Yeah the plated metal is definitely the pain point.

They really need to add those to the verdant brink meta rewards, like they did with exalted keys in AB and chak eggs in TD, because they’re a huge bottleneck on unlocking your specialization weapons.

I still find it funny how Dungeons “died” with merely a nerf to their gold reward. Not much else has changed. Maybe they could update their token rewards.

They should have increased the token awards. Thing is, Anet explicitly doesn’t want people to run dungeons anymore. They just didn’t have the balls to cut them entirely, so they gutted their rewards to encourage people to buy HoT drive people towards fractals.

Dungeons are also a lot harder to create because they’re bigger. And that’s why you only get new fractals.

We didn’t even get new fractals!

no balance to the pve side yet again?? why?

Hyper Cutter.9376

They shouldn’t balance PvE based on what certain groups of players prefer to use including those that choose to blindly follow them.

Why not, that’s how they balance PVP (“what players prefer to use” is literally what a meta is)

you pvers have gotten everything you wanted out of balance for the last three years.

Not even remotely. There’s entire weapons, utility skill types, and trait lines that are basically never used in PVE, either because they’re balanced for “defend a tiny circle forever” gameplay or because they were so good at same that Anet gutted them (RIP turrets).

Certain adventures need reworks.

The easiest way to fix Punch-O-Matic is to move gold to where silver is now (which is attainable, with effort) and put a new silver in between that and bronze.

Also shooting gallery needs a crosshair you can actually see against the background.

Also, Sanctum Scramble needs a way more generous timer, at least for the silver reward. It’s probably the single worst adventure required for the specialization collections (Punch-O-Matic is a close second).

There is no parity in the difficulty of adventures whatsoever and it’s the most bizarre thing.

Probably the same with the people doing jumping puzzles, since we haven’t got any new ones in 2 years, even after an expansion release.

Yes we did, Dry Top, Silverwastes, and Auric Basin all have jumping puzzles (Auric Basin has two), plus pseudo-jps like the suspended airship in Verdant Brink and the giant tree in Tangled Depths. Also Troll’s Revenge in New LA.

Thanks for the FYI’s. I didn’t realize that I’d have to go to Tangled Depths to unlock a mastery that would help with a boss in VB. Oh, well.

Yeah, it’s kind of a questionable bit of game design. The fact that the game doesn’t actually tell you how to stop his insta-kill move doesn’t help either. I had to look it up on the wiki. I mean, it’s just “break his break bar” like pretty much all HoT bosses, but it leaves a bad impression when you show up to a fight and then just die mysteriously.

I didn’t realise you have to go to TD to train Nuhoch Stealth Detection. Oh wait, you don’t.

You have to visit Tangled Depths to unlock the nuhoch mastery track.

[Suggestion] Crafting the Precursor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hyper Cutter.9376

It’s an absolute failure as is. It should have been the cheaper method, where you invested time instead of gold (in opposition to buying it outright, which is costly but instantaneous), but Anet values the sanctity of existing precursor prices more than they do the happiness of the players.

On top of that, an exotic weapon shouldn’t require ascended mats to craft at all, much less the sheer amount required. I mean, most of the precursors take more wood and/or metal to craft than the Gift of Wood/Metal involved with actual legendaries, probably by at least an order of magnitude!

Shooting gallery needs a serious revamp. For starters, give us a crosshair that you can actually see against the background, and make sure that when you shoot something the game actually acknowledges you hit it.

Punch-O-Matic should have the requirements for gold lowered to where the silver requirement is now, with a new silver requirement between the current silver and bronze.

I think both Fallen Masks and Sanctum Scramble could probably use a bit more generous timers, too.

Who cares about the “scarcity” of one of the only new armor sets in the kitten expansion! You can’t even sell them, so their value as a skin only matters to the people who want that skin for its own sake.

It’s absolutely insane that after the effort you have to go to in upgrading your guild hall, you still have to pay through the nose to get the armor (and I’m sure it’ll be a similar price per weapon for every weapon in the set too, so that’ll be fun).

Before precursors were too expensive/high risk gamble now its too much of a grind,

They were too expensive and are too much of a grind (and still almost as expensive, because Anet values their precious pixel economy more than the happiness of the actual players).

The Winters Presence shoulders are roughly the same costs as other premium skins have in the past:

  • Queen Bee, the Silverwastes only drop ran roughly 900g to 1600g (pre-HoT)
  • Poly-luminescent refractors, from Halloween ToT, ran roughly 700-1000g (black) or 300-800g (green, orange) until Halloween 2015 (when the drop rate apparently increased).

Winter’s Presence is crafted/forged and account bound and the others are random drops. However, it’s still a premium skin and I think it’s odd that people think that it shouldn’t have a premium cost to go with it.

tl;dr how dare those filthy poors think special festival items should be reasonably attainable.

Because lets face it, if you arent running full DPS builds in anywhere in PVE (except niche roles in raids) you are doing it wrong.

go back to the now-extinct dungeon meta where you belong.

