After you make the purchase, you’re given the option to immediately register if you choose to. By continuing to registration, it should display the serial key and ask you to enter an email to continue. At this point, you should also receive the purchase confirmation in your email, including the serial key. If you continue with the registration, it will ask you for your contact information to register the account with. If you want to give the game to a friend, you’d want to give them the key and let them register it themselves.

why aren't there guild wars in guild wars

like big battlefield were guilds fight each other like WVW but than with guilds?

WvW is just that. A “guild” in the sense of the Guild Wars was not just a group of people. It was an entire kingdom. Smaller guilds, which is the kind of guild that you as a player can join, were a part of these kingdoms.

The last Guild Wars included the kingdoms of Kryta, Ascalon and Orr. In a sense, you could say these are the three worlds competing in WvW. It’s an ancient battle stuck forever repeating in the Mists.

GvG as seen in GW1 was not actually what they envisioned. It was simply a technical limitation and only a small part of the bigger picture, which was WvW. There was an interview that talked about this back in days before launch.

Simply put, if you want Guild Wars, that’s WvW. If you want guild vs guild, that’s team based PvP.

GW2 Setup crashing.

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

The launcher’s interface uses CoherentUI, which is also why it can freeze if you block it.

Running Gw2Setup.exe downloads Gw2.exe to your %temp% folder and runs it from there, which is why you sometimes can’t just unblock it in your security software.

For starters, rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and place it where you’d like to install the game. For simplicity (and to prevent permission problems), create a folder on your desktop and put Gw2.exe in it, then run it.

If the same error pops up, add Gw2.exe to your security software’s exceptions. You’ll want to look for something called HIPS or something involving execution prevention. If you see a sandboxing feature, disable it. If it has an auto/game/silent mode, disable it so that you’ll actually see the warnings.

No longer solo friendly?

Healix.5819

Krait were buffed for the Tequatl revamp. Taking on a Witch solo is possible, but you’re going to have to watch those adds, because not only are they also buffed, they will also explode. RNG can also get you here, since the adds can be anything from regulars to elites.

The Toxic Spider Queen was part of the Toxic Alliance/Scarlet story. I think its cocoon is prioritized to people outside of melee range, so if you stick close, you should be able to handle it like any other spider by stepping outside of its slow attacks.

GW2 is the most solo friendly MMO I’ve seen. Even a lot of the group events that people think they need a large group for, can be done solo. That doesn’t mean that you can casually solo everything however. You’re going to have to put the effort in.

Also, with every major content update, GW2 slightly raises the difficulty.

Healix.5819

In the meantime, contact support stating that your account is blocked/restricted from selling items and that everything else functions normally. Include a link to that picture to hopefully make it more clear. You will likely have to deal with “handbook” responses and you will need to keep elevating your ticket until someone actually looks into your account.

That type of error is a generated by the server, rather than being client side. Either there is something wrong with your account or there’s a problem with how your client post’s data. That should have been ruled out however if it was connecting through the VPN and assuming you weren’t using a VPN server found within your local area (your account should have complained about a different IP, assuming you have IP verification enabled). If it’s possible, get someone you can trust (either someone with their own account that can sell items, or someone outside of your local area) to login to your account and attempt to sell something to confirm a problem. Alternatively, if you can sell something on a different account, that would also prove it, though not as directly. Remember to change your password if you do this.

New accounts do have restrictions placed on them when it comes to using the trading post, however what you’re seeing is backwards. Buying should have been the problem.

I will need to look into the trading post further, since all I can do now is make assumptions based on how the old trading post functioned.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

They could probably implement build templates in a day if they wanted to, assuming the original interface supported programmatically assigning traits/skills. The problem is the quality. Do they want to go with something simple like GW1 where you just copy/paste a build string, or do they want to implement something more advanced? The string method is very easy to implement, especially if they just make it a command line as a hidden feature (for example, /build PGluc2VydCBidWlsZCBoZXJlPg).

Living Story Season 3 aka Heart of Thorns now available in a box.

They’re testing a theory. Package up a few feature packs together with an entire season and see what happens. People complained about free content, so let’s see what happens if it’s sold as an expansion. Unlike the living story, a boxed expansion will gain outside attention.

