After running around with a longbow and remorseless for a little bit I found out you can actually get a lot of vulnerability on a target with opening strikes and rapid fire, and maybe adding 5% or 10% damage to a vulnerable target is a little op.

I just wish you didn’t have to take a grand master trait for your 3 minor traits to work so I can make a signet build without sacrificing some invested points.

IF you take longbow…I was trying to make it more universally appealing since most Grandmaster traits, with the exception of a few, do not require you to use a certain weapon to get the most out of it. Certain skill types yes, but rarely a single weapon option.

Why would you be running 30 or even 25 in Marksman if you weren’t using a bow? It’s still not going to be usiversally appealing, and there are better options in different lines if you’re not going with bow.

Personally, I would like to see Opening Strike and Alpha Training combined and Precise Strikes brought down to master. For the now empty grandmaster slot remorseless would be nice but unlikely. So perhaps +10% damage against vulnerable foes. If remorseless were demoted it could be replaced with a trait that causes opening strike to cause daze/stun/knockdown/knockback.

Sounds familiar. Opening strike remains very limited and situational, but at least it makes a remorseless build more meaningful with the bonus damage.

Concidering that every stack of Vulnerability is 1% increased damage against the target already asking for +10% is probably a bit much, which is why I went with 5%.

I have piercing arrow and I can fight single targets just fine without agroing everything else around it.

If you stand in one spot, sure. Some of us move around, dodge, evade like we’re supposed to.

If you’re fighting one thing, what possible reason could you have to need to dodge and evade?

Ranger + Party = Kick?

Hell, until recently my main still have a few piece of fine gear and more level 70s stuff than 80. I did all my dungeon running in that stuff and never had a problem.

There’s really no excuse for this. By the time you’re 80 you should have close to 200k karma. Just go to any of the temples in Orr and buy exotic level 80 armor/jewelry for 42k karma apiece.

The excuse is simple. I don’t care and I don’t need to care. Like I said, I’ve done the dungeons and I don’t die and I survive better than my group consistently. In any case it doesn’t matter since I finally got all my mats and am in exotics, only my bow and accessories are rare, everything else is either exotic or ascended.

As for my bear, it’s actually an excellent reason, especially for the handful of bosses that have glitchy designs and get stuck on my bear then don’t seem to be able to do anything once there. The berserker in the flame and frost dungeon worked that way. He agroed on my bear but couldn’t actually hurt it, and because of that he didn’t attack the rest of the group.

You’re supposed to submit a bug report when this happens, then switch to a different pet so as not to exploit the bug.

Sorry, but I’m not getting my party killed because they(ANet) can’t handle how pet and mob agro works out between eachother.

As for my spending gold on gear I was going to replace, there’s no point. The actual difference in the numbers is not significant, and anyone who thinks differently needs to just get over themselves. I was waiting until I’d accumulated enough mats to make the elites myself, and I’ll be kitten ed if I’m going to spend gold on something I can get for free.

See above about karma armor from Orr. If you’ve gotten fine transmute stones from black lion chests or map completions, once you replace the karma armor with your crafted exotics you can transfer the runes to white armor off TP, salvage them, and sell them for several gold apiece. (I haven’t done the math to see if this or the orrian jewelry boxes are a better way to make money from karma.)

Concidering this requires fine transmutation stones it doesn’t sounds like a reasonable trade off. Besides that I run Cleric, it’s the reason I’m hard to kill, so I don’t want any of the random gear I can find in Orr, just because it’s exotic isn’t a reasonable excuse to pick it up. As far as I’m concerned all that junk is just that, if you happen to use that spec, fine, I don’t. Other than that it’s good for appearance, if that’s the look you’re going for, which I’m not.

We’re talking minor traits here… meaning Piercing Shot would be a minor trait.. given to you for free for putting 25 points into marksmanship. Which means they can replace it with something else entirely.

No. Just no. I know that piercing arrows are “required” for WvW, but the ranger gets a grand total of two single-target main-hand weapons – shortbow and longbow. If you make piercing arrows automatic, you make it virtually impossible for a ranger to fight a single red mob mixed amongst a bunch of yellow neutral mobs in PvE.

Piercing arrows is fine where it is – a selectable trait. Turn it on/off as you need it. If you want to add more to it go ahead (I doubt Anet will since it’s already a highly desirable trait as-is). But do not make it un-selectable.

