Weakness currently stacks in duration, so only 5 stacks would mean it has a duration cap, though additional applications would just overwrite it. Since this doesn’t make sense, they probably changed it to stacking in intensity, like bleeding. That would mean 25% chance to fumble * # of stacks would be a max of 125% chance to fumble.

They don’t intend for you to buy it that way. It’s only there to make it look like the option is available. Giving a token option is what other games typically do to help relieve the failure of RNG. In those other games however, you can usually grind out what you want in a few days at the most.

They probably had more plans but never got around to it. For example, the food was probably originally intended to be crafted (rich coffers claim to contain recipes), using the candy.

Can I use Razer Macro Key for Marriners Horn

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

It’s technically against the rules, but no one really cares. You only really get punished for using macros when you’re caught botting with them, or using them in rated matches (like real tournaments).

Macros

Guild Wars 2 players are permitted to use macros as long as the macros are programmed with a 1 key for 1 function protocol.

  1. This means that if you program a macro, it must require one keystroke per action. You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.
  2. For example, if you Press A and it results in the casting of a single skill, you’re ok. If you Press A and it casts multiple spells, you’re not ok.

Certificate problems with Android Apps

Healix.5819

Whats strange is that these work perfectly on the pc version of the app and I just dont know what could be going wrong.

I’m assuming the “pc version” is basically the same program and not an entirely different one? If your Android device is version 2.2 or below, it doesn’t trust GeoTrust’s certificate. It should however trust their old (Equifax) certificate, in which case ArenaNet could update theirs to point to that one as a workaround (http://www.geocerts.com/support/cross_root).

And here’s a workaround for you:

Download GeoTrust Global CA certificate (or, direct pem link) and place it in your resources.
When creating the HTTPS connection, set it up to trust that CA.

An example can be found in the tutorial (Unknown certificate authority):

Healix.5819

As long as it would give a better reward than doing something else, provide an easier way of getting something or give achievement points, people would complain that they’re being “forced” to grind them. People that like to 100% everything would probably also complain due to the grind.

Hearts (and scouts) were originally added to the game because they found that the typical MMO player was quickly lost due to the lack of quests and clear direction. All zones were originally like Orr and Southsun when it came to hearts. For future zones/expansions, they may drop hearts altogether, but probably not, at least for major expansion zones.

Healix.5819

People are going to AFK it just for the rewards because they can. If they’re going to logout anyways, getting something is better than nothing.

As long as the player doesn’t get killed, they will eventually get kicked after a few minutes for being idle (I encountered this in a 1vs0 match). If they’re killed however, the counter is reset. They could fix this by only teleporting players out of the spawn if they haven’t moved after spawning.

I’ve seen some really bad players playing, so bad I thought they might be bots (commonly running into walls for a few seconds, ignoring enemies, randomly shooting and always running the same path after spawning). These players as well as those that don’t want to “PvP” but want the achievement (for completion) are going to AFK it and hope they win, and they do win, sometimes. After AFK,ing it for a few days, achievement complete.

BTW why cant I type “AFK” without the quotation mark

AFK used to be censored because of the FK.

Any Word On NEW Legendary Skins?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Eventually, there will be new legendaries, but they want to revamp how precursors are acquired first. The first new legendaries are expected to be for the current silly ones (they pointed out the pistol) so that something more legendary is available.

They first mentioned new legendary skins months ago. Don’t expect this to happen anytime soon. Probably not even within 6 months. They’ll probably come with something major, since legendaries shouldn’t just casually be thrown into the game.

The launcher isn’t really helpful in this case since it doesn’t know the size of the file until it begins to download it. The progress bar is only a little helpful since although it might look like you’re almost complete, the larger files might be at that last 1% (the progress is based on # of files downloaded, not size).

The total size of the game is around 16-18 GB, so subtract the size of your gw2.dat file from that, and that’s the size you have remaining.

Coffer vs Rich Coffer Chance Question

in Dragon Bash

Healix.5819

2000 gems would exchange for about 44.97g which would get you about 1606 coffers (2.8s each), or, 2000 gems could get you 25 rich coffers.

I’ve heard of people opening 50+ rich coffers and getting nothing, and I’ve heard of people opening 2000 coffers and getting nothing. I see a lot of people saying they got a ticket in 1000 coffers or less, and personally I’ve gotten 1 ticket in 300. I would say to go with regular coffers and as their price continues to drop, the deal only gets better (1921 @ 2.34s buy order).

