I don’t need RoF to be top in the tier, i need it to be middle, but that’s impossible. The difference now is too much.

Also I’m a wvw player with a decent amount of badges at the moment. I usually spend some time in wvw, regardless of map completion. But I only need this one garrison, and we weren’t able to take it for weeks. Why my map completion should dependo on something like that?

ALSO at the beginning the map rotation was random, now it depends on the tier. Before it was possible to own the blue map for us, we just needed to wait. Now it’s simply impossible (not my opinion, it’s math).

We tried today, but it’s not easy. And that’s not the point here.

Some servers have it easier, since the first positions tend to vary more often and people get to own every map in a sort of rotation.

On Ring of Fire we have never been blue for 17 weeks, so our situation is different.

only thing I can suggest to you is to speak with [ICON] who are a big WvW guild or another powerful guild such as “Exodus of the Elder Dragons” [GODS].

Ask the guild to help you to take the area’s you need. I’m sure [ICON] will have some sort of alliance that will help to zerg a borderland with you. I’m pretty sure you’re not the only one who needs these POI’s / Vista’s so I think people will be willing to help.

I’m from Ring of Fire server, and as you can see from the history (here: http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/histories ) we have NEVER been owners of the blue color borderland (the east one) since the first week after the reset, 17 weeks ago. Again, 17 weeks.
We always go from green to red, and if you study it a little bit more carefully, it’s just IMPOSSIBLE for my server to own the blue borderland. It would require us to be 20th or 23rd, but at this point the difference in the chart between the servers is too hight. We will simply keep going from last of the 7th tier to first of the 8th tier, making almost impossible for some of us to get some pois and vistas in the East (blue) borderland.

Simply conquer it? Impossible.
It would require a manpower that our server doesn’t have, not in a foreign borderland at least.

The only way to get 100% map completion for me would be to PAY to change server 2 times (so around 20 dollars).

This seems a scam. ANet makes that is impossible for my server to get that map, so I have to pay ANet to get my last 4 Points of Interest.

Necros have Final Rest as well as a lot of undead-related weapons.

Well, it wouln’t be a prestigious title then. However that’s why I suggested more options.
I simply don’t know if ANet is has in mind to release a variety of titles (easy and hard) or if they want titles to stay ‘not so easy to get’.

The main thing is that professions related titles would be easy to implement and very cool for roleplaying, that is what a mmorpg is mainly about (imo).

I kinow there is already the ‘Master Crafter’ title for lv400 in each profession, but it would be nice to have profession related titles for roleplay purpose, like “Master Chef” or “The Blacksmith” and so on. Could be achieved by reaching 400 in the profession or by crafting a certain number of items (or both).

I almost feel like it’s inappropriate to complain about pathing in MMOs at this point. Seriously, who here has ever played a pet class in any MMO ever that didn’t have glaring pathing issues that never get fixed no matter how long the game has been running? It’s to where I just assume that this particular mechanic is literally impossible to program effectively. I don’t know why; I’m not a programmer; that’s just how it is.

You’re not wrong. Let’s make clear that, at the moment, the AI of mobs and allies is not even average in this game, but it’s to say that it’s impossibile for a minion (or an AI in general) to follow what you have in your mind (I mean, dungeon skips, change of strategies, etc) unless they give you direct control over that. But that’s ranger mechanic, they can’t give it to other classes too, you’ll never have direct control over your minions unless they remove death shroud and give ranger something else. The purpose of a necro minion is TO BE EXPENDABLE. Some traits are activated only when a minion dies, meaning they HAVE TO DIE, in order to spread condition, or to give you life force. And you can summon them back however.

You don’t have control over that like a ranger, but you can summon 7 at once, and summon them again after they die. And if not killed they last until you logout, they’re not timed like EVERY other summoned ally.

Ummm…

Necro ranks just after Guardian, Engineer, Elementalist, Warrior, and Mesmer (which it’s possible to get a 97% damage reduction with) in terms of tanking ability. Nowhere near ‘strongest’ in the game.

Pretty sure necros are still better then mesmers and eles at tanking. Not saying they’re not good, lol. But a necro has aoe statuses (opponent offense reduction), impressive health, minions (to cripple, damage, slow down and be a decoy for foes AND increase your toughness with traits) and DEATH SHROUD.
Attack, gain life force, receive an attack, gain life force, heal, gain life force, death shroud (invincible), it ends, skills are recharged and you’re still at 100%.
You need traits and good utils for that, but it’s possible.

You keep telling yourself that necro pets aren’t a class mechanic while the rest of the necro mm players who summon 5000 pets out to do their bidness think otherwise.