I have piercing arrow and I can fight single targets just fine without agroing everything else around it.

Ranger Leveling Help

in Ranger

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

Just started a Ranger after a long time choosing my profession but I still have no idea what to do. If anyone could help me with these things it would be great!

General advice on leveling a Ranger. Kill things and do events. Do map completion for the cities first and you’ll start the game, effectively at level 10. Go through all the starter zones and you’ll be level 30-40 before you really “do” anything.
What weapons to use (I really like the shortbow and longbow so if any of those could be included that would be cool) All of them. Play with all of them, learn all the skills on all of them, and you’ll learn what you like.
Where to put my trait points. Put them in the lines corresponding with the weapons and skills you prefer. When you’ll level 11 click on the grandmaster trait of each line and find the XI and XII traits that you feel you can’t live without and start putting points into that line first. Don’t put less than incriments of 5 into any line you like. If you aren’t going to get the next minor or major trait, don’t waste the point.
What pet to use.The ones you like.

Good for you, you’re now using the only weapon in the game across all classes that only works properly when its auto attack isn’t automatic.

I agree because a lot of minor traits will be underwhelming for different builds but useful for others, but I don’t think all three minors and one grand master trait in one trait line should all revolve around one situational idea.

It sometimes makes me regret going into marksmanship without planning on taking remorseless because I wont get the synergy I want from the trait line.

So I just went through all of the trait lines of all the classes and I learned that most of them don’t synergize at all. Only one line per class really synergizes completely, and a couple classes have a second trait line that has a bunch of things happen in specific conditions but otherwise don’t synergize well.

For Ranger Nature is our synergizing line. Gain regen(boon) at 75% hp, share boons with pet, deal 5% more damage while having a boon. Marksmen is our conditional a bunch of stuff happens together line. First shot inflict vuln, pet does it too, first shot is a crit.

Although most trait lines don’t synergize most trait lines also don’t have 3 minor traits revolving around the same thing. Its ok if one maybe two minors don’t work for your build, but usually you will at least find one minor in a trait line that will be like the cherry on top for your build.

Also nature magic does synergize very well even though its purpose might be spirits, a lot of builds can gain something from investing into nature magic imo.

Like I said, only some of the other classes have a line like Marksmen, Mesmer is one that revolves around phantoms doing things, for engineer it’s explosives. And it’s still only one line in the set for those that do. Ours is the worse, though, because it’s the most conditional.

What do you think of my suggested synergy just about your post?

For a properly synergized trait line it should be, % chance to inflict vulnerable on crit, pet shares trait, 5% more damage to vulnerable targets. This might actually help fix a lot of problems since it becomes so easy for us to put vulnerable even without the first two traits, we get an automatic 5% bonus on top of the increased damage from vulnerable itself. Would that work for everyone?

One major change I’ve actually been wanting to see is switching the Condition duration and Critical Damage attribute bonuses from Marksmanship and Skirmishing. Just throwing that out there.

So, you want crit damage and crit chance to not be on the same line? Does that really make sense?

Does it really make sense to have a bunch of trap traits on Crit and crit damage line?

That’s a different matter entirely. I do agree that the lineup isn’t necessarily reasonable and it would be nice to have conditions in the same place as traps. But I like getting a longer duration on my cripples and vulnerables with marksmen, even though that’s really all the conditions I have.

Ah, well yes. I would have also accepted because people are stupid and imature. At the same time since I only join groups through gw2lfg.com I just avoid all the ones with the extra crap. I will never understand the expectation that someone know how to do a dungeon perfectly without ever having done it before, or that no new people ever be allowed to do one, basically.

Most people don’t expect someone that’s new to know how to run a dungeon perfectly. We expect new people to speak up and let the rest of the group know.

That’s what I said:

I think the first 2 should be combined, the grandmaster moved to master, and the grandmaster changed to piercing shots.

No no no no no… did I say no? NO!
Why are you trying to mess with piercing shot? You’re trying to force me to choose between personal invulnerability and having a useful weapon, really? That’s not acceptable.

There was already a thread about this since zeniths started appearing. I agreed to that one too. Unfortunately I don’t know if there is anything they can do about the book since I don’t think it was specifically tied to an achievement. The same goes for the wintersday backpack. Everything since then, though, I believe has been directly tied to actions taken for achievements.

