Warrior is arguably the most forgiving of the classes which makes it arguably the simplest to play. Likewise, while there is a huge number of options (weapons) to take, there are relatively few skills you have.

The most challenging class to play is probably the engineer in terms of skill cap which is a direct result of having so many skills (kits replace weapons with 5 skills PLUS a toolbelt skill). It is absolutely insane in terms of the number of options/buttons.

Other challenging classes are Ele (though you tend to stay in one attunement longer so while you have lots of potential skills, you are not swapping as fast) and thief.

For pure challenge, the engie is probably the best. For getting to know a new game, the warrior is the simplest/most forgiving.

True Story.
I played 4-Kit engi since Beta. Its most of the time a very reactionary class because youre always busy managing CDs, heals and the micromanagement of alot skills, combo rotations, blocks, combo effects im also certain to get the most of it out, you have to invest in special hardware, the razer naga.

After you mastered that, everything else feels booring, even ele.

Sadly Warrior is just too effective in everything without much effort.

I dont know whats more funny, the OPs post or the replies.
But i honour your honesty CounterCookie so i will give you some hints.

1. if you want to dominate 1vsX situations without getting in trouble dont listen to any of this posts above.

2. think about what are the most important things in WvW roaming.
Mobility >>>> Survivalbility > Damage > CC. Build for it, trait for it, equip for it.

3. There are just 2 vaible runesets, what just 2? Jes exactly just 2. Everything else what other people might suggest is false.

If you do everything right you can roam all day, killing tons of people and surviving everything. There might be better windmill facetank builds, but thats not what you need for roaming. For more information PM me, i abuse the hell out of it and dont want facing to much lamers like me

Its really annoying and an unfair advantage for other classes that wasnt there before.
My D/D ele and my engi effectivly lost a very important sigil. My GS/Hammer War doesnt care that much. Lucky me, meanwhile the warrior is my full ASC equipped main.

well it took more then a year to finally see QQ-Thread about turrets other then the QQ from engis because they suck so hard.

As i said in BWE1, replace the turrets please with something useful. No matter how hard you try to balance them, they will never find thier way into PvE/WvW. The only viable niche for turrets is camping a point in spvp. So they are either op in point fights or no one cares about them.

I dont get why devs still bring this stationary pet-crap into MMOs but i also dont get why they bring Invisible super high damage classes in MMOs either. Both things suck in every MMO and dont work balance wise.

If thieves cry that stealth is their only defense since they don’t have protection, then give them protection in return for reworking stealth. What a useless argument.

Its even more useless because thieves have the best mobility, teleporting skills, evades, evadeskills, blindspells and even stunbreakers without CD. Coupled with The shortest CD on elites which are abused like no tomorrov with lyssa runes.

Stealth is a gamekiller since release. Im the last one off app. 20 people that started together with gw2. Most of them left because of the broken stealth madness.

I mean yes, Celestial gets weaker, happens. Nerfs happen all the time in MMOs. If they were to buff Dire gear, and it’d become the best, you’d still have to switch gear.

I would hardly call it “invalidating time invested”. And mind you, I hate Ascended gear with a passion. But meh, not like I’d re-do any gear over this. So I’m a bit weaker after, so what? Happens.
I mean if you don’t enjoy playing the underdog every once in a while, not sure MMORPGs are the right genre, due to their ever-changing balance.

WTF Seriously?
Other games dont come around and complete destroy your progress of ~6-8 months just like that. Its not like a profession gets adjusted some %, this is a “get out of the game” type nerf accross a whole account, right in your face.

This makes playing gw2 pointless in every way. They just undo everything youve done in app 6 months in a blink of an eye. Lol

I’m going to disagree, with that being a good power build, generally speaking if the 3 man I run with see’s an engineer we focus it instantly the only saving grace that build has is the block which our guardian will remove instantly, then you are dead, plus without zerkers the damage is not good at all. If you want to fool yourself into thinking that power is good on an engineer be my guest, but it is not. You either spec conditions, or you run a sub par build, and that is unfortunately the way it is in wvw and spvp right now.

