22k seems not true but I got hit for 8k in WvW by vault on my warrior with 2.8k Armor. The skill was an evade and done in stealth I also think its unblockable. Very Broken skill.

First to OP: there’s combat log you know? Next time don’t rush to forum writing nonsense but take 2 seconds of your life for a screenshot so we can actually take you seriously.
#Warlord: vault can actually being blocked/interrupted with a good timing since the evade doesn’t last for the full skill animation. Also do you think it’s unblockable? How about checking the skill tooltip before posting false things on the forum?

When I first got into GW2 I was really exited about the PvP because from the outside it looked like skill was a huge factor. I thought that unlike in other mmos, if I was really good, I could take on several people at once and still win. I thought that with enough skill, I would be able to even take on three people at once and still win.
Well now that I’ve gotten pretty good at PvPing I’ve realized that I was completely dead kittening wrong. Just in a two vs one scenario, unless both of your enemies are complete and utter dip kittens, you cannot 2v1. Now why is that? The answer is the downed state.
If the down state was simply a state at which you were able to be revived by a teamate and nothing else, I would be fine with that. However Anet doesn’t stop at just that. They decided that it was a good idea to not only give everyone extremely strong abilities in the down state, but even decent damage. We’ll take the most extreme case of the Revenant as an example. This class can hit for 1k damage per attack (which is quite fast) and also permanently slows you while doing so. On top of this, when you manage to get close to stomping him, he can knock you incredibly far away while putting 5 stacks of torment. Don’t get me started on their 3rd ability. Now imagine trying to stomp this opponent while any other class in riding your butt with massive damage and cc (because you’re not dodging).
Yes there are some gimiky ways to down someone such as invuln and stability, but not everyone has these abilities and more than likely they will be on cooldown from fighting the opponent you’re now trying to stomp. However, even with this gimiky stomp, several classes such as thief, mesmer, and elementalist, can say “kitten you” with their 2 abilites and foil your stomp.
I love this game’s PvP and I love having good team play, but the down state just feels WAY too strong for a downed state. I mean come on…if someone lost all of their HP, give them some consequences for crying out loud. In the case of the Revenent I swear he is stronger while DOWNED than while he is up (although Rev is pretty broken if played right while up).
I don’t care about PvE all that much to be honest, so keep the downstate if people like it in PvE, but it needs to be changed in PvP. The way it is now, you cannot 2v1 unless you are just fighting really really awful players.
TL : DR – Downed state is too strong and makes 2v1’s nearly impossible against somewhat competent players. This diminishes the value of skill. Players need to be a lot more helpless in downed state.

For how long have you been playing? Your topic reminds me of 3 years old topics on this same forum when the game was just released. Then people adapted and get experienced.

That was taken this morning actually. I must admit that for 1 sec I thought to have been caught in a DH trap tho. Then realized there was even a berseker in the enemy team
Welp, berserkers are kind of crap except for a random killshot/gunflame~ so cut them some slack xD. That’s probably the kill he got in a long time.
If they miss or you evaded it, they really cant do much against you. xD
of course I didn’t want to complain about berserker. I know their state is not better than ours. But still such dmg is broken, I would say the same if thieves could deal 20k dmg with 1 single it, even if everything else is subpar.
at least we should get a backstab dmg modifier when it ticks from stealth

If you’re unhappy don’t spend 10 bucks a month. I’ve also spent a lot on this game and sometimes I don’t agree with such balance changes, but cannot complain about money I decided to spend on my own.
Not for the reasons you think. I absolutely cannot stand shadowstep’s ability to teleport up terrain that is otherwise impassable.
Example: Thief teleporting around the ruins outside the Blue keep in EB. Every other class has to run around and up the stairs… They are unkillable in there because they can teleport up levels and nobody can follow.
Example: Cliffs outside of Green keep/ Along SMC west wall in EB. Every other class has to run around and up… thieves just teleport up instantly.
Example: Middle tower of Khylo… thieves can teleport up and in instantly.
I could go on and on all day.
I don’t give a rat’s kitten if thieves teleport around on flat ground, but this is just stupid. This is fun for precisely nobody but the thieves themselves and is a uniquely bullkitten mechanic.
Don’t worry mate, if thief would only stand a chance in 1v1, he won’t ever port away. But I guess you’re complaining cos you lost an easy kill.
It is extremely frustrating and unrewarding to play it atm. I wish devs would at least try this class out in pvp vs anyone that is not a dummy . One can just dream -_-

What are you asking for is to balance a class basing your request on a pvp video between 2 realy bad players? That makes sense and I guess Devs could even do it since they test things on dummies.

