Right, I’m sorry, forgot it’s in the PvP-, not the thief-section. If I hear a thief complaining about invulnerability… Thieves have the easiest way to avoid it at all. Just let it wear off while sitting in stealth, I really don’t know how hard it can be.
In PvP, thieves have a lot of other strengths than just dealing damage. Well timed shadow refugees for example can win a lot of fights for your team. If you want a bunker… roll another class for PvP. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. But saying that thieves needs massive buffs by doubling their damage because otherwise they’re useless is like saying that elephants are weaker than leopards because they can’t climb trees.
The problem right now is that bunker can deal more damage than glass cannons.
If the thief role realy should only be to ress teammates and decap free bases, then bunkers role should only be to defend node and support teammates with condition cleanse. I wonder how many bunkers will be happy in their new role that doeans’t involve killing anyone.
It’s too easy to say that thief is not meant for 1v1ing but mobility is its strenght while every other class can do anything else much better.
I think a damage buff to Backstab and Larcenous Strike would be a good start to put the power thief build into a better spot.
Increase the front damage to 2.4 coef and the backstab to 4.8. Also, revert Mug back so it can crit. Revert CnD and Dancing Dagger damage to what it was at release.
This won’t address the sustain issue but it will address the 1v1 issue. It also bring back D/D.
Jesus, what did you smoke? You’re already taking half of a player’s health with one backstab, do you want to oneshot everything or what?
Backstab does between 4k and 6k crits in sPvP, if you have 12k health, you might want to switch out of Berzerker amulet.
Although, 4.8 coef would be too much. I was thinking a 20 to 30% buff, not 100%. That’s crazy talk.

Just testing again against light golems in HotM Light Golem.
So 2180 armor and 14.000 health. Backstab was around 4500-5500 crits in that case (meta-build). So even the highest would never get half of your HP, you need to be melee and on the side/back of your enemy. Automatic cooldown through revealed, needs stealth.
Now YOU come here and ask us what we smoke? Wth! First get your knowledge up to date and then play thief some time against competent enemies (PVP, not WvW).
A lot of skills have a similar “cooldown” like backstab while being ranged, higher damage, tracking, etc. Normally backstab is only the opener on thief on the metabuild, while most damage comes through autoattack and shadowshot.If I run with 2.9k armor and 20k hp, thiefs can take half my hp with one backstab combo. Thief doesn’t need invulnerability. The ten thousand of dodges on sb/staff/sword and the stealth sitting is by far one of the best defense mechanisms in 1v1 situations. While I agree that thief’s aren’t made for fighting on a point 4v4, they have their place in PvP – roaming between points, helping decap points, ressing, finishing. In WvW a thief can reset the fight whenever he wants. I know some very good thief players who mastered this class and it’s one of the most entertaining things fighting them and seeing them fight. If you die as thief fast, it’s a l2p issue. Even a full glass thief has so many defense mechanisms, you should hardly die in any 1v1 situation where you don’t get instant-bursted like from, for example, a burn guard. And if the fight doesn’t work well for you or it takes too long, you can reset anytime. So many thiefs I fight are rubbish, but I have highest respect from those I know to be good.
Resetting fights doesn’t count as a win in pvp. Even more if another class can easily keep capped a node while you’re trying hard to survive with your thief. And no, going for a free cap everytime is not entertaining enough.
WvW is a different story, that belongs to another forum tho.

i actualy laugh while im playing on my dear thief.. everyting hits like a truck… But hey anet gave us 1 more dodge.. and we can run pretty fast to ^^ but yeah im geting tired to be the go deacap free base role or be the +1 guy… mobility aint enough atm..
There are 8 other classes you can play, with multiple viable builds per class. If thief doesn’t have what you need, maybe try rerolling instead of asking the devs to change the game for you.
Obviously “play the game the way you want” doesn’t mean anything anymore nowadays.
It’s much better to quit and ask for a refund than just screw a class, thief, where I invested a lot of my time and money in.

Seriously Anet, all I ask for as a sword-dagger thief is a modest boost to damage for Larcenous Strike. Just throw me this one little bone and I promise to slink away for another few months.
or just add more nodes to conquest, so we can actually find 1 free to cap node anytime, since now with our new shiny spec we excel at running away.
A rush mode could also be a thing tho.

