There is no “entitlement” for something that is deserved. In this case, the proper term for it would be a “reward”.
But back to the point at hand. Having the bonus points for HoM is awesome in and of itself. I’m just suggesting that people with maxed out 50/50 could get a little bit extra. This idea is no different than getting your Quartz node for doing 16/16 Bazaar achievements.
It’s very different, in your point of view not only should people get the quartz node for 16/16 bazaar achievements but also receive one of back pieces free…
… on top of that get rewarded during next year’s bazaar with a new skin for having completed the event the previous year…
This is an erroneous representation of the suggestion and a terrible interpretation of efforts and work done.
Scale is definate, taking 555k damage in a fall, concidering I take half damage that was over a million points of damage in one shot.
I totally support getting this worthless PvP crap. Since I don’t PvP suddenly getting 100 commendations and then another 200 on top of that is really helpful for allowing me to continue to not do WvW and still gain progress toward my Legendary if I ever saw one that I actually liked.
I got GW1 1 year before GW2 came out. Played for around 4months (Sept ~ Dec 2011)
Got 30/30 on my account.
Helped g/f get 25/30 on her account.
Helped 2 more friends get 15~20/30 HoM.
I had fun.In 4 months. I didn’t even log that many hours…I work 9-5.
I’m 2300 hours into GW2 with 9.1k achieve, 9 lvl 80 chars including all professions each with 50%~100% map completion, R25 PvP, L50 FOTM, etc, yet I don’t have a precursor. I’m having fun.
Pretty sure I could 50/50 my gw1 account in a fraction of that amount of gameplay time if not less. You wanna show max dedication to guild wars? Buy gems to convert 600gold. You’ll have your precursor that way. Otherwise, just have fun.
It takes no time at all to 30/30, 50/50 is a whole other discussion entirely. It’s also the reason why 30/30 is the last level that gives a tangible prize.
I will never complete HoM, I will be lucky if I ever put in enough effort to actually pull off the points necessary to get all the “prizes” and I really want them. I think it is very cool that HoM is providing something like 500 points. All of that said, I have consistently felt it rather lame that all that anyone gets for completing HoM are a couple titles.
No, I don’t think titles are enough for how much effort some people have put in. I will repeat, I will never in my life benefit from this bonus, but I feel that this is not a bad thing. I am completely alright with a dedicated GW1 player creating a brand new GW2 account and automatically getting the first two bonus chests for free. Who exactly does it hurt, really?
I support this suggestion
Yes, please!
I support this, I would like participation from the start of an event chain to increase the value of the prizes at the end based on how you ranked in each of the events in the chain.
I got Eye of the North for the purpose of getting Hall of Monuments points, but I seriously don’t enjoy GW1 and have been unable to push myself to play it and get those achievements. As such I think anyone who played GW1 enough to get all the points deserve all the recognition they can get, and when all together it’s really just giving them one more day to wait before they get all their chests, it’s not that big of a problem.
awww you missed the golden years man, I started playing gw1 about a year and half before gw2 was released and maaaan, it was AWESOME!! i totally loved every moment of it, i still go back to play sometimes
I played the beta for it, and while I thought it was pretty I couldn’t stant the gameplay even then, so I don’t think it has anything to do with when.
Sadly yes it is. Which is silly. If my friends suddenly got a bunch of ap I would be happy for them. I wouldn’t say “well that’s not fair, I want those rewards too”. Simple enough really, go earn them.
Are you telling GW2 players to go out and buy GW1 so that they can remain competitive in GW2? Don’t you realize how absurd that sounds, to tell us to buy another game?
Speaking of absurd, do you know how absurd you sound even asking that question that has nothing even remotely to do with what he said? First off, how exactly will 500 achievement points make you competative, such that their lack puts you out of the running? Is 1% karma and a gold coin really going to put you on the top of the charts?
(edited by Kal Spiro.9745)
I actually got my chest suddenly, half an hour later, when I earned more achievement points by finishing a jumping puzzle, or possibly a daily. It was very random.

Um… the Gift of Quarts is not something you have, it should be in your home instance.
I was actually expecting a kite, not a parachute drop, but yeah, I expected something to happen, rather than nothing.
It’s all a timing thing, you have to figure out when the optimal time is for you to reach it safely. The problem, as I see it, is access. It’s entirely possible to completely lose access to the jumping puzzle entirely because you’re on a weak WvW server and your portal is owned by another server. If you’re weak enough it’s possible you won’t even manage to get it back until after the event is over, so you completely miss out.
I think, since they removed Obsidian Sanctum from the WvW zone they should remove it’s portal too and just give us a fifth WvW portal in LA that goes straight there. It will not change the makeup of the zone, just make it easier to reach.
