Why are the Dev’s scared to turn it back on? Because players who genuinely disconnect will be penalized and come here and moan? Quite frankly, I suggest most people would agree, if you are suffering recurring bad connection problems and choose to play pvp, you deserve to be penalized and have no right to complain.

Yeah that’s the point actually. Why should he ruin 1/3 of other players game? I sometimes have realy high ping and bad dc, I prefer to not play at all and I’m looking to solve my issues once and for all but I cannot blame Anet for my personal problems

- feline grace should work like before nerf but only on succesfull dodges
- inf return should be instant and breakstun
- lacernous strike should steal 2 boons
- flanking strike unblockable
The next patch will be the last chance for me. If it fails I’ll ask for a refund
I suspect DD will be nerfed in the next balance patch like the old acro line

the idea is good but it won’t sort any effect cos it’s hard to do. We are not the full thief community in the game and we are already split between EU and NA and we have different playtimes.
I was speechless when I saw how amazing Druid was on stream, then I felt really bad for both eles and guardians. Hopefully DragonHunter gets alot better.

It’s just that I didn’t find any updated topic explaining why and when a dps thief should use sigil of blood over sigil of fire. The old topics stated that sigil of blood didn’t scale with power as like as sigil of fire, that’s why fire was a better choice. But looking at wiki descriptions nowadays it seems that blood has a power scaling too.
So what is better to use nowadays?

No. Signet of malice’s passive should keep its current functionality, buff the healing ratio if you like but don’t make it a boring, flat heal over time that doesn’t scale or allow cool skill interactions. I use SoM and can honestly say that I would get less healing when I actually need it, and more useless overheal if it worked that way. Making SoM’s active a condition purge with the same pretty crappy active heal and better healing power ratios would be enough to give it a compelling active effect without breaking literally every pve and wvw build that uses it, and indirectly nerfing 2/3 of the daredevil dodges that actually make it a lot more attractive (Lotus dodge is 9 attacks, which is 9 heals from SoM even on a single target, bound is up to 5 heals direcly following a heal on evade proc)
You’re basically asking for a nerf to signet of malice.
The other two, maybe, though I doubt Anet would be willing to give us full-on swiftness speed as a passive signet, or add life steal to a signet whos primary role is damage and not sustain.
After reading your good explanation about signet of malice I must say that you made some interesting points.
My point tho was that actives on signets should be worth it to use over passives at the cost of losing the passive effect for the cd duration, that I would suggest to increase a bit if the active effects would be realy that good. At the moment it’s not always the case.
Shortbow. The only weapon worth to use after devs destroyed every other choice.
In my opinion signets passives should be weaker than their active effects by a large margin. At the moment the only 2 signets that are realy worth it to activate for their active effect are Signet of Agility and Infiltrator Signet.
1) Signet of Malice —> passive should work like Healing signet —> then increase the active heal and make thieves invulnerable and immune to conditions during the casting time and for 5 secs —> increase the cd to 40 seconds
2) Signet of Shadows —> increase passive speed to 33% —> Active should give 3 seconds of stealth and became a stun break —> 40 sec cd
3) Assassin Signet: Increase passive physical and condition damage by a little margin —> the active should give life steal and 100% condition transfer for the next 5 attacks
Revealed was done cos apparently for some people there wasn’t any counter play to stealth, even if indeed there are many.
Well for sure there is no counter play to reveal, so add something that can counter this debuff now. If everything needs a counter in this game, even reveal needs one.

Thieves asking to efficiently 1vs1 all other classes that must invest in defense, while they can focus entirely on the offensive because stealth is already a strong defensive mechanic and their attacks can be spammed thx to initiative
Hold on…..why the hell should I even play any other profession if a thief can simply 1vs1 anybody, run faster than anybody, decap better than anybody and stealth reset any fight?

