im wondering what happened to several renders they showed before gw2 launched that seemed to have gotten lost. The kurzyish mesmer one they were using to compair gw1 to gw2 graphics and another mesmerish one used on an image with 3 others to show default coloring or something. That one is actually the very first image displayed on the gw2 wiki armor page. Perhaps they are saving stuff for an expansion.

for cursed shore trash farming i wouldnt use anything else expect maybe considering a shield on offhand but thats just me because i use 20 points in defense for reflect blocks/ regen on full adren bar/-20% shield recharge.

Im lazy while farming and prefer the 5 signets. 290 precision (200+90) is 13-14% crit chance and if you are using berserkers thats ALOT more dmg. Although ive yet to try an MF armor set so maybe it wouldnt be as good.

How does Sword/Focus work?

for me its because of the two aoe skills and the fact sword/focus/GS are direct dmg oriented so i can go full berserkers. I swap from GS to sword/focus when i got a small pack to deal with. Not to mention the eWarden can put a nice stack of bleed on foes very quickly.

call me lame but i did roll a mesmer and shes lvl 74 now. I needed an excuse to craft twilight and since im terrible in wvw with my warrior im going to take mesmer in there instead.

i know it would have depreciated the value of the skins but I would have liked sets of weapon skins. like twilight weapon sets, sunrise/bitfrost/and others. Maybe it wouldnt have worked for some like flameseeker prophecies but yeah twilight and sunrise for sure. I see they did that to some extent on the uniques in the forge with mesmer illusion weapons, the guardian spirt weapons and elementalist environmental weapons.

In the hundreds?
My crit is in the 80s and crit dmg is +100% or 150% added up with base and im critting for 2-2.5 k dmg like i think .66 or.75 seconds.
You do realize that when you are getting those 20k crits thats total over 3-4 seconds right? In my testing against golems i have yet to see much above 15k. 5-6 axe attacks at 2.5k ( i dont even have maxed out power) on 5-6 attacks is 12.5-15 k just auto attacking. A wasnt lieing, you can dmg test on golems and will see the axe and gs do the same dmg or very kitten close.

will have to settle for slightly less dmg at ~600 range though ;-(

i dont get where the “100b does more dmg then anything” comes from. in the time it channels axes auto attack does the same dmg. in both cases its auto dmg but for axe you are still mobile…

still thats not the debate. making 100b immobilize forces a certain gameplay with that weapon. Its not that they want to make it horrible to use its just making a learning curve so all the melee weapons in the game dont play 100% alike causing you to be bored out of your skull. now if GS didnt have two movement skills this would be a totally different story.

here are tips for spvp
dont use GS
have a ranged weapon on second set, rifle is good
dont run headlong into 3 people and expect your team to follow you to your death
start using a shield
learn how to dodge
take condition removal
sword mainhand is good
dont use GS

In pve
dont use GS
use axe
use shield
use beserker gear
dont aggro 3 vets
dont be a hero trying to tank bosses that one hit kill

scepter is good if 5stacks of confusion is of any use to your play.

Best class for range attacks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Justine.6351

Justine.6351

yeah many of the classes are broken down into wether they do melee dmg or ranged dmg and they are surprisingly close across the board. what changes them is how they deliver the dmg and how good that is depends on what you are doing. The guardian may not be popular for range but its auto attacks aoe cone is HUGE. I would choose that for farming tons of trash mobs in like DE but certainly that would get boring.

Rangers 1500 longbow range is hard to pass up. If you can maintain range its single target dps is medium to high for ranged attacks if traited like a glass cannon.

mesmers can hit hard at 600ish range with the GS. While the auto attack may be 1200 range if you are at ~ 600ish range you can mirror blade a foe for a reliable 3 hits on them. you have to trait for an extra bounce to do it and whats nice is its an illusion summon skill. Its normally 8 sec recharge but it benefits from both the GS trait and the illusion CD reducer trait taking it down to 4.8sec CD despite what tooltip says. Doing this almost takes you into the realm of what melee dmg would be. Using mantra of pain you can spike pretty hard in under 4.8 but no one likes charging mantras unless you are just using them for the +4% dmg/ mantra trait.

