In case you didn’t heard Anet is going to implement 2 week test periods for wvw with new rules to see how they really effect wvw. The first week is no white swords and points per kill system. No idea what rest of the periods would be like. I think that it is a good and safe way to try to improve wvw.

We will also have a GvG CDI after the Guild Raids CDI (Which should be this week or next).

I think that they implemented the AOE cap because of bandwidth issues. It would be nice if they removed it though. But like uncapped conditions, unfeasible. The lag would be astronomical and may make us miss the time of the invisible zergs (culling).

traits are usually much more important than the utilities you bring though.

Even playstyle is defined by the traits you slot rather than utilities you pick (PU mesmer, Phalanx warrior etc.)

I actually haven’t noticed people saying the game is dead or will be dead in a year.

Mostly that are those players that want to turn the game into a totally different
direction .. like :
- we need harcore content / raids else the game will be dead
-we need open PvP / Duelz in open world, else game will be dead
-giff mounts, else game is dead ..

Or the more popular we need expansions or the game is dead. Even the standard of these expansions is pretty high requiring new races, classes, a whole continent, traits, skills for all classes, new weapon types, armors, wvw overhaul, pvp game modes and more. Oh and they want all this at regular intervals, a year or less.
Some people live in a fantasy world.

I think the developer says the same thing about dungeons and spvp. Some thing along the line of we dont’ want new dungeons/spvp mode because it fractual the player base.

That’s simply not true. Anet has stated that they aren’t working on dungeons since they are hard to make and not many people seem to do them (they cited aetherblade path for this).
They also do want to create new spvp game mode types, we know this because they have shown works in progress and there are data mined maps.

The Dangers of Expansion

KngGilgamesh.3481

I’m going to copy and paste my post in the previous expansion threads again. They don’t seem to get addressed.

“During the living story releases it was evident that many people were logging on the first day or the first few days of the story’s release and then would not log in until the next step. Two weeks breaks are fine but this phenomena would also be seen with expansions especially if they are as “needed” as people claim them to be.

This leads to the question of what is better in terms of game health and revenue. Is it a life line of expansions that part of the population will buy to complete in under a week or month? This would result in spike activity at certain times and stagnation in the rest especially if people want as much new stuff in the expansions as they have stated (new classes, races, etc.).
Or is it better to have a slower medium of content delivery that gives incentive to at least log in bimonthly and play for a day or two for free and be informed of all of the new gem store items that are regularly introduced? This is part is apparently sustainable by 20 people, but I think should have more support to release more content (which is primarily what everyone wants).

An expansion would also probably shift the revenue stream from GW2 completely and end up being the primary source of revenue if enough people keep buying it and playing in longer bursts. This will also weaken the revenue from gems since the people bursting would be less exposed to releases. Another problem is WvWvW and sPvP both of these strive to achieve a competitive scene and the fragmented nature of expansions can hurt this a lot especially the WvW. Expansions would also remove incentives to improve these areas since expansions are mainly pve (pvp would be too unfair) and may become the primary source of revenue. The retention from wvw would then be insignificant. The longer burst nature would also be very harmful to wvw.

Living story can alleviate most of the concerns if only it produces more diverse content and well produces more. The problem is that content would always be slower than the player mastery of the content. One concern with living story however is that it does not seem to be as marketable as an expansion. This can be mended if Anet were to release teasers for the whole season but that can be bit spoilerly."

And the NGE .. heck that is maybe 15-30 minutes of gameplay were you are really
affected by it on a new character (as long as we not talk about traits).

O, don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against the NPE. The concept of the idea is good, but it wasn’t delivered good imo.
And as you say for yourself, as long as we are not talking about traits. The fact they kittened that up, and haven’t even fixed it/communicated about it says much, just too much….

And ofcourse, it is no problem for a business to create/alter content in favor to get new players. But here it comes:
1: Don’t create/alter content that affects your already excisting customers too much. So many simple solutions to not go down that path, but Anet chooses to go down that path.
2: Divide your resources between creating/altering content for new players, and creating/altering content for excisting customers. Not gonna explain this point, I think you know what I mean.

Anet has communicated about Traits quite a bit, even made changes to acquisition of many traits… I don’t know what it is there to say other than that they think about the traits too but don’t want to revert it but change it. It has been slow and the traits are still a problem though.

How has the NPE effected veterans a lot? Aside from the first 15 levels, which can now be done in one hour; it hasn’t had much effect, especially to level 80 players. The trait system has effected veterans somewhat but even then only for new characters and it’s not like veterans can’t afford to just buy the traits.