It has a free block every 15sec block, a 3 second block with a 16 sec CD. How do you remove toolkit block? (Should HT on the editor, my bad) on top of lots of AoE CC, and awesome burst, its a great power build.

Im also failing to see how the dmg isn’t good? 2k power, 50% crit, 96% crit dmg and 2900 armor is bad dmg i guess

i rofl hard at your “greate power build”
rename it to greate victim build please, because thats what it is.
No stability, no stunbreaker, no protection, orbs instead of runes, 15k HP
god this makes me sad, you dont play alot wvw right?

Dont know how bad your enemys are but vs me you wouldnt survive 1 cc chain with a build like that. I guess you dont fight against people that use conditions or cc.

This was a needed change in WvW, as everyone plays a berserker build. Maybe now there will be some diversity on the battlefield and we will see some more condition builds.

Condition builds are underrepresented in WvW, we need more of them.

I REALLY hope you give all players using any gear with + critdmg (berserker, valkyrie, cavalier, celestial, …have i forgot something?) the option to change stats. Otherwise i, and possibly a lot of other players, will be kittened.

Yes, you lose 10% of your crit damage. It’s the end of the world. Your char will fall over the dead the moment you press an attack.

I’m losing more than that. I’m assuming that Celestial Critdmg will get nerfed to the ground compared to berserker/valkyrie/cavalier. I spent an awful lot of time to grind for ascended Celestial stuff and won’t accept having to trash them.

/edit: Also Shatter builds lose up to 50% of their long term DPS because of Vigor Nerf so i might even reconsider to completely rebuild.

You forgot the amount of laurels it had cost espacially if slotted with WvW infusions.
As well as the huge amount of money, prestine fractal relics, guildmarks and time.

This patch is going to make almost everything ive done since the release of ascended gear obsolote. This is the first time since beta i consider to quit and if this goes live without refund im done with gw2.

I dont mind a 10% damage nerf, but this is going to far.

I have spent about 200-300 laurels in ascended-celestial gear.
Not the mention the armor pieces with costs unoly amount of gold and of course the infusions on all items.

So basicly all my WvW toons get build-killing nerfed because beserk gear is to strong in (lol) pve.

I dont care what other groups demand but in a pvp setting i for sure want the best equipment available espacially if you always fight outnumbered.

And after i obtained the equipment i calculated and slottet all WvW infusions (70-80 laurels for 1 set…) they just come around and kill my whole build like that.
The total cost of 1 set is 150! Laurels and this only if you got rings and accesiores by pve….

The problem is i spent over 200 laurels for celestials items,recipes and WvW-infusions.
I spent hours on the calculator for the best mix of offensive to defensive stats for my WvW-builds.

Nobody cares about PvE where no one cares if youre exotic or ascended.

I honestly think the only gear that will be deeply and critically affected by this is celestial gear. And because of the hard work and money put into exotic celestial and ascended celestial, it would make sense to be allowed to change it.

I’m just glad I didn’t make any, as I had considered making it for wvw.

Unlike me. I Spent over 200 laurels for ascended trinkets, recipes and the infusions for celestial items on all my characters. I demand a refund.

Also, your comments are false. Bad players on any class are easy kills. Stealth does not mean you are invincible. Thief and Memser class “may” seem easier to play, or more forgiving, but usually aren’t. I personally win more often against thieves than any other class. But I played one for a very long time. So most thieves are easy kill. It is really an learn to play issue. Thieves are very predictable, and are easiest to counter when they are they are in stealth. They are running away, reseting fight, or trying to stab you in the back.

Thief hits you and you use all your utilities, thief is going to reposition and try to finish you off.

Third hits you and you both use your utilities, thief hides to reset fight.

Thief hits you, you dish out a decent amount of damage and don’t burn utilities, thief most likely runs away.

srsly why do you even answer to that topic? Thats might be the most useless post ever.

Stealth ressing is the easiest way to kill the thief or mesmer and any half decent organized group will use that opportunity to kill the downed player and the reviver at the same time

You didnt got it? I talking about beeing outnumbered, secure stomps are the key to win that, but every time we got a player into dowstate and use stability/invul to stomp them some aoe stealt crap is ruining it.