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

If all you’re getting for your traits is “slightly more damage”, then I suggest you rethink your trait choices.

First, you are aware that you’re not level 80 while leveling correct? What might a lower level elementalist be missing? Assuming you don’t require help, a 10-20% damage increase, up to 30-40% closer to 80. The bigger change is going from randoms to exotics at level 80, which is what, a 300%+ increase?

Personally, I only equip what I find while leveling. Prior to the NPE, that meant hitting level 80, usually in Orr, wearing a mix of level 20-60 gear. After the NPE, gear is somewhat given to you, however you lose traits. For me, there was no major difference in terms of power, however the NPE version was definitely easier.

When you can kill enemies in just a few seconds while being undergeared, nothing really matters. You have to know how to play however, because in terms of defense, you’re practically naked.

Traits Part 2

but rather because trait tiers are now opened only at far later levels, limiting your build options severely while leveling.

In terms of time however, you unlock trait points at roughly the same time. Leveling from 1 to ~13 was greatly reduced, so everything is shifted.

Personally, I recently did an elementalist and had no major traits to level 80, at which point I went back and only unlocked what I needed. Except for slightly more damage, it’s not like it’s game changing.

Imagine if Dry Top and Silverwastes were locked behind an expansion. It’ll probably be as simple as that. You can do some parts of season 2, but you wouldn’t be able to enter those zones. The old world doesn’t get updated anymore because they stopped doing temporary content due to complaints. The days of season 1 and its truer vision of a living world are dead.

If however season 3 is available with the expansion, it will likely be the “personal story” of the expansion. If this is the case, it will actually be locked behind the expansion as content you’ve purchased, in the same was the original personal story (season 0) was.

You can just use the -image option to counter it. I would assume most people would rather play now, hence why it should be default.

About time, this game has needed this feature for a long time. I always wondered why GW1 had it but GW2 didnt.

It’s been hinted at in the -maploadinfo since the beginning. Maybe they were debating on how to handle missing player textures, then the low quality model swap was implemented.

Captchas, reduced kick timers, etc. None of these things will actually punish intentional leechers. They will only act as an annoyance to legitimate players.

Can I send you some data from the fiddler program? Maybe you can find out why its blocking the selling option.

Unfortunately, it won’t show anything. I was expecting the trading post to still work like it used to, but the new version is quite different and no longer seems to use HTTP requests. This means that Fiddler will only pickup the initial page, making it useless. If I had the time, which I will get to eventually, I would investigate its inner workings further.

When do both errors occur exactly. For example, can you select an item to sell and see its buy/sell order? Is it only when you actually try to list the item? Post a screenshot of the error, especially the other one that doesn’t show the SSL message.

either I go and buy a new computer to play this game or the support staff takes a look at the problem rather than provide solutions from a rote learned manual.

Simply re-installing Windows would likely fix the problem, unless you’re on an older OS, like XP, which would be missing certificates. If you have a spare drive to install Windows on or another computer, you could do a quick test that way. It’s simply the fastest/easiest way to rule out system corruption, limiting your problem to either your home network or your ISP. To verify your ISP isn’t the problem, try using a VPN.

They’re more likely to reveal a packaged season 2 “box set” than to give it away for free. Buying the expansion could come with a coupon for it however. If they were going to give it away, they might as well refund everyone now and simply make it free. Who would really buy season 2 now if they knew they would get it for free with the expansion?

The only way I see the expansion actually including season 2 is if it is severely lacking in content. Dry Top, Silverwastes, Season 2 – it was always a part of HoT, that’s simply how the living world works.

Stalkers in Guild Wars 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

This means that if you have an enemy in the game, your enemy can add you as a friend and then follow you from zone to zone spreading lies about you in mapchat.

So? What’s to stop them from spreading lies in every other map? Unless you like to chat it map chat, in which case other people might join in, why does it matter if they’re spreading lines in the zone you’re in? It’s not like map chat can stop you from doing anything and you can’t see it because you’ve blocked them, right? Just report it, block them and move on. If anything, you complaining about it makes it even more hilarious to them. Either ignore them entirely until they get bored or say something once in map chat after them, like don’t mind <name>, that’s just my pet stalker. Directly replying to them or acknowledging them as a problem however will only fuel them.