Sure you can use 2 times in a row 1 skill at the cost of putting every other skill on cooldown. This is the thief! And iniziative based skills are no efficient as any other skill in the game for the reason they can be used twice in a short time.
The reason that Thief is choosen only for SB 5 explains well how bad is all the rest of the class. I would trade anytime that skill for a stronger presence in team fight and the ability to 1v1 anyone on the same balance level.
Thief is the worst class when played with pugs with no coordination. Cos it lacks team fight potential and even if you’re a good roamer, it’s hard to win if you’re only role is decapping free bases and help to +1 teammates that move around without any logic.
TL;DR enemy reveals are basically a “nope” button against thieves. We need counterplay.
stealth has no counterplay currently. thieves will need to learn their multiple teleports and evades to leave the area when “reveal” utility is used. simple as that.
Yeah Thief is the best class 1v1 cos OP stealth. That’s the only reason thief is choosen over other classes in pvp teams. Also 5 thieves team should be banned cos it is blatanty OP
EDIT: where are our multiple ports? The only ground target teleport I can think of is shadowstep on 50 sec cd and shortbow 5 usefull for running away draining all our iniziative. The others are a sign on 30 sec cd and a couple of weapon skill that require an enemy target anyway. So not realy the best optio for disengage.

I don’t care about balance or what could be OP since devs seem to not care as well..
1- revert back the original damage on C&D plus add blind effect to the skill
2- revert back the original damage on dagger skill 4
3- change dual dagger skill 3 to AoE physical damage instead of bleeding damage and add an immobilize effect to it
4- increase base backstab damage
5- remove casting time from sword skill 2, increase the immobilize effect, make it be a stun break again on shadow return
6- make sword/dagger skill 3 fully unblockable and steal 2 boons again
7- make higher boyh the damage and projectile speed of postol autoattacks
8- make ricochet native in dual pistol 3 (unload)
9- pistols and shortbow to 1200 range
10- add a blast effect to pistol nr 4
feel free to add more, I got to go to work now
It is idiotic to think that thieves are allowed to use only one playstyle per patch. Also even from a marketing point of view, destroying one class customization for giving visibility to the new shiny spec, forcing everyone to buy and using it, is not a good move. A lot of people I know that are all veterans with 3 years of gw2 experience are not even going to buy the expansion till there will be good balance, matchmaking and a working soloQ. So forcing this people out of the game is not good for the pvp community that is still suffering in numbers
Or they could simply change offensive (applied by enemy) revealed to “spotted” debuff like in WoW. You are still in stealth and profit from all stealth buffs but enemies can see your half visible silhuette.
Poison for example doesn’t completely prevent eles or guards from using their heals, why the hell should revealed applied by enemies deny thieves most of their mechanics? Most stupid design idea i saw since first season Cata/MoP in wow.
Everything would be ok at this time. Everything to counter 1 skill that can deny all together one full trait line of ours, one of the few worth to play we are left with
As the title says.. now that revealed is being given for free to half of the classes and since this is done only because people find annoying to fight vs disappearing things, at least let the thief to mantain all its stealth bonuses even when the revealed is up.
I mean it’s enough to be a sitting duck out of stealth and waste long utilities cooldowns to disengage once.

-If a thief is in Shadow Refuge, its because they’re trying to recover, don’t let them sit there and do it. Place your aoes on the ring, use your wolf’s fear, etc..-Is there a debuff that stops your class from clearing condis, using your burst, or regenerating health? No? Welcome to reveal for thief.
That one minute cooldown SR that you dropped to rez a teammate? Don’t worry, engi can pop a 900 unit aoe reveal on a 30 second cooldown.
-with sb and axe/torch my only aoes are player based and running into the shadow refuge is usually a bad idea,
-i have MINIMAL control over my pets, how do i get my wolf in there ? i cant tell him where to move and the animation is like 2 seconds long, so hard to avoid.
- your shadow refuge has a 60 sec cd? ok pistol 5 and dagger 2? dagger 5? the stealth heal? shortbow 5 has a blink with 0 cd easy for escaping, the blind wall and dagger 2? steal has a stealth im pretty sure (working off the top of my head). that is all without actually opening up the game and reading through traits and all utilities. see an engi aoe reveal? retreat and come back just after?
retreat and NEVER come back considered that AoE reveal is on a 20 sec cd, people seem to forget this particular. Thieves already avoided engies before cos the match up was realy unbalanced, then A-Net decided engies needed even more stuffs to deal with thieves.
If devs realy want the thief to be only good at mobility and at creating +1 situations, remove stealth at all from the class and give us even more speed and shadowsteps. At least we can avoid better every team fight or 1v1 and enjoy capping only empty nodes.

