Nothing in this world is free
if you want just the core game it will cost you and your better off waiting for HoT release most likely will drop to 10 bucks
If HoT is $50 (like Anet says), and HoT+GW2 is also $50 (like Anet says), then by definition base GW2 is free now.
Hell of a way to announce going F2P though.
-How can some of you look people in the eye and claim Arenanet is not giving you a whole lot of content(HoT specifically) when you haven’t played or experienced everything(and I mean EVERYTHING) that is this expansion offers, hmm? Do any of you have access to some leaked version of the full expansion or w/e? Enough with assumptions and back seat game development. You don’t work for Anet.
We don’t know how much content is in HoT because Anet doesn’t tell us anything and is expecting us to drop $50-$100 sight unseen.
I’m afraid, unless Anet has something really amazing up their sleeve (that they foolishly didn’t reveal when they dropped the price bomb on everyone), HoT looks an awful lot like someone bundled together the next living story season and an unrelated feature pack and sold them to us for almost as much as the original game.

GW1 campaigns had two new professions apiece and entire maps as big as the base Tyria map in Prophecies. There’s nothing to suggest HoT even has as much content as GW1’s actual expansion had (which cost less than $50, btw), let alone as much as Factions or Nightfall.
But the most recent Guild Wars 1 expansion, Eye of the North, came with no new profession, no character slots and basically a handful of zones. The fact is, the other games were full games, and only Eye of the North was an expansion. This is, by and large, along the same format as Eye of the North.
Which only cost $35 and had a lot more content than it looks like HoT has. Which was the point I was making.

Piles of essence are lodestones, they drop from things that lodestones specifically drop from (like the mat bags from personal story rewards, or the bags of various tiered lodestone components you can buy with the karmic converter).
I really wish they’d make them worth something like all the others…
Im in the same boat with the witch hat. I have the gw2 celebration hat and wizard hat l, yet I had the witch hat for awhile and wardrobe never gave it to me
If you had it when the wardrobe was implemented, it’s probably still on one of your characters. Talk to the black lion armor guy in one of the cities and see.
Problem is they release “new armor” let alone weapons every other century while outfits and BLC ticket weapons happen to come out on a monthly basis.
And what minimal weapons/armor they do release achievable through the game, it’s either awful RNG or braindead open world farming not remotely tied to dungeons or fractals.
I don’t know why you put “new armor” in scare quotes, but multiple armor sets have already been datamined, presumably for HoT.
Also dungeons already have associated weapon and armor sets (and fractals have a weapon set as well).
How did this kormirhate-thing ever get so viral?
I don’t even understand why everyone is hating her?
Were her combat abbilities crap? Or was her part in the lore kinda off?
Pls tell me.
Everything people hate Trahearne for, Kormir was twice as guilty of.
At least Trahearne didn’t literally steal godhood from us (yes, obviously they couldn’t let your character become a god, shut up).
Blade shards aren’t currency. They’d go in the collection with the rest of the crafting materials, if anything.
It doesn’t make the timeline any more wonky than going to do the Personal Story as a Reaper for example.
Or that traveling between Prophecies-era Tyria/Cantha and Elona in GW1 involved time travel, and the same with all the base regions and EotN, for that matter.
A lot of the backpieces are still possible, they’ve just became much, muuuch more grindy now, sadly.
Mawdrey’s probably a lot cheaper to make now, since the price of foxfire has fallen a lot over time.
I didn’t even know it actually did drop, I kind of assumed it was bugged or something (like a couple other collections, at least one or two of which still are, iirc).
I wish they’d just add it to the vendor that sells the corrupted recipes, which would be a logical and appropriate place for it.
Let me trade my crests for geodes so I can buy the rest of my ambrite recipes….
Yeah, this.
So many people are mad that a thing they have might not make them special anymore because the unwashed masses can get it…
I just want my kitten Stalwart Shoulders and Apostle Leggings.
AI is typically a catch all term in situations like this. Essentially in this case it means: poor pathing, poor responsiveness, and trouble hitting targets.
Pets obey the same rules as monsters do as far as pathfinding goes (read: they can only reach something if there’s an unbroken path to it because they can’t jump or climb like players can), once you realize that you can see there’s nothing wrong with it.
The problem is largely that pets have no way to dodge and no protection from AOE so they tend to die easily when there’s a lot of AOE being thrown around.
And btw they could make more money if this outfit is armor skin. Just sayin’.
Clearly Anet’s actual sales figures disagree.
Also, just pointing out that GW1 had an in-game store as well, and sold costumes that were functionally pretty much identical to outfits.

