They’re so sad. But w/e playing warrior nowadays shows a clear lack of skil. Anyway as I said, I don’t care anymore, I loke playing subpar sets nowadays for trolling ppl and make them screaming in chat that thief is useless. Same ppl that on forum ask for thief nerfs.
The thing is… there’s no skill in passive blocks either

Simply thief is fine as it is, other classes are not and require a nerf bait. Finally AoE condition spam is out of control.

I bunker because of Warriors, Necros, and Engis.
It’s crazy how people still cry about thieves everytime and don’t say anything about the crazy out of control damage Berserkers can deal nowadays. But then the same people would never take a thief over a warrior in ranked pvp and thieves are always listed at the bottom when talking about meta builds.
have you stopped just a moment to think why metas gravitate to bunkers when it is posible and people uses the many defensive automatic procs that are posible… just for a simply reason: glass canons are not allowed to exist because of thiefs, a class whith a broken by design sinergic mechanic (stealth+high movility/ports) what can chase down glass canons in a few seconds apearing off nowhere and banishing in air after down you apearing only a few seconds after to take the stomp.
This. Biggest reason for bunkers are thieves, a class that should never even have left alpha stage in development.
What if they nerfed theive attacks like back stab a little but have it some sort of armor ignore property so it won’t one shot zerks and gains a little effectiveness against bunkers
I realy don’t understand why every f… problem have to be related to thieves. Even in the current meta where a lot of pro thieves have quit the game or have switched to other better performing classes., in every “list your OP class” topic, thieves are listed at the bottom by the majority, many pro teams don’t even use thieves anymore in their roster, a lot of classes can easily deal as much, if not more, dmg than thieves nowadays, but thief is still the answer to any problem this game is affected with.
A balanced build will always be better than a full offense or a full defense build. I think eliminating the strong passives would help tone down the survivability of some classes.
In any other game jack of all trades can do anything, but they do it worst than any damage or defence focused build. Usually splitting stats is never the best idea. Only on gw2, things seem to work in a different way.
I think it all depends on your ability to kill faster their squishy dpsers. That’s why I feel thief is useless against a 5 bunker team if they have a bit of brain, cos everyone can rotate and we are not anymore the best class at roaming, but certanly we are the squishier.

Thief wont be Meta and S/D will surly not be Thief’s Meta. Power creep sill present, Thief still dies to random AoE; blocks, invulns and passives still determines which class is stronger than the other. Protection boon still being thrown around like candy, every class except teef has it. I’m done with PvP. If you wanna play something competitive, play Street Fighter V.
Even Dark Souls 3 PvP is more fun than playing a thief in GW2’s joke of a PvP.

What were you stealing from before? Thin air? It’s amazing how long that have been going on.
Sometimes mechanics overule lore, but this is a case of lore overruling mechanics. It just didn’t make any sense.
Now, I would not be against some F3 skill slot that can give the thief some sort of self-boost. Like a second pocket you can get. maybe with a trait, that stores defensive items instead offensive ones like F2 does, and make it so boons, stealth stun breaks and other self-targeted effects are linked to that one instead on stealing.
So, for example, stealing from a mesmer with that pocket would no longer give you a plasma that gives boons, but a skill that deals lots of short duration conditions on the enemy, and one usual plasma that gives the thief lots of short boons; from a guardian you’d get the usual mace, but also something that gives some stacks of stability and aegis to self; and so on.
You then choose to use either, but both are lost when either is used.But stealing itself has to reach an enemy and actually steal from them to have its effects.
I guess I should permanently steal legendaries and gold too from my foes ,where is the logic when I cannot actually steal from the enemy’s inventory
Balance patch is a thing while hotfix is another. I can accept the fact that they’re planning to do 1 balance patch every 3 months but if something is broken, an hotfix is required soon. Let the broken things go on for 3 months will let this game losing on popularity.

I’m so happy I started to play again ESO. The only reason I played gw2 over ESO was for thief and pvp, since I consider ESO rvr and PvE much better than WvW, I see no reason to stay here any longer.
I already left for eso while waiting for dark soul 3. Checking forum for some balancing if it ever comes. If not, I don’t care anymore.