Any plans to bring players back to Orr?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Orr was more fun back when I was able to solo things like Grenth and Dwayna, though the reward for doing so wasn’t worth it at all, which is another problem (backwards risk vs reward – solo/small group it, or zerg it and get the same rewards at a fraction of the time). Now, Dwayna requires a groups worth of DPS to get through the healing and Grenth’s after event is just op. I can still pretty much solo Grenth’s boss, but the constant stream of AoEs/marks placed by the adds, which tick instantly, can be very deadly.

The current direction seems to be catered to zerging or, but I doubt this, highly coordinated teams. Southsun events are all pretty zergy, but things like the champion spider in Orr is definitely designed for a large group, since, from what I saw, it doesn’t even give you the chance to stop the adds from spawning (egg sacks like vet spiders).

My best memory of Orr is the first Grenth change, where the vortexes were added. I started Grenth, and around 30 people showed up after a minute in (first time ever being in a Grenth zerg). At around 20%, there was 30 dead bodies, most of which refusing to respawn. I solo’d that last 20%, not killing a single shade, since I also learned at this time that their aura could be evaded. I then proceeded to rez 30 dead bodies.

If you get more than 1 drake on you, you’re going to get stunned and die from confusion (even if you cleanse it they reapply)

Drakes are pretty op, since their confusion puddle that ticks the instant it’s created nearly 1 shots me, but the stun can be completely avoided. The stun comes after the pull, which you should dodge, which comes after the puddle.

API Usage Limits?

in API Development

Healix.5819

Some item data will rarely change, as those items are either buffed, nerfed or fixed. Most items will however never change and remain static for the life of the game. You could either never account for modified items, manually update these items by looking at patch notes or re-lookup item data based on how old that item’s cache is, for example, once a month.

For new items, you just need to pull the list of item IDs and check which IDs you don’t already have cached. You then only request and cache those IDs. No need to start from scratch.

As for how fast to make requests, make it simple, do 1 thread with a 0s delay. If they ever enforce a limit, it probably wouldn’t matter how fast you make calls, but rather how many you’ve made recently, for example a limit of 1000 requests per hour. If they ever did limit it, you’d basically just have to watch out for timed out or bad responses and delay for X minutes. Other parts of the GW2 site are limited for example, where after 10 or so requests, you start to get internal server errors. Both the leaderboards and the trading post (when selling) do this for example.

Also, SQLite for an easy way to cache using a database.

API Usage Limits?

in API Development

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

You should be caching all items and recipes. You only need to use the API when you’re initially building the cache and when new items/recipes are added, which you could check once a day or week. The cache should be packaged with your app so the user doesn’t have to take the time to build it themselves.

The once every 30 seconds was simply a suggestion on how often to lookup an event. 30s is about 3x too long though, since some events can come and go that quickly.

There is no actual limit though. For example, when I build my item cache from scratch, I do about 130 calls per second. For events, I’ve been doing 23 per second for the last few weeks.

do u want 5/46 dailies everyday?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If they gave you that many dailies to choose from, there’d only be more complaining. All those people that think they have to do 100% of the dailies would complain about being forced to do all those dailies to stay on top of the leaderboards.

The other group of people that want easier dailies basically want “Daily task: Logged in 1/1” to be their daily. One of the goals for dailies was to spread people out into the world, which is why you can’t just do one thing to complete them all. Right now, completing the daily is as easy as doing just a few dragon events.

(achievement) Secret of Southsun

At this time, you are not able to obtain any achievements related to removed content. The achievements that are tied to objectives that still exist however can still be completed, such as eating a karka omelet.

In the future, they might replay some of the stories, since it’s possible that they could happen again, but even then, they would probably be counted as a new living story, leaving you unable to get the older achievements. For example, they could easily get the dredge and flame legion back together for a flame & frost part 2, or make a new karka king to destroy and reset southsun cove.

Do you use macros?

“Thanks to the support of the SteelSeries Engine software, you can record even extremely long and advanced macros to the Guild Wars 2 Gaming Mouse. "

Not allowed? They’re advertising it. I just don’t really see any good uses for it tbh. I’m just wondering what everyone thinks.

SteelSeries is advertising it, not ArenaNet, but since it’s an official mouse, that does mean ArenaNet has to deal with it. However, the section on macros ends with a statement that you should follow any games rules and that they are only providing the ability to use macros. They don’t actually say to use them in-game.

The official rule is

Macros

Guild Wars 2 players are permitted to use macros as long as the macros are programmed with a 1 key for 1 function protocol.