I understand why they did it (since you go straight from character creation), but I wish they’d thrown a few couple juvenile devourers or something in the area near where you start.
Once they are low on money, they start to care about customers. But not yet.
I stopped buying gems at all, I learned how to farm efficiently and I don’t care about their outfits. And this one, together with balthazar pijamas are bright examples of great armor skins converted to outfits. I’m sick of it.
The balthazar armor would look horrible piecemeal. Have you ever seen what it looks like when you turn off the head?
I think part of the problem is that some people choose armor for prestige (how hard it is to get), while others go by appearance.
GW1 was the same way, so many sets of FoW armor dyed black…
I just finished leveling my fifth ranger, which is a charr (I now have one of every race).
I just used t3, except for the head (t2) and boots (t1).
Most trident skins are already lazy reused staff skins, we don’t need any more overlap between them!
Also, Anet has always been twitchy about things bought with currencies other than gold. Karma items can’t be salvaged, badge exotics can’t be salvaged or forged, even gear bought with dungeon tokens comes with unsellable runes.

The simplest thing to do would just be make another exotic rifle with the Deldrimor Plated Rifle skin, like should have been done to begin with (that skin was available in PVP, but never properly in PVE for some reason).
My ele is very happy about 99.99% of the playerbase not being able to copy his look.
I hope they add it back purely in spite of people like you who think that excluding players from item acquisition is a good means of player retention.
How do you think I feel when the lock out skins like Braham’s weapons and such? It just feels like pointless exclusion of players and it stops people from giving Anet more money for it! It’s lose lose.
The living story skins aren’t “locked out”, they’ve gone back on sale multiple times since they originally debuted.
all I’m saying is it should work like WvW, no activity, warnings and a kick from the map to allow active players to keep the RNG numbers rolling, that would give you more chance.
I understand your point and it make sense. I always wondered myself why this was not implemented for PvE maps as well. It would help reduce unnecessary overflow/megaservers maps.
It is, you get kicked from PVE maps after… an hour or something, I think. Much better than having it kick in if you stand still for a minute like in WvW…
There’s only a handful of non-town clothes items that are actually gone from the gem store permanently, most of the rest (like the living story characters’ weapons) get added for sales and such relatively regularly.
The real issue with this game is incredibly apparent from level 1 with any character, but I’ll relate my charrs experience: my character does 26 damage to an ascalonian ghost. NPCs do about 1. Maybe. Why is that bad? Because it’s stupid. Are you just another soldier in the Legion or are you some special snowflake? Because you sure as hell aren’t special outside of the personal story.
NPCs are weak on purpose, presumably so they can’t complete events without player help.
There was one occasion when the game did reward high skill, and regular players went bananas. Remember that fuss over the Liadri mini and title?
Honestly, Liadri was just a DPS race and required relatively little skill. Also, her attacks insta-killed any sort of pet or summon (including ranger pets, which is just lazy programming on Anet’s part).
I beat her by circle-strafing her with a shortbow, and would have done it quicker if not for the aforementioned “pet dies instantaneously” thing.