And some guardians go around with 3 spiritual weapons, yet those are just utility skills and not class mechanic (wich, i hope you know, is virtues).

no, adrenaline IS class mechanic, as well as virtues. I don’t know if you’re blind or something. Just look above your weaponskills, that’s the profession mechanic menu. the one you activate with F1(, F2, F3).

As I’m sure you can see, you don’t summon a minion with F1 on necro, but you activate death shroud. That’s your class mechanic.
Never heard of a guardian complaining about how much spirit weapons get stuck, expecially bow, or about their time limit (30 seconds). Those are just utility skills you can use or not. But if you don’t focus a little bit on boons on your guardian, then you’ll always be a weaker warrior with some passive fire damage.

I’m going to reply about the patch notes in the last part of this post.

You’re not a ranger. If you want the pet as profession mechanic you choose the wrong job.

NONE of those are mentioned (and more) either newbsauce, only certain parts of each class get mentioned, it wasn’t a thorough goings over of each class and their dynamics…good luck next time.

Don’t alter the meaning of that post just for your purpose. They hinted at every profession mechanic pretty clearly. You’re just upset they didn’t mention necro minions at all.

That’s class philosophy, not class description, it’s what they WANT that class to be, so deal with it. Again? what they WANT. And that’s official, thay don’t care about minions (and for me they shouldn’t. They’ll never be reliable in pvp or wvw or dungeons).

And I’m pretty sure they mentioned boons for guardian (virtues are boons, lol), direct damage for warrior (uhm.. .that’s what adrenaline does, direct damage and damage boost via traits), PETS FOR RANGER (omg, lol, did you miss that?), kits for engineer, illusions for mesmer and attunements for ele, but they didn’t mention “indirect damage with summoned allies” or “hordes of summoned allies” or “minions” for necro. Instead they mentioned death shroud, health and conditions.
I’ll quote them at the end of this post.

Minions may be useful, but just as other classes summoned allies (and maybe necro’s minions are even better), yet if you focus on them you’ll always be weak. Thay’re child play. They work only on low level PvE.

Find yourself a decent build and stop complaining. You’re weak and you blame ANet for that, while there are TONS of necros I play with and they are almost immortal.
^ This means the class is fine. You’re going against the class philosophy, trying to play it as a ranger.

ps: there are sone pretty good minion master builds however. they just don’t work in pvp and wvw because, lol, it seems that players are smart enough to aim at the summoner and not at the minions, but I don’t think ANet can avoid that.
If you don’t like you’re free to go. I’m sure a lot of ppl will be happy, including me. Nobody likes crybabies.
Also because they’re probably going to NERF the necromancer:

AOE balance. We feel that in PvP some AOE builds are too strong for the opportunity cost, and we’ll be bringing those in line in the next few patches.

Just got hit by a thief for 6,000+ damage twice

You got some kittenty traits then. also lol @ “full ex”. you can have a full ex and still 0 toughness, meaning you take full damage from hits.
However with 6000×2 dmg you still have death shroud and half hp. An elementalist would have been already dead (same armor class but only 10-12k hp).

I’ve seen necro tanks, and it’s not so rare. Learn to dodge and find yourself a decent build.

still what they say about summoned allies is correct. it should make you realise that necro minions are just like guardian SW, but a little bit better.

I’ll stick with the original class description

you can do whatever you want, yet what I posted is the official class philosophy. you can deny it, but it’s still there and it doesn’t involve minions.

When I’m defending a keep, it is not rangers or eles that enemies try to focus, it’s me, who spreads conditions like crazy with epidemic, corrupt boon… etc.

Psst. You aren’t being focused because everyone is a-tremble at your l33t bleed spreading, you’re being focused because you’re an easy victim, with no blocks, invulnerability or stealth options.

What was that word for people who are so terribad that they think they must be awesome?

Easy victim? The class with the highest HP in the game, maybe with an impressive toughness thenks to it’s traits and also an almost infinite death shroud pool (with my build)? A ranged aoe class that can hit from INSIDE the walls? You clearly never played (correctly) necro in wvw.

also lol @ invulnerability and stealth options. as if they’re required to rule in wvw.

You probably need to fix yourself. You just can’t play necro and you ask for a fix on something that works fine (ok, minion AI is bad, but they’re still better then any other summoned ally, and they’re not your main mechanic)

Just by using a staff and the trait for larger symbols, a necro is probably the bast aoe ranged class in WvW, expecially when defending a castle. You can get something like 20-30 loot bags in just 1 event.
Your problem is probably that you try to play necro as you did with your ranger, but they’re not the same class. You need to focus on large areas, death shroud and conditions.

Minions are completely useless in wvw. Just don’t use them.

Minions are not a class mechanic as ranger’s pet. They’re a generic summoned ally, like banners, elementals, illusions and ranger’s spirits. And they’re still better then all of them, with their superior number, skills and no time limit.

