HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

The “bundle” is just Anet trying to pretend they’re not charging $50 for something worth, at best, half that.
Nobody wants difficult content in an MMO for its own sake, this is entirely the wrong genre for that.
Not to mention we aren’t even evaluating this expansion based on known content, because we simply do not actually know the extent of content we’ll actually be receiving. We’re simply speculating..
That’s… the problem, basically. It’s been over 6 months since HoT was announced and we still know virtually nothing about the actual meat of the expansion. There’s also the fact that most MMO expansions offer a lot more than HoT seems to be (we’re not even getting a new playable race).
That aside, I hate staff thief because the lack of ranged options is why I hate playing as a thief, and I was hoping the elite spec would address that (especially since the guardian’s was explicitly designed to address the same problem).
The problem with “challenge” in MMOs is manyfold.
For starters, “challenging” to who? Content designed to challenge the average player would still be whined about by the crazy kittens who run Arah solo for fun, and content aimed at them would be literally impossible for the vast majority of the playerbase (ask Wildstar how successful that business plan is!).
Another problem is that “challenge” is fleeting. Once you’ve done something a couple of times, it’s not difficult any more, you figure out the most efficient way to complete it, and we’re back to square one. The game is littered with content originally designed to be challenging, from explorable dungeons to Tequatl to the triple wurm to Aetherpath to high-level fractals, and look what people becoming experienced did for them.
4500g is not out of reach, that is the cost of buying two cheap legendaries
Did this person just say “it’s only the price of two of the most expensive items in the game put together” like this is supposed to be some trivial cost, or am I missing something? Because the sheer lack of perspective here is unbelievable.
If a full server is full, you shouldn’t be able to get in. That’s what “full” means.
Anet’s not forcing anyone to do anything. All they did was close the loopholes.
Which is why Aetherpath is the most popular dungeon path in the game, right?
I don’t see this working out well for the game at all. There are a few options here:
1. The content is actually challenging, but the loot isn’t great so people stop doing it
2. The content isn’t challenging and the loot isn’t great so it won’t get used much.
3. The content is challenging and the loot is awesome, they will alienate a good portion of their playerbase
4. The content isn’t challenging and the loot is awesome, it will be speed run farmed.
You forgot #5: the content is challenging… for a few weeks/months before people figure out how best to farm it and they start crying for more.
“challenge” is nothing more than a stalking horse for “I want better rewards than the unwashed masses”.
I understand that this was a feature of GW1, which is why a lot of people ask for it. GW1 was designed with this feature from the start, but also had far less weapons in total and fewer weapons released outside of expansions. I wasn’t able to calculate total unique weapon skins in GW1 due to some repetition, but it’s quite apparent that there are far fewer than the total of 2,004 that are currently present in GW2. (Here’s the list of weapon skins from GW1: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Category:Weapons_by_family)
And even then, most of the weapons in GW1 that were dyeable were only so in a technical sense: the dye would only affect the wrapping on the hilt or something similarly trivial.
I hate the way female humanoids wield greatswords. I wish they’d do it more like the males do, or sling them over their shoulders like asura, or something.
i really hope they DONT re-add them,
it would totally ruin the prestige, not to mention the market.i like that there are actually some rare items in this game,
weapons that are supposed to be special like Eternity are all over the place.
tl;dr “kitten you got mine”.
There is no “prestige” in items that were distributed by RNG.
And where do you get this info that there wont be completion like that in the jungle? again what we see is a beta, and is supposed 25% of one of the jungle maps, so would be pretty pointless to implement such a thing yet, as you wouldn’t be able to get close to even 100% of one map let alone the whole jungle, and it would likely distract ppl from doing what they actually want us to test
Well, none of the other maps they’ve added have counted towards map completion in any way for starters.
This drives me kittening insane. Gw2 is like buying a season pass. The money you pay for this expansion is your season ticket for the entire season 3 and i think even 4 living world, and everything coming with that.
Literally the point of an expansion is to provide a large amount of new content right then and there, not content they’ll maybe add someday in the future perhaps.
I like the density, it means you can’t just run past everything (a major issue with other maps). You feel like you’re carving through and the way back is being swallowed up behind you, also fewer WPs bring some danger and tension in.
I too liked pre-nerf Orr /sarcasm
The only part of the Stalwart set currently obtainable is the chest. The rest was only available via PVP or achievement chest skin boxes, and neither is possible any more.
I know your pain, though, the shoulders are the only part of that set I don’t have. I hope they toss Stalwart, Tribal, Apostle, and so on into the loot tables for HoT or something.
I’d have bought a set of infinite tools if I could just spawn infinite copies of them for all 28 of my characters to equip (Also, the Salvage-O-Matic should be able to do this too), but Anet can’t stop huntin’ them whales.
More than one map in expansion confirmed