What new content has been created for new players? The only content really altered has been living story segments but I don’t see how that has created a problem of lesser resources.

I fail to see how it’s a major problem and how so many people can state that the game’s focus has changed because of one part of a feature pack. It’s as true as people claiming that the game would become a gear treadmill because of the implementation of ascended gear.

Halloween for veteran players

KngGilgamesh.3481

Dragon Bash is another good point. It’s kittened that it was cancelled. Dragon Ball was one of the best mini-games in the game.

Halloween & Wintersday are just seasonal events…nothing to do with LS at all.

When you incorporate a story that progressed from 2012 to 2013, then in 2014 it just repeated itself it makes no sense! Anet said SAB was gone because it didn’t fit the LS and yet here we have the Bloody Prince introduced to us for the “first time” again, like I said, it makes no logical sense.

It makes no sense unless, I don’t know, there are a million new players in China who never saw the beginning of the story?

For all we know this game now has more new players than veterans. In fact, I think it’s likely. Which means it makes sense to help people catch up on stories.

I don’t care about China. And as for new players sure, let’s just redo the entire Scarlet story arc for their benefit if that’s what you want. Your argument makes no logical sense.

Anet actually does want to do redo season 1 with journal system. Oh and your not caring means nothing and I don’t know want didn’t make sense to you… Players not wanting to be thrust into a story they don’t know about?

Best MMO game ever

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KngGilgamesh.3481

KngGilgamesh.3481

Hi all. First topic on these forums. I just wanted to come here and say that GW2 is the best MMO game ever. I don’t care what anyone says. I know there are some people that come on here who bash the game because they are not happy with this or that or want to mention they are “leaving” the game because of this or that but whatever. Maybe they don’t appreciate a good game when they see one and find excuses instead of finding different ways to have fun with it. I want to change the scenery a bit here and say thanks Anet for the best MMO game and experience ever! Keep it up and looking forward to see what’s next in the world of Tyria!

I even still play GW1 from time to time and that is also one of the best game’s ever too!

:)

Good for you that you like the game, but you don’t seem to understand how important constructive feedback is, and this is where you see most of it: on the forums.
People “complain” and “bash”, not because they hate the game, but because they love it, otherwise they wouldn’t be here anymore.

The only posts that are useless are the “I’M GONNA LEAVE THIS GAME THIS IS HORRIBLE, GOODBYE ARENA NET”, because those don’t tell us anything and a lot of times are made by trolls who are still playing the game.

Also devs love talking to us (the CDI’s are solid proof of that) and they do implement new content and change the game based on players’ suggestions.

The problem is that so few people know how to give fair constructive criticism or even judge the merits and failures of stuff. People often get dramatic , use hyperbole, call names, etc. The trolls and the dramatic crowd also often bury them.
Many also don’t check the effects themselves. Often the complaining starts before the change, it’s even justified sometimes (like with commander tags), but other times it is baseless (profession based loot for example). The band wagon effect is very strong too. Everyone hated the NPE before they even knew what the changes were and there was so much bad information going around about the level locks that everyone believed, some of it was because of bugs but most was from other players.
Also looking back at Ascended release it was the same, everyone was proclaiming doom (that there will be a gear treadmill now and power creep) and saying that they quit the game. This was before even a single item was released. Now I think that Ascended gear was probably a very good change to game. It gave many people something to do and fractals are an interesting game type.

Interesting enough, there’s lots of GW2 reddit subscribers, yet their traffic is impressively low compared to the traffic to number of subscribers ratio:

Unique traffic this month (October)

That thing fluctuates a lot though. Try going back few months to the time of living story if you can.

Moa need’s some rework. Maybe reduce the duration to 6seconds. Or let the enemy use utilities. Shatter mesmer right now is already god mode without even using moa, moa just makes it even more faceroll.

Warrior is terrible now since 9/9, so pick either elementalist, guardian or thief.

Salty much? Warrior is still a good class and is a welcome addition to any group.

Warrior’s DPS is disgusting. It’s so bad that I feel embarrassed to play the class now along with the fact that some of its skills are very bugged. In groups it might be less noticeable to the others since the realtime difference it makes is negligible (few seconds at most on bosses) but in a solo situation it’s sometimes close to a minute slower than before the update.

That’s really bad. Warrior DPS was already on the lower end of the spectrum before the update.