Again, I’m not certain, it is possible there was an achievement, in which case it should not actually be that difficult for them to add it. And they definately should add it.

How to fix the major flaw with his game

Kal Spiro.9745

@Tom, i think you pretty rude to people with a different opinion then yours. for people like you i hope ==> GO AWAY PLEASE the community dont need rude people like you. @Mike i can see why you see it like that. Imo i think there is little use to spec your character anything else then DPS. why? because there is no use to do it. for PVE anyways. and in WvWvW you spec for AoE dmg. it no or little use to do close dmg while you die on the way to your target. @Tom, still with me? i hope iam not going to fast for you. Because yes those a flaws. I like the switch weapon and different skills. but i dont like you can not spec the way you want that it helps the others. like interrupts etc. see the youtube of kaboose. Then the reward system is broken. even if you do almost nothing chances are you still get beter loot then other people who work their kitten off. And wht about all those SP people in this game? its for crying out loud an MMO. There is no use to do for rewards nothing else then CoF path 1. gives the most loot and most gold. And mostly you get the people who do the most dmg. And it still hasnt anything to do with WoW but how they make those fights. you can not interrupt any skills of an boss. and how about the world bosses at this moment? they are stupidly easy to kill. no skill involved. Even WoW sucks imo, it had more tactics then GW2 today in bossfights. but there is also a little light at the end of the tunnel they seem to fix that. And i hope really the actions will effect your character since now it doesnt matter. For Mike i really can see why you feel about this game. to bad people like Tom are so rude and do not want to go into discussion about this. They ruin the game to the core and the community. Anyways if you stop playing this game i hope you wont feel like everyone in this game is like Tom. Have fun with your game. And maybe we see eachother again in this game. Good luck.

You’re very polite. Good on you for trying to have a decent discussion about a stupid topic. Nothing you said was actually relevant to what Mike’s specific issues with the game are, though. They are, in fact, flaws, and they have been addressed in better more reasonably titled threads, but they aren’t the flaws Mike sees. The flaws Mike sees are that mechanically GW2 doesn’t work like WoW and games like WoW, like SW:TOR.

Things should be done to change the state of the game, and the points you addressed, but none of them would address Mike’s issues, and the issues Mike has should not be addressed because they are issues for Mike, not the game.

Well, it depends entirely on your build and prefered weapon. My main is a Longbow ranger, it’s a power based weapon and Marksmen is power and bow-centric so it made sense to go 30 in it. And while the master trait in skirmish about longbow is nice, I’m not willing to give up some other things to get it.

My new ranger is axe main hand. I went 20 into skirmisher for Honed Axes. If I wasn’t going Beastmastery 30 I would have gone for Trap Potency.

Start asking how fights go on COF1, and people will vote kick you because they expect you to know the fights already. If they dont, its only because it would take a minute to replace you that they dont want to spend.

I’ve done all the dungeons and I use longbow and brown bear primarily. Longbow because I’m specced Marksman, and Brown Bear because it’s the most durable.

Thats neither the right reason to use those things, nor even remotely optimal. This is part of why groups kick rangers.

…….and if they knew that, they’d have probably kicked you from many explorable groups. Not being bothered to spend 1g on a full set of lvl80 rares to wear while earning tokens for your exotics basically means you let your groups carry you. People expect each other to pull their weight. A guy in a level 80 explorable wearing lvl 70 blues and greens isnt doing that.

Longbow brown bear rangers are usually bad, and groups in MMO’s have a tendency to not be nice people.

Well, concidering I don’t die in dungeons, or generally ever, and in every instance of a dungeon in which there was a legitimate wipe I was the last person down, occationally even able to finish off the boss solo, I’m going to say your elitist views have nothing to do with the actual reality of how I play my class.

You are right about one thing though, I’m not using longbow because I’m specced marksman, I’m specced marksman because I use longbow. I like longbow and the way it looks so I made it work for me the best I could. I’ve been playing another game more recently, Star Wars: The Old Republic. That game is actually quite bad in many respects, I could write a book about how poorly executed it is…

That’s coo, I left TOR because of the disappointing decisions the Devs consistently made for it. One having been that they forced it to be a Trinity game when it really didn’t need to be.