I’m not going to say L2P, but the fact is that you’re relatively new to the game. It’s not your fault, everyone at the beginning struggled vs stealth, cos it’s the less intuitive mechanic in the game, but in few weeks of practice you will understand how to deal with it. Of course if you spend your time playing the game instead of making incorrect statements on this forum.
You will understand where now you’re wrong, trust me.

I could roll a revenant if I could see some sort of balance in this game. What if in a future expansion they will nerf to the ground Revenant for selling the new fotm class? Devs are losing credibility.

There are so many other things that need to be fixed about thief: venoms, traps, d/d, p/p, acrobatics, critical strikes, valuable condition removal, some burning application, and so on. I am sure thieves would be more appealed to have existing weapons, skills and traits fixed than having a new specialization.
I’m going to ask a refund for HoT and won’t buy it again till something change for good.

I have no problem against stealth, even with no reveal skills. I have problems against anything else tho. Because as a thief I lack counters to burning or heavy condition spam, I have no counter to invulnerability and blocks. Stealth is easibly counterable.

Here are you talking about mesmer right? Cos in the current state it’s thief that lacks counter play against others, not viceversa.
Then show me how to perma blind an engie or shadowstep away (50 sec cd) than come back and being revealed again with an AoE 900 range spell (20 sec cd).
Not talking about double dagger thieves that will be hit even harder but they are still non existent in pvp so who cares right?
Sure we got our new awsome specialization now that HoT comes, with an awsome new weapon that has an awsome knockback from stealth with 0 dmg, even if it doesn’t have any field for combo and even any stealth skill.
Well thieves probably will play Daredevil (the new acrobatic 2.0) anyway with evasion and 0 stealth till the next balance patch.

you forgot that our whole trait line is based on stealth…. i wish i had a 900 range, aoe spell on 20 sec CD that prevented mesmers from using shatter and creating clones for 6 sec
Yeah, while you lose your stealth for 6 seconds you still have blind spam, shadowsteps, steal interrupt through stability. Im sorry your glorious stealth got counter but you have still a lot defences and after 6 seconds you can disappear again +15 seconds and full reset the fight.
So what do you say is that out of stealth we can only blind or shadowstep away for surviving. Thanks for proving that we need stealth for setting up our attacks or it’s better to run away. The new DD specialization might come in hand but having again only 1 viable build to be on par with other classes when others have 2/3 viable choices is not what I call balance
I have been calm for 3 years and I have given lots of money for this game and my class. Every time waiting for the next balance update. Now I think I have the right to be disappointed since in 3 years I never saw a good balance compromise with the thief

