I still have this issue. I don’t see how to delete “-assetsrv 62.154.232.187:80” will anyone show me how?

That is a modification done by the user. The purpose of adding that command to your shortcut is to forcibly use a different server to patch the game. The problem however, as seen in this thread, is that the IP of those servers will change.

If you’ve never modified your shortcut to add that command and you haven’t changed your hosts file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts), then you don’t need to delete anything since you haven’t changed anything.

If you’d like to try a different asset server however, you can add that option to the target of your shortcut:

"C:\Example\Gw2.exe" -assetsrv 174.35.52.71

Please stop creating outfits

Healix.5819

Armor has a design limitation where the pieces have to fit a specific pattern. If they were to convert an outfit to individual pieces, it wouldn’t look the same and it certainly wouldn’t look the same between all the weights. At the very least, they would have seams in different places. They can break these boundaries however, but it basically turns the affected pieces into an outfit. There are a few pieces in-game that do this, where equipping one piece overrides another slot. Specifically, it’s the chest and legs that are the problem, which is why they used to release only the other pieces.

Outfits in comparison give them a bigger space to work, though it’s still limited to what is technically possible. They don’t have to worry about fitting the pieces together. Simply put, it’s cheaper to produce.

Well, I kitten ed. Surprise, surprise. I put Gw2.exe in my vanilla H drive, not under H:\program(x86). I’ve since put it in program(x86).

The launcher doesn’t support running from the root of the drive, which is why.

Renaming Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe changes its functionality from that of the installer to the launcher. Running Gw2.exe will install the game to the folder that its located in.

For example, you should have put Gw2.exe somewhere like this:
H:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe

If you had previously started installing it to a different drive, all you need to do is move that folder. Specifically, all you need is Gw2.exe and its single data file, Gw2.dat. The game isn’t installed in the traditional sense, so you can move it wherever you want.

There’s nothing wrong with using a VPN server. You just have to keep in mind that when you do, everyone using that specific VPN will have the same IP as you and IPs are used as a simple form of identification.

Death Penalty

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

If you want a punishment for death at events, fix the contribution system. You should not be able to receive the full rewards for killing a single enemy then AFKing. Likewise, if you constantly die, your contribution would be too low to warrant any rewards. The problem however is that actual contribution can’t be easily calculated and the most contributing factor is usually damage dealt, further reinforcing zerker as the king.

Adding a penalty does not punish that specific player in the open world, it punishes everyone else. You can show up to Vinewrath as a low level naked character and let people carry you. That low level is not being punished, you are. Even if you choose to ignore them when they’re downed, they’re not pulling their own weight and due to scaling, you have to put in more effort.

Zergs out of control?

Making these things random and unpredictable make the game more interesting and might actually populate maps at times

You must be new. World bosses were originally random and it was possible for various ones to be up at the same time. If you were lucky, you could even do the full boss rotation in under an hour. Originally, these bosses didn’t even give decent loot. Two blues and a green was pretty much all you got. Later, they revamped them by giving them a daily bonus rare and increased rare drop rate.

People relied on others to tell them when a world boss was up and websites were created to help organize it. At the time, guildwarstemple.com was the popular choice. As soon as someone said it was up, people would flock to that server to join. If you got into an overflow, you lost your chance, which resulted in people complaining about guesters stealing their spot. People used the last known spawn time to estimate when the next spawn was. Some of the spawn windows were quite long however and people would sit there AFK for hours, both to secure their spot and to wait out the RNG.

While playing an alt in Queensdale one day, I remember the server restarting moments before the Shadow Behemoth was expected to spawn. The restart of course reset its spawn time, but people didn’t know that. This resulted in ~100 people AFKing for 3 hours until it spawned. Funnily enough, I recently watched a friend play WoW and they still do stuff like that there, waiting upwards of 10+ hours with a lot of people for a rare mob to spawn that drops a mount.

Later on, the GW2 API supplied event timers, allowing people to find out exactly when an event was up. It was still random, but you would know exactly when it actually spawned.

After the megaserver change, the API no longer functioned and instead of going back to the archaic system of AFKing for hours, ArenaNet instead chose to schedule them. Truly, nothing is interesting about random spawns and it doesn’t give players any incentive to actually play instead of just standing there, because you MIGHT miss it.