My advice to you OP is stick to your ele or reroll warrior/thief. Mobility is the key.

you can’t reduce roaming to mobility alone. that would be running, not roaming.

and yea, I’ve found alot of warriors saying the same as you, how they beat every engie. and then they die and don’t say it anymore.

I have all classes leveled to 80 and my favourite to roam is engie, I’ve done it with most of them but nothing is more fun and rewarding for me than engie.

But he is a warrior, and we all know their true calling is to be the fastest runner they can be.

no im an engineer but unlike you i dont zerg i get zerged, every single fight so escaping is the key to success and engineers cant escape the zerg and the lack of stability makes them just to unreliable.

Jes engineer is stronger in 1v1 thats what you have to tell yourself all the time if you got zerged…..

Because 99% of the engineers i meet are just lootbags like SD builds that i destroy with 3 hits on my 3.4k armor tank.

And really ? youre talking about ccing a mesmer to death?
Against what type of scrubs are you playing? If engineer would be that awesome there would be alot more of them roaming around with success. The fact is in the last 3 months ive met 1 (one) engineer that i couldnt beat on my warrior but thats it i couldnt beat him so i walked away and he had no chance to catch me. It was a 3kit perplexity build that i also used on my engi but even if this build is considered oped it sucks at roaming.

Dont get me wrong, i played for more then 1 jear with engineer in smallscale/roaming and also a couple of months on my mesmer and jes both are if played the strongest professions in duels but roaming/smallscale isnt duelling someone at the windwill.

My advice to you OP is stick to your ele or reroll warrior/thief. Mobility is the key.

Isnt it enough to endure such horrible broken designed professions like thief and mesmer that enable even the baddest player to feel like a pro?

Why on earths name do they really have to have THE hardcounter against stomping?
2of3 enemys are already mesmers and thiefs and every time i bring a enemy into downstate and try to stomp him using all my “oh snap” buttons because im outnumbered, some fkkkkkk thief/mesmer shows up to aoe stealth him.

its totally pointless atm to play smallscale because of all the stealth-rezzing even the least-skilled bunch of scrubs is able to survive.

Stealth should not be the strongest hardcounter against stomping!

I mostly roamed with my engi since release, then mesmer, then ele and now warrior.

Engineer is by far the profession with the highest fun and skill-factor but sadly in the current state not that good for roaming for a couple of reasons. The main reason is that the most common roaming-builds out there are, if played correct, unkillable for you. Eles, warriors and thiefs can disengage at will and youre not going to catch them.
This also counts for mesmers. Mesmers are a real plaque right now because of the PU-Stealthabuse bandwagon but they also are unable to catch fleeing enemeys and omg are they boring to play.

Im testing right now a tanky, power based mobility build for wvw-solo – smallscale.
Its quite fun but in no ways that powerful like my Hammer/GS warrior.
My problem on engineer is that the strongest builds to fight with are 3kit but with 3 kits you miss rocketboots and/or elixir s.

So it depends on your definiton of Solo/small group roaming because mesmer and engis are very strong duel classes but weak at roaming. At least for my playstyle.

How to counter thief stealth

I will never understand the crying over stealth. Thieves are so squishy. Without stealth they would be free kills.

Whenever a thief attacks me on my Necro I just pop DS, which weakens him, bleeds him, hits him with damage… I can then insta fear him, or root him, or if he stealths again I can spam an AE damage attack.

Seriously, just having locust swarm up and auto attacking with dagger is enough to drop most thieves.

I am not saying thieves arent powerful, they can put out some great burst. But the thing is, they are so squishy. It takes a lot of skill to own people with a thief, it is a high risk high reward profession… not like a warrior, necro, or guardian.

Thats because thiefs have no access to evades, powerful blind skills, shadowsteps, teleports and stunbreakers on weapon-skills right?

Were not talking about the bad thiefs that get killed by your necro (lol @ that).
We are talking about the gamefun killing broken mechanic that complete ruins small-scall fighting in wvw.

