that further specializes into a certain aspect of the class. For example, they hinted that one specialization would be all shouts and I assume the traits will revolve around that. If you wanted to play a shout build, that would probably be your top choice, but for everyone else, it’s not so great. That is what’s also going to be disappointing about it – you finally get new stuff, but have no interest in that play style. Similarly, under the current trait system, if you want to specialize in a certain type of weapon, you pick specific traits. The current trait lines however are just not as specialized.
The first elite specialization will be revealed soon, so you’ll find out for sure on Friday.
Hero points are gained by leveling from 1-80 and doing skill challenges. They are a limited resource and only used to unlock traits/skills. You’ll receive 400 points just from leveling to 80 and you’ll need another 65 points to be able to unlock all traits/skills, excluding the new elite specialization.
Skill points will be converted to a new currency and stored in the wallet. If you have 100 skill points pre-patch, they’ll be converted to 100 mystic stars (currently unnamed) post-patch. All mystic forge items that currently require skill points will use mystic stars instead. Basically, skills points are simply being renamed.
Skill point scrolls will basically stay as they are, but instead of giving you a skill point, they’ll give you a mystic star.
Big improvement?
The switch to CoherentUI was for performance reasons. Originally, they used Berkelium, then Awesomium, and now CoherentUI. In that order, each one is a more professional option.
It’s hard to judge if it was actually an improvement because they also rewrote the trading post. Originally, the trading post worked much like a web browser sending and receiving web requests for every action you made, except those that interacted with in-game items. Buying an item for example was a simple web request whereas selling an item was handled through the client. Now however, only the initial page is loaded and everything else seems to be handled through the client. This makes it slightly faster, but that’s due to how they rewrote the trading post, not CoherentUI itself.
Comparing the performance of CoherentUI and Awesomium, you won’t really notice a difference. CoherentUI is however faster to initialize whereas Awesomium was somewhat unstable, which would cause it to get stuck loading.
Rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and place it where you would like to install the game, for example:

They’ll likely take the simplest solution – burning is now the same as bleeding. It definitely won’t stay as is because burning was originally balanced around being equivalent to a certain amount of bleeding. If they wanted to play off the idea of fire, burning would be like torment (moving/wind + fire = bigger fire) and/or deal a higher amount of damage at first and lessen over time (like a fire going out).
**Sidenote – There are many, many more sources of Bleeding than Burning
Burning however has combos. Drop a fire field on top of a zerg and suddenly there’s 20+ stacks of burning.
It’s only a buff if multiple people are applying burning. The damage will be reduced to compensate, making it the same as bleeding. How they rebalance the skills, whether they increase the duration, apply multiple stacks or simply nerf it, you can only guess. If you’re alone and relied on long duration burning for the damage bonus, it’ll probably be a nerf.
Any Idea of numbers?
Open a command prompt (press WindowsKey+R and open cmd) and enter the command:
ping 64.25.38.230
Players that aren’t participating are not supposed to be factored into scaling, but that can easily be proven false. See the event next to Ascalonian Catacombs for example. Due to all the people standing around, the event is heavily upscaled and will stay that way for its entire duration. It has to be this way however, otherwise people could exploit it.
Based on what little player research I’ve seen, scaling is instant, dead players count and it’s entirely distance based (if you can see the event, you count). For comparison, originally (pre-Scarlet), scaling was based on if you were “active” within the event’s area and it was delayed by a few seconds.
If someone wanted to further test dead players, simply get 10+ people (the more people, the more noticeable it’ll be) to die at a defense event (the kind that spawns enemies/waves). As the event scales up, new waves will spawn more enemies and at higher levels. Alternatively, fight a boss and read its HP using a tool.
I doubt a dev will ever confirm anything since they don’t usually reveal behind the scenes mechanics.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/26vke4/boss_blitz_scaling_revelead/ is the only legit research I’ve seen. It suggests that dead players count.
The information on the wiki is based on very old information. Scaling was changed at some point during season 1 due to zergs being able to instantly kill bosses before they actually scaled. Originally, you didn’t count towards scaling until you dealt damage while in the event’s area. To fix that, they simply made all players within the area count.
GW1 Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall were standalone games and priced at $59.99 each, which was/is typical for new games. Eye of the North was the only normal expansion and was priced at $34.99. I would assume that the priced was based on the amount of content offered, since it was rather small.