How i miss this...:(

Dodge mechanic makes Zerker builds viable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Skill based gameplay makes zerker viable. GW2 is a skill based action game. Because of that, zerker, or more specifically, full offense, will always reign supreme for skilled players. Nothing will ever change that unless GW2 specifically implements gear based difficulty, as seen in traditional RPGs where it’s not your skill, but your gear that is the deciding factor.

Dark Souls for example is a challenging skill based action game. Those who can will stack offense whereas those who can’t will stack defense. The elite are capable of playing naked, so why would they ever bother with defense unless they wanted to play casually.

As GW2 continues to increase the difficulty, some people will find that they’re no longer capable of wearing zerkers, then the next step down will be the next popular. This will create a wave however, where everyone except the most elite will be shifted down and the worst players in the game will find that not even nomad’s will save them.

There will never be a solution to the “zerker meta” since it’s not a problem. It will however shrink over time as the game becomes more difficult.

They have acknowledged that there is a problem that is affecting WvW, which likely also extends to every other heavily populated instance. As a result, they have lowered the WvW population caps.

If you only experience lag in WvW or a world boss, it’s probably the server. If however you experience lag in a regular semi-active map, it’s probably your connection. When it’s the server that is causing the problem, everyone on that map will also be experiencing the same problem.

The Fire Elemental for example is a simple event where ~100 players all begin attacking at roughly the same time. From anywhere in the zone, if you watch your ping, it will spike for the duration of the boss.

Screenshot folder language issue...

Healix.5819

You can try deleting %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat and
Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat. It’ll reset your hardware specific settings, though I’m not sure how the screenshots folders is selected by default. I’m guessing you have Windows set to a Chinese language/region and GW2 is picking up on that, which I would assume is a bug.

As a workaround, you can create a fake folder to redirect that “??2” folder back to “Guild Wars 2”. Open a command prompt (WindowsKey+R, open: cmd) and enter the following command, substituting your own paths:

mklink /J "C:\Users\%username%%\Documents\??2" "C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Guild Wars 2"

Before you run the command however, first delete the “??2” folder, which will then be replaced by a link after running the command. You can then hide this link if you do not wish to see it.

Refund for Infinite SAB Coin?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

They never said it would never return, just that there were no plans for it anytime soon. SAB was originally made as an experiment and released as a joke for April Fool’s day, likely to judge reactions, so if it went bad, they could pass it off. W1 was popular enough to warrant further development, so W2 returned shortly after when it should have been held back for far longer like other reoccurring/yearly events. W2 wasn’t as popular however due to length and difficulty, which is likely why it didn’t return as fast.

China never saw it, so I would have expected them to release it now, assuming China does April Fool’s. There’s really no reason to simply put it back in, unless ArenaNet doesn’t want to add old content without updating it (because people will complain about that).

The team behind SAB has been working on other projects. It was Josh Foreman’s project, so you really only need to follow what he’s doing to find out if he’s working on it or not.

As for a refund, it’s highly unlikely that they would refund something you purchased years ago. If they actually announced that SAB would never come back, they’d likely refund the gems however, though certainly not any actual money spent.

Dungeons as part of the personal story

Story dungeons should scale. It would add a lot of content that the majority of players would otherwise ignore. It shouldn’t be added directly to the personal story, but left as is – simply linked to it.

All dungeons should have the ability to scale like fractals, allowing you to select your scale at the start. Selecting a higher scale than the number of people in your group would offer increased rewards.

Changing "We don't rez the dead" mentality.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

If 5 people rez someone in 20 seconds you have 6 people back fighting vs 5 people fighting and one person running anything up to 3 – 4 minutes.

Why would you want to sacrifice 5 decent players to revive a single bad player? If someone died once and wasn’t capable of being rallied, they’re likely going to die again. Take the mark 2 golem for example and the dead people in the middle begging to be revived.

If ArenaNet wants to stop this mentality, they should disable reviving in combat and replace it with respawns on a timer at a special waypoint outside of the event’s area.

Even the devs have told people to respawn – as seen during the Tequatl demonstration where they failed.

However, if they simply waypoint away to revive, it will adjust for the new, lower amount of people.

Scaling down isn’t instant. If someone had 5+ accounts, they could specifically test it to see how scaling actually works and if dead or AFK people are even counted. I know that AFK people are counted for the first few minutes at least.

I agree always Say Thanks for getting a rez.