I left it for GW2 because after 6 months I’d competed all the content and just didn’t care at all about it anymore. Now in GW2 after almost a year, I’ve long since competed all the content outside PvP and I can’t get enough. I repeat level 1-15 areas because they’re fun. The game is fun. Only having to worry about keys 1-0, rather than five bars worth of powers is amazing. I’ve played all the classes and have one of everything but Mesmer plus two rangers and thieves. Every single one of them plays completely differently and It’s great.

The benefit of limiting your skills to 10 is that you can have a dozen of the same class and have them all be completely different. In TOR every instance of the same class has the same powers, and then three trees, that change the class to one of two playstyles. For every instance of a class you know what to expect, with minor differences that don’t really effect how they play. So in GW2 you can cater to a hundred different play styles, and in TOR you’ve got about 8, give or take, since imp and rep are just mirrors with textual and visual flavor as their only differences.

Ranger doesnt mean archer so thinking that the bow is our signature weapon is another mistake.

From guild wars site…under professions.
Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/ranger/

Does this really need to be repeated yet again?

Stop praising the profession page on GW2.com! There has yet to been given an official response as to what they mean with “unparralelled archers” and the part after that simply states that bows are a ranged weapon (derp)

I think you’re missing the point. He’s just pointing out that ANet does point out the bow over every other weapon available to them. According to the class page Ranger DOES mean Archer and the Bow is our signature weapon. A statement in direct contention to the specific responce he was arguing with.

On the other hand, there is still GETTING the gear on your level, USING trait points(at level 62, I had to buy both masters and grandmasters manual, that’s, how much I cared about traits. It went fluent and I killed stuff quickly, so I never bothered looking at what my equip/traits are like) and just standing behind a nigh unkillable(in open world anyway) bear and autoattacking.

Sorry, but this is just how the game works. It has nothing to do with being a Ranger. The only class I don’t have is a Mesmer because I just can’t get behind them. I have 9 characters with an average level of 50, and that all play like this. This game is not that hard. Granted I don’t just auto attack, that would be stupid, but your traits and gear are not all that important where the greater world is concerned. Hell, until recently my main still have a few piece of fine gear and more level 70s stuff than 80. I did all my dungeon running in that stuff and never had a problem.

The probability that a guy who just got to level 80 today knows what he’s doing, very low.

How does this one make sense. If you don’t know how to play your class by, generously, 50 you’re doing something very wrong. Who doesn’t know every aspect of their character by 80? You got your last relevant skill 40-50 levels ago and have just been building your traits.

There is more to a dungeon than knowing how to play your class. You also have to know the dungeon itself, and its improbable that a day 1 level 80 knows the dungeon. Imagine what would happen to a longbow + brown bear Ranger in CoF path 1 when he starts asking how the fights go, or when he gets left in the dust as the groups run past the trash?

Um, he asks, and the group tells him, just like for any class?

I’ve done all the dungeons and I use longbow and brown bear primarily. Longbow because I’m specced Marksman, and Brown Bear because it’s the most durable.

yep. he, i, we can walk away. but until you’re afflicted with this ocd thing? don’t think you can understand it.

Oh I understand, I just managed to break the spell. Back during windersday when I realized just how bad I am at every sPvP mini game they make and therefore could never get all of the achievements that existed I gave up and stopped trying to get them. Otherwise, if I have a chance I’ll still subject myself to it. I’m just not willing to blame other people for playing the way the area is designed to be played.

To me a griefer is not someone who does something because they can. A griefer is someone whose purpose is to ruin your day. This is why griefing is something that exists outside of PvP, because the general PvP mentality is exactly that. You’re a dualist, you want to test your skill against someone else. I can respect that and understand, but to me a PvPer just wants to kill everyone where ever they can.

WvW is a cluster kitten, it’s not PvP, not really. It’s barely even world PvP, it’s just a cluster. In the JP, PvPers with a PvP mentality can have their open world PvP where nothing is of conciquence and the only objective is to ruin someones day. So, the key remains, avoid them. Leave the zone, go do something else, come back later and hope they’re gone or that your side has replaced them.

The problem, most rangers face is -justified- prejudice.
There are just so many bear+longbow-I-will-keep-firing-into-this-feedback-bubble-till-I-die-rangers out there, it’s mindblowing.
Like the worst of the worst players sat together, discussed for a bit and then decided, everyone of them shall play a ranger.