actually i to thought they said dungeons story mode could be soloed but you would fight with npcs like rytlock and that the paths after would be hard and you would need to take friends with.
However, either at the time it was miscommunicated or the system hadnt been set in stone yet or possible they were explaining how dungeons wouldnt be soloed but story mode could be. you might say i contridicted myself there or something but what im saying is perhaps story mode = story, which is an instance as are the dungeons leading to even more confusion considering such article on it were about a game that none of us had even played.

how viable is main hand Axe in PVE

in Warrior

Justine.6351

Judging from those two trait build, the GS will obviously do much more damage and tag mobs easier. To be honest, neither weapon is what I usually use for tagging mobs while following the zerg, longbow gives me much better results for that.

GS is terrible for tagging and its main dmg which is comparable to axes auto (sadly) is a 3-4 sec immobilize. Although i would have to agree on the longbow in mobile DE fights. For someone who leveled up with duel axes im surprised you forgot how awesome whirling skill on axe was for aoe tagging.

how viable is main hand Axe in PVE

in Warrior

Posted by: Justine.6351

Justine.6351

Axe is probably the best pve weapon. I agree with you 100% that GS is slow despite all its mobility. Odd how that works.

If you want to mind numb your game play:
power: 20, 12%dmg adren bar, 10%crit dmg axe
precision: 10, +40precsion/signet
defense: 20, block reflects, -20% recharge shield
crit dmg: 20, 9% crit chance adren bar, melee run faster
(k if you want glass cannon you could take the 20 points from defense and dump into precision and just orr farming its viable and certainly true if you are not using shield at all)
axe/ ok i use shield because i do more then just orr farm trash mobs and i hate retraiting so if you are just looking for orr trash mobs and tagging at events certainly go with axe so you can whirlwind on spawns and tag them all. for sigils take a perception (25 stacks = ~12% crit chance, more benefitial with such a high crit dmg) and personally i would say blood ( ~400 life steal on crit, veryfast CD of 2sec).
full beserkers ofcoarse with ruby orbs on armor.
dont worry bout utility, take healing signet, precision one, power one, optional one, signet of rage.

Should I roll a warrior?

in Warrior

Posted by: Justine.6351

Justine.6351

i started as warrior because i traited and skilled up mind numbily stupid. axe/shield and 5 signets is pretty boring but in non dungeon pve its easy mode^4
the more i have been playing warrior though the more im eyeing up some of the utility skills aswell as different weapons and traits.

20power, 12dmg with full adren bar, 10% crit dmg axe
10precision, +40 precision/signet
20 toughness, blocking reflects projectiles, -20% shield recharge
20crit dmg, 9% crit chance with full adren bar, fast run while melee
full beserkers
axe with perception sigil (get your crit chance nice and high), shield with blood sigil

Lots of sustained dmg (it really does get boring auto attacking so once in a while i toss in cyclone axe…) shield bash for nailing kiters, shield stance for save yourself from LOTS of stuff (really the reason i dont duelwield axes is because of this skill) and easily a combined total and averaged out ~500 regen hp / sec between blood sigil, healing signet (i NEVER activate it) and a minor trait that regens me 360hp / 3sec with full adren bar.
This is probably the war/mo of gw2 but sadly this is actually probably more effective then what 95% of the gw2 population is rolling at this point in the games life.

Gs/Staff power build pve

in Mesmer

Justine.6351

actually what im saying is that GS and Staff dont pair well with the same armor.

I think you should use staff. But consider using scepter and maybe focus on swap.
scepter has a channel skill that stacks on 5 stacks of confusion which will benefit from condition dmg, although im not sure how well confusion does in pve so thats something someone else will have to advise you on. the focus is still a solid choice i think because of the trait that causes illusions to bleed on crit + the warden = aoe bleed stacks of like 10 or more. while the stacks only last 5sec at 10stacks and each at minimum of 100tic bleed thats… 5k dmg from bleeds alone. I dont know, its just my take on it.

oh a side note, one day i hope to get the commander status and then trait for 50% fall dmg. run off a very high cliff and see how many die because i made it.