Hiding your location from blocked players probably isn’t going to happen. It would be easier to simply remove the location field entirely than having to poll every account’s ignore list every time someone opens their friends/followers list. Even if ignored players couldn’t see your location, what’s to stop them from simply buying a new account or asking someone else?

In the end, if someone really wants to stalk you, and I mean dedicated, they’re going to find you regardless.

PLEASE make condition builds USEFUL in PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Allow individual applications of conditions per player on mobs.

Have you ever seen an MMO support thousands of conditions on a single target?

A 25 stack of bleeds is 25 different debuffs compacted into a single indicator. This is why the stack count can change as all those short bleeds fall off. Other MMOs will do the same thing to simply make it easier to see, however, when it comes to actual debuffs that stack, they are actually merged into a single debuff with a stack count. With that system, single stacks can’t fall off and instead, a single new application will keep the entire stack refreshed.

ArenaNet has probably gone through various potential fixes, but supporting an unlimited amount of debuffs simply isn’t possible because it’s too intensive. Other potential fixes would basically require rebalancing every skill and/or changing how conditions work entirely. If they wanted to be simple however, they could just make conditions that fall off deal a percentage of their damage immediately, but that would make certain things, like a zerg + fire fields, very powerful.

Any change that makes conditions better in a zerg will likely make conditions worse on an individual level.

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

That kind of crash is related to your system. GW2 is basically waiting on something, causing it to not respond. For GW2 related crashes, the standard error reporting window would have popped up.

Is there anything specific that causes the crash?

Delete the folder %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and the file Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat. This will cause your hardware related settings to reset. You may also want to try running the game on low settings.

Is GW2 installed on the SSD? Do you have another drive? If so, make a new folder and copy Gw2.dat and Gw2.exe to the other drive and try running it from there. If your desktop is on the other drive, place it there.

Right click the drive GW2 is installed on, select properties and check the disk for any errors under the tools menu. Also do this for your main drive. If you were successfully able to repair the game however, this shouldn’t be a problem.

If you’re using any mods, such as graphics enhancers, disable them.

If you’ve ran any tune-up or system optimizer programs or have disabled/modified any system settings, reinstall Windows or try to undo everything. Running those programs or following guides to optimize your computer can lead to problems, since they might have disabled/modified something that something else relied on.

Press WindowsKey+R and open msconfig. Under the services tab check hide all Microsoft services, then click disable all. Under the startup tab, click disable all, then OK and reboot. This will cause most non-essential programs to be disabled. Do this in reverse to undo it. Disable your anti-virus and try running the game.

You may also want to run a CPU/GPU and memory test, however any issues with them would have caused a blue screen, crashing the system instead of a single program.

Fully run Windows update and also update your drivers, including the BIOS. Specifically, you’ll want to clean install your graphics drivers and update your network card and sound drivers.

If you have a spare drive, I would start by simply installing Windows 7 and testing a clean installation.

Are GW2 IPs IPv4 or IPv6?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Are you sure you need to allow certain IPs? Does the firewall not allow specific programs through? If you can browse the internet without having to first allow every IP you come across, it must support other kinds of exceptions at least.

Firewalls with IP rules usually begin with either an allow all or block all rule, making it either a blacklist or a whitelist. Is there no option to simply disable that feature? Does allowing an IP also allow all ports on that IP? I’m assuming it supports IP ranges at least, so for example, instead of adding 64.25.47.119, you would add 64.25.0.0 to 64.25.255.255.

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Ensure that your firewall/anti-virus/security software hasn’t blocked Gw2.exe. If the update you downloaded was an update to the launcher, it might have been flagged by your security software. As a simple test, create a folder on your desktop and copy Gw2.exe into that folder and see if it runs (if your security software features a silent/game/automatic mode however, disable it first).

