if COF1 takes you more than 7 minutes, you must think seriously how are you playing.
not everyone is a cof farmer. cof money to me is chump change as my source of income.
My advice would be to do the exact same on the New York stock exchange, make a nice profit, take your significant other out for diner and use the spare cash to buy gems. The rules are about the same, it’s just the pay-out that’s slightly different.
Think about it. Flipping requires you to monitor a lot of prices 24 hours out of 24. Would you rather get rich in game or IRL out of perfecting that hobby?
Stock market isn’t as simple as the TP… LOL….
The point is that people are paying $45 on average for an average chance at something, or they could become the outlier and spend $200 and not get the kitten thing. lol
So lets check on my playing history. Played for 2 months from launch, and quit for a long time. just got back 2 months ago. Before I left, I had about 8 gold. I earned a little more doing all the normal stuffs, no COF runs/farm. However, I needed gold, so I found ways. Now in 2 months, I am sitting on 460 gold… just saying…
I want to be a warrior, not some pseudo Guardian.
Lets see, I hate Dungeons, despise Fractals, and WvWvW is a money sink, so how exactly am I supposed to acquire all this wealth? Between buying gems, and trying to kit out my toons, I’m lucky if I have 2 gold spare.
No offense, in every game with dungeons/end game instances that has always been the superior way to generate wealth. If you aren’t interested in doing those things, that’s cool, but don’t expect to be as wealthy as someone who does.
I am a lawyer and I make a good salary. I could have made a better salary if I chose to be an i-banker instead. There are a list of things I could have that I’d like if I was an i-banker. But since I don’t enjoy i-banking I don’t covet the things i-banking would bring me. Your problem, as I see it, you don’t like dungeons yet you covet the spoils of running dungeons.
relax, you will burnt out from i-banking anyway… or if you stayed you wouldnt be playing this game hahahaha.
Gold isn’t necessarily the best measure. After all, Gold is just a commodity in the same way Mithril and Logs of Green Wood are a commodity. Sure, it is the one commodity used to trade, but it is still not good enough a currency to determine how complicated something is to get.
Realistically, we should measure a precursor in playing time. How many hours of playing the game directly in pursuit of the precursor do you need to get it.
Maybe you can earn 500g faster today than you could earn 300g a few month back. Then a precursor is easier to get now, even if you pay more gold for it.
in the same way the stable prices are meaningless, because the ability to farm X gold per hour was definitely not a constant over the past months.
In the end, it does not matter if John Smith says an increased drop rate would increase price. It does not matter to look at spidy graphs. There is only one question: is the current precursor system an efficient tool of player motivation? After reading forums since release, it is pretty clear to me that while it can motivate some player, a majority seems to be rather turned off by it. Hence a change to the system is already announced.
Lol, that is inflation and deflation. Part of the system.
Test is over, now ascended crafting materials are time gated LOL.
You’re wrong though. I’m fine with Ascended gear being time gated because you can still forge a single piece each day. This is different, because the pieces of gear aren’t time gated, the actual materials are.
You sure it is not the materials that are time gated?
Test is over, now ascended crafting materials are time gated LOL.
I’ve been doing this since launch because once you hit 80 waypointing across the map can get pricey. Especially if you are jumping from end to end for events or have multiple characters.
I’ll go to mists -> LA -> Capital in region I am going to -> WP to where in the region I need to go.
I load pretty fast. 3-5 seconds. So the screens don’t bother me more than the spending X silver to go help a guild mate with a story, X more to get to an Orr temple, X more to do Tequatl, X more for daily zone, X more to get to LA for NPCs. It may not seem like much but it adds up. Unless its substantial jaunt, I don’t WP within zones either; I equip a movement signet and hoof it (faster than a centaur).
Guild waypoint buffs are nice. Also, vote for Kiel!
As a side note, does anyone live anywhere with speed passes for toll roads? That would be a nice account item to have next to infinite harvesting tools and salvage kits. For 25s or so every month you can WP all you want at no charge. Would be a nice thing for people have on their mains that see the most WPs and pay the most in tolls.
What is your system spec, you can load LA in 3 to 5 seconds? like in highly populated server?
Any item that does not actually effect your stats should be FAIR game and requires no regulation.
How these items are “generated” can be regulated to control their “rarity” within the game world.