That’s true. People are so used to spam things without even get a target or even know what they are hitting, that they might lose when they meet any decent player.
Agree with OP that this game is far from being a skilled game nowadays and pro teams have pro teamplay, pro builds and pro sinergy between them but there are only few pro players.

Here’s what I can gather from it.
Everyone and their mum loses it if warrior and thief aren’t represented at all. Even though we’ve spent nearly 3 years where one has nearly always had a place on every team and the other has flip flopped between stack to the roof, mandatory or token cleanse/heal bot.
Here’s hoping the next big balance patch shakes it up and we see these two classes back, maybe guard and ele can take a time out from being meta?
Or you know, we could have a “balanced” meta where every single class has one or more viable builds for all levels of play.
It’s no fun when 1 or 2 classes suck eggs and the rest are either overpowered or in a good spot.
That’s the dream, but it’s very very hard to accomplish. Successful esports like LoL, etc. don’t have that kind of balance. There will always be some champ/class out of the meta or on the bottom of it. It’s not as big of a problem in LoL because there are soooo many characters. There are only 9 classes in GW, though, which makes the gap more apparent.
Not saying there isn’t more Anet could do, balance-wise, but there will always be the classes considered the best for the meta, and the one or two that will lag behind and see little to no play at all until the meta shifts.
True but that’s why lol solved the imbalance issue with bans. Also they nerf and buff chsmpions also based on popularity in high ranked matches and what is banned more often than others. Here even if one class ( I correct myself 1 build) is over used in esl or pro league, it’s rarely nerfed for the sake of balance.

Hello guys, just a short discussion about the HoT meta. With the ESL pro league synthesis, we have seen that thieves and war arent represented, DH are not over represented too. Therefore, a lot of them have posted “up thief , war and Dh”.
I want to say here, during the 2 years before HoT lauch pvp meta was clear: guard, war, thief (and ele). And it was normal… If you are ingi, necro, mesmer, ranger it was hard to catch a place in a team. I don t talk here about pve, because it was worst:

Guys, you had never been worry about others professions, it was normal that just yours was op. Now it is the opposite, why we have to be worry?
The first time that the game is unbalanced is when thieves and warrior are not in the top tier? Bur the game is not just war and thieves.Actually Scrapper, Druid, Tempest, Chrono, Reaper and Herald are used because of their team play (buff, condi, cc, support etc).
You have built 3 professions around damage, damage and damage, this is why berserk, DH and thieves are not used. You want a high personnal dps without team utility, it´s cool, but don t complain about pvp team meta.If Anet buff war, thief, guard and nerf the others drasticlly, they dont understand the message explained here.

All I read is Steal counters Revenant at all. What a joke is that? We also know there’s a bug preventing UA, so we should’t even compare thief to revenant till the bug is fixed. And even now it’s a hard matchup for thieves. Sure Rev is not the hardest, I would say that DH and Scrappers are the worst.
We are the only class that can be countered by any other class.
Thief does fine vs revenant in 1v1. Land a steal and abuse of slow … The revenant is almost dead after that. (ofc it has blocks – evades – heals but … with a cast)
Thus, UA is buggy with slow apply on the revenant . Instant Stealth just stop UA.

Sizer, the thief in the 500-0 game is a great player. Watch his uncut streams for S/D duels with all classes and 5v5’s. Most duels he wins and in 5v5’s he decaps like a boss – that’s all there is for thief in 5v5 remember

Yeah that’s what I mean. Even a player like Sizer doing realy badly while playing his preferred weapon set, is not a signal of how bad is the thief class, I don’t know what else to say. After Sizer loss, people start claiming that sizer is no more a team player and thief sucks only because thieves are bad players. In the while all other players owning with their classes are good players not being carried by the class/elite. That’s non sense.
I can’t take it anymore. The class has such a narrow scope to be successful in spvp and the few morons left playing the class refuse to fulfill that role 90% of the time. They just want to 1v1 and die over and over again. Please boost them so some people with a clue come back.