Rifle warrior viable for PvE dungeons?

in Warrior

Posted by: Justine.6351

Justine.6351

im berserker axe/shield in almost every area except ofcoarse spvp. I use rifle on swap because i think swap should be a ranged weapon for when you cant melee. im thinking thats obvious i guess. But anyhow im not sad because my gear is beserkers while using a rifle. If you are a warrior and have a rifle or even the bow its because you were forced to range by a hard hitting sob foe. Sad fact of the warrior and pretty much this line holds across all classes and weapons is that melee generally does double the dmg ranged weapons do. From my observations and testing as i would prefer to do it all at range aswell !
Now thats not to say you cant do some serious dmg at a range but that generally comes from multiple sources/packets. With mainhand axe i can just auto attack the medium golem on spvp isle in 3-4 seconds. WIth mesmer gs to get under 5 sec golem kill i need to trait for 4 bounces on mirror blade so the golem is getting my auto attack and 3 hits from mirror blade in a short window. this works as sustained because mirror blade can be traited down to a 4.8 sec recharge.
Warriors dont have multiple sources of dmg external from themselves. Its the attack they are doing and bleed. Even if you could stack bleed kittendedly fast, which you can with rifle, you are not going to kill that golem much faster, if at all, because you are sacking one of the three: power/precision/crit dmg to pickup condition dmg. Someone do the numbers but since power and condition dmg follow same trait line you are going to have a minimal like say ~50 tic bleeds. If you stack for condition major you probably still wont touch much over 100tic bleeds since part of stacking bleeds with a rifle would be using an earth sigil which bleeds on crit. You are most likely better off going beserker and being satisfied with 50tic bleeds (still toss on an earth sigil to your rifle) and getting into melee you chicken kitten!

Gs/Staff power build pve

in Mesmer

Posted by: Justine.6351

Justine.6351

well tbh GS and staff dont mix well if using same armor but thats not to say you cant.
rampagers = precision high, power & condition dmg minors
you see this could work, while not giving super high condition dmg you are getting a fantasmal crit chance so having power as minor isnt horrible and isnt waisted but also staff is condition oriented and there is a minor trait in the precision trait line that allows illusions to put a 5sec bleed on foes everytime they crit. Obviously with GS clones the channel auto attack allows for many more crits in a short time so more bleeds.
there is also Rabid
condition dmg high, precision/toughness minor
while that may work nice for staff and GS clones stacking bleeds its kinda leaving the GS on you pointless. The reason is the GS is like all upfront dmg.

The GS probably best pairs with Beserker gear while the staff would likely be Rabid. Chaos armor isnt doing much if you die in half a hit ;-) If you want to go full glass cannon with staff though you would probably want ravagers for the minor power. Minor is a poor way of saying it as the difference between major and minor stats on prefixes is not build breakingly huge. However the staffs direct dmg is pretty poor so any power would likely only benefit stuff on your weapon switch such as GS or really any other combo like sword & focus (warden is pretty amazing) for instance.

Banners...

in Warrior

Posted by: Justine.6351

Justine.6351

I love regen banners. In spvp i take several banners with and drop them off at nodes and hot areas so when an allies fight there they are getting 100% regen coverage and it goes ALONG way suprisingly for like a 200-300 heal tic. The other stats on the banner i could actually care less about which is maybe your point. Flat % stats might prove better like 10% dmg / 10% crit / 15% speed / 100hp per sec / -15% dmg and for the elite make it more maintainable with maybe 10% dmg/crit/15% speed. to prevent stacking they could make the effect the banners generate the same for both the non-elite banner and the elite and unstacking. Basically you can take a more specified banner to suit your specific needs or you can take the elite for a general buff but gain no benefit from both besides maybe coverage in different areas of the map like what i do in spvp with regen banners.

GreatSword most over rated weapon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Justine.6351

Is the greatsword the most over rated weapon in the game across all classes?

Ive tried multiple times to like the GS on my warrior specifically just to have an excuse for weapons like twilight and visions of the mist. And every time i go running back to axe/shield. Ive tested sooooo many times on spvp isle golems and in cursed shore. On spvp isle the dps on the “medium armor”(i think they fixed this just this weekend) golem both the axe auto attack and the GS 100b both killed it in ~4sec. Admittedly the GS was closer to 4sec and the axe was 4-5sec but we are talking about splitting a second when comparing 100b with a growing might stack to an autoattack. Ok that was static environment so i took it to cursed shore and went full glass cannon traits and swapped out major traits to fit the weapons as that only makes sense. Still i was getting ~4-5 sec kills on earth golems and the difference was even less there.

