Why am I crafting precursors?

Oh for…this again?

1. ArenaNet have NEVER said that the precourser crafting system would be easier or cheaper then the current way, it’s not meant to be easier, it’s meant to be an alternative method of obtaining a precursorIf your going to distill everything down to basic numbers, then fine don’t craft precursors just buy them if it means that much to you, but don’t come on the forums and cry about how precursors are too difficult to obtain, a legendary is not something handed to you,

2. What happened to the FUN? I found crafting my precursor super interesting and compelling, having to create a basic weapon then slowly upgrading and infusing it with various magics and strange items throughout the world

Can we please stop with this “discussion” about how ArenaNet “falsely advertised” (Which they didn’t) and quit demanding the system be changed to make it easier, legendaries are common enough already, and now that a non-RNG system is in the game, people still complain… sheesh, if you don’t like it go play a singleplayer game

I bet you’re filthy rich, and skip all the tedious part by buying everything, then you can have your fun in part 3.

Try not to use gold for once and start gathering 8000 soft woods, 6000 hard woods and call it fun.

Welcome to an MMO, legendary weapons are not some super cheap thing everyone gets as a “thanks for playing”, that’s why they are legendary weapons, as I said, if you don’t like it, you shouldn’t be playing MMO’s

LMAO.

All the MMO I know/played give you TOP GEARS by doing the HARDEST, TOUGHEST contents, TOUGHEST bosses, with TEAM EFFORT.

GW2 ask you to do the most boring stuffs: Logging/Mining for hundred of hours for legendaries. I DO NOT consider this as playing the game, or playing MMO.

I’m sorry, explain to me why Arena-net should devalue legendary weapons for all players who have worked so hard to craft them just because a few people whine about it on the forums? Legendaries are something you earn by dedicating time and effort to the game, simple as that, if you can’t understand that, well I’m afraid there’s nothing more I have to say to you

Leaving aside the fact that there’s nothing “legendary” about grinding gold or puking weapons into the mystic toilet, we’re talking about precursors here, nor legendaries. Precursors, I’ll point out again, are entirely ordinary exotic weapons that happen to be part of a mystic toilet recipe.

It’s not meant to be easier either and Legendary should NOT be easy to get..

No, legendaries shouldn’t be easier to get, but their precursors should. It’s painfully obvious from looking at the process of making the actual legendary weapon that the expense was supposed to fall on the gifts (particularly the Gift of Fortune), but somewhere along the way Anet screwed up.

Precursors are just exotic weapons used in a mystic forge recipe, when you get down to it, and no exotic weapon should require ascended mats to make (let alone enough to craft dozens of actual ascended weapons).

Yeah, we should be able to buy pieces – or at least to choose which sections are shown via the outfit panel. I hate hats/helmets quite a lot, and most gem store outfits include hideous ones. (Also, Guild Wars 1 sold outfits, and you could choose which parts you used. Come on, Guild Wars 2, catch up already…)

There’s very few JPs where gliding would actually be useful (outside of saving yourself from falling damage). Most of them are either in enclosed spaces or the highest points in the area, and usually involve going upwards.

Also, JP rewards are hot garbage so I don’t care that much about defending their sanctity.

This thread is incredible.

ANet said nothing about wanting to remove Berserker’s as a viable gear stat combination. What they wanted to inhibit was having your entire team be Berserker’s and outright ignore mechanics because content was too easy. They wanted to change the paradigm from “finishing content as fast as possible” to “struggle to finish content at all”. Thus, what they did was create content that was hard enough and damaging enough to force a couple players in a group to think about things from a different angle, and thus you get healers. Cleric’s Healers. The very fact that people are arguing about how necessary healers are indicates that ANet succeeded at doing exactly what they wanted to do: diversify the builds and roles that people are using. Ten days ago no one in their right mind brought Healing Power to instanced PvE content.

Yes, introducing the holy trinity into a game heavily sold on the specific lack thereof is definitely a good thing that should be celebrated…/sarcasm

Now count 2 and 2 together, will you? The game is greatly intended for “casual” players and it is doing well. Could it be that it is doing well BECAUSE it is intended for “casual” players?

Sure, it’s doing well in major part because it caters to casual players. Does that mean it should never in its entire lifetime do anything for any other kind of player? Of course not.

The game is littered with content that was supposed to be “challenging”. Dungeons, fractals, Tequatl, the Triple Wurms. The content locust crowd devoured each in turn and then came crying to Anet for more when they got bored with them. What happens when you get bored with this, too? Anet’s resources aren’t infinite, if they start focusing on raids to the exclusion of actually accessible content, people are going to get angry (and rightfully so).

Still don’t understand why people are complaining about precursor crafting, obviously it has to be challenging/expensive in order to maintain (or not affect at all) the prices of tp precursors.

What makes the price of precursors so kittening sacred that Anet can’t touch them?

Precursor crafting should take time and effort, but it should not take gold or anything that can be sold on the TP for gold (and when it comes down to it, grinding mats isn’t really any different from grinding gold, and it’s even less fun). The ideal would have been a dichomy: craft your precursor cheaply over a long period of time vs pay a lot more gold to get it instantly, with the forge and random drops as wildcards.

The more valuable the Ascended gear, the higher your chances are for good drops. Next time, try salvaging an Ascended Weapon or Armor, and then come back with your results. I guarantee you you’ll get what you want.

Edit – 18 Gold is a drop in a bucket. You’ll get next to nothing with spending such low amounts. Save your money, craft some boots or gloves, and then salvage.