Hyper Cutter.9376

All I’m saying is if I can do it in an afternoon (and I’m not talented to the degree you’re implying) I am sure it can be done by most. I would suggest to anyone having trouble there are even guides on youtube for each of them by now. Yes certain things will be impossible for some people but the point is to provide some challenge for the majority – that will obviously price some people out of the market but thats just the nature of large numbers of people doing an activity (you wouldn’t nerf language in books because some people’s vocabulary is poor – I reach for the dictionary for lots of Will Self’s stuff but he is always right with the perfect word).

The problem with adventures is that a lot of them can’t really be practiced easily. A lot of them arbitrarily locked most of the time, so even if you want to bash your head against them until you win it’s not even practical to do.

Also, they vary wildly in difficulty for no apparent reason (just compare, say, shooting gallery with salvage pit). A lot of them could use the reward thresholds tuned a lot.

Fractals and Aetherpath were originally intended as hardcore content.

AN please add more skins NOT outfits!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hyper Cutter.9376

Hyper Cutter.9376

The only way outfits would ever be armor is if they were bound to a single armor weight, like all the other armor in the game (and, particularly, the other armor sets in the gem store).

they say that, but before the wardrobe update ALL existing outfits were separate parts, wearable by all races, genders, classes with no issue.

But not with actual armor, which is the point. Town clothes and outfits constitute a “fourth” armor weight unto themselves, incompatible with the other three (which in turn are incompatible with each other for technical reasons). A dev posted about it after the wardrobe update, I’m sure someone’s got the quote handy.

I completely agree that there needed to be a challenge mote for that one; it’s already one of the hardest, if not the hardest achieve in LS2.

One hint for those still trying to do it: You can disable the sepia by turning off post-processing in your graphics options. This is also handy if you want to see old LA in full color in first season PS. And if you are using the aviator effects, you can undo the sepia there, or do the “low” setting to get a nifty colorized version of the world.

The other thing is knowing that the whirlpools appear where the elementals die.

also the boss drops them at his own feet sometimes just to spite you, which is real fun when you’re stuck playing a dagger thief.

That’s because if they did it any other way, they risked destroying the precursor market which they said they did not want to do.

Bring back gold in dungeons!

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Hyper Cutter.9376

Hyper Cutter.9376

Keep the current rewards as is.

Add in dungeon vanquishing, as a selectable route (alternative to explorable) that makes you clear all paths and mobs before being rewarded would give gold relative to the scale of the dungeon ex AC vanquish 1.5g with a full Arah being around 10g.

Which part of direct gold rewards causing inflation do people not understand?

Arenanet don’t want high amounts of gold to enter the game. Also all this would lead to, ocne again, is a small fraction of the playerbase speedclearing the dungeons while the rest are forced into long dungeon runs.

Anet gutted dungeons to drive people out of them. They didn’t even bother pretending it was inflation they were concerned about, their pet economist literally stated “we want people doing fractals and raids instead of dungeons” outright.

The Chak Gerent is just fine

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Hyper Cutter.9376

Hyper Cutter.9376

No it doesn’t. TT has not been “brought in line” with other events in old tyria. Anet intended these fights to be harder. The nuhoch lane was buggy so I agree with the fixes there and perhaps scar might need some tweaking because I don’t know that the gerent’s bar is intended to break like that. But other than these issues the fight really doesn’t need anything done to it.

The wurm occurs in backwater areas of Bloodtide and nothing is gated behind its success (other than the specific rewards for fighting it). You can’t compare it to the main event on one of only four maps we got this expansion, and one that people need to beat in order to do multiple things.

There’s no way Anet intended a random bug to be a bigger challenge than a zone-wide battle against Mordremoth itself.

yeah, that.

Also, the number of mats required is just plain out of whack, both absolutely (we’re making exotic weapons here, why does it even need ascended mats?) and relatively (there’s no standardization in how many mats are required, so you get really dumb stuff like two-handed weapons requiring almost 10 times as much material as an offhand weapon for no real reason).

Why is everyone so mad about the precursor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hyper Cutter.9376

Hyper Cutter.9376

Crafting a precursor should not cost gold or anything that can be converted to gold. It should have been a longer-term method for players who don’t have the kind of money to buy the item outright, creating a dichotomy of “cheap, but a lot more time and effort” vs “expensive, but immediate”, with the mystic toilet as a wild card.

The situation fixes itself over time. Several people who realize that a precursor on the TP is cheaper than making it themselves will probably buy it on the TP. What happens when the supply of sellable precursors stays the same (we have to assume it does, as the craftable ones are not sellable and ANet said nothing about an increased droprate) but an increasing number of people buy one? The price rises.

This will go on until the precursors on the TP are no longer cheaper than the crafting price. Voila, balance. Just give it some weeks.

I’m legitimately not sure if you’re trolling or not. Either way, things getting more expensive is explicitly the kind of “balance” that nobody but the robber barons actually wants.

They weren’t “past rewards”, they just fell through the cracks when they implemented the wardrobe (Stalwart, Apostle, Heavy Scale, and Marauder are partially available in PVE, for example). There’s literally no reason not to make them properly available beyond making a bunch of horrible people sad that other people can have a thing they already have.