ALL vanity items should not be easily available to everyone (at least not at first).
Now in this particular instance it is worrying that these new skins are “buy” items with an unknown price tag…..but you can’t blame Anet for wanting to make money.
Let’s be honest. This is a virtual casino, and the house always win. Win everything actually, since it is a digital item hahah
$1 per key… haha… total rip off
bid isn’t really a good proxy for demand in this game. lol…. due to fake bids.
$1 dollar per key LOL. i do buy gems. full expanded inventory space for 3 characters + bank slots + 3 additional character slot worth of gems. BUT 1 dollar per key, ya right, I ain’t stupid enough to throw money away at that kind of drop rate.
SHRINKING BORDER, if you stay in inside. YOUR COLLAR EXPLODES! battle royale style
I am wondering about various different gold earning method. Let it be COF p1, TP flipping, world bosses, etc.
What do you consider is a good rate of gold earning per months while having some fun. Consider that you play 4 to 5 hours a day. Also, do take into account I am asking about normal amount of farming, not excessive 4 to 5 hours only COF p1 (that will bore most people to tears)
Just answer from your experience or what you see your friends can pull off.
it is a test of the new system basically.
PVT armor and rush! and kill all JQs, biggest troll ever. Good they are not matched with BG anymore. All they do is camp JP, no wonder they lost. trololololol
Depending how badly time gated materials will be, and how many Ectos required per pieces. You will have your answer. COF Farm is not a big source of Ectos compare to World Bosses. However, the new changes might push people to do World Bosses, since they did mentioned some of the time gated materials can come from World Bosses chest. That will cause an increase in rares, thus Ectos supply
Lack of Class Balance.. and they want to go E sport with this. hahah too funny.
how about some gameplay addition, beside the living story……
We’ve seen before that at certain points in certain markets, changes to the supply side of the equation has resulted in an effect that is opposite of what was expected. We noticed that shifting the supply side equation caused the demand side of the market to shift even further. As people see the changes in the game many of them decide to enter the market.
Do you have any examples of this that you’re willing to talk about publicly? The only one I know of on record is where you offered up Powerful Blood going up in price at the same time that you increased the drop rate from bags – except you also nuked the dust supply from orbit that same patch. Are there better examples of this where there aren’t lots of moving parts?
Also, how well does this sustain; I’d expect there to be a lot of bubble activity around any change as people speculate but that shouldn’t affect long term prices.
1. Surely my Harvard Economics Prof would disagree. Pretty sure he would say an increase in “drop rate” or aka production efficiency is a shock to the supply curve and causing it to shift downwards.
2. Just trying to say price elasticity plays a big factor. Of course, you can sprinkle marketing etc. However, most of these Trading posts items are like commodities. Legendary, you are thinking of more precious metal.
3. So that is what your graphs mean.
4. Everything we are talking about here is just general guidelines. Until empirical evidences can show the actual result, nothing is proven. However, my goal is split up the effect of increased supply -> lower price, and the effect other things (see below).
This is a virtual economy. Much more simple than the ones I deal with in my work everyday. You as developer has the ability to influence the market quite significantly, but for the benefit of all players you should try to analyze each factors and their effect, and not compound them together and say a blanket statement that “increase drop will increase price.”
Finally, you are probably looking at your database and say “hey it looks like as more precursor drops, price actually goes up!” You are forgetting as your game’s community mature, more people got nothing to do but to go for a legendary. This is fundamental demand change, and not a supply effect. You are forgetting a time factor, and now we are entering the world of 3d graphing and advanced economics theories.
P.S. markets fluctuate, therefore your items price will fluctuate.

Whilst I understand the points you’re trying to make I think they are completely wrong, particularly your claims about WvW rank abilities.
I play a great deal of WvW and am in a large WvW guild that have played on European servers and now play on a T1 US server. I have yet to see a single person discriminate against someone based upon WvW rank abilities and if I did I would suspect they were an idiot or someone who had never entered WvW. Whilst I have seen people ask others if they will let them on to say an arrow cart or treb since they have maxed mastery this has always been done respectfully and without being forced on them, conversely I have also seen maxed rank people asked if they would swap off a piece of siege when they couldn’t hit the proverbial barn door in favour of someone without ranks who did know how to use them.
