I opened it, got a bell that was worth 10k order, 50k on TP. No idea why. It was just a bell that made sound. Unbreakable. If its anything like the others, its a one time use.

It isn’t a resource node as you have to fight to get the presents. It’s more like a interactive mob producing box. Why in the world would anyone want to farm them in WvW? There you have to worry about being attacked by other players AND mobs.

They aren’t in all low level zones. I’ve found them in asura and sylvari starter areas.

I like that they made this one a bit less harder. I want them to leave the clock tower one like it is cause I’m looking forward to trying to complete it next year. It’s a challenge.

I don’t want it “toned down” or to get it by crafting. Jeez last time I checked the crafting stations didn’t attack me. I would like to be able to get it by not getting killed by mobs. I would like to get it through normal game play. Doing map completion in a zone, completing hearts, doing DE’s etc. If I finish the zone I’m in I would like to go to the next one. Not just hang out some zone I finished already killing mobs in a quick respawn “safe” area. I would like to feel at the end that I actually earned it by avoiding dying during normal game play. That said, there is no cool reward from it that I know of and I don’t really care about getting it enough to bother with it. I’m just disappointed that zoning or logging out for the evening is dying.

I’ve found people to be generally helpful in game also. Every time I’ve asked for help, I’ve gotten it. When I’ve helped others they’ve said thanks. It’s a good community.

Harvest, craft (if you want), do the hearts and all the dynamic events. Make sure you do the daily achievement quest. If that doesn’t do it then move to one of the other starter areas.

You know, you run the risk of making the game a total pain for the non-cheaters if you are always gearing things towards the cheaters. That is a lot of experience to get in one sitting in one zone.

Ignoring everyone’s opinions one way or the other, I’d rather address strategy for an online game.

There are certain things that always stir up certain kinds of players. It’s a good idea to look and see what those things are, and even if you aren’t that kind of personality yourself, if you are a game developer, take into consideration the buttons that when pushed cause explosions. In the case of “collectors” the button is something to collect that they can’t get. These guys are the ones that buy collectors editions (deluxe, whatever you want to call it) and go above and beyond to get “stuff”. When they feel they are “unfairly” thwarted, they get frustrated with the game.

It’s pretty easy to avoid ticking these guys off. Just have a way for them to get the item through some mechanism. Heck some of the guys in this thread were willing to buy another deluxe edition to get the item.

By the way, I don’t want the hat. Unless they get a hat npc in game, I’m tired of town hats. They take up space and I don’t hang out in town just to show of town clothes.

The simplest solution would be to give all players the option to turn off viewing the icon.

As for the whispers, I don’t know the people’s motivation but I know on my server commanders and others ask in PvE map chat for us to jump into WvW at times when needed. However apparently they are not all agreed on whether or not this is a good idea because some of the WvW commanders in WvW obviously only want their guild or allied guilds there and insult everyone else.

On the other hand, there are some good commanders in WvW that give clear instructions and use their new recruits to their advantage wisely. I wish there was a way to see which commanders are in WvW easily before you go in and I would time it so I was in only when certain commanders were there.

I realize that people are individuals and some are unpleasant and rather incompetent at leading while others are skilled. Some people will lump all commanders into one group and decide the worst of the group is what everyone is. Only you and those close to you know which of the categories you fall into.

How do servers change from full to high and how do people get onto full servers if they check for certain times of day?

If it is tied to number of total accounts including those inactive for a while, then wouldn’t populations just go up and stay up and never show up as high instead of full?

I notice that in my guild list if people are not playing for days their location shows as “unknown”. Perhaps after a certain time those types of accounts are not counted in the server census.

I played GW1 for years also.
What I miss are the pre-sear area, the missions, the variety of skills, and the guild halls. I miss the collectors. I miss having districts instead of different servers. I miss the heroes too but I understand why we don’t have them here. I miss the funny conversations the heroes would have. Somehow the npc’s in gw1 seemed to have more individual personality to me than most of them in gw2.

I like GW2 gameplay. I like that you can cast spells while moving. I like the way you can have all your pets with you. I like the map completion method here. I like having more than one race to play. I like jumping. I like that I can heal or rez other people not in my group. I like that you can play together in the open world rather than it all being instanced.