I’d say this was good satire, if I didn’t know that you were 100% sincere.

If they cost less than the TP price of precursors it would crash the TP pre economy and have a knock on effect on the rest of the economy. Anet specifically said they didnt want to do this.

Pre crafting’s purpose was ONLY to give a non RNG method, and a non grindy method of gaining precursors. All of the gold skin components dont need to be grinded and can be got just by playing maps.

Idk why people cant seem to understand this.

People understand Anet’s protectionism of their virtual economy just fine, they just don’t agree with it. Those aren’t the same thing.

Actually, you do have a point, but only where ascended crafting is concerned. Here, they have just added 3 elonian squares to the cost of each insignia, while leaving the damask at the previous value. It was a straight increase, made to make ascended gear cost more. This at the same time where it has suddenly became more important (due to incoming raids) and also when Anet massively nerfed asended drop rates in fractals.

I’d really, really want to hear reason behind that one.

Unrealistic Legendary Collections

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Hyper Cutter.9376

Hyper Cutter.9376

Arena net made it very clear Legendary collections would be hard. Their intent was to keep the value of precursor.

As usual, Anet cares more about their precious economy than they do their players.

And let’s not even get into the stupidity of using ascended mats (in ludicrous quantities because beep boop arbitrary value of item must be protected because reasons) to make an exotic weapon.

As for “cheaper”. What should have been taken away from the monetary cost of the crafting should have been added in the time investment it takes you to craft it. Therefore they would be on the same level, with one requiring 100% gold and one 50% gold and 50% time investment. But what ended up happening was the same massive gold cost along with a massive time investment tacked on.

Yeah, this. What precursor crafting should have been was a system that required a lot of time but very little gold (or items that can be sold on the TP, ie ascended mats). That way, there would be a dichotomy of long-term and cheap (crafting) versus immediate but expensive (buying it on the TP), with the toilet for people who feel lucky and random drops as a wild card.

People are deluding themselves if they think ANet would crash the value of precursors (and thus the value of legends) by making them trivial to obtain through running around. From what I gather from people who completed collections, the general trend is that the price is a bit lower through collections, but not by far.

What makes the price of precursors so sacrosanct? They’re just exotic weapons when you get down to it. The real expense in making a legendary should be coming from the rest of the components (I’m pretty sure that’s literally the point of the Gift of Fortune!)

3)Hero points are not soloable. This one may sort of be legitimate, but not everything has to be soloable. Case in point, I ended up gliding to one of the more hiddent HPs in Verdant Brink and there were two other guys there. They stated they was no way we could take it without at least one or two more. We tried once and got wiped pretty quickly. We then changed things around a bit, and were able to do it the second time. Me being a healer actually made it all possible. So, yeah, it sucked that it was challenging, but it was more rewarding when we beat it. But there are some that are just ridiculous.

The hero points need to be soloable. Even aside from elite specs, they’re required for map completion (which ties into multiple collections and the new legendaries), and locking people out of that due to the whims of other players is bad design. It’s going to be a big problem down the road once the players move on to whatever the newest content is (new zones added with LS3? Another expansion?).

People calmed down once they announced precursor crafting was actually coming to HoT, but once everyone realizes it’s not any better than buying it or worshipping the toilet those threads are coming back with a vengeance.

ETA on gliding in Tyria?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

not until they figure out a way to disable it in JPs and even then it’s doubtful

Most jumping puzzles are in enclosed spaces or significantly higher than the surrounding terrain in the first place, and even if they weren’t they give garbage rewards so who cares.

The question is whether its worth the time (and thus money) that it would take to implement for zones that can be traversed just fine without gliding, and that gliding wouldn’t really add much to?

I’d wager that from Arenanet’s perspective it is not. Not only that, they may actually want to maintain the “wow factor” for new players of not seeing anyone gliding around in the core maps. I know when I did my first HoT BWE, just walking in to verdant brink test and watching a guy jump off a cliff I was like “nooooo, dummy” and then he winged on outta there and I was like “woah, cool, that’s different”

On the other hand, seeing HoT-owning people gliding around central Tyria would be like a giant glowing neon sign saying “buy HoT and you can do this too!” to holdouts and F2P players.

Cut the number of hero points required in half, to 200, and cut the value of the hero challenges in Maguuma (and the costs of getting them in WvW) in half accordingly. Also retune the HoT hero points to be doable solo.

Now, earning all the hero points in core Tyria is enough to unlock your elite spec (and I emphasize “earning”, because people seem really keen to devalue the time and effort put into map completion), or you can unlock it in the new maps while ignoring central Tyria altogether, or do it in WvW, or use whatever combination of those methods you wish.

Those that are complaining about group content realize that you don’t actually have to group up to do the content…it only means that there should be a group to do the content. I almost never join formal groups, I just run around the map finding events and do them, if others are there, fine…if not, that’s fine too. You can solo most of the map, it will just take you longer than normal…and HP points are split 50/50 between events and channeling, so it’s an even amount between solo and group.

The only hero point I was able to reach on foot spawned a champion dinosaur on a 5 minute timer. There’s absolutely no way a single person is going to be able to do that (I could probably kill it if I had to, but it would take at least twice that long). It’s like they looked at the worst skill points in the base game (those two near the exit of Malchor’s Leap that have champion enemies on top of them) and thought “yes, we need more of that, but even less fun”.

Think of people trying to get these points 6 months from now, or a year from now, when most of the players have moved on. Hero points have to be soloable, or new players and alts will be literally unable to unlock their elite specs.