Ok 100b may look and feel cool but tbh its a terrible skill mechanics wise beyond the obvious boon of might stacking which doesnt really do much in a 5 sec fight. This is beyond the fact that for some reason when i get into a fight and start 100b (generally 1 use kills everything in cone in front of you as far as trash mobs go) but maybe 20% of the time the foe runs past me like some wierd glitch and i hit air while it starts attacking me from behind.

Ranger GS is a joke. Try it. Really all the ranger melee weapons are just, well ok they are not my play style sorry. pets really put limiting factors on rangers to prevent OPness and i think it shows most in their melee selection.

Guardian is ok. Its got an aoe pull, a sexy whirlwind and…oh wait they nerfed the symbol by doubling its recharge. Still i have to admit its not bad. But its dps is no different then the other melee weapons after they killed the symbols recharge. In the two hander department i think hammer is probably tops now although everyone that has/wants twilight/sunrise will deny it. Would probably take the staff over GS but thats more to do with its awesome (ofcoarse its dmg is weaker so dont go there!) auto attack and its piercing orb skill number 2, not mentioning it also has a symbol and i believe its recharge is much shorter then the GS one.

Mesmer plays wildly different. I do like this weapon for its range and you are infact encouraged to play at its full range. But even if you dont play at 900-1200 range there are some goodies. Skill 2 mirror blade is AMAZING in full beserker gear with high crit chance (ranger runes/ 25 perception stack) and even more so when traited for an extra bounce. if its just you and a foe it will hit 3 times and its not channeled so you can do other things and also when traited its like a whole 4.8 second recharge AND on top of that it makes a clone. VERY loaded skill OH and it gives you (or ally) might and foe 3 stacks of vulnerability PER HIT!

Ok so yeah i admit 2 of the 4 classes that can wield GS on i havnt had any serious play with other then golems on spvp isle. But 2 of them i have, warrior and mesmer. Of the 4, mesmer seems to be the one that has GS as a solid staple along with maybe staff. As a martial weapon though the other 3 ive gotten an ok feel of how they play and whats not so great about the greatsword:

warrior: despite the fact of all this weapons movement ability (too much?) i find its mobility to be its drawback. Self immobilize for like 3-4 seconds (this is its primary skill 100b) is aweful in almost every setting i can think of and worse when you miss.

guardian: it kinda falls inline with the warriors mobility issue. when traited (healing line 20pts i think) taking the recharge of whirling to 8sec is great until you realize you are over killing and worse you most likely are just fight the next foe a short jog away with your auto attack. I know that really only applies to trash mobbing but im pretty sure auto attacking with the hammer and placing a symbol down with autoattacking has to be worlds better. Not to mention i think skill 2 is a super fast recharging hard hitting huge aoe awesome skill more verbs please.

ranger: you poor things you ;-(

Sorry for the wall of text. Wasnt a rant (i dont think) but just some curiosity in the player bases infatuation with the GS. Oh and forgive the speelling ;-)

I'm officially a convert to sword+torch

in Guardian

i did some dps testing of auto attacks mainly but stacking things like symbols in aswell.

Just auto attacking the sword isnt much different then anyother melee weapon for dps and its 3rd skill in the chain has a better aoe and two extra hits to proc effects on. Id take that over the GS anyday tbh but im a warrior player and that spvp isle golems are a very static test so thats my 2cents on that anyhow.

Advice requested on weapon-stats and sigils/runes.

in Mesmer

Justine.6351

Im undercided about main set for wvwvw but for a swap try:
scepter & pistol and put on signet of domination (in any pvp setting a 2 sec stun if amazing)
There is a +% duration stun sigil for like 15% and im not sure but i think two will stack with eachother so use two. If not well just one and other of your choice.