For the price there charging,it better have a ton of maps and content.
What are you guys expecting anyways?
An amount of content that justifies the hefty price tag, for one.
The whole reason people wanted an expansion in the first place was because they thought it would give us a massive chunk of new content (which is traditionally what expansions are for), instead of the tiny scraps of content the living story was providing.
I love how every time someone tries to suggest a “solution”, it’s wildly overcomplicated and more of a nuisance than the thing it’s trying to fix.
Healing is awfully broke! this shouldn’t even be a question at this point.
I remember GW healing regen that could buff characters crazily, insta full heals (almost at least) and many other great buffs. GW didn’t have a stat system the same way, nonetheless powerful heals or high defence and so on, and players still killed players, monsters still killed players.Healing revamp is needed, sorely so!
On the other hand, GW1’s healing system allowed things like 55 monks to exist, and I think Anet is rightfully afraid of creating another such monster.
She’s a lot more than just a lesbian.
Yeah, she’s also a better mesmer than your character in every possible way. I wish I could ground target portals, blink across gaps, and create 4+ clones at a time!
Also, Marjory and Kasmeer’s relationship is super ham-handed (even leaving aside the whole “starting a relationship with someone while being the only thing between them and homelessness” aspect), to the point that Logan’s pining for Jennah (something that’s been relentlessly mocked by the playerbase, and rightly so) looks downright nuanced in comparison.
world bosses were more fun before megaserver garbage made every event a 1 spam zergfest
Server-specific trains run by local commanders weren’t functionally any different (and a lot less forgiving, since back then it was mostly “run with the train or miss out” on most bosses).
eh, i like how exclusive they are. more tournaments would be nice for more tickets.
There haven’t been any more tournaments, that’s the problem. The whole weapon set is inaccessible.
Who wants a useful warhorn though? Most boring weapon in the game.
Spoken like someone who doesn’t own a SAB horn.
Dry top requires numbers of players doing the content or it doesn’t reward anything.
Which is already starting to be a problem, and will only get worse once HoT comes out and divides the population even more.
I’ve got a ton of bandit crests I have no use for, and need a ton of geodes but can’t stand the way Dry Top rewards are handed out (ie, like every event was a Silverwastes defense event, without the Vinewrath to dole out the good stuff), this would be very helpful indeed.
What is the friggen point of those extractors if they cost more than buying a new sigil?! Is it just a scam to get not-so-knowledgeable people spending money to buy gems? This is ridiculous.
They’re for things like infusions in ascended gear.

OP you are lucky.
I main a necro, so right now, no matter if the dervish is op or not,
Damage? Not Necro.
Tanking? Not necro.
Single-Target? Not Necro.
Multi-Target? Not necro (but not so bad either)
More energy? Not Necro.
PVE kings? Not Necro.
PVP usability? Not Necro.
Knock knock, who’s there?- Necro – Sorry, no necros allowed in the party.
The only advantage to playing these sun-forgotten special snowflakes is looking cool.
Necros were basically gods in GW1 though.
I think dodging should be more like Wildstar. You move quickly out of the way, but there is no invulnerability. That actually rewards skill.
There’s no point in having a dodge mechanic if you just eat the damage regardless.
That’s one thing a lot of games need to learn from GW2. Monster Hunter and its competitors have always been really bad about it, in particular.
If you can’t be bothered to do three whole things in an entire day, quite frankly you don’t deserve the achievement points.
Liadri… a faceroll…. wow just… wow.
I guess they’re talking about the lifesteal method since she wasn’t really significantly changed beyond that (and that was eventually fixed). Either that or that the new arena didn’t mess with your camera as badly. Neither of those are really a “nerf” though.
Also there was at least one huge issue with Liadri they never fixed, her attacks insta-killed ranger pets (and presumably all summons as well) since they couldn’t dodge at all.
The infinite tools really should be an account unlock you can spawn as many of as you want, but then Anet would lose the sweet, sweet whale money from the fools willing to buy a set for every character so obviously we can’t have any of that.
I would have gone for Rev being OP and got people all hype to pre-order. I don’t remember feeling like any of the classes I played in the original weekend events 3 years ago feeling sub-par. Oh well. I didn’t pre-order because I haven’t seen enough of what’s on offer to warrant it. I’d say it’s disappointing but this seems to be how things go these days in Tyria.
Yeah, that struck me during the portal beta. I expected the Revenant to be crazy OP at first, like paragons and dervishes were the first time we got our hands on them in GW1.