Yeah, after playing around with a lot of different builds and other classes, I think this is it. It’s not that ranger sucks, it’s that a large fraction of the ranger players suck.

For the most part, the other classes have to adapt or die. If they’re using a terrible build or tactics, they die. Often. Enough for the player to get frustrated and change their build/tactics, or quit to try another class.

Not so with ranger. You can have a terrible build, and your pet will still tank and kill stuff for you. So players don’t get the feedback (deaths) from the game telling them that their build or tactics suck and they need to change something. The players who were constantly dying when they tried to play elementalist or thief or even guardian, they start a ranger and find they still live despite their dumb mistakes, and decide they’ve found “their” class.

And as a result, most of the sucky players end up as rangers.

But, if death is the penalty for being bad, and as rangers they don’t die, how does this, then define them as bad. They are succeeding at not dying, and I’m sorry but your pet is not going to save you if you don’t know how to play. Just look at all the threads from rangers asking to get rid of their pets because they die. If a ranger is saved from death because of how they use their pet they are a good ranger, not a bad player.

Tasks are things you need to do. They’re not tasks, cause you don’t need to do them.

I would like to know what games you’re playing where none of the achievements are just do a lot of X. Kill things in Y way, or with Z weapon. Or better, do a part of the game that you have to do to finish the game at all.

That’s what achievements are, and have always been.

At the same time, a lot of the achievements are quite pointless, and add absolutely nothing to the game that achievements that reward the player for doing something difficult, or discovering a hidden place.

Getting a certain amount of skill points, doing a certain amount of DE’s. These are pointless achievements, since you’d accomplish them anyway, the Slayer titles; you don’t need to actually do anything special to get them. It’s like giving a person a well done for getting through college, regardless of the grade they recieve.

I’m going to have to ask you the exact same question, apparently. What games are you playing where this is not the case?

again, if it were a situation where skill counted, not a situation where a few can restrict the movements of a couple? i wouldn’t complain. if it were a situation where it wasn’t so obvious these are doing it just because they “can,” i don’t think i’d have an issue. but the situation, as it exists, in my mind, promotes griefing. it promotes the ability of those few idiot pvpers who have to slaughter pve bunnies in order to feel superior, gives them an easy outlet for it, and that’s something i’d really love the designers to reconsider. in my opinion, it is outside the scope of what arenanet has promoted, thus far, in this game.

just my opinion ;-)

Dunno, that’s just how I view open world PvP. That is how it works. If you see other people, they are probably kittens and out to ruin your day. That’s why they’re there in the first place.

The benefit of WvW over open world PvP servers is that you can leave and continue to play the game. I absolutely do not subscribe to going to the other WvW zones and begging people to come help clear out a rival server. I say stop, leave, and come back later.

Unlike your situation with the guy in WoW you don’t have to stop playing the character you’re playing in order to avoid the PvP. You can just go somewhere else. That’s how I got it.

Also, the Kite meta doesn’t give a thing, it’s just there. It doesn’t even contribute to the event meta. As such the only thing you miss out on is the 15 or whatever points of the kite meta and the 1 or so of the JP kite. If all you want is the event prize there are more than enough achievements available to never even approach subjecting yourself to anything that even hints at PvP.

Previously you had to be very lucky to apply vulnerability to multiple targets because you had one shot at it. Now it’s really easy, I mean who doesn’t saw through mobs with Rapid Shot. Rapid shot is also up more often than hunter’s shot, by 2 seconds, so you get to use it more too. So while your damage has gone down, you’re spreading out your conditions more often.

So you can start with Rapid Shot, sawing vuln through a mass of mobs, then pop the new hunter’s shot, making them stop in their tracks. They don’t lose agro on you, but they lose targetting and just stand where they are, or cluster on your pet. While they’re being stupid you position your barrage over them, with more consistent vuln damage per hit across the group, and have until the first arrows land before anything even has a chance to interrupt you. Get some distance and if anything gets too close point blank them all the way back to where they came from with increased range.

if anything, you just got a DPS increase on Rapid Fire. As each shot will do +1% damage squared more then the last. if the game mechanics isn’t completely up-side-down

Until you realize you used to be able to do +10% damage across the board by hitting hunter’s shot first, then Rapid Shot. So the first hit now does 10% less damage, and while the next shot does 1% more than the first, it’s doing 9% less than before. It isn’t until the last 3 shots that you’re actually doing full damage again.