Open with the magic bullet to stun and then —> use signet and eDuelist and then channel that scepter skill (Confusing images i think) is amazing dmg all by itself. And what makes it even better is its 5 confusion stacks. So after being stun locked (even if they break it you may be lucky and hit them with signet AFTER depending on how bad they didnt want to be stunned with bullet) and channel beamed for some good dmg they are going to be anxious to spam something but with 5 stacks of confusing (even with zero points into condition dmg) it hurts. Now granted if they are smart they will just use a condition removal but we are talking about wvw where any lvl 2 and up can join. You would be surprised.

TBH in wvw setting i would just go full on glass cannon with beserker gear and use the ranger runes. Also recommend GS and mantra of pain (i know i know it sucks charging it but its GOD for dps certainly when traited for 3 tics). Sigil i would just put in a +5% crit chance or if you never die because you are pro go with 25 stacks of preception for +12% crit chance. Honestly if you get 25 stacks and keep them thats pretty cool and in any case should still swap out for a weapon with +5% after getting 25 stacks.

I know it may be tempting to add defensive stuff to build but tbh mesmers are glass cannons and they have clones and stealth for a reason. If you are still getting killed its because the mob you were in pulled back and you were left out front. Well thats my take anyhow ;-)

How would you fix the warrior?

in Warrior

Posted by: Justine.6351

Justine.6351

warrior is OP.

love playing beserker warrior with axe/shield in regular pve. kill stuff faster then most and am durable. never even touch my healing skills as im getting enough healing ticks from blood sigil/ healing signet/ that one trait that regens based on adrenalin bar to the point of like 500hp a sec total. With +100% crit dmg (150% with the base) and an 80% crit chance without activating signet of fury the axes auto attack tears through pve.
love playing regen banners/ bleed stacker in spvp.
Ive mostly just taken my beserker warrior into wvw and used rifle but will switch back to axe/shield when an opportunity presents itself. Although i believe here i could probably benefit from some sort of regen banner/bleed stacking with rifle type build if running with a 5man team or larger.

If you are hating warrior, try using something other then greatsword, because yes, compared to axe, it sucks. Its made even more apparent in a pvp setting. axe auto attack does ~ the same dmg (maybe a tiny bit less) and you get the offensive and defensive asspects of a shield. YES i said offensive. Try nailing someone in the back with shield bash. A trick with shield is to trait to reflect missles. My general traits are:

20 power line: 12% dmg full adren bar, 10% crit dmg axe
10 precision line: 40 precision/ signet (i run mostly signets which is lame but i do swap in when i need)
20 toughness line: blocking reflects projectiles, +90 toughness and -20% shield recharge
20 crit dmg line: 9% crit chance with full adren bar, run faster while melee
gear is full beserkers and ruby orbs on armor. still need to figure out how much crit chance i want but currently i run blood sigil on shield and am still testing between 25 stacks of precision or 25 stacks of bloodlust. with bloodlust crit chance is like only 68% but with precision stack its like 80%. I need to get an alt weapon with the +5% crit chance sigil and start swaping it out once i got full stack but im too lazy ;-(

"Mesmers do crap DPS" True or False (Not a rant by me)

20 power to get GS trait -20% recharge
30 precision/crit dmg to get 16% dmg from mantras (lame i know)
20 illusion tree to get -20% rechage on illusion skills and +1 bounce

Beserker’s gear with ranger rune set up to 5 and then either 1 more ranger rune or a +25 precision rune, your choice.

Get a GS with perception sigil (250 precision) and a swap or a swap out GS with a +5% crit chance. Want to aim for 80ish crit chance if you are rolling ~ +100% crit dmg.

Try to keep ~ 600 range. its not max dmg with GS auto attack but you want to be close enough to foe to get bounces from skill 2 mirror blade. Since mirror blade is now traited to 4 bounces it hits you 2x times for 6 stacks of might and hits the foe 3 times (each hit is pretty decent dmg) AND places 9 stacks of vulnerability for +9% dmg. Whats great about two of your traits is the GS trait and the first minor illusion trait stack additively for -40% recharge on weapon skills that create illusions. Mirror Blade Creates a clone so it recharges in just 4.8sec. If your foe hasnt melted in 4.8sec it will soon be dead since you hit for alot but dont be afraid to recast to finish off a foe as its only a 4.8sec recharge. The warrior GS loves the skill 100b at that is traited down to 6.4sec and recharge isnt a problem on that if that says anything.

