I really miss old style of tradin

Spamadan was horrible and I don’t miss it.

That said, I do think it is too transparent. Like when they destroyed LA, which was a banking/crafting/trading hub, and instantly put up an expensive temporary item on the gem store which allowed easy access to the very amenities that the LA destruction – surprise surprise – removed. It felt to me like the paper-thin story was the vehicle for the real content which was the gem store promotion.

It is a subscription model, just of a different kind. If I couldn’t convert gems into gold, I would rarely buy them at all.

Except one could argue that every capitol city has the same amenities that LA had. In fact, I find DR to be even more convenient than LA ever was. So I don’t really feel the destruction of LA and releasing an item that ports you to a convenient area as being that much of a driving force to the gem store.

Didn’t the royal terrace come out before the destruction of LA? For some reason I thought it did, which would make this all moot.

When LA was being destroyed, Vigil Keep had everything LA had except crafting stations, iirc (and you could easily go through a town portal for those).

And the Royal Terrace was already a thing long before that.

First off, some traits are linked to very specific events which are actually almost invisible to new players unless they google for it. There are not even map markers which might give you a hint about obtaining certain traits on the zone.

For the record, if you click on the telescope icon next to the locked traits, it will show you where you need to go.

Not this again.

That’s all well and good if you just want a legendary and don’t care which one, or happen to really like Rodgort, Frenzy, or Kraitkin.

But most people want the ones for the weapons they actually use, and you know that kitten well.

I hate to break this to you, but if they were armor skins they wouldn’t work the way you (and everyone else who makes this topic) think they would. The armor weights are incompatible, so either they’d have to make three versions of the same set (sold seperately for 800 gems apiece, like the existing armor sets) or they’d lock each outfit skin to a single armor weight.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hyper Cutter.9376

After leveling a post feature patch character, the only changes I think the trait system needs are to remove trait unlocks from the wubwub and to make sure all the associated events work properly and happen often.

It’s way less obnoxious than elite skills were in GW1, the traits all come from zones about the level each trait tier is unlocked, and a lot of the requirements are things you should be doing anyway (like map completion).

Welding Torch disappointment

Is it too hopeful that this means they’re actually working on weapon set proliferation? Marjory (the second necro to get this ‘gift’, the first being shudders Trahearne) has a greatsword (that isn’t Caladbolg which we know has unique skills if you play the right Sylvari path) now and a blowtorch (perfectly themed for an Engineer- and not for thief/ranger) was created?

Answer:
Probably

Necromancer in the charr personal story dual wields Infinite Light which is a sword.
Rytlock uses sword/pistol as a warrior.
Logan is a Guardian.

Crusader Deborah is a heavy armor character who uses an impossible weapon combination (pistol/focus), for that matter.

it would have been nice if they would have just kept releasing expansions for guild wars. this is a decent game, but it isn’t nearly as epic as guild wars was. i played guild wars 1 more than i do 2, and still would if i had anything left to do on any of my characters

In hindsight, yes they could have made it work. GW1 was immensely popular and the expansion model (when in full swing) kept the players playing.

GW1 was a bloated mess by the time EOTN rolled around, iirc that was a large part of why they started making GW2 in the first place.

That’s how they add special weapons to the game. special armors seem to come from LS rewards, special weapons from BL tickets. the only non-BL set that comes to mind would be fractal weapons from like 2 years ago.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hyper Cutter.9376

We need more distinction between staffs and tridents, not less!

Tridents have the fewest skins of any weapon type (followed closely by the other underwater weapons), and too many tridents are just lazy copy-and-paste jobs of the same set’s staff (see also: most dungeon weapons, vanguard and lionguard even though they have unique trident skins that are ingame but unavailable, most cultural sets, corrupted, primordus, a few others).

Yes I’ve played last weeks story on 3 chars and got all the achievs so I can get the Luminescent skin but it’s still a lot of work to get the full set – a big commitment from me. I don’t want to do that if everyone is going to end up with the skins as well. The harder it is the less people will have it, and that’s a good thing for me. What's wrong with Traits?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hyper Cutter.9376

Hyper Cutter.9376

The requirements to unlock the majority of Traits are insane. I can’t, for the life of me, understand why this was done.