No, it’s just that the thief population is so big in PvP yet you can find very small number of good thieves who actually know their role in 5v5. (preHOT, all 1v1 servers, half of the players are thieves, you will get atleast 1 thief in unranked or ranked most of the time)

It’s time we stop having fate in Anet since It’s from the first hot beta they didn’t talk to us about our thought on daredevil and even then they only changed staff animations
I log in just for the daily reward then log off and spend my time on something funnier since they destroyed my fun of playing thief.
Devs want that new players play revenant. They made everything to push the new playerbase in that direction.
Thief players should read those skill tooltips. It’s much easier play when you know what your skills do.
We’ve been reading and also testing for 3 years now.
Devs should do the same sometimes, but I guess testing dmg on dummies is enough.
We are the only class that can be countered by any other class.
Balance is when you can at least counter 50% of the classes in the game while being countered by the other 50%

after doing some raids and pvp with rev, ini is NOT issue and this change won’t do anything for thieves
what thieves need is dmg boost and way to get through defensives (prot/invuls etc.)
also they REAAALLLLYYY need massive buff to team support capability (be it boon share, heal etc.) otherwise there is no point to bring them anywhere
i am running atm on rev doing 12k AAs alone while sharing might with everyone, blasting fields is history~
Initative is a problem – I said it in another thread (in case someone wonders he’s heard that before) :
I watched an old video of a D/D thief recently, he was running 26600 = 12 initative.
And after a while I wondered why he really only used CnD and BS (and rarely Dancing Dagger) – because he couldn’t affort anything else.
But the initative is what brought us the problems we have: We can “spam BS”, so we were made glassier and glassier and were more and more forced to be “endless stealthed”. And then they brought revealed traits/skills as a counter and gave other classes better stealth- that is the part I don’t get.
If they now gave us a longer reveal so we couldn’t spam stealth + BS we would basically have a cooldown system – which we kind of already have when forcefully revealed.
1) give thief the same base health of mesmers and engis
2) 15 or even 20 ini baseline and weapon swap gives back half of the missing initiative
3) Ways to remove revealed or remove all skills that applies it or since always more classes but thieves can apply it, just remove the self applied reveal.
Ha! Another 1 jumping the bandwagon for easy mode. Coward. Oh well this game is about…..is meant to be about having fun so if thief dosnt give you fun any more then fair enough. But still of all classes you go DH :-/

at least there is a role for it, warrior has nothing.
Backcapping and +1 is not a role. Even a warrior can do it.
If your idea is to create build diversity then sure great! I like diversity but not in this direction.
1. It will decrease my enjoyment of pvp(personal reason)
2. It increases the barrier of entry to new players. How? Lets say I only know how to play auramancer (ele) but then you ban away tempest so now I have to go some other build I don’t know, then several games later im getting stomped not only due to lack of experience in the mode but also because im playing a build I don’t know. (Learn? that’s not a good mentality and drives people away)
3. How much time do you give someone to reset their build? Unless they are completely familiar with their class they might take time to pick their traits/utilities/sigils/amulette/weapon etc. So how long do you give me to do that? 5 mins? I don’t want a 3-7 mins wait time to only wait for 5 minutes longer. this increases the length per game by two fold.There are many more reasons but generally it has too many flaws as a mmo to ban one something so big.
The main goal is to give build diversity of course but also to define what is considered OP by the playerbase choices. Banning 1 trait line is not like banning a full class. When I look at esl, I don’t only see the same class stacking but also the same builds. That’s why people tend to use what works better and just copy/paste builds. The paradox is that a class like thief where there is not truly a build that shines over another, is the one I’ve seen played in many different ways, from d/p to s/d and staff.
Then people above sayong d/d without arcana don’t work, well that is the point, if my team want to avoid d/d ele, it might choose to ban arcana. Eles go play some different build and ban what can give you more troubles when not playing d/d arcana.
Also players that want to play at higher lvl should be able to play everything and evety build.
I know moba are a different thing but you don’t even play ranked if you only know how to play 1 champion right?
In the end my idea might be not as good, but it’s not fun either to see every freaking class play the same exact copied build.

And also running from point to point for 10 mins continuosly is so fun and so much better than actually fight sometimes vs other players right? Fighting and killing someone is so boring, I prefer running and +1 cos that is the role Anet and thief haters decided for me.
I wonder if my role is +1 then other classes must have their skills locked when they are +1, cos ppl keep saying I am the +1, so I guess is not something everyone does, right? Right?
Staff dmg is already very strong. If you want even more dmg plus endurance back, you must lose something.
Staff alteady offer great aoe dmg, great evasion uptime and great blind uptime, having also reliable condition removal, no way I would choose any other weapon set.