I have yet to see anyone asked to leave a border because they are low rank. I have on the other hand seen pug’s insulting high rank commanders who have put a lot of gold and time into WvW simply because they thought they knew better.
If your having these problems in WvW I suggest try a server where everyone isn’t stupid and inconsiderate.
As for changing achievement bonuses and giving them to new players instead I find this complaint bizarre. Would you also give them a ton of gold, exotics armour and weapons, ascended accessories and a legendary at character creation since they need these? The bonuses are rewards for what you have achieved. How exactly is this a slap in the face for a new player rather than something for them to strive for?
but some commander got serious attitude issues lol. we need a Rep/review system for commanders.
Ascended Armor isn’t exclusive to crafting.
So, where do we get it else where?
This new tier of crafting material, along with the new guaranteed material rewards mentioned earlier and some other materials we’ll introduce will be used to craft ascended weapons, armor, and more. These weapons and armor will also be able to be found as rare drops from locations in the world. Ascended weapons and armor will remain account-bound like other ascended gear.
There you go
so basically same thing as right now. except, it is going to be as rare as precursor LOL
that is indeed interesting. those GS is about as big as a pole arm lol…. it better have a good reach
Like you can switch out some of the attacks out for another set of attacks for the same weapon? That way people cannot just tell, “OH LOOK, hammer warrior! I know exactly what it can do.”
torch for warrior…
skill 1: Burn
skill 2: burn more
skill 3: burn area
skill 4: throw torch
skill 5: what a lame skill set
I hope the thief get finally his perma +25% movement speed trait.
The thief should be a very fast class but every warrior with “Warrior’s Sprint” is faster. Also the big delay of 1-2 sec between the secound and third dodge with Feline Grace is really to long for a simple dodge.
they have a signet for that. most mobile class why, rationalization? even you just think logically, warrior is probably very fit as well.
(edited by Hell Avenger.7021)
I hope they don’t add greatsword to elementalist.
Greatsword is a powerful melee weapon and also dangerous to use for a cloth user. Mesmer using one is almost bad enough.
Did you know Elementalists already have a greatsword?
It’s called conjure fiery greatsword. Note the word greatsword.
If that elite was trashed and simply made into a weapon set. I would like my elementalist a lot more than I do now.
Yes, I knew every much of the conjure utilities, and I still think it’s fail that cloth professions should be running around with a greatsword.
it just highlights some of the weapon skins are not so good.
wow, then give scepters to warriors please. End of the day, we all can use all weapons but with different skill trees. a little lame, no uniqueness to each class
lol… people does not study economics… Increase supply does not necessary affect demand, unless you talking about less prestige (that would actually lower demand)
Increase supply has an effect on price, lower prices. However, lower prices meet higher level demand due to affordability. You will not see people trying to outbid each other for more available products.
Anyway… this thread is just…. LOL
Btw John, this is a supply curve shock, and not a price shock. It is a movement of the whole supply curve and not movement on the curve. That graphs don’t apply.
1. It would be a shift, not a shock.
2. Shifts in supply always affect demand, just the degree with the change is relative to the individual market and the current state of the market. This is even more emphasized in a virtual economy.
3. The graph applies perfectly, though I do apologize for the confusing appearance, I just wanted to get up an idea of the shape quick and dirty.
4. “You will not see people trying to outbid each other for more available products.” this statement in not true at this point in the market, which is the point I was trying to make.
1. A shock to the supply curve is a shift in the supply curve. (Making the same point here) Movement along the supply curve, is when you decrease the price of the product.
2) You trying to touch upon “Demand Curve Elasticity.” Using graphing terminology, it depends on the slope of the demand curve.
3) That Sine graph is interesting, but it lacks a demand curve. Also, dues to axis labelling, it is very confusing to read.
4) The statement is true. People trying to outbid is because price is going down, and it unlocks people from going to totally unaffordable to reasonably affordable. Think it this way, I lower Ferrari price to 40k and increase production, you will see a lot more demand. The reason is the price elasticity of the demand.
(edited by Hell Avenger.7021)
WVW is big part of the game, and it needs some serious optimization.

welcome the change, but please refund and compensate for people’s loss.
that is an abusive behavior, report them.
wow… I was thinking of upgrading. If your system cannot get above 30 fps… I dont know if I should upgrade then.