$49.99 is the typical expansion price, which will be the most HoT will cost. With the lack of content being revealed however, I’d expect to see the $34.99 price tag again, down to $20 minimum (the cost of season 2). I’m assuming that’s why they haven’t revealed a basic price yet – it would confirm how small it is. Alternatively, I wouldn’t be surprised if the expansion is nothing more than a marketing stunt and ends up being sold for $0 as season 3. The living story doesn’t generate press whereas an expansion does.
It should take about an hour on average to level up once after level 10. The NPE made level 1-10 really casual, taking about an hour total. If you bother with crafting, it can really speed you up every so often, granting you several levels at a time. If you don’t know what you’re doing however, it can also slow you do.
All you really need to do is explore the map, gather everything and do all non-group events while 100%ing the map. Also kill any out of the way enemies, since they grant bonus experience the longer they’ve been alive, which can make them worth a lot. Alternatively, if you prefer grinding, you can join the farmers in Edge of the Mists.
As for WoW, due the increase in level cap, they made the older levels extremely casual. 1-60 alone used to take at least 4-5 days /played power leveling. For comparison, GW2 should take ~80 hours.
Lastly, “the endgame starts at level 1.” If you’re rushing to find the typical dungeon grinding endgame, you’re playing the wrong game.

In a case like this, you feign ignorance. One day you logged in and your characters were gone. That’s it.
From support’s point of view however, your account was never logged in to by anyone other than you. If you were using a public/shared IP (like a VPN) or were infected by remote access software, the attacker would have the same IP as you, so it is possible.
They do not do rollbacks for “angry girlfriends” or “evil little brothers”. They can’t tell a character that was deleted by an angry girlfriend from one that someone deleted and then changed their mind.
A roll back is a once per account feature. Why shouldn’t they? If you follow the above and don’t admit it, would they roll back the account, or is everyone that shares an IP doomed?
Rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe to skip the setup and simply make it start downloading to the folder it’s currently in. If you want to hide the launcher, you can start Gw2.exe by using the options:
Gw2.exe -image -nopatchui
If you do that however, take note of the file size of Gw2.dat (right click > properties) after a minute to ensure that it is actually downloading since you won’t be able to see any connection problems. Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring up the task manager to kill Gw2.exe if you want to stop it for any reason.
Once it’s finished, simply copy the entire folder. Specifically, what you want is Gw2.dat (~20 GB).
The contribution system needs to be changed prior to improving any rewards. Without changing it, those chest farmers are simply going to tag the events and continue farming chests, getting even more rewards.
As for enemies dropping loot, zerging an event shouldn’t greatly increase your rewards compared to playing it normally. The way it’s handled in the Silverwastes is simply the easiest solution.
Rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and place it wherever you’d like to install it, such as F:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe.
all I get is a syntax list
If you copy/pasted what was posted here, you’ll need to change the quotes due to how the forum converts them.
It should be like this:
runas /savecred /user:admin "g:\gw2\Gw2.exe"
Instead of this:
runas /savecred /user:admin “g:\gw2\Gw2.exe”
If your username has a space or special characters in it, you’ll need to add quotes:
runas /savecred /user:"My Account" "g:\gw2\Gw2.exe"
Out of interest – in that sequence you give, where does the second admin account come in
c:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /savecred /user:admin “g:\gw2\Gw2.exe -autologin -maploadinfo”
“runas” is used to start a process using the specified account.
/savecred is used to remember the login credentials (not available on Home versions).
/user:admin means to use the “admin” account.
The last part is the process to run, in this case “g:\gw2\Gw2.exe” with the parameters “-autologin -maploadinfo”
Bonus:
To create that “admin” account (or whatever you want to name it), instead of using the control panel:
net user "admin" "mypassword" /add
net localgroup Administrators "admin" /add
New account? Map completion is hidden until you’ve reached level 15 for the first time.
If you want to go for Luminescent, here’s a summary.
But the one in the gem store says it doesn’t come with the necessary part of the LS, so what then?
The complete package only contains the episodes you don’t already have unlocked.
Are the other items you mentioned determined by my own computer??
Generally, no.
Download and upload speed are dependent on your ISP and your latency is dependent on how far away you are from GW2’s servers and what type of internet connection you have. Latency can also be affected by your ISP, depending on if/how they prioritize your connection.
Your hardware can be a factor, but really only if you’re using wireless. A wireless connection has a slight increase in latency and a lower transfer speed compared to a wired connection. The worse your signal is, the worse it gets. A wired connection can have the same problem due to a strong electromagnetic interference, but that’s generally not a problem.
Your network usage is also a factor. For example, if you’re downloading or uploading something in the background at max speed, that will cause lag spikes as the game has to fight for bandwidth. This could be a problem if you’re sharing a home network with other people, in which case, if it’s an option, you can prioritize your own computer using your router’s QoS.