If you have modified your hosts file or are using the -assetsrv command line option, remove those modifications. The IPs of the servers can change, so it’s not a good idea to set it and forget about it. That said, if you’re having troubles connecting to your default asset server, you can try a different one. Right click a GW2 shortcut and select properties. Modify the shortcut’s target like this:

Target: “C:\Example\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 62.154.232.187

Here are some alternate servers you can try:

174.35.52.78
62.154.232.187
151.249.90.138
194.25.94.170
174.35.71.9
151.249.90.199
93.188.135.37
62.154.232.194

You may also want to try using Google’s DNS instead. Don’t use the -assetsrv option however, since it will always take priority. After setting it up, open cmd.exe (search the start menu) and enter the command: ipconfig /flushdns

You can also try running the game on port 80 or 443 by modifying the shortcut like this:

Target: “C:\Example\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -clientport 80

I’m assuming that timed achievement? All you really need to do is pull everything out of that first capture point and stall so it can be quickly completed. For the rest of it, either go full DPS and use LoS to pull everything to one spot and AoE or use invisibility/invulnerability to just steal the item and run.

If you want to “reinstall” the game, simply download Gw2Setup.exe, but don’t run it. In the folder where GW2 is installed, delete everything except Gw2.dat, then move Gw2Setup.exe into that folder and rename it to Gw2.exe. Unless Gw2.dat is heavily corrupted (you would know), there’s really no reason to completely reinstall the game. The only files GW2 needs to run are Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat. Everything else is recreated if it does not exist.

The log file you posted does not contain any crashes from this year. Did the error report window not popup? I’m guessing not if it froze. Try running Gw2.exe directly, without using a shortcut, since I see you are/were using multiple command line parameters.

Also, run a virus scan, but not with Microsoft’s scanner – it’s too simple. I see you also have Malwarebytes? You may also want to look into the file %temp%/MS-March-14.exe, which is set to run on startup, which is suspicious considering it’s in the temporary directory.

Also, you have minor packet loss between your router and your ISP.

In the mean time, you can try deleting the folder %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and the file Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat. This will cause your hardware related settings to reset.

Open “Computer”, right click D: and select properties. Under the tools tab, check the disk for any errors. You could also try copying the folder D:\Guild Wars 2\ to your desktop and try running it from there.

How does gliding feel in HoT?

Of course it will be affected by lag. If it wasn’t, the client would be in full control and that’s when bad things happen – client side hacks.

When you move, your client tells the server and periodically keeps it updated with your location. Meanwhile, the server estimates your location based on your last known direction and speed. If what your client reports isn’t within reason of what the server expects, the result is rubber banding, where the server tells you where you are. If you were slightly out of sync but within acceptable parameters however, the server updates to your new position, which causes everyone else to see you teleport a bit.

With gliding, you’re going to be constantly moving. If you experience lag spikes, you’re going to have hard time. For example, if you’re flying towards something then turn, but lag at the moment, the server might think you’ve hit something or landed, resulting in you falling to your death. If you just have a high latency however, it should be like normal running, but a bit more unstable due to the constant movement. If you simply fly in a straight line however, you should be fine. With a higher latency, you just have to remember that your actions are delayed, so your character is actually slightly ahead of where you think you are.

If you have frequent lag spikes or a 1s+ latency, your problem is going to be deploying the glider. Since you’re given the option to deploy your glider roughly a second after falling, imagine having to wait a second, then another second for the server to know, then another second for the server to let you know that you’re gliding and not falling. Now imagine a lag spike at that moment.

The Battles Are Annoying.

It’s almost like you guys designed the battles for group-play. Wait…YOU DID.

fyi, the instances and their achievements are solo content. If you bring a group, it’s either because you can’t personally handle it or you’re not bothering to understand the mechanics. For example, from what I’ve seen, quite a few people didn’t realize that you can kill the shades.

It sounds like you’re having trouble with the dragon, here’s a video.

For a dungeon oriented war its a disgrace and a sign of noobness to go ranged (in most cases).

You can melee if you want. I’m assuming tendrils? You just have to constantly move, both in and out of melee range in tune with it’s melee swipe and around the enemy to avoid the other tendril’s projectiles.

Before assuming the RAM is simply defective, refer to your motherboard’s manual to determine which slots you should be using. To make things simple, test 1 stick at a time in the first slot, then the other slot. The problem could be with the slot itself.

Run a full memtest, preferably one that’s bootable rather than a program that is executed through Windows.

The achievements related lost any purpose they had when

… groups were allowed to trivialize the encounters.