I honestly don’t see the point of giving stealth to Hunter’s Shot. IMO, it would be perfect for the shortbow after the range nerf, but the longbow is meant to be used at very long range, where it’s easier to avoid ranged attacks, and it already has a counter against melee attacks in Point Blank Shot.

I’ve been trying to point this out but people keep shouting me down otherwise.

It’s a longbow. You should be at quite a bit of range. We basically lost DPS for slight utility that honestly doesn’t even do that much good. I’m aware you can stealth+rez but you will not get the rez off in time and the dps loss IS NOT WORTH IT.

There is no such thing as being at quite a bit of range. Things run at you, and no matter how good you are at mobility they will catch you. Stealth helps give you breathing room.

That’s why you’re supposed to kite and keep moving about.

Do you pve only? Just a question.

I wvw/spvp. SB+GS.

I know that this is irrelevant but I am fairly experienced in terms of mmo pvp. 2500+ Hpal, 2400+ frost dk, 2200+ feral druid/warrior/resto sham/disc priest on WoW.

First off, you’re right, those are complete and utterly irrelevant, and pointless bragging.

Second, Short Bow is not Long Bow. Just isn’t.

Third, I will admit that my build makes me much less in need of mobility because it’s hard to kill, but no, that is simply not a thing.

Unless you have some specific build in mind and you feel that anyone who isn’t using that specific build is bad, which is ludicrous, I really can’t imagine where you even get this from.

In any case, now that I’ve had the chance to play with this power, even though I don’t run any of the skills that would really make it shine, I do enjoy the stealth if for nothing else than what the Dev pointed out. Being able to start off Barrage unmolested, even when completely surrounded by mobs.

Seeing it get fixed is actions speaking louder than words. Lets see that action!

P.S. my head is still spinning from a buff patch with no nerfs and now all this dev participation in the ranger forum…. Hope I’m not stuck in some alternate universe.

If it makes you feel better the swap from bleed to vuln on GS is reporting a decrease in DPS which would constitute a nerf. Also putting vuln on rapid shot means none of the hits from rapid shot get the benefit of 10 stacks of vuln like they would have previously, which would also constitute a potential decrease in DPS, so also a nerf.

Precise Strike looks as though it’s requiring you to get out of combat first before you can crit again. We’ll look into this and get a fix in when we can. Thanks for the report!
Also, it’s good to make sure this sort of thing is reported in the game bugs section as well.

-Karl

While you are at it, make sure the vulnerability stacks also apply as they should. I forgot to pay attention to that part.

Why it the use of overwhelming position, tactics, and personel griefing? Especially in WvW, which the JP is. Does that mean every time a zerg takes a keep, or more importantly defends one successfully they’re griefing? I mean all the enemy players want is the reward of owning that keep, why is someone getting in their way?

This is not just PvP, it’s WvW. This is how the game is played. They position themselves to stop you. If you don’t want to be stopped you need to have the support necessary to do something about it. If you can’t, too bad.

If they go and stick an achievement location inside an sPvP made then you can complain about the PvP aspects. This isn’t sPvP, it’s open world combat.

The achievements will skew results

in Cutthroat Politics

Kal Spiro.9745

As an important mechanic with long-term effects, it’s unfortunate that election results will end up being relatively inaccurate (except in the case of a landslide) because of requiring support of both candidates to get all achievements. If, for example, it takes player x longer to get the homeland support achievement for Ellen than it does for Evon, more support will be given to Ellen, regardless of the player’s intended choice.

It would have been better to only allow support of a single candidate with more achievements, larger achievements, and/or achievements of a higher value for the individual candidates. With that, each player’s “vote” would have been clear and identifiable, rather than a mix of support between two candidates with the assumption that the player will actually keep playing and supporting his/her chosen candidate long enough to render their necessary support of the other candidate irrelevant.

If you care more for Evon than Kiel put two tickets in for Evon for every one for Kiel. You get twice as many buttons you don’t need, but so what? Button use has nothing to do with the vote, only tickets do. So if you need more Kiel buttons you just have to make sure to also put tickets in for Evon to even it out. It isn’t like they’re hard to get, even without just buying them.

I have the same difficulties and deficiencies as you. I still succeeded against the odds because I was determined. Therefore you have no valid argument.