I’m legitimately a little bit worried that HoT is going to be a catastrophe for Anet.
The playerbase has been desperate for new content for a very long time. When people think “expansion”, they think “lots of new content”. When they think “expansion for GW2” specifically, the unspoken assumption is “Anet made Factions and Nightfall for GW1*, so of course a GW2 expansion would be of similar scale”. Anet seems to have no desire/ability to deliver on this, and that’s a recipe for disaster. A lot of people, even many of the current white knights, are going to react very badly if HoT really is as bare-bones as it currently looks.
*They’re not technically expansions, but that’s how they were perceived.
No they should not. It would be worth less than 10g instead of 2000g like mini tequatl.
And this is bad… because?
They really ought to add those minis into the karka queen’s loot table or something.
Also, they removed the portal to Lornar’s Pass for some reason…
There is still a portal to Lornars Pass.
Did they move it? The portal south of where the guild place is now isn’t there any more, and the portal south of the priory in the Lornar’s side is gone too.
I’m pretty sure there’s a Mordrem category, it just doesn’t (currently?) have an associated achievement track for killing them.
Ruined LA was the best, banks and black lion traders and crafting stations everywhere. I don’t know why they made it so much less convenient now.
Also, they removed the portal to Lornar’s Pass for some reason, and didn’t bother reinstating the northeast exit to Gendarran either.
I do wish they’d make the fall damage reduction baseline, since most of the traits are in really awkward places these days.
I feel like Anet should consider disabling one side of the meta event and seeing if that works, since it’s always felt to me like some sort of technical conflicts between the two events chains is the ultimate source of the issues.
GW1 had AI that avoided AoE, and guess what happened? Pulsing AoE skills were useless in PvE and people would flame you for using them.
Meanwhile, direct damage AOE (that the AI didn’t recognize because reasons) became king, and the thousand year rule of the necromancer began.
Seriously, though, that sort of AOE avoidance would really screw over a lot of weapons, skills, and traits.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a greater variety of skin colors for asura, though. It’s all greys and browns with them, I’d like to see a proper white and some more shades of blue at least.
Yeah, I don’t really know what Anet’s thinking, I can’t think of anything a melee staff would offer that none of the existing weapons do.
Especially when thieves are really hurting for a good ranged weapon (pistols are garbage and shortbow’s not much better, and neither exceeds 900 range), even more than guardians, whose elite spec was literally “here’s a ranged weapon that doesn’t suck”.

The problem with most offhands (especially shields) is that they’re balanced for use against other players, so they have ridiculously short durations and enormous recharges on their skills.
Destroyed LA was far more convenient than the old or the new one. I don’t know why they got rid of all the banks (also, they should reinstate that portal to Lornar’s in the east. And the second entrance to Gendarran in the northeast that got closed back when the invasion happened, while I’m at it)
Yeah, the lodestone disparity is absurd (especially when you take Piles of essence into account, which the game considers a kind of lodestone).

The expansion is just $50, that is very cheap for a free to play MMO.
Eye of the North was like $30.
$50 is full-sized campaign money, what Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall cost. And each of those included a full continent worth of content!
It’s less that the skin color is changing, and more that there’s something weird going on with the lighting in the little box portraits (and only for human and norn, for some reason).
There’s no way they saw this coming. They couldn’t have derailed the hype train for HoT harder if they’d tried, and literally in the middle of trying to promote it!
It doesn’t help that from the little information we’ve got, HoT feels like a living story season welded to a feature pack and sold at a huge markup.

Time to empty your wallets or move on to your next game!
I’d prefer the elephant in the room you’re studiously ignoring: the GW1 model, where $50 got you a whole continent worth of content comparable in size to the original game.