Ironically that is what i’m going to play when they nerf ele. And no sustain is relative considering on my thief I can just go invis, run away, heal, come back, invis, reposition, burst, invis, run away, heal, come back, invis… you get the idea. I’m sure you’ve played thief before.
Yeah I’ve played thief “sometimes” in pvp. Are you sure you did the same against something that is not a Golem dummy?
the solution is not making the same goal, as gaining big amount of golds or the same legendaries, between different gameplay types.
It would be cool if pvpers and also WvWers could get something unique for them that pve players cannot get only by farming bosses and dungeons.
PvP and WvW exclusive legendaries could be a start. Winning Gems could also appeal many players.
The weird thing behind this is that one could rightly say Illusions are the mesmers mechanic, and the thief using stealth completely hard counters them. Would you compromise by making it so that all ai wasn’t fooled by stealth? One could parry your language, playing Devils advocate, and say that stealth itself counters the mesmers and ranger class mechanics.
What? Illusions and pets that keep track of the thief in stealth and start moving and attacking the thief 0.000001 seconds after he leaves stealth, even if the thief is moved far away or hiding behing a wall? Illutions and Pets have the best reaction time I have ever seen
Also I could argue that channeling skills like Rapid Fire, counter stealth even better than skills that apply reveal
Revealed training isn’t counterplay. Counterplay is when someone reveals me and I can do something or something happens to react to it so I’m not totally screwed, or can even possibly turn the tables. 200 power with no access to backstab or my main survival source isn’t very valuable. It doesn’t counteract the reveal. It just gives a mild buff.
Example of active counterplay: if an SA trait made steal remove reveal, I could save steal instead of opening with it, then use it to counter the effects of lock on/sic ’em or what have you.
Example of passive counter: Mirror of Anguish. Wanna try and lock down that Mesmer? Joke’s on you. In this case it’s not active counterplay since it’s automatic, but it is certainly a counter.
I already mentioned elsewhere a couple of great ideas:
1.A Shadow Arts grandmaster trait that totally ignores reveal skills.
2.Many stacks of burning and bleeding upon being revealed.
For me a trait that completely remove reveal would be too OP cos it leads again to the first state of stealth this game had at the beginning.
Also giving this trait to 1 specific trait line is like making that traitline almost mandatory for thieves that rely on stealth and I don’t like mandatory things cos build differenzation should be the goal. We already have trickery that is too mandatory.
My personal idea is to remake all adept traits in all trait line but DD in a way similar to this:
- Deadly Art: When a foe applies reveal on you, he gets immobilized for 2s and up to 3 boons converted to conditions
- Critical Strike: When a foe applies reveal on you, he gets critted for 3k in an AoE circle that damage also foes around him, the thief is healed for half the total damage
- Shadow Art: Stealth last 1s longer and reveal last 50% less
- Acrobatics: When a foe applies reveal on you, refill your endurance and convert your conditions to Boons
- Trickery: When a foe applies reveal on you, break stun and shadowstep away, also gain 3 initiativegain
2. Rune of Vampirism.
I would remove every passive effect attivation from runes and traits:
such as remove/give X thing when healt reach the % threshold
do you know that if Thieves go full dps they have no sustain as well? Oh well they have no sustain at all nowadays
Lets face it. Anet will never implement something so long winded and time consuming as a mechanic to deny other classes of their core abilities/mechanics. Not to say they’re lazy, but they’d probably all gather in their little meeting room and the dude who’d have to program it would raise his hand and say “kitten that”.
We should be asking for a counter to the real problem. We need to be able to remove or negate Reveal. Whether it be from a Grandmaster Trait in SA or tack on a Reveal Remove to an existing ability which could use some love, cough Signet of Shadows cough.
I could go on all day about how I think it should be done, and my opinion will differ to yours and the devs over at Anet.
At the end of the day we need Reveal Removal on a similar cooldown to abilities that Reveal to keep the balance in check.
Anet pls.
Something able to completely remove the reveal mechanic would be too OP for me and even if I like it, I guess that never it will be implemented. Also something like that would be too mandatory for a thief to have and will result in even less thief differentiation, something like the trickery line is nowadays.
I don’t mind reveal, if we can get some other powerfull options that don’t require stealth at all, and I don’t mean only one other spec that uses evasion as the main source of defense. I mean at least 3 or 4 equally strong and different options (I know it’s pure utopy) for the thief, so that other classes are not forced in taking an anti stealth tool for countering our only decent spec at the moment.
Of course I hate these anti stealth things, since their only purpose is to completely negate what the thief class can do at the moment. And it’s wrong.
Even if I like these suggestions I think it’s worth it for us to suggest something easier to implement. I don’t want to be mean but looking at what A-Net has doing against thieves I don’t think they will implement something like totally negate death shroud on steal. We should ask for something that makes thieves valuable to have in a team, and no, mobility is not anymore a specific thief thing. I would like to have more spec option for pvp that don’t rewuire only d/p and stealth for survive. At the moment we have only one spec that can barely compete and for this reason we are easily counterable nowadays.

I’m playing since the game release and I have over 2500 hour on the Thief class. Sometime I feel bored and quit the game, but I always come back for a new try. I’m Guildless and Teamless right now for a personal choice but I would like to exchange some knowledge and tricks about this class with other veterans.

The problem is not thief but almost every other class making thief feels so useless right now.