Really, you could optimize an event list in a known chain [A,B,C] and if [A] is in ‘Warmup" or “Preparation” or “Active”, you don’t need to call events [B,C] until A reads “Success”, depending on how you’re programming it.

You also need to factor in the previous state, since every event is a little different. For example, some events progress from active to warmup instead of success and some events will progress to preparation once their chain starts, while some change to warmup and others don’t change at all.

To actually know if an event was completed for example, you need to look for an active event that is no longer active. To check if it was completed successfully or not, you need to check for a failed condition or if the chained fail event is starting. In cases where the event actually failed, but the state progressed to warmup and the fail event is in warmup, it’s practically a guess unless you watch that event for the next few minutes to see if it becomes active.

DR broken again?

Event DR is for the most part, rare. From what I’ve heard, it can encountered quickly by basically tagging events and running, completing multiple events within a few minutes. I’ve also heard of people getting DR after circling the same few events over several hours.

DR probably factors in areas on the map, so by running around southsun, you’d be increasing your DR counter in different places, making it hard to encounter.

One of the groups that may spawn contains 2 wolves. This type of wolf has an attack where they leap and bite that deals heavy damage. The leap isn’t very far, just a little bit more than melee range. Since there’s 2 of them, if both successfully hit you, it will deal enough damage to almost instantly kill a lesser defensive player (like an elementalist). The leap will be one of the first attacks they do, so don’t stand in melee range until after they’ve done it.

Lower the bet in Moa Racing to 10 silver

in Dragon Bash

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

They can’t really change it now without upsetting people, since doing so would lessen the value of existing vouchers and the price of the moa.

They could still reduce the price however by providing different options. For example, a 20s bet could get you 3 vouchers for 1st place and 1 for 2nd or a_ 5s bet could get you 1 for 1st place. This would have been better if it was done from the begging however, where if the bet was 10 instead of 50, a 50s bet would now get you 5x the winnings.

If I could change it, I would:

- Free for all, every man for himself
- 5 players total, unless you want chaos
- Random spawn points throughout the map (around 10 or so), no safe zone
- 3s respawn delay
- 1 coffer rewarded for every 2 minutes of active participation (must attack)
- 3, 2, 1 bonus coffers for being 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1 candy for the rest

Constant action, more rewarding and more fun. Players that find themselves terrible at playing it would probably have a hard time with the achievement though, even though there would be a little randomness to winning, since everyone could easily gang up on who was/is winning along with kill stealing. To make it easier though, assuming these achievements are meant to be casual, I’d count 1st, 2nd and 3rd as winning.

Lastly, for those wanting to play with friends, there’d be a “Team Deathmatch” mode, which would be as it is now with the addition of coffers over time. Teams must enter as a group of 5.

Once you start paying more than $10 for a skin, something’s wrong. What makes it even worse is that if you want something like double dagger skins, the price to do so is much higher than just a single greatsword. The skin should be an unlock for your account, not just a single use.

At the very least, they should straight up tell you the odds of getting each item.

When they were originally marketing the game, this was a core feature, where in other MMOs nothing you did mattered (referencing quests where you do something, then someone comes along and does the same thing as if you never did it).

In order to rerun the original event, they would first have to create an event where the karka win, causing everything that was built to be destroyed. Then they could start over, recolonizing the island from scratch.

The change didn’t affect anyone viewing their page. You can still just open 3 browser windows for your 3 servers.

What they did was add a line of code into the page that prevents the timers from loading if the page is embedded within another page. Their reason was that someone was embedding their page and spam refreshing it, causing it to reload all the resources (scripts and images) over and over, which is a waste of bandwidth. The change however does not stop those resources from loading, just the timers, so if they’re still spamming, their still reloading all the scripts. The person probably stopped however, since there’s no point in loading empty timers.

Metaevent API request

Basically, it’s the same thing as opening 3 windows and positioning them on top of each other so you can see all 3 at once. The original jsfiddle example was just that, 1 or more of the pages in frames on top of each other. But since they disabled that ability, that’s no longer possible.

With the workaround, the difference is that it is a cache of the page (without map functionality) as it is right now, so if they change the look of gw2stuff tomorrow, the cache won’t change with it. If they completely change the way timers work though, the cache will no longer work, at which point I can just generated another cache. The only bonus, besides now having to open 3 windows, is that you’re not downloading everything 3 times, since all the extra stuff like images is part of the cache.