There’s no “challenging” content Anet could add that would satisfy people, within a few weeks max most of these people will have chewed through it and come back to complain for more. See also: dungeons, fractals, taquito, triwurm, aetherpath, etc.
OP, if you are under the zones level, the mobs WILL aggressively aggro onto you. It’s done purposefully to keep players out of zones they aren’t ready for. I took a level 20’ish to Cursed Shore during last Christmas. Mobs would lock on from extreme ranges. Luckily I had a thief escort who plowed the road of all the mobs.
Also Risen Acolytes have a gigantic aggro range regardless of your level, at least half again the range of any other enemy.
- illogical conditions system (poisoned turrets and blind sand?!)
Would you rather condition-based weapons be rendered completely useless against a considerable number of enemies, because that’s by far the worse option.
In PvP this is true; however, in PvE and WvW this is not. PvE bosses could care less whether your pet has 6 into BM, they’ll one shot them none the less. The same goes with WvW zergs, the pet is mere cannon fodder. Remember, any time you have to call your pet back to avoid damage, your losing “40%” of your damage. That is why they suck.
I take 6 in beast mastery and Natural Healing on several of my rangers (including the one that I exclusively do dungeons/fractals with), and my pets very seldom die unless I get careless and don’t pay attention to their HP.
I like having the axe and greatsword traits in beast mastery (I generally run axe/horn and greatsword in dungeons), if only the greatsword trait wasn’t in the same tier as Natural Healing.

If you don’t want to do map completion, that’s not Anet’s fault.
Now the idea would be nice if they where unlocked as armor pieces, but they would have to armor pieces only for that weight. IE Balthazar would be a heavy set, The Crystal Nomads would be a medium, the Shadow Assassin Medium, Etc etc.
Anet’s not going to give you an item worth 800 gems for free.
anet should make armour skin and outfit balance. this can make everyone happy.
There’s still at least twice as many armor sets per weight as there are total outfits.
I like the scepter, the staff, the axe, and the horn, the rest I’m not crazy about.
Now that I think about it, it’s kind of funny that there’s more gay relationships in this game than interracial ones (I can’t think of any of the latter, actually, unless they actually go through with Braham/Rox).
Honestly, Marjory and Kasmeer’s relationship has always been ham-handed, and that’s without getting into any issues with how it began (Even before they were in a relationship, working for Marjory was the only thing keeping Kasmeer from being homeless, and I shouldn’t have to spell out the issues with that scenario. I’m sure whoever wrote for them thought it was romantic or something, but comes off pretty creepy).
Also Logan’s sad kitten for the queen is the most pathetic thing in this game, I swear to God.
(edited by Hyper Cutter.9376)
They were still scheduled before, the schedules were just messier and each map (including overflows) had an independent one.
A commander leading a world boss train wasn’t any better than you think the current system is.
I wish they’d make all the outfits for charr and asura use the male version, because the female one always looks awful on them.
All the Svanir I’ve encountered while leveling my latest character act like this (and only Sons of Svanir specifically, the Icebrood among them still act normally). They also dodge out of AOEs (which is really, really annoying if you’re a necro using wells, which this character is).
Pinnacle are the next set of achievement rewards after you run out of Zenith skins, their description in the wardrobe says “free to apply”.
That plus, I know the light armor version of this set has a very necro appearance the game doesn’t have much of, so it would definitely add in some variety.
The light armor equivalent of Stalwart is Apostle (which is given out to light armor classes at the same story reward), not Tribal.
@ TE
I dont know what you mean the armor exist in game. I don’t know how but I have all parts of the armor expect the headpiece.
You got them from achievement chests, most likely. I got almost all the Stalwart skins that way (except for the shoulders, the one part I actually want) and the same for Apostle (everything but the pants, again the part I actually wanted).