Use http://www.speedtest.net to get a more accurate measurement. Preferably, select a server near Texas if you want NA or Frankfurt, Germany if you want EU.
It’s not only your download speed that matters but also your upload speed and latency. Your download speed will affect how many people you can see active, your upload speed affects how active you can be and your latency will determine how quick you see something happen.
You don’t need a very high upload speed compared to your download speed and you don’t need a very high download speed unless you’re surrounded by hundreds of players. 50 Mbps is ~6 MB/s. GW2 will require far less than that, like 100 KB/s DL, 1KB/s UL tops. As for latency, you want around 100-150ms or less. The higher the number, the more noticeable your actions will be delayed by your latency. For example, with a 100ms latency, using a skill will be delayed by that much.
Projectile attacks without a target fire in the direction of your camera. Tilt it slightly to shoot farther away, towards the center of your screen. For a more obvious view, go in first person.
Maybe change the colors of the two messages.
That wouldn’t change anything. People that fall for this manage to type out a long URL without even realizing what they’re typing, meaning they’re basic users with little to no knowledge of the basics of the web. The people that actually need a warning like this thread will never even see it because they don’t visit sites like these. An in-game message showing what a real GM message looked like would have been more helpful.
Judging by comments from those that fell for it, the issue is the order. They see the message, they’re shocked and immediately do what it says. They don’t see the warning on the bottom because they haven’t read that far yet. Some even ignore the warning because they’re not 100% sure – after all, sometimes devs post on unmarked forum accounts.
They would have to hide the entire message behind a warning to even begin to prevent these people from falling for it – click it away to continue. Even then, some people will still fall for it.
You have a public IP that other people see and a private IP that only you see on your home network. Some ISPs also work like a private home network and lease you a private IP which can only be seen within your ISPs network. Going outside that network, a different public IP is seen. This type of ISP may have different public IPs in different IP ranges, which will flag an email authentication.
You can search Google for “what is my IP” to see your public IP. Use this to verify your public IP at the time you’re requested to authenticate, though this might not be accurate for the reason below.
You could have also been connecting through a proxy, which will act as a middleman for websites. It could have been legitimate or the cause of malicious software.
You can trace the other IP to get a better idea of what it might have been.
What your character looks like is just an illusion. From a hitbox perspective, all characters are basically a standard sized human in the shape of a 3d rectangle. Large characters are basically a foot too far while smaller characters are a foot away. This is why smaller characters can appear to hover when standing on a ledge or why the melee range of an asura is basically twice the size of the animation. Once you get used to it, you shouldn’t have any problems jumping.
That number is likely due to technical reasons as 64 is an odd number to end at if not for a technical reason.
They probably just chose that number because ArenaNet likes 2^#, binary.
64 would take 7 bits of storage, 8 bits being 1 byte. In 7 bits, up to 127 could be stored. Odds are however they use at least 1 byte in a standard database, raising that to 255.
A free slot will probably be given with HoT considering how they’re handling beta. Since they were capable of giving accounts a new slot, we at least know its possible for them to limit a slot like that and raise the cap.
I’m assuming you’ve already tried Gw2.exe -repair?
A few tests:
Make a “Guild Wars 2” folder on your desktop. Open the folder where GW2 is installed and copy (not move) Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat to the folder on your desktop. Try running Gw2.exe from the folder on your desktop. This is to simply test for corruption (copying would have failed/froze).
Delete or temporarily rename the folder %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and the folder Documents/Guild Wars 2/. In your %temp% folder, delete any folder that begins with gw2cache. In the folder where Gw2.exe is located, delete everything except Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat. Run Gw2.exe with the -repair option.
Press WindowsKey+R and open msconfig. Under the boot tab check safe boot and select networking under that. Click OK and reboot. Your computer will start in safe mode with all non-essential software disabled. To undo this, open msconfig and uncheck safe boot. You won’t be able to play the game, however the launcher should still function. Try running it. If it works, you have software that is conflicting with GW2.
If you haven’t installed it yet, simply rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and place it wherever you want, then run it. It will install to its current folder.
If you have already installed it, simply move the folder that contains Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat.
Did you try re-registering your old email account? Yahoo’s terrible policy is to delete your account if you haven’t logged in within a year.
Your only option is to contact support. Try again and simply say that you forgot your password and your email is no longer accessible. They don’t need to know that you let someone else on your account.
what relly needed is for aranet to implement an ap to install second accont with the rigth description on howe to do it
Don’t count on ArenaNet doing anything. GW1 was the same way.