Almost all the requirements to unlock traits are perfectly reasonable (some of them were pretty ridiculous early on, but they patched that quickly) and in zones about the level you gain access to that tier of traits.

A couple are bugged, but that’s a long-term issue that has nothing to do with traits.

For the same reason that Dry Top and Silverwaste do not count as Maguuma for the purpose of the daily. I believe that reason is simply because either nobody thought to, or simply didn’t want to, update old code to include new areas and enemies.

Dry Top has a distinct background on the character select screen, suggesting it counts as a different region from Maguuma (I’ve never done this in Silverwastes, but I assume it has the same one).

Husks, sylvari, Plant Wolves have never contributed to Plant Slayer, not even the ones that have been around for years. They are their own entity. Pretty much the only things that do count are Oakhearts and the like.

I believe thorn wolves and all their variants get counted as Nightmare Court.

And don’t get me started on the event Mordrem wolves in Iron Marches that had perma retaliation, and could then buff themselves with regular retaliation on top of that…that was just cheap.

Or that godkitten golem in Fallen Hopes that has perma-retaliation and causes you to take 300+ damage every time you attack it.

Retaliation is just horribly broken when used by monsters in general, since we attack so fast compared to them (simultaneously making it worthless to use ourselves). And boon removal is inadequate or downright nonexistent depending on profession And what does exist is balanced for esports like all defensive abilities (and thus has a cooldown at least twice as long as it should have to be useful in PVE).

600+ posts on this simple concept that due to usefulness or popularity as a weapon of choice that some precursors are considerably cheaper than others.

I am literally convinced at this point that Penguin is some sort of robot, since the idea that people want to make legendaries for the weapons their characters actually use rather than just go for the cheapest option (which are all unpopular and mostly underwater weapons) in order to have a legendary is completely alien to him.

Now Pengy promised “cheap precursors,” and he would know full well that this statement, in context, would have to refer to the good precursors, not the junk ones, so I’m just asking what his line is on the good precursors.

We both know it’s “pull yourself up by your virtual bootstraps”.

I see no harm in making it tradeable, as long as Anet wont pull another Mini Monkey King after a short time.

The mini monkey is how new release markets work. You saw it with the monkeys, the chaos of lyssa recipe. It happens over and over again. Until the market finds stability with enough supply to offset demand the price will be high. Then you see the TP flippers work their magic of helping to slowly bring the market into balance.

That Lyssa recipe never did “balance”, it still costs ten times as much as the other god-themed back item recipes because of how stupidly it was distributed.

What I’d prefer to see is anet start designing and selling single pieces of armor. Instead of a whole set, put out a coat or leggings. Make them with the intent of mix and matching, and work off of existing sets to promote the customization we all want. Like the medium magitech leggings. They look great, but have very few options.

Sell quality single pieces for 300-400 gems designed for mix and match, and make more money for less work.

They have (the Lawless stuff), and people complained about that as well.

Headpieces and outfits, a plea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hyper Cutter.9376

Just have the outfits without their own helms (this one and ancestral) use your actual headgear.

To give posters some clarity, Anet released the Zodiac skin which IMO was a bold change. I purchased this one was able to mix and match freely. The skin has a complex design with animation, and is mixable. The decision to make the outfits limited in appearance is by choice.

Zodiac was also three sets that had to be purchased seperately. If they made these outfits into regular armor, they’d each have to be locked to a single armor class or they’d sell all 3 versions as seperate sets due to the work required to make them compatible with armor weights.

Precursors Drop Rate

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hyper Cutter.9376

Hyper Cutter.9376

The huge influx of precursors will cause T6 materials to jump in price. Not just a little jump either, we’re talking 10g+ PER T6 material.

There are only enough T6 on the market to make 20 legendaries. If 1,000 precursors get added today because 1,000 accounts have a birthday, the supply of T6 will be GONE instantly.

I, too believe Anet needs to dramatically increase the supply of t6 mats in the game. Except I’m not just feigning concern and actually think this..

Well it’s called a legendary for a reason. We can’t have precursors dropping like flies for everyone. If they even increased the drop rate a little, the prices would drop.

Oh no, people might actually be able to get a thing they want without paying proper homage to the robber barons.