Hey, as stated in another topic, I love the new achievements panel.
I suggest a few modifications though as I believe it still needs some polishing:
- Order the History category chronologically.
- Allow filters on completion.
- Remove inaccessible achievements from the “near completion” section.
- Add a search tool
I believe this would make this perfect.
By allow filters on completion, do you mean like the ability to have incomplete achievements display before completed achievements? If so, yes to everything.
People?
One person*
No, not anything is automatically crap, just the crap is crap.
It was crap enough before with tiers (which btw are still there) but this new coloured in stuff is for two year olds.
You disagree, fine, why bother stating so?
It doesn`t take a week or a month to spot bad ui changes.
People, because for EVERY single change, changes that no one even thinks twice about now, someone has felt the need to spray their hate across the forums.
I do like it. It’s a much better at a glance system. Significantly more user friendly.
You disagree, fine, why bother even starting a thread about it?
I bother stating so because you felt the need to come here and complain on the first day without even giving it a chance because it happened to offend YOUR asthetic sensibilities. Well, your OPINION is noted, and my counter opinion marked.
To sum up. More dagger and pistol skins?
Dagger I can definately see and needing attention. At least half the classes can use daggers so there’s no reason to leave them out. Pistols, though, only thief, mesmer and engineer use pistols. That doesn’t really seem like it’s worth the effort to support.
Then again, they keep doing longbow and only Ranger and Warrior can use that, as far as I know. Shortbow is Ranger and Thief. Sword goes to at least half. Greatword also at least half. Hammer is only Warrior and Guardian, I think. So I definately think daggers should be on the short list when making a limited set like these. And pistol has more range of classes, apparently, than some of the other things they’re doing. We definately do not need more greatswords either.

Achievements that can’t be completed anymore shouldn’t be shown on the nearly completed pane.
This, I’m apparently one kill away from Kryta Aetherblades.
For those that are concerned about why I didn’t just kill one Aetherblade forever ago, because I didn’t care and wasn’t trying to finish the acheivement. Now, though, I have this stupid thing looking me in the face every time I go to my acheivements pain.
I completely agree that achievements you can no longer progress should not show up in the pane, but more than that, achievements whose object of interest still exist in the game should be completeable. Aetherblade Assassin and Kryta Aetherblades should remain completable since there will always be Aetherblades in the new jumping puzzle.
Since the system shows you the “charm” action for other rangers’ pets when they’re still named juvenile.
Would be worthy to test for the Giant slayer achievement …
Actually it has nothing to do with the name. It pretends to give you the option when the pet exists without an owner. When a ranger zones in their pet loads immediately while the ranger does not. So there is a period of time where the pet appears to have no master and the system attributes it to a tameable pet, even though it isn’t, and if you try nothing happens.
(edited by Kal Spiro.9745)
The event started today, how did you miss it? In order to get the personal instance node you need to complete 16 of the acheivements
Where do you people come from? Any time anything is changed it’s automatically crap and the old way is better. I very much disagree. How about giving it time, I say a month but at least a week, see how it bothers you then.
Why would they make a full zone with waypoints if it’s not meant to be perminant? (Full zone meaning a new location on the map, rather than something within a zone that already exists, like all previous living story other than Southsun.)
I’m pretty sure this place is meant to be perminant, and a way to junk excess crating material for prizes.
This is why you don’t wait until the last second to do it.
Oh I don’t have a problem with things that I am physically incapable of completing becoming unfinishable because of a content change. My problem is that the acheivement is still there AND the object I need in order to complete the acheivement are there, but for an arbitrary reason they no longer work toward the acheivement. And like the OP said, it shows up on my main page saying I’m just one guy away from completing it.
If it’s going to tell me I’m almost done with it, and I can still kill Aetherblades in Kryta I should be able to actually finish it, if for no other reason than to make it go away.
More than that, there are still Aetherblades in the world. The Aetherblade jumping puzzle hasn’t gone anywhere, as such acheivements for killing them in general and killing them in Kryta should still be completable.
Wow, it’s been months since I’ve seen someone complain about monthlies and dailies, and it’s the old, “I want to get laurels faster and gear up all my characters at once,” complaint. Lovely. It’s just packaged in a different way.
exactly! I hate that this cap of conditions is the only thing keeping me from lvling a necro..
If that’s the only thing keeping you from leveling a necro, then just level it. Really? Play what you want, it doesn’t have to be optimal. And if it does, then you playing with the wrong groups.
The reported reason is bandwidth. I don’t really understand what that means, but that’s what they say.
What do you like to do? Open world, dungeons, PvP, WvW?