Special Promotions in GW1 later became available in their online store so perhaps that will happen.

Yes, it discourages travel. This in turn discourages interaction between players.

So, which is more important to the game? Having a money sink such as waypoint costs or encouraging travel and interaction between other players? Personally, I wish they would add a different money sink in place of this one.

As long as people have lower level alts, that plan won’t work. I for example would just complete the daily with an alt rather than complete it in Orr.

They just need to make Orr less annoying.

The only work around right now is just turn your sound off and put some music on. That’s what I have to do when I play my necromancer to avoid being driven insane. I don’t mind the town ones so much as I don’t stay in any one area that long. But you can’t escape the noises your character makes.

That’s a good idea. I especially like the idea of regional armor and weapon skins. Have you ever seen a sylvari female in the starter light armor? Its pretty silly looking. Luckily I could go to the Hall of Monuments right away and change it but I would have preferred a more “sylvari look”.

I wouldn’t mind them showing up after you have completed them. Before you complete them, no. Part of the puzzle is discovering where it is.

I think it is a way to try and force you to stop and fight. Perhaps it is in place to interfere with botters?

Most of the time it is not too bad as I can “run it off” but in Orr its pretty hard to deal with. You are slowed down too much to escape the wall to wall fast regen zombies.

I like GW2. The last game I played was Everquest 2, the forums were just as negative there if not more so.

As long as all that is restricted to WvW and kept out of PvE. If you start drastically affecting PvE by changes that were done specifically for PvP/WvW you will end up with everyone who is PvE being annoyed. That goes for the other direction too. Changes made for PvE will annoy WvW people if it affects WvW play.

I think they should separate WvW and PvE into different servers. Let people have their PvE server and their WvW server. Then have the paid on the Gem store transfer thing just for the WvW servers and different rules for skills, downed state, etc etc etc. Separate them completely.

I get what you are saying, OP. I preferred the districts of GW also. So easy to group up with friends there.

It’s difficult to get everyone together here as our friends are distributed like a spiderweb across the servers and have multiple connections with other friends. It isn’t so simple as pick a server and move because someone always has to chose between which friends to stay with and which friends to leave behind. Good luck, and I hope you all manage to end up together somewhere.

I think if they eliminated repair costs in pvp this would go away. Rather than spend a lot of time coming up with a dishonor system. Why don’t they just try having no repair costs in pvp for a period of time and see if that takes care of the problem. If it does then there’s the answer.

I’d like that too. I find I forget a lot of the story while waiting to level for the next step. It would be nice at level 80 to run back through them all to get the story at once.

I miss my ritualist. Maybe when they open up the other parts of the world they will add more classes. I miss all my spirits.

I’d like the option of a clock that shows both the game time and the local time.

I couldn’t decide which light armor class I preferred so I’m leveling all three. I keep them in the same tier as I’m leveling. It saves me regretting which choice I made because they do play differently.

You could level both.

It should be available only from the guild window itself. It should not be in the list you get from the party window.

Let’s get this outta the way right off the top: tedious is not synonymous with challenging. That’s a conflation a lot of gamer folk seem to routinely make.

I experienced a high level of tedium while trying to navigate Orr. Which is to say not play in Orr, but move around in Orr and get to the parts I actually wanted to play in.

I didn’t find the challenge of the zones to be all that extreme. But getting anywhere was a footslog. It was not remotely enjoyable in most cases, which is key.

Teaming with others mitigated but did not negate this issue. One is able to move through the terrain quicker with a party, but the tedious process of doing so is still there. Also, the mob density tends to put a harsher light on existing mechanical/system bugs/shortcomings. Such as, for example, the clunkiness of targeting, and the number of problems and bugs associated with underwater combat.

I found the design of Malchor’s Leap to be particularly poor. Many elements of its layout seem to have no purpose other than to waste a player’s time. That’s bad. Also, there are holes in its geometry, nonsensical placement of invisible barriers, and many spots where the terrain just seems slapdash. In short, it’s not hard to get stuck in the zone… which is also bad.

Cursed Shore, on the other hand, is, I think, the least offensive. One can get around a lot of places by being cautious and sneaky. I happen to like that, and I believe it’s the way all three zones should’ve been developed from the start.