I agree that the class is solid for the most part. Most other classes aren’t as OP as many people claim. But minion AI is a MAJOR issue, and posts to that nature deserve to be filling half the front page. It’s ridiculously bad, and ANET needs to know that it matters enough to us that it’s worth working on, and working on NOW.

Who told you I never played necro. I have a necro character and I made and tested my gf’s build. I used her character a couple of times and she gave me feedback. Also I’ve played with her and necro is not weak at all.

Necro Minions suck? true, as ANY OTHER ALLY (except ranger’s, but only because you can control it), but, that’s the issue, no time limit as most of the other classes and you can have SEVEN of them.
I’ve never heard of a Guardian (as myself) complaining about spiritual weapon AI or time limit. Why? Because that’s not the class main mechanic, it’s just an utility (and, you know what? SW AI seems even worse, some of them are completely useless because they fail too many times, but nobody complains about it).

Necro minions are the same. You should focus on conditions and death shroud, or be a full minion master with awesome Armor stat and 7 minions at once (6 from skills and 1 from trait), again SEVEN MINIONS (name another class that can reach the same number).
You can’t control them as a ranger does? well, ranger has 1, you have 7.

If there is something wrong in this game it’s maybe, MAYBE, the general ally AI, but for every class, not only necro.

Lie. This is entirely untrue. Blatant lies like this completely undermine your point, which is somewhat reasonable.

Sorry, i forgot that lich form unsummons your minions. well, you can still have 6-7 at once. 1 on heal, 4 on utils (one of them summons 2 pets), 1 on elite and 1 from trait. not 10+, but the point is the same.

I don’t know if it’s better to have 7 stupid minions or 1 pet, but still, necro has it’s own mechanic and ranger doesn’t have death shroud.

Also the main point of a minion is not to deal damage, but to take hits and boost the owner’s stats, or simply die in a cloud of poison. If you want a controllable and reliable pet, play the ranger.

Necro main mechanic is death shroud. and it’s pretty good imo.

I’ve been using it since September 2012 and it’s the best I’ve tried so far.
It’s focused around Guardian’s class mechanic, boons, trying to get the most from them, also balancing with some burning damage and heavy damage from Greatsword. Scepter/Focus are mainly for wvw.
Everything is supported by Altruistic Healing, that makes a great combo with Empowering Might, along with Save Yourself and it’s fix (Contemplation of Purity), and, of course, Virtues.

The lack of HP is also fixed by increasing the passing healing with the Rune of the Doylak and the Sigil of Water.

I balanced offensive and defensive stats on my equipment.

After getting so much from this build, I decided to share it. I hope you may like it as much as I did.

necro in gw2 drains life force from corpses and can raise them. it’s perfectly fine with every definition of necromancer you suggested in this thread.

also I don’t want a ranger 2.0. i like that they focused on life force for necro instead of a pet. also having more minions to sacrifice suits necro more then only one pet to directly control (like ranger).

don’t forget that necro pets don’t have a time limit, unlike guardian spiritual weapons, so they’re inferior to ranger’s pet, but still better then the other minions.

My gf has a necro and it works just fine. Has almost infinite health a 99% survival rate, can tank, support and does a lot of damage. We played in every dungeon and spent a lot of time in wvw.

Also, pets/minions are not a class mechanic for Necromancers, it’s just one of the possible utility sets they can use. As a Guardian focuses on buffs, a necro should focus on health (increasing your armor) and death shroud (I suggest a minion and some minion traits however).

You’re probably playing wrong or using a bad build. To me necro is just fine.

I think that necro design is just fine. Give it pets and it will totally outshadow the ranger. Also necro can have 10 minions at once, or even more.

I also think it’s cool the way they designed it. You’re not forced to be a minion master but you can be one, or you can focus on death shroud, or on status damage, or make a balanced build that involves all of them.
I also think that necro is one of the best supporting classes in this game.

I’ve been using the same build (as your 2.5) since September 2012. Same weapons, same traits. Just different skills. I have healing symbol + save yourself + condition to boon meditation + wolf/hounds/tome. They stack pretty well.

Sometimes it doesn’t give you the skill point after you defeat it and sometimes it doesn’t spawn right after the defeat, but it pops after some minutes and you can try it again.

Well, the attached picture is probably enough. I simply have the same rune on my pve and pvp equip, and it says I have 14/6.

However the count is lame even on just 1 set of gear. If I have the rune on all my gear (Aqua Breather included, so 7 runes) it says I have 7/6. While this is obviously true, the rune on the Aqua Breather is required to get the 6th effect also underwater, so the count should exclude the rune on my helm. Well, this would be just an improvement.

Ok, I’ve tested it myself in the pvp area, and you really need it also on your aqua breather to get the 6th effect (>.<).