So just putting up 4 mantras and autoattacking + skill 2 should be ALOT of dmg for you without even thinking.
If you feel compelled try putting in mindblade for its fast cast and hard hitting small aoe aswell as ibeserker ofcoarse. And if you are really crazy about spiking something down use up your two free uses of mantra of pain.

i went with precision/cond dmg/power set at lvl 50 and use GS. With trait that dodge rolls clones with high precision your clones will stack bleed REALLY high. Also when you crit there is a minor trait in that line that gives you 1sec of vigor so you can dodge roll ALOT. However, at lvl 80 im fairly certain im going to change to beserkers but use Rangers rune set (5) and (1) rune for anotehr 25precision. its like 190 precision and 8% crti dmg. You can trait bounces +1 and skill 2 (mirror blade) hits hard when its traited to bounce 4 times. Your target will get pummeled by the mirror blade 3 times. Since mirror blade is an illusion creating weapon skill you get -20% recharge from the GS trait and -20% recharge from the minor trait in the illusions line taking its recharge down to like 4.8sec. It hits so hard you may find you only need to cast it once or maybe you do cast it again at 4.8sec by the time you move to next foe it will be recharged. People use 100b with a recharge of like 6.4sec so 4.8sec is good considering its 3 free hits while you are channeling auto attack. Also i know its a pain to use but consider learning how to drop mind blade. Its a fast cast aoe that hits fairly decent dmg. If you really want to blow stuff away fast then consider learning how to use mantra of pain. its free dmg so long as after a fight and running to next mob you recast it.

Im only lvl 57 atm but it does look promising. If you cant stand berseker then stacking bleed with GS clones and rampagers gear would be the way to go.

Beserker and Warden alterations perhaps?

im sure people have fallen in/out of love with these two but a tweak i would love to see is:

Beserkers being immobile like the wardens currently are and using 100b. Perhaps that would be overly OP and i can understand that people like beserker as is right now cause it cripples and carries itself out of melee range so it isnt 1hit killed by any aoe melee attack. i just think GS on any class should be dps and i do love the wardens aoe effect. I actually wish that was the GS skill but not much point swapping them now that game is launched.

Warden should move. Maybe it should be immobile while not attacking but once its whirling axe starts up it should attempt to move towards its target. If its close enough it would atleast catch the foe some of the time. I mean, arnt all the whirling attacks mobile already even if at a reduced rate like guardians whirling wrath?

Just feel that these two skills should swap their basic effects, beserker = immobile hard aoe hitter and warden = whirling axe with some limited mobility and possibly take beserkers cripple and toss it on here to keep foes in range of warden better.

while im suggesting, is mind blade a terrible skill or am i missing its true function beyond its tiny aoe? I see that it casts fast and hits aoe and hits decent dmg, i just feel using it is clunky and often just ignore it. probably wishful thinking but this would be a fun pull skill. pull up to five foes to where you target and cast mindblade. I know i know i just wish i could wield GS and focus !

at how sensitive you kids make the being banned for botting problem sound i should have been banned like 10x over.

Ive fallen asleep many times and gotten bumped for afking too long
Ive run around nooby areas on my guardian spamming the staffs auto attack and waving everything infront of me down for laughs.

well ok thats two things.
I have spotted bots for the first time the other day camping a bridge event with centaurs attacking it. were 4 there. 2 in the water attacking same spot waiting for trash mobs to respawn and 2 auto attacking the area in front of the broken bridge. Gave them like 1 min each after the event and then just reported for botting. The game is not that hard to play…

Account is disabled but I really useless BOT

the title itself is a confession. Useless or not, botting is a fast way to being banned.

What did you do to my Flesh Golem?

When i was testing stuff on spvp isle i noticed of the all the minions that the golem would auto attack all by himself. Im assuming they dumbed him down to counter people just afking in nooby areas with ever persistent golems. Note that golems regen out of battle while the other minions do not.

On a side note, have they done anything to change turrets? those things were designed for afk botting it seems like and its shameful.