There is also the middle ground between open world and instanced, like the Marionette fight. Open World and instanced at the same time, it’s sad that the Breach and the Vinewrath weren’t similar to the Marionette
marrionette was really good imo
A good encounter yes, but a harsh reminder for Anet that the average Skill of the Playerbase was low enough for them to fail an LFR Raid in WoW ( and this thing is called Tourist Mode for good Reason ).
I hope we see more good Encounters like Marionettes in HoT, who are fun, have good Mechanics and different Fail Mechanics than just a Timer where the Boss just kittens off without any Consequence
its ok to have bosses that people dont beat every time, unless they play well.
Marrionette was good because it wasnt just about coordination, it was about player skill. And yeah, lot of people werent at the midrange skill level.
Oh yeah, and it was pretty varied/adaptive. 5 different bosses, lane defense, sometimes doing multi bosses. Many different ways to play the same event.
pretty good reward structure as well
oh well, they havent matched it yet imo.
They haven’t done anything similar to the marionette again because sadly the way it was designed it caused serious problems with the “average player”. The “average player” of GW2 doesn’t need much skill to play, because the open world can be zerged and be done while afk and pressing 1. So those who are trained to just do that will have a very hard time playing such an event.
For example, when some randoms are being thrown together on a platform without any idea of what to do because they turn off map chat or don’t read it, or haven’t read up the mechanics beforehand, or their build just isn’t good enough for the given encounter, then the entire thing fails.
Although the Marionette was a very good designed fight, maybe the best open world fight Arenanet ever designed, it had its own set of problems, namely the total lack of skill of the average GW2 player.
However, I DO believe part of the problem with the Marionette was the temporary nature of it. All players wanted the new achievements, the dailies and the new rewards. It’s really BAD to make hard/challenging content temporary. Maybe the next time they add challenging temporary content, they could have two versions, one easier TEMPORARY version during the initial release, then a harder PERMANENT version of the event later on after the release is done.
The marionette also had rampant population issues (a lot of the time, one or more platforms would only have a couple of people on it, and there’s kitten-all the rest can do to help them), and some stupid design decisions.
Their first step was to remove it from PvP
Next they removed it from WvW areas
Then they removed it from some zones through LS
Then they removed it from all the starting zones
Finally they stopped making underwater skins for new weapon sets
They didn’t remove underwater combat from the starter zones, just from the lower-level part of them, of which the only meaningful example was the lake in Rata Sum.
Also, I don’t remember the Living Story removing any underwater content.
Again, convenient, but not very immersive. The world would be a be more cohesive if we had about 1/3rd of the waypoints we have now. I’d rather have the population moving through the world more rather than teleporting to world bosses, node farms, and events as we check off our endgame to-do-lists.
What would that actually accomplish, other than making traveling anywhere tedious? That’s what the WvW maps, Orr, and the Silverwastes are like, and none of them are fun to travel through.
5. Poor sales decisions, regarding old skins & armors. If you actually revived S1 skins on to the gem store, as well as other skins, you’d sell a heck of a lot more, especially when most of them cannot be obtained anymore.
What season 1 items do you want that aren’t available? All the gem store items from season 1 still appear in the store occasionally, and all the old achievement rewards can be bought from the laurel vendors.
9. Moving world bosses to a regular timer.
Not only is this more convenient than it was before, the way megaservers work requires it (since every map instance used to have its own independant boss timers, including overflows).
10. Including Fractal rewards in Mawdrey recipe.
Is running a level 1 fractal five times (less now, if you wait for fractal dailies) really that hard?
11. Too many waypoints.
What?
My point about the karma vendors really should have been noting how it seems they are abandoning this model, after all where in Dry Top or Silver Wastes can you buy any new looking armor for karma…or any armor for that matter?
You can buy Carapace pieces with bandit crests, after you’ve gotten unlocked that piece.
Yeah .. i really wish that more hairstyles would behave like this one. I recently really
fell in love with it after seeing how it behave while harvesting (and i harvest a lot)
Considering the unappealing and artificial way that hairstyle reacts to your character’s posture (see picture), I can’t blame them for toning that sort of thing down.
That “strangled by your hair” thing drove me so crazy I bought a hair kit to make it stop.
That underwater heart was probably the most tedious in Metrica (other than the Anthill heart, which the NPE finally fixed).
Another one was the utter nerf of the angry hungry bunnies.
What “nerf”, all they did was move the heart to the base of the cliff, it still works the same way it always did.
Also, I don’t see how anyone other than Anet can look at Damask costing more than the other three ascended mats put together and say “yes, this is a thing that is totally okay”.
(edited by Hyper Cutter.9376)
There’s already ugly faces in the game (like that male charr face with the serious underbite, or the female one with the messed up eye and broken teeth), but I’ve only ever seen them on NPCs.