Warriors bring no useful group-wide utility to parties and there’s literally nothing about them to make them worth having other than
a) banners
b) phalanx strength in situations that call for it

Other than that… nothing.

And that’s really sad. It’s been my main and favorite since I started this game last summer, so it’s insulting to see what I love to play with destroyed.

The players who have quit can only really provide good feedback about why they quit when they quit. After that their credibility diminishes since all their opinions would be from hearsay or prejudiced by the state of the game when they played. They also would only see changes on paper and wouldn’t be able to predict nor judge their impact in the current game world.
They however can’t be censured since some people may wish to come back and inquire about the current state of the game from those actually playing the game rather than making judgment from their limited knowledge. At least that’s the rational thing for them to do.

300 empty labyrinth maps

Same here. Wasn’t map-swapping, but I was in the labyrinth for 2 hours and only saw a handful of people running small door events while avoiding the legendary bosses (especially that darned Labyrinthine Horror which will run around and butcher individual players). And I never once got an invitation to leave the instance either, so the game apparently thinks that handful of people is populated enough.

That kittening Horror. I was with a group of 5 last night when he plowed through us in an attempt to ruin our night. We got him near the door and just kept throwing our limp corpses at him until his joined ours on top of the heap, just like in the old days of dungeoneering.

It sounds like ANet is considering 5 players a full map for the labyrinth ;(

Our group was fighting that Candy Corn Boss and right at the end the Labyrinthine Horror suddenly got in the middle of the fight. Which didn’t help matters any I can tell you that. :/

Has happened a few times to me too. The horror is crazy like that…

the sPvP, I’m almost certain has less than 5 ppl working on it. By far one of the biggest a lot of ppl play MMORPGs – for good PvP. And it continues to just be thrown aside by anet. It’s sad to see that GW1 had more diversity in its PvP content at release than freaking GW2 has put out in 2+ years… disappointing is an understatement.

We have data mined maps and the teams themselves talking about working on multiple maps that are not conquest based. I think we’ll have a big pvp release before the next tournament. There will also be GvG CDI.

I would literally pay for gems for an option to remove all special FX and outfits from my screen. Please add that as a feature. That new Lich thing has worsen the GW environment by a lot (for the people who is trying to keep the aesthetic at least)

I know GW1 also had them… was the reason I stopped playing that game and never bought EotN. After that I just played solo with my heroes but here I’m forced to see them everyday.

You could…for example…put your Character Model Limit on low. :I

I want to keep the aesthetic not remove it completely. Having all those flashy things feels already like playing a low graphics game. Its pure glowing, no textures at all… while outfits, are just not original… I did a dungeon with 3 (not 2… 3!) Lich outfit guys. It felt like playing whatever but gw2.

Has the living story hurt gw2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KngGilgamesh.3481

KngGilgamesh.3481

I think that the first season was mostly a mistake but they were still learning at that point. I’m much more satisfied with season 2, especially since it’s only 20 people.

Most of the stuff that you want instead of living story seems to be stuff that people who make the living story don’t really make like skills, legendary, pvp game modes. Blaming living story for these things is like complaining that BL releases impact balance changes.

The Illusion of living story hurting GW2 is probably maintained by the lack of diversity in released content. We have had few very unique maps. The new content is permanent
and has included numerous new events both in the old world and t
he new maps.
There haven’t been any new dungeons since Anet has stated that they require too much work and not many people do them (they cited Aetherblade path for this). Even without the LS we probably wouldn’t have seen any of them, maybe fractals but dungeons require context and story.
Weapon skills probably aren’t effected by LS but by balancing teams and they probably don’t find the need to add any. Same for new professions.
A new race would be awesome to have and LS can set up the perfect context for it. It’s basically a season of Living story in personal race story and a city map, not to mention animation, models etc. It’s a lot of work and I doubt that this would happen frequently with or without LS.
I don’t see how some new legendaries would have a great effect on the staleness of the game nor how LS is effecting them.
As for new pvp game modes, again probably not the jurisdiction of people who work on LS. We have also reason to believe that new modes may be incoming. We have data mined maps for sPvP that don’t seem to be for conquest type game play. We will also have CDI for GvG and Raid content.

I don’t see why we can’t have LS with all these changes too. The problem is that we really haven’t had these changes with the LS but I doubt that the reason for thier absence is LS. More probably it’s probably a low priority issue for the teams whose jurisdiction the content falls under, or that they are working on it and implementation is harder than anticipated.