Make situational and environmental awareness matter; create “invisible” paths of cover and concealment throughout the landscape, that no one will find unless they’re paying attention. ’Cuz that would actually be a challenge. Not unlike a giant puzzle.

Cursed Shore seems to have the lion’s share of this, with the Straits making up the difference (the Leap just appears to have a spawnpoint shoved in every nook and cranny), but I don’t have the sense that this dynamic was ever a concerted design effort.

I’d like to see the zones tweaked in this direction, and future “hazard area” zones of this type created with “giant navigational puzzle” in mind. The world is supposed to be immersive. Making terrain matter in this way would contribute to that, as well as appeal to the tactically-minded. It’d also make exploration matter. Players attracted to that sort of thing (raises hand) could end up as guides.

I understand the concept underpinning Orr, that it’s a “warzone”, that it’s supposed to be hazardous. But I believe it’s possible to evoke such an atmosphere in a zone without it having to be a chore to explore it.

I’ve now completed the Orr zones, and I don’t have any particular inclination to go back to them. I’m not alone in this. I do think that’s a problem that should be avoided in the long-term, if not addressed in the short-term.

You said it perfectly. The thing is, even if Orr were full of players. So full you couldn’t walk one step without tripping over one or two of them, I still wouldn’t enjoy being there.

I played gw1 from the beginning. I would say that the most difficult zones in gw1 were challenging. I very much enjoyed them. Did I find them difficult to do at first? Yes. Did I enjoy working on strategy and timing and skill to master them? Yes. Did we (my friends and I) do them many times? Yes. Why? They were fun.

Do I find Orr difficult? No. Do I find Orr challenging? No. Do I find Orr fun? No. Well then, what do I find Orr to be? A very tedious place where I need to complete some tasks. Once I finish these tasks, will I go back there? Kitten no.

So, I guess there are two discussions going on here. One is, “Is Orr difficult or impossible to do?” The other discussion is “Is Orr annoying and tedious or fun and challenging?”

Interesting, I did the same. I read the Ghosts of Ascalon very quickly and made it about halfway through Edge of Destiny and put it down. I haven’t gotten around to finishing it.

I found completing maps and doing the daily leveled me pretty quickly. I only did the DE’s for the daily or if they happened to be where I was doing the stuff for map completion.

First of all, if you are so rich because of the money being so easy to make, then the cost of the waypoint is insignificant to you. It isn’t a good money sink because in fact, you are rich. It would have to cost several gold to travel for it to be an effective money sink.

If, on the other hand, you are someone who finds the cost of using waypoints inhibiting playing with folks in lower areas because you aren’t rich and the cost therefore is not justifiable, then it still isn’t a good money sink because, heck, you just avoid using a waypoint.

I remember when they nerfed the crystal desert griffin farm (gw1). Many of my friends were sad about that one for…..well still are.

Thing is, some people just enjoy farming to make their gold. One of my friends who likes to make gold that way has already quit playing from boredom. He plays solo due to his schedule and never found a good solo farm so he is gone.

We do need some reliable farms for gold, etc. Me, I don’t like to farm, but I do like for my friends to play.

I know I’m going to attract a lot of incredulous looks and comments of (likely dismissive) disbelief, but…

I would be far, far less inclined to play WvW if player names were visible. I prefer to play cooperatively or as friendly competition, and when I encounter the occasional person who has no interest in keeping it friendly, I don’t enjoy my experience. I study and work, negative interactions are draining. When I come home for the day and decide to play, the last thing I want is some player complaining if I succeed against him or gloating if I fail.

That said, I think that some of the ideas raised here are legitimate concerns (i.e. dismissing personal liability and self-governance, making the PvP impersonal). I guess my argument is that WvW shifts the focus to “person versus person” to “server/team versus server/team”.

This sums up my feelings too. I’d only want this feature if I could choose to be incognito.

The thing is, accounts are going to get hacked. It is in the best interest of the game to keep as many people playing and buying stuff as possible. If you get hacked and lose everything or even if you just have the fear that you could possibly get hacked and lose everything, you are less motivated to invest time or money in any game.

Once you lose players, its hard to get them back. Right now you might not need them, but someday you will. I think Anet already is working on such a feature as it has been mentioned many times in the account support area.