Hey guys, you probably all know I love being a BM, but me and my guildies were discussing this topic a few nights ago and I thought I’d share.
The main thing that holds the ranger back in PvE is our pet, as much as I love it dealing so much damage, we get bonned because it just flat out doesn’t scale off of us. So why not just make them scale? Well for starters that’d make ranger pets lose a lot of their uniqueness IE tank cats and DPS bears (as much as I’d love that) and itd remove some customization from the rangers. iE you couldn’t be a tanky ranger with a DPS pet.
However that’s not our only problem, the real kicker is that ATM every other prof deals 100% damage, where a ranger does ~60% and their pet does ~40%, this would be fine and all, if our pets didn’t get shafted all the time. NO OTHER PROFESSION gets a utility and damage loss for not utilizing their mechanic properly. Sure they all take a hit, but it’s not nearly as drastic.
What I propose is that they make it so rangers deal ~90% damage, and they make it so a ranger deals anywhere from 110%-120% damage while their pet is up, this way the rangers pet becomes a scary thing the enemy wants to bring down. Not only that but the ranger also isn’t totally shafted if the pet does and can still fend for themselves.
What are your guys thoughts?
Your concept that you can’t be a tanker ranger with a DPS pet, or reverse isn’t true. All they need is conditionals. Pet receives x% power from toughness and y% power from vitality kind of thing and less x and y% to those respective stats. Now if you have really high toughness and vitality but low power your pet has high power and lower toughness and vitality. DPS pet for a tanky ranger. If you choose that pet as a DPS ranger, though, since your toughness and vitality will invariably lower it works out because they don’t get much bonus to power and don’t lose much to toughness and vitality.
its the players not knowing how to play the ranger.
I bet most of the rangers that Q_Q heavily, try to play ranger as a GS/LB warrior… and that should explain everything.
I’ve been playing a GS/LB ranger since beta and I love it. I don’t know what there is to complain about. The problem is that the people don’t know how to play and also MMO players as a breed don’t understand that you don’t have to be optimal to be capable.
I’m great in Fracals and Dungeons. I may not do peak damage, and I have absolutely no group support, but I hold my own and I am hard to kill, which is often enough to get the group through things when needed. I don’t WvW often, I don’t enjoy it in general, but when I did I didn’t have any major problems that I could attribute to anything more than that I’m not very good at PvP. In a zerg I’m in a zerg. I die if I do stupid things, like let the enemy pull me from the group. If I play smart I don’t die and I get enough kills to be proud. If I’m on my own I usually get stomped because I’m bad at PvP. If they’re bad then I have a chance because I’m still hard to kill.
P.S. I don’t see how “spiritual and druidy nature oriented” can be fitted with
Greatsword brutally smashing his enemies… ROFL*
Key 2 and 3 are spiritual and druidy nature oriented when you merge with the spirit of a bear and eagle respectively to pull off the attacks. That’s how.
Apparently, as I’ve heard argued, ANet wants Rangers to be more spiritual and druidy nature oriented. As such rifles don’t fit.
I think that’s bunk and I really wish Rangers could have rifles as well.
Yes, and that’s not really relevant to a Ranger whose unique ability is passive.
Well, I’m not seeing my build so I’ll just post it here.
http://gw2.luna-atra.fr/skills_tool/?lang=en&code=3680007b1tm6m5mc70uak0a3c3jfrfsg4g8gq
The builder is old, but the build itself hasn’t changed despite that, so it doesn’t matter. I run in all Cleric gear. Longbow damage isn’t great, but when you need to get serious you have Greatsword. It’s very hard to die between regen and invunerability. Also your regen passes on to your pets and they’re pretty hard to take out too, as long as you pay attention.
Fine, name a Warrior skill that no Warrior uses. That’s the one that gets worked on.
Why should Rangers be able to dismiss their unique class ability for a bonus if none of the other classes can do that?
OK, I missread this. So no no no and no. There should be a celebration, ingame thing, just like all the other living story stuff, and that’s all.
(edited by Kal Spiro.9745)
Yes, Sword autoattack has been a problem forever, but they have no apparently seen fit to do anything about it.
Incidentally, you might want to add Sword to the title, so we know what you’re talking about.
Well, as a Cleric/Longbow/Greatsword Ranger, I have to say I’ve never felt handicapped. So I don’t see the problem. Longbow doesn’t do a significant amount of damage to begin with but Greatsword does a ton.
(edited by Kal Spiro.9745)
This seems plenty reasonable to me. I don’t see how this would adversely effect my Necro in PvE.