The rune count is also really lame. It says I have 12/6 of a rune because I have it on both my pvp and pve gears.

Hammer is already the best pvp option for guardians.

For pve and wvw I still prefer the greatsword as melee option.

In dungeons the guardian can only be a supporter. Any warrior with a guardian buffing him/her is better then any guardian at tanking.

Double hp and personal buffs. Guadian buffs are aoe.

So it’s just an interface error. :\
Meaning that if I want a full set of superior runes (underwater too) I need to buy 7 of them instead of 6, right?

Is it confirmed that using the 7th rune you keep the 6th bonus? Or should I just add a jewel on it?

Don’t know if it has been asked yet.

Aqua Breathers seem to replace the helm while underwater, but how does stats and rune work on those?

I get the stats that I have on the Aqua Breather only underwater or all the time? I get the helm stats/rune underwater or not?

Also, I added a rune on it, already having 4/4 on my armor set (1 on the helm), and the Aqua Breather sais i have 5/4. Do I get the effect underwater or it’s really consideredkitten 4?

Should I just add a gemstone in it?

wow, a free 30 hp/s is not bad at all. While there are better effects, I admit it’s nice.
A warrior with this rune has the same damage mitigation of a guardian without it, without the need to stack healing power.

While they said they already have a fix and they’re waiting for the next patch to implement it, let me say that I agree with you on the fact that 2+ weeks for something so easy to fix is way too much.

Nothing wrong in what I’m doing. Simply put, I buff the others, while not receiving almost any buff. The guardian is strong as a warrior (example) when it’s buffed, so a warrior with guardian buffs is stronger then a guardian.
It’s not hard to understand.
It doesn’t involve how I’m able to play guardian or not. Unless you give up on buffing your allies (and so yourself), you are pidgeonholed in the supporter role.

But I’m not going to waste any more time here, if you’re happy with your aoe aegis and the hp of a thief, but with no ranged weapons.

Ugh, I need to completely disagree.

While it’s true that Guardians have lowest HP compare to other Professions, it’s also true that Guardian suvavibility is pretty high. I run a full support build for PVE, and I am (almost) always the last man standing in case of bad pulls/overwhelming forces in dungeons. I have the full exotic (crafted by me) Draconic Cleric’s Heavy Armor (why would a guardian run around with precision or critical damage lol?) and my Toughness is darn high, providing an excellent damage mitigation.

Mace/Shield + Hammer is the weapon combination I prefere using (in dungeons, not solo), and it does a great job to rise suravibility with this Profession.

Mace/Shield grants suvavibility because it’s an incredibly defensive combination with orrible dps.
Other classes reach your same suvavibility and the same damage mitigation, being able to use more offensive (and often ranged) weapons.
Do you understand what it implies, right? Being more offensive also means you are hit less times by your opponent, and the same goes for any ranged weapon.
A necro has 3 ranged weapons, minions, 2x our hp, death shroud, regen, hp drains and can receive guardian buffs.
A warrior can wield longbow or rifle, having a lot of damage mitigation, impressive attack and 2x the hp of a guardian.

It is not hard to understand. If the game is balanced, then:
guardian + guardian_buffs = non_guardian

meaning that:
guardian + guardian_buffs < non_guardian + guardian_buffs

Most of the other classes are way more individualistic so guardians doesn’t receive almost any buff, and since aegis and burning doesn’t stack, another guardian is not so useful for us.

With the right traits, Guardians DO benefit by sharing their boons with other people of your group.

We get no benefits from buffing others except Altruistic Healing, that is still too weak to balance the lack of hp and the inferiority (without buffs) to warrior, ranger, necro, mesmer, etc.

Don’t forget, it’s the only class that heals decently (I’m not saying other classes don’t heal well, in fact I love, for example, Engineer’s healing turret) but from my experiences, Tome of Courage and Virtue of Resolve are major life-savers.

Meaning, as I said, that at the moment the guardian needs a fix, or it will just be a cleric.

The only fix a Guardian needs atm is to be provided with a good ranged weapons: scepter is a good CC, but lacks good outburst damage and long-range attack variety.. and staff is mid-range…

Scepter only needs a fast and direct auto attack.
The slow orb is easy to evade and somehow it doesn’t hit opponents too high above me. During castle siege it doesn’t reach the top of the wall, it only hits the wall popping a lot of “obstructed”, while it doesn’t happen when I use a bow with my ranger.

However most of us agree on some major issues, like the lack or ranged options (being the only class in the game with no ranged weapons is kinda frustrating) and no rewards either in stats or loot (in wvw) for buffing others.

What I say about istances is not hard to understand:
Guardian + buff = non_guardian
guardian + buff < non_guardian + guardian_buffs

Making guardian an incredibly useful buffer, but no more than that.