Every time I see someone pause and say something after I’ve revived them, I think, if you have time to say something, you should be paying more attention. Then rarely, an AoE or something just happened to spawn and they die again.

They should hide the message entirely and replace it with a warning that states the message was sent by a player. The message should then show a checkbox stating that if you fall for it, you agree to waive your right to an appeal. It should then end with a captcha and an accept button, which will then reveal the original message.

I have no doubt that people would still fall for it, then claim someone else did it, like their child or something.

If GW2 supported addons, this wouldn’t even be a problem because the players could flag spam far faster than ArenaNet could. I made an addon like this before and tested it in a trial account infested heavily spammed area, catching a few thousand messages per hour.

You would be attacking a boss and it would be something like 8599/10000, then people would join and it’d be 11179/13000, and more people would join, etc.

At least you’d easily be able to tell what the scale was.

Most games keep the actual number hidden. It’s not something you need to know and it adds a bit of difficulty (ie, spike the lowest health target, ignore the highest health).

Hello everyone, earlier today I was taking screenshots in GW2 but then there was no space left to store them so it gave me an error and when I clicked “ok” it closed GW2.

By default, GW2 stores its screenshots in your documents folder, which is under C:. At that moment, your drive must have been completely full.

Clean up your drive. Windows is likely struggling and beginning to use your other drive for temporary storage. For starters, disable hibernate, clear your %temp% folder (or use disk cleanup) and move your swap/page file to your other drive.

If the problem persists, check your CPU usage for a program that is using most of it.

Europe WvW is unplayable, not sure if this thread is about the lag going on in WvW, but it’s definetly a problem with your servers, not your customers.

The problem with these threads is various different issues pop up under the general complaint of lag, with some people even complaining about poor FPS. What one person is experiencing might be an entirely different problem than what someone else is experiencing. The original poster is in the US, so I’m guessing they’re on the NA servers. Lately, people have complained about connection and login issues in the US, but personally, I have not experienced any problems with NA, even as people were disconnected and couldn’t log back in. Simply put, for this problem, the issue likely isn’t with the servers.

Europe has another problem involving the networks where every evening the route will become unstable, causing lag and disconnections. If you experience lag outside of WvW, this is likely your problem and all you can really do is try to use a VPN to avoid that network. If however you only experience lag when in WvW, as in you weren’t lagging just a minute before in PvE and if you leave WvW, you stop lagging, then the problem likely involves that specific server. If you use the /ip command in-game, you can see the IP of the server. If the server is actually the problem, everyone on that IP will experience the same problem. This recently happened in NA a few months ago, resulting in the server being taken offline.

I’m assuming you ran Gw2Setup.exe yesterday? What are you running today? If you tried to run Gw2Setup.exe again, you’re trying to re-install the game. You should be running Gw2.exe.

Yesterday, if you ran Gw2Setup.exe, were you asked where to install the game?

If yes, locate that folder and run Gw2.exe to continue.

If no, check your %temp% folder for Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat. If they exist, copy these two files to wherever you’d like to install the game, then run Gw2.exe. If they don’t exist, rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and move it to wherever you’d like to install the game.

If you were trying to run Gw2.exe however and were encountering your problem, you’re likely experiencing connectivity issues. This should be noted by an error message where the progress bar would have been.

He suggests this a lot when the game won’t download.

The purpose of renaming Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe is to convert it from the installer to the launcher. The reason for doing that is due to how Gw2Setup.exe acts. It will download Gw2.exe to your %temp% folder, then run it with the -allowInstall option. The problem is, it can initialize incorrectly on certain OSs or due to permissions or security software, resulting in either the login screen being displayed, which does nothing since it’s not actually the launcher, or it might actually run it as the launcher, causing it to install to that folder, which is bad.

I’d say exotics are too easy of a goal for a casual player. Even back at launch, it only took me about an hour a day for 3 days to farm and craft my first set (cloth), which is one reason why ascended exists.

Ascended is definitely possible for a casual play style (so is a legendary), but expect it to take several months. I wouldn’t specifically go for it, just casually collect materials and you’ll eventually have what you need.

Completing the precursor collection looks like it could be a fun little quest, doing this and that. But crafting the legendary? Still just a boring material grind? Hopefully the second set of legendaries will be different. I’d rather have a skin that showed off something other than farming/time spent, like how Luminescent requires the achievements. SAB TM skins have more meaning.