You have quite a few important and interesting characters in GW2 that you can slowly develop to help change the world. Characters need to be important and memorable. They need to feel emotion. Make us fall in love with them and kill them. Make us hate them for burning a major city.
Please try to step away from the monthly Scooby-Doo villain design.
exactly, these short snippets of temp updates are so childish in design. The story aren’t compelling at all, and they hope to attract people affection for them. People do it, because it will be gone in 2 weeks. it does not translate into being fun.
Speak for yourself, cause I (and many others) like the temp updates.
Speaking for yourself, goes for you too. lol

What kills me is how they’re apparently so terrified of giving warrior any meaningful buffs, as if it’s something that can never be reversed. They sit and they say, “Warrior will be OP!” Meanwhile, they just admitted that they’ve made necros OP with the last patch, and already have plans on fixing it. So why can’t they take a risk with warrior? So what if it’s OP for a couple of weeks – apparently that’s already okay for every other class.
There seems to be different treatment for warrior balance and other classes’ balance.
Warrior balances feel like an afterthought
SIMPLE SOLUTION, make the spawn area bigger. the area is too small and too easy to promote this type of spawn camping
Hey Everyone!
I’ve been playing around with Berserker gear for a while now and have 44% chance to do crit dmg and 71% crit bonus damage.
The base damage for my whirling wrath and shield of wrath are 2,484 and 1100 respectively.
I have watched a lot of guardian dps wvwvw roaming videos and I consistently see people hitting for 6000-9000 dmg . Someone even did 9000 dmg with the explosion from Shield of Wrath.
My problem is .. While roaming around in Orr, I can’t even reach up to 5,000 dmg neither with Whirling Wrath nor Shield of Wrath.
Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong? Was there a nerf?
P.S. What is “Blast”?
Thanks!
Link to someone who hits really hard.

wow… 9k damage with Guardian. Warrior cannot hardly get that, and with zero guardian’s sustain level…. talk about balance
Diden’t know I could buy toys for gems suddenly 1600 gems is bought
go buy the flute, the flying brooms
I’ll try to explain. Warren buffet says he can “guarantee” 50% annual investment return if he “only” have 1 million dollar. But the reality is he only have 20% yearly return for his company.
It is easy to get 15-25% return if you only have small capital. But if you meant to tell me you still get 15-25% return with 10,000+ capital, it is highly unlikely.
Finding 20-30 items with 15% return is possible. But finding like 1000 item with that kind of return isn’t easy. There isn’t even that many items.
That is why Small Cap funds get capped eventually. Get too big, you become the market and you cannot profit from the mispricing. I work in an investment firm.
If you add something significant to the game through these patches, it’s going to feel like an expansion, and nobody is gonna care how it was delivered.
Anet tends to do things differently… so get used to it.
so far nothing, but tiny updates.
Seriously, look at your own TPVP ladder and stats. What a joke.
ANet seriously, and you want to have a competitive scene and a league? Just one class, ONE, and still no balanced.
People cannot be caught dead with a warrior in their team in TPVP, and you think this is ok?
Get you act together!
We are not asking to be OP, we just want to have an average chance of winning.
(edited by Hell Avenger.7021)
Oh ya, poor quality contents makes people leave. People need coherent story campaign, not incoherent tiny updates.
And if they will decide to do Cantha and Elona in pieces do you really think that it would be poor quality content?
With the current showing. Yes.
hey why not, but Anet want to sell toys on the Gem shop LOL
except they will do it over 2 years, on biweekly basis.
Ok, this two weeks you get an introduction, next two weeks you get a map, next two weeks you get another crap, next two weeks, maybe another map?Meanwhile, more players leave
So players leave even though they’re provided with free content that they couldn’t possibly exhaust as fast as it’s being made? GW2 players seem to be more needy than any other MMO player.
Oh ya, poor quality contents makes people leave. People need coherent story campaign, not incoherent tiny updates.
I have friends who stuck it out from Beta. (I am from Beta, but I took 6 months absence due to boredom), he has all 8 classes at level 80 with 8k + achievement points. He is already bored of this game, and waiting for an expansion pack. Else he will leave. He and I are already poking around, for example Secret World?
Worst of all, Anet think revenue from RNG boxes = People loving the contents. Hilarious.