What’s the point of taking Roll for Initiative? I mean that skill is good but there’s maybe better options for s/d daredevil than a 60 sec breakstun, even if it gives back some initiative.
I’m trying to figure out why did you choose that skill over Others.
Give thieves the ability to use 3 weaponset at once for making it harder
Make traps with no cooldown and unblockable
Dodge is the only thing daredevil is left of

Unlike other really heavy hitting skills, backstab doesn’t have a telegraph – it, in fact, can have literally 0 telegraph. Without any counterplay or even the ability to dodge it, it necessarily can only hit so hard before becoming a really toxic skill.
I agree that it doesn’t exactly scare opponents that have put in some effort to tank up, but I’d be really wary of pushing it any further due to how it performs in Bronzodia; I’d rather see power elsewhere in the kit, if it is needed.
A dagger main thief going into stealth is not enough telegraphed for you? I would say that nackstab is the most telegraphed attack in the game.
Well, next time, just dodge trough him (pops all his traps) before trying any teleport and gg… you have 15 sec to down him.
i try evading at 0:56 seconds in, i almost die from the traps. Lucky i had shadowstep…
Don’t you know that thief is perma shadowstep too? That guardian was clearly outplaying you, shooting arrows from 1200 range and dealing massive dmg every 4 sec and traps is only for skilled players.
Your fault because thief is not meant to 1v1 any class but other thieves.
Also thief role is +1, next time wait for 1 teammate to engagé so you can be his pet.
I even saw a thief teleporting and going into stealth from downed. I took 3 more seconds for finish him. Nerf teleports and stealth pls, too OP

Other skills from thief aswell , like tactical strike (the daze is just too good) , larcenous strike (lol 1 boonsteal on NO cooldown).
And stealth-dodge thieves…this needs to be removed or toned down. Perma stealth + perma evade + perma blind + perma backstab is just too much in one built.Lol at you guys asking for buffs, get real. Please roll a thief and show me that perma everything build you’re talking about. Don’t forget to record how you clearly kill ppl in ranked while being carried by that overpowered build. After that teach us how to fight 1v1 in a king of the hill arena vs DH, Chronomancers, Reapers, Scrappers, Druids/Rangers and Revenants.
Clearly we are all baddies since we still need buffs while being carried so you PRO can show us the way to OPness.
Backstab is underperforming compared to what other classes can do with near to zero effort, but you cannot compare 2 so different weapon sets.
I agree that in this game every AoE hit should deal a lot of less damage than single target skills, but this is not the case.

Well I’d start by saying that full zerker was never meta in www since even before people would mix valkyrie gears with zerker gears.
Now that we can finally have one set that give us the right amount of power prec and vitality, without the need of mixing up different sets, why don’t use it?
Full zerker is too squishy and not realy usable by thieves in any competitive mode, it’s more a thing for high health pool classes like warrior or dps necros, and even they prefer other different stats combination

- perma stealth
- perma evasion
- 2 or 3 endless spam
- 10k OP backstab
- Shortbow 5
- still every team uses it in esl
- thieves need to L2P
- thief job is not supposed to 1v1 anyone but +1
- decap free bases

there’s no way for a thief to beat the current meta DH trap build. A good thief can survive and not die and even keep fighting for several minutes, but if the DH is not a completely brainless player, he won’t ever die.

Asking for reasonable buffs is more likely to be taken seriously than asking for a string of completely broken and overpowered ones.
Still, I mean, we had to ask for a really long time to get reasonable stuff like evade buffs on deathblossom or not-quite-a-fix for p/p
playing since beta I’ve never seen a small buff to thieves coming without a huge nerf to something else. Also I’ve never seen buffs to thieves staying untouched for more than 4 months. I’ve seen instead some clearly broken things (aka withdrow healing) not working as intended (as written on patch notes) and still not fixed after 2 big balance patch. On the other hand things like improvisation not working with new skills, being fixed in 2 days.
Honestly, if thief deviates from using SB offhand, there some rather nifty builds that can be made. Its conquest that forces such a stupid meta. Traps and wells would be trash tier without conquest. 0 mobility reapers would be a waste of a team slot. I like how stronghold deviates away from that point holding gameplay, but it still needs a lot of work.
So what you’re saying is that thief mobility (sb5) is what is keeping thieves alive in conquest since they have the worst teamfight potential. So moving away in another game mode that requires less mobility but more teamfight presence would benefit more thieves. Sounds right.
…I imagine somewhere out there, a dev is frantically taking notes about how the PvP community wholeheartedly agrees that thief is OP and should be next in line for the nerf bat.

are you kittening kittenting me? Thieves are the most overpowered class on this patch along with mesmers and you want 50% dmg reduction in stealth which is already the most kittened mechanic in the game by far.
stealth has no counterplay in this game and is the cheapest and most overpowered and certain disengage and a thief/mesmer/scrapper can just reset fights forever until they get a good opening
thief gameplay in a nutshell: get a bad opening? Stealth, reset fight, repeat until you get a good opening, spam 3 if you;‘re d/p or s/d or spam 5 if you’re staff thief with some dodges inbetween
thief is currently so kittening overpowered and braindead i have no kittening words what were arena net thinking ? oh right, they weren’t. They have more condi removals than elementalists , do insane dmg, unhindered by any kinds of slow/immobilization, the most stun breakers (steal isnt a stunbreaker but it does just the same thing, shadow step is 2 , infiltration signet if you run it is 3) with low cds huge kittening joke
same with mesmer except they have more dmg and less condi removal but in general are the same cancer and easy mode kitten

I think making this kind of thread as an answer to a troll thread isn’t really smart. It doesn’t provide anything, and let’s face it, devs won’t react to a post just saying :
“buff please” without further explanation.
We are left with nothing but trolling.
Agree that we should give right feedbacks but devs should also stop trolling us and give us an experienced and dedicated dev that mains thief.
I agree also that thief right now seems to be the only class realy balanced in between a bunch of overpowered other classes. Devs realy went out of control with power creep this time, it looks like no one thought at balancing but just at buffing their respective class. And which is the only class that doesn’t have a dedicated dev?