Remove the thief initiative mechanics and replace it with standard cooldown mechanics so the weapon skill’s mechanics would be the same for all classes
Yeah! And Mesmers shouldn’t be able to use their phantom/clones to gain certain benefits. And Necros shouldn’t have a second life pool with special powers. And Warriors shouldn’t have a special extra power with each weapon. And Guardians shouldn’t have three special skills with passive and active effects. And Engineers shouldn’t get two skills for each skill. And Elementalists should only have one set of skills per weapon. And Rangers shouldn’t have pets.
All the classes should work the same way and have nothing that sets them apart at all!
/sarcasm.
You forgot:
Thiefes shouldn’t have almost perma stealth, ports, evades, high mobility and high burst. If thiefes had the same cooldown on skills like other professions have they still will be thiefes.
and:
Mesmers still being able to use their phantom/clones to gain certain benefits. And Necros still having a second life pool with special powers. And Warriors with a special extra power with each weapon. And Guardians with three special skills with passive and active effects. And Engineers should have two skills for each skill. And Elementalists should have 4 bars of skills per weapon. And Rangers should have pets.Because Thief should have STEAL (a unique mechanism to their profession)
The point I was making is that is it the unique mechanic of the thief class. Each of those things was the unique mechanic of the class mentioned. As such, regardless of skills, no it wouldn’t be a theif because those specific mechanics are the only things that every instance of each class has in common.
Remove the thief initiative mechanics and replace it with standard cooldown mechanics so the weapon skill’s mechanics would be the same for all classes

No, he wants to spend $10 a month and get more than 800 gems worth of whatever because of it.
It’s really just not cost effective, they do better with the gem store.
If they ever give us the ability to do old Story missions it’s possible those achievements might become available again.
OR, wait until people have had their fill. This JP is going to be around perminantly, so you can do it when there aren’t a ton of other people, just like every other JP.
Everyone always has to rush there right away then gets annoyed that everyone else did the same thing and “ruined” their fun. Chill and give it time.
Troll Unguent definately doesn’t make the Ranger immortal.
Troll Unguent +condition dropping signet +regen signet +toughness signet (with 30 in Marksmen) make the Ranger immortal. Put poison on the ranger, he drops the condition. Hurt the ranger too much he hits toughness signet and gains invulnverable, Troll Unguent plus regen signet with +healing power, he heals to full while you flail at him. And then he dies because he’s run out of tricks.
I don’t PvP, but this is definately the build I use in the game and it’s the reason Ranger is my favorite. It’s the only build I ever used because it’s hard to kill. Not impossible, but hard. I don’t axe though, so not into conditions.
Hey Zardul and others, could u take a look at another concept for improving Pets?
Feedback appreciated
Hated it, but you already knew that.
Then people will just double-post.
And sometimes you don’t have the time to write a short message, to clarify that statement:
It takes a great deal longer to say things while using less words. Explaining things clearly is harder in short messages and they will take more time to write than long messages.true, but 95% of the walls of texts can be summed up, it’s also true that some of them are worth reading, but one doesn’t read 30 walls of texts just for the few worth it.
So don’t read it and move on. Is it hurting anyone that they feel they have a lot to say worth reading?
No, if it were supported you would already have systems in place to allow you to just do that. You’re allowed to do it, but it’s not supported. They aren’t giving you easier and better ways to do that sort of thing because that’s not their intent for how to play the game. Being supported and being allowed are in no way the same thing. It’s not supported, therefore any suggestion to make it easier is a waste of time.
6 secs/ ranger. 5 rangers= 30 secs… if they nerf the duration it become useless without other 4 rangers and team speak. except they make something like with the hide, if u was invu for x sec, u cant be for another x.
That measn you did not read the description. Half duration to allies.
The system isn’t designed to support your weapon swapping for a reason.
Didn’t say it was. I said an exotic safe box was a good idea.
Your point is pointless.
No, you just missed it.
Ok. This thread is about exotic safe boxes and whether they are a good idea. How does weapon swapping enter into it? I wasn’t asking for a weapon swapping feature for the Ele. I was saying a box for my exotic weapons to go to automatically would be nice.
Edit:
I also switch weapons around on my Guardian, Ranger, Warrior, Thief, Necromancer, Mesmer, and Engineer. They all have the same problem with exotic weapons ending up in random places in the inventory. I just mentioned Ele to make a point about that, as an example, not about weapon swapping.
Really? It’s not about swapping weapons in your inventory?
Wasn’t sure if this was suggested but I think this would be a good item to have. Mostly to store the number of weapons I use in fractals and keep them separated from the loot drops as I switch weapons throughout the run. And lastly the icing on the cake is keeping all items in this box hidden from the vendor seller tab. Thoughts?
Because that seems to be exactly what it’s about. The point being that this is not a feature of the game because this is not the style of play that ANet supports.