Oh while we at it, the description should mention that if any team ends up having more than one thief, those thieves will be griefed by own team (which will verbally harass them and/or afk ).
I never experienced such behavior on any class (nor any game for that matter) (no matter how crappy i played those classes) but thieves and it became really frequent recently. Thank you devs fo such great class blance that motivates other players to grief thief players.
But when you ask those players, they say thief is OP and deserve more nerfs.

We need fixes to bugged skills and traits first. That could be the better buff we can hope to get.

If you lose to a thief 1v1 on any class you are significantly worse than that thief player.
As for the whole mobility vs 1v1 ability debate. Look thief gave up its team fighting ability for the mobility it has. The fact now that the 1v1 ability is gone should be reversed.
I’m sure a lot of ppl will try to shout down my PoV and that’s ok. It won’t work due to them having absolutely zero facts to counter me but they can voice their opinion.
Just wanna say about losing to a thief… often a thief will win because of Ping. Ping adds a lot of power to stealth that isn’t actually part of the game. If we were all playing on a LAN I’d be more inclined to agree with you…
I’ve played a fair bit of thief and the playstyle of thief has pretty much (imo) been getting worse and worse ever since the game began. Thief was actually awesome in pre-launch Beta and didn’t ‘rely’ on stealth at all. Lots has changed since then, and imo I think what would save Thief would be if Anet completely reworked the stealth mechanic – unusable/limited use in combat would be a great start and that would force some positive changes (imo).

Even when mesmer was kitten and thief was amazing, he was still able to beat me 1v1.

Playing against classes with stealth access is only hard if you fail to have an understanding of how it can be countered. and it doesn’t show anything other than your lack of experience and skill in understanding how advanced gw2’s pvp system is.
Lets get a few things straight. Personally for me, I don’t have a problem winning more than the majority of my fights in a 1v1 scenario, against opponents with and without stealth. There are not many thieves and mesmers that I would even consider to be a threat in a 1v1 matchup in conquest. However having ease against classes that use stealth does not mean that the mechanic of stealth is not flawed. Your simply mistaking player skill with flawed game mechanics. They are two different issues entirely.

It’s not about your personal skill in combat.
It’s about the effort we must put vs the effort other classes put to down a thief. 1 error and we are dead, when we play in a perfect way, other classes can do lots of mistake snd sometimes even survive. Not counting that in contest, wasting too much time on a node is counterproductive
In the meanwhile people can 1 hit anything from 1200 range. But they have no stealth so it’s fine.

What about if reveal could just be as any other condition? So we could remove it bringing condition removal? I don’t think it could be to OP since thief is already weak vs conditions and wasting the few cond removal we have just for 1 reveal might not always be the best idea.
This game is not focused on 1v1 but I think it should. Only in this way we could have every class equally strong. I’m a good roamer and decapper but still I’m so kittened of doing only this role. I don’t even partecipate in teamfight anymore and sometimes I end matches with 0 ppl killed. About ressing, no problem, a war banner is better than me. I just need go decapping and avoiding to be killed. IT’s my role bu it’s not fun

This is what I was running.
I know that your build is focused on using fist flurry for a double pulmonary effect but your build realy lack any sort of damagin condition removal but for shadowstep on 50 sec cd.
I think with D/P you can have plenty of ways to interrupt anyways. Also with condi removal on tricks and cd reduction too you can survive better to all this condition spam that occurs nowaday.

It’s also hard to get used to the playstyle.:P I just believe that thief needs a little more sustain from condition damage:P But the rest is all fine. I mean with skillful play we can mitigate / avoid most of the damage.
Other classes can avoid ALL the damage by facerolling on the keyboard
Daredevil got all while other trait line got nothing. I don’t wanna talk about how other elite specs are so much better even than DD but obviously Anet created a mandatory tree over any other one that overall is the first tree thieves got that is perfect for every weapon choice.