The most annoying thing ist thiss stealth rez-madness which makes it almost impossible to win outnumbered situations no matter how bad the bunch of mesmers+thiefs play….

Stealth >>> mobility > condition meta focused
(it is why the P/D thief is upper top tier)

1. Thief (no kidding, right?), 3+ builds are viable
2. Mesmer (PU for even longer stealth uptime)
3. Engineer (not the zerg (Grenadier) build); roaming build is stealth elixirs and smoke field blast multiple times with rocket boots typically too
4. Warrior / “burst” mobility compensates for being ganged up on most of the time; far more common to see than Engineers because making a mistake doesn’t mean you are near immediately dead; still far less roaming Warriors then Thief/Mesmer
5-8. Elementalist, even with nerfed mobility but can counter condition meta now, specific mobility-heavy Ranger build with proper pet F2s, Guardian meditation burst build (can run to but not away), lastly, Necro (was near top pre-Dhuumfire nerf and heavy condition meta) but ends up being zerg fodder fairly often now and runs into the same issue as Engineer builds really

i roam almost every day a couple of hours and there are no such things like roaming stealth-engineers lol, there are almost none of them left anyway.

I mostly play WvW-smallscae so i cant speak for dungeon-stuff or spvp.

I main engi since beta and i also have geared up D/D Ele and cant belive what you guys are writing here. Engi is actual in his worst state since release, last patch killed again a couple of builds, this happens in almost every second patch.

Ele is far superior in sustain, healing, support, condicleanses, mobility and damage it isnt even funny. The traits are awesome and close to be op. The only thing where engis are better is condition builds and killing a half decent ele with a condition engineer takes ages if he doesnt run away.

Engineer has by far the most horrible stability Skill in gw2, the worst downstate ever they suffer like no ones else from retalliaton and confusion, this class doesnt forgive a mistake. You have to sacrifize utility slots for mobility and for weapon-swap.

But hey reroll engi, its an awesome class but sadly it became unviable for the game i play, you just cant have stability, cond-remove, mobility and damage in one build.
Jes you could run elixirs+rocket boots but then you would just have an ele without attunements.

We don’t need con removal, we already have options for it. What we actually need is stun-breaker with curing immobolized and crippled. Or at least trait to make or con removal skills as stun breakers.

A stunbreaker with stability would be more important.
Rocket boots , rifle 4 , legmods help against soft cc.

I will never forgive anet for destroying kit refinement, never ever.
This was the most awesome trait we had, it killed so much builds that i enjoyed.

Everyone with a little common sense knows that thiefs are ridicoulus broken in WvW.
perma-Stealth, highest mobility, blindspam, cond remove and the crazy damage that forces almost all classes except thiefs to stack toughness.

Got backstabbed for 12k today on my 3.4K Armor…
4 RL buddys stopped playing GW2 because of this madness.

Uhm jes im not talking about arranged 5vs5 facetank duels behind the mill.
It has to be viable for roaming, you could also replace any slot for 1-2 thiefs or just straight 5 thiefs but i dont play with thiefs and i dont group with them.

Do you really have success with 0 toughness and 16k hp? In roaming?
I hardly belive that. Thats 1 backstab chain, or 3 hits from my 3,4k Armor warrior.

@Topic ive never met an full glass-cannon engi that impressed me. Never ever.

I had a very decent powerbuild before rune of perplexity was released,
10,10,10,10,30 with legmods and powerwrecnh, but since incendiary powder moved up a tier it wont be that viable anymore.

engineers arent that good anymore for roaming, espiacially condition builds.
The reason are the constant hate in every patch and the powelevel of other classes right now. Almost all players run -condition duration items + food and take tons of condremoval with them. If you want to play cond-engi you probably want to run +40% food because engis con duration are very low.

You just have to make to much sacrifices right now.
1. Mobility? use a utility for rocket boots.
2. Damage? use a utility skill for bombs or nades.
3. Survivalbility? the last utility left can be used for either condremove, stability or stunbreaker.

So there is always something that you are missing and every time you die its exact for this reason.