And dont think i will trust a 3d party softwar.
Process Explorer is a program supported by Microsoft.
MultiWars2 is open source and was clean the last time I checked.
Rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and place it wherever you’d like to install the game, such as C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe.
The legacy armor is a feature of the heroic edition, not the deluxe specifically. You could upgrade to the current deluxe edition, which would upgrade you to the heroic deluxe edition, but it’s not really worth it (normally). Everything the heroic edition offers can be purchased separately. Currently, it’s on sale however, so if you wanted to buy one of the legacy skins anyways, it’s the same price.
After the purchase, instead of continuing to registration, you give them the serial so that they may do it themselves.
4. Retaining and appeasing veteran players is less important in this business model than in games that have a monthly subscription.
Failure to retain players makes it far harder to attract new ones, especially considering GW2 has little advertising and relies on word of mouth.
Are you speed salvaging to a point where the loot queue goes rolling by for several minutes? That might have a memory limitation or an unhandled exception.
Logout to character select then back in to wipe it.
Use the -StreamingClient option. You’ll be able to play the game at around 25% into the full download.
You have to login to a character and open the chest, otherwise it’ll just sit there until you do.
If you’ve set the -prefreset option on your shortcut, remove it.
The Mithril Box and Legacy Armor is a feature of the Heroic Edition, not the Deluxe. Upgrading to the current Deluxe Edition will however upgrade your account to the Heroic Deluxe Edition, granting you these 1 time items. Normally, it’s isn’t worth it, however, it’s currently 75% off, so if you wanted one of the legacy skins anyways, it’s the same price.
Considering your post history, your Rytlock Mini is probably either on one of your characters or hidden away under the old mini storage in your bank’s material storage. If you’ve lost it however, you can contact support to get a new one.
The original deluxe edition will continue to offer what it has always offered. They may change what the standard game offers however, but that is unlikely. They’ve done it once before for example, when they changed the standard edition to the heroic edition. If this were to happen again, you could obtain the new bonuses by upgrading to the deluxe edition in the same way that you can currently upgrade an original deluxe edition to the heroic deluxe edition by upgrading. The heroic rewards were just simple things you could buy through alternate means however, so even if they do change it, don’t expect to see anything special.
Assuming there is one, the HoT deluxe edition will offer bonuses in the same way the original deluxe edition did.
There have been cases where for whatever reason, the launcher would continuously download garbage data. If left unattended, it could basically redownload the entire game. This could be a problem with the launcher itself, a corrupted Gw2.dat file or a problem involving ISPs due to GW2 patching over port 80 (some ISPs like to optimize port 80 for HTTP traffic).
You can use the -repair command for the first two problems or a VPN to counter any ISP related problems.
(edited by Healix.5819)
Still not working for me.
Open notepad, then open the file “c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts” and ensure that you haven’t previously modified a GW2 related IP. You’ll need to open notepad as an administrator if you need to edit this file.
If set, remove the -assetsrv option from your shortcut.
Ensure that GW2 isn’t being blocking by your firewall.
Setup Google’s DNS https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using. After doing that, press WindowsKey+R and open cmd. Enter the command:
ipconfig /flushdns
Try running the launcher. If it still fails:
Search your start menu for cmd, right click cmd.exe and run it as an administrator. Enter the following command, then reboot:
netsh winsock reset
This will cause Winsock to reset back to its original state, which other programs may hook into and become corrupt, causing problems. If this was the problem however and the program that was causing the problem is still active, it will likely re-insert itself when you reboot. Try running the launcher. If it still fails, run the above command again, but instead of rebooting, proceed below:
Press WindowsKey+R and open msconfig. Under the boot tab, check safe boot and select networking under that. Click OK and reboot. To undo this, uncheck safe boot. Your computer will start in safe mode with most non-essential programs disabled. You will not be able to play the game, however the launcher will still function.
If the launcher worked under safe mode, open msconfig and uncheck safe boot. Under the services tab, check “hide all Microsoft…” then click disable all. Under the startup tab, click disable all. Click OK and reboot. This will cause most non-Microsoft related software to be disabled, though some essential software, such as an anti-virus, may continue to run. Try running the launcher again. If it works, you’ll need to go back to msconfig and re-enable them a bit at a time until it no longer functions to determine which programs is causing the problem.
If the launcher didn’t work under safe mode, I’d assume a networking problem. Try setting up a VPN and using the launcher through that. Try a free trial of WTFast or something. If it works, your ISP is likely the problem.