I’ve tried everything but condition builds since I don’t like conditions.
Every build was fun to play and I sid very well but the other specs realy feels so much imbalanced and I’m scared to think once players will discover their full potential.
I’ve realized that you can buff DD all you want but it’s pointless till you won’t badly nerf every other elite spec.
Seriously those specs are so imbalanced now, but once people will master them, they will be the most broken thing ever seen.
Vertical mobility.
In a pvp map when you know where to teleport with SB you can cover the map much faster than with perma swiftness following the normal route. Also SB is good for disengage fast from critical situations
Fixing bugs or things not properly working as intended should not require a patch every 6 months but should be an hot fix done few hours after the patch is out.
not gonna happen. Channelled hits tracking you into stealth is something that’s been here since the release so let’s live with it now and forever.
Don’t use stealth as a counter to a rapid fire, just interrupt it or use environments around you to cover yourself. That’s all!
The most stupid thing are skills that make your char to autoface your target, so even attacking from the back is worthless.
i agree that p/p is very squishy and lack escape, but i think people really underestimate hasted unload with basilisk venom..it is not that easy to dodge, especially in 3v3 fights when people tying to contest a point they probably won’t see it coming.
and if the p/p thief is good with positioning, he can rack up many kills in a matter of seconds.
if all else fail, then you do have a secondary weapon set..
do you know what? the p\p thief reminds me about DPS engi. In the first team fight you can catch ppl off guard of course, after that anyone with half a brain that understand what you’re doing, will focus you badly and you will be just an easy target to shut down.
The first rule of a team fight is to focus the dps and squishiest target, and you know what? the p\p thief is the squishiest of all class. GW2 doesn’t have dedicated healers that can keep you alive, you need your own stuffs.
As I said the problem was not the damage but the fact that in this game to survive you need some stuffs that p\p thief is still lacking. We don’t have invulnerability, blocks, a second life bar and so on., so less damage and more tricks would make p\p a realy nice set to use.
P/P didn’t need more damage.
Since thieves have no way to gain stability, Unload is easy to interrupt. After that the thief is left ’’naked’’ vs enemy’s attacks.
What this set needs is:
1- 1200 range
2- Blast finisher to gain stealth
3- Evade frame during unload even at the cost of revert the damage buff
4- Skill 2 changed into a teleport or blink for disengage from enemy pressure (what I would like to see is this skill to be splitted in 2 part: the first one that immobilize and put vulnerability like it’s now, the second part that blink you 900 range back from your target. Something similar to Mesmer’s ’’Illusionary Leap" but at the opposite.
Make all this changes and then you can revert the damage buff on every skill.
EDIT: regarding the OP, you clearly fought vs unskilled players. Nothing wrong with you mate, but playing a 1skill weapon set is wrong in pvp, even more if this set is soo vulnerable and has no way to disengage. Skilled players after the first team fight and seeing what you are using, will start focusing you badly at any encounter with coordinated atacks. BOOM thief dead in 2 secs

FYI the damage increases weren’t part of a re-work of pistols or anything (something I’ve discussed in the past). We realize it still needs some work to get it to where we want, but we wanted to get it closer to being to that point with these changes. We’ll be looking at pistols more in-depth in the future.

What about fixing withdraw so that it actually heal with a 10% increase? It’s hard to fix bugs Karl?
What about to give to Ankle Shot that 10% dmg increase as shown in the tooltip?
Or we must assume that with every patch the thief gets stealth nerfs over the usual nerfs?
Well I won’t sit afk but I won’t give any fighting support either. My only goal from now on will be decap free points and run from base to base avoiding every fight and every enemy I encounter. If any teamate ask for an help, I’d say to blame Anet for not giving thieves any good utilities but SB #5.
I will use double Shortbow of course.

I play all classes but thief is my main and the only reason I could keep playing this game.
So people who only playing this game for pvp shouldn’t buy the expansion since pvp is left behind wvw and pve?

Actually my problem it’s not the cost or money. I want a refund just to give a strong signal to the devs that cannot keep showing no interest in the thief class

This cracked me up, not because it’s funny, but because a couple years ago, the exact opposite was true, when 2-2-2-2-2 on a thief could win fights. Someone above posted the infamous video in question.
Except with this patch ele was also nerfed, so even if you switch you’ll just be average-good instead of godlike.
Except the 22222 thief was never a meta godlike thing except vs unskilled players.