This does not mean as much as you claim. When I got the achievment, there were people camping the spawn point. Getting past these campers was fairly easy because all I really needed to do was run past them while they were distracted by players from another server.

However, at the same time, I have experience with camping the arena with a necro wearing level 25, mostly blue and white gear and keeping multiple people down there with little danger to myself. The only reason those players ever got up was because I stopped doing it after being disgusted with how easy it is.

What does this tell us? Circumstances are everything. Just because you finished while there are campers does not mean it’ll be just as easy for everyone else.

You missed the point entirely. I happened to get through campers on my third attempt. The first two I just stopped and quit because they killed me. Then I came back and tried it again. And again. It isn’t my ability to get through campers that got me the achievement, because clearly I don’t have one. I got it on accident because I didn’t actually know where the kite was and happened to move in that direction while running from a camper. But I got it because I kept trying, instead of whining about people killing me while I participated in something I wasn’t good and don’t enjoy in an area where the point is to kill people to prevent them from getting the reward at the end.

It’s not supposed to be easy. But if you care so much about it, you have only yourself to blame if you don’t get it. I will say, though, that I was disappointed that the kite meta doesn’t count toward the living story meta.

Kiel gets the shortsighted smartperson votes so everything seems in order here.

So you’re saying Evon is getting all the farsighted dumbperson votes?

No, Evon gets all the Farsighted votes period, smart or dumb, and the shortsighted dumb person. Three to one, totally fair.

What you don’t seem to understand, though, is that the vote is based on how many tickets each condidate gets and they specifically provided reasons for every single person to vote for both candidates multiple times.

Once I’ve taken care of all my Kiel acievements, though, I’m going to put all my tickets in for Evon because I think he is a much more interesting candidate.

Kiel is not a very big deal. She has not actually done much, and she is a soldier, not a politician. She has no business being on the council, she should be lead by the council. She makes boring decisions about boring situations, in a grand scheme. Evon, on the other hand, is a pirate in control of the biggest company in Tyria. He makes critical decisions like he would need to on the council on a daily basis. Also, as a business man he will and able to be far more cut throat that Kiel ever will.

The person that gets onto the council will influence the direction of the Living Story for the next two or more years. Who do we want there, the goodie two shoes, white knight Kiel, or the more sinister, and far more interesting Gnashblade? I want Gnashblade. I’m tired of reactive stories dealing with things that just come up. I want to go out and do things and I think Evon is the key to that.

New thing in Great Collapse

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

So, I’m not going to spoil anything but I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you guys that according to game lore, there was never a Canthan district. If you’ve done your research, you’ll know that the great collapse was formally an arts district.

I though it is stated by ingame canthans that it was, but maybe I’m mixing memories. I’m not sure but I though it fell because the architecture system (combined with outside game motives) didn’t support the structures correctly and fell but that it was Canthan…

Why would Elonians and Ascalonians have their own district but not Canthans? That feels really wrong and negatively discriminatory!

I think if the story involving the reconstruction isn’t related to Cantha you will get a lot of fans throwing torches at you no matter how good is what you build there instead as there are a lot of expectations about that.

Because the Canthans are somewhat xenophobic and also they blocked off travel and communication with outside areas. The other two haven’t. So it is reasonable that there would not be major groups of Canthans, even in the city. Currently the only major Canthan representative in the game is a pirate.

I personally loathe these minigames (like all of em), it really annoys me i need to do em so frickin many times if i want to get the achievements or some skin. Sure i can enjoy em for 3 maybe 5 runs, after that they just bore me to death. And then it becomes a grind, and i dont really like grinding.

Just glad i dont have an OCD for achivements.

You don’t need to do any of the PvP minigames to get the meta. And if you don’t “need” the achievement points like you claim then there is no reason for you to ever participate.

This right here is the most important thing. No one who doesn’t enjoy them needs to EVER participate in them. I have no enjoyed the PvP minigames for a while. I had fun in Halloween, and I liked the Wintersday ones that weren’t competative, but the rest I have found unpleasant so I just avoid them. I don’t feel the need to say, “I don’t like them so no one should ever be subjected to them,” though, I simply don’t play them, and it has not interfered with my getting any of the special rewards in any of the events.

For me, the runes should stay locked behind dungeon tokens, but not account-bound. So we can sell them on the TP.

I agree with this, all runes should be bind on equip regardless of where you get them.
