I want to develop my character. Things like map completion are of little interest to me.

If that’s the case then run the FOTM dungeon and gear yourself in ascended accessories. You’re the type of player ANet were trying to please when the threw together that dungeon.

I can play WvW, the only part of the game I still get some joy from, for a good 2 hours and it’ll be an extremely lucky day if I find a rare in my inventory at the end of it all. Is this intended ANet?

The funny part is when i go to salvage that rare and get 1 mithril ore. The jokes on me though unfortunately.

Remove diminishing returns for a start.

It’s the WORST mechanic you could possibly have in a MMO and ANet seem to be the only ones that don’t see it or just ignore it as it keeps certain player types playing their game longer.

Don’t give me it’s there to combat bots, that’s a joke.

The trick is to fill a bowl with m&ms and every time you kill a mob you eat one. Or put a bunch of different treats in little bags and grab a bag when you kill something, Ooo I got a good treat that time. Anet isn’t going to reward you, you have to do it yourself.

Haha that’s gold, nice one!

And for all the skills in Guild Wars 1, and there were tons of them, there are four or five PvP builds used for each profession at any given time. As the meta changed the builds changed, but you knew what people were going to use in general.

4-5 different builds for each profession? Man I wish there were that many in GW2!

The only reason people are still here is that it’s free.

i think the ‘free’ aspect doesn’t apply to a lot of players, i’ll gladly pay my 12.99 €/£/$ to get rid of culling ! and the only reason i play this game is because DAoC is dead (development and updates stopped yeaaars ago) and warhammer isn’t in much better condition. no other game with a decent player base offers a DAoCesque experience.

I think that’s why many of us are still around. We don’t have any other alternatives unfortunately. Hurry up TESO!

Why does ascended armor need better stats?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LOCO.1785

No. The grind they added wasn’t enough for the hardcores (read: it’s not infinite, thus the locusts are not satisfied, ever), thus they aren’t satisfied.
And then the mere existence of the higher tier added after launch is enough to make anyone worried about the treadmill, thus HP advocates aren’t satisfied either.
So basically by adding it they kitten off their loyal fans and didn’t even come close to giving the locusts they were catering to enough to make them stay.

QFT!

ANet tried to cater to everyone, which resulted in the poorly implemented ascended fiasco we have today. The people that bought the game pre-release under the impression this was a HP game got shafted. The people that didn’t do their research and bought the game expecting VP screamed loudly and ANet caved, ditching their pre-release philosophy. ANet scrambled to appease the VP crowd, but it’s not enough to satisfy the hardcores.

I wish ANet had the balls to stick with their original vision they had pre-release. Such a shame.

Is it really hard to add dueling?

Dueling is a great idea and I’m still scratching my head why it’s not in game already. Well not that surprised actually, since a lot of stuff ANet said would be in the game pre-release still isn’t in.

WvW has sufficient WPs. You can even create more by upgrading keeps.

WvW was never meant to be balanced, it’s war. ANet have stated this many times.

Badges are too easy to get as it is, I have stacks sitting in my bank with nothing interesting to spend them on.

You want damage stat bonuses for being outnumbered? Not gonna happen.

I’m not fond of the new daily system either though, but not much we can do about that now. It’s here to stay.

Nice post OP, agree with all your points.

WvW is the only thing I enjoy in this game and it’s definitely lacking in a lot of areas. This supposed WvW patch that was pushed back to March is going to be the decider for me, whether I persist with this game or not.

At the moment, I can’t play for longer than 20 mins and that’s pretty disappointing.

Guild wars 2 ruined all other mmo's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LOCO.1785

GW2 has a few things going for it:

• Nice graphics
• Decent combat
• No loot or node stealing

However, I think the biggest selling point is, it doesn’t have any real competition in regards to other MMOs. I’ve been looking, there’s nothing. I think once TESO is released, we’ll see how the population here fares.

Has it ruined other MMOs for me? Not in the slightest. Yeah it has some good points, but they’re also countered by some awful ones.

LOCO.1785

Right, my point is it was one line, in one interview. I think there was a second line somewhere. Dozens of things have been changed in this game since then. People keep saying Anet went against their manifesto. They didn’t. They said one thing in an interview, with one guy, and that in essence is the problem.

So what would you do. Anet had a game with exotics being easy to get. They saw people not going after lengendaries, the grind was too long. And you have a TON of people who came to this game who wouldn’t go for cosmetic gear unless there was SOME stat increase. You’d do what they did. You’d compromise.

You give people a single dungeon to grind. You’d keep the main damage to that dungeon, and you’d make the stat upgrade really really minor, which it is. It’s a compromise. It wasn’t their original idea. Big deal. But so many things have changed since this game was annouced.

They announced energy potions and then changed it so the game had no energy. They talked about energy potions endlessly, trying to sell us on the idea. Until they did away with energy. And no one said word one because they liked it.

This was a change they didn’t like and suddenly everyone is saying that they went against their manifesto. No. They didn’t. They changed a single aspect of the game to appeal to a certain type of player, while trying to affect everyone else as minimally as possible.

One line in an interview in an MMO, a game type that changes constantly isn’t a betrayal, or even going back on your word…because I’m sure when that was said that the dev who said it believed it could work. And then they found it wouldn’t.

The only thing going on here is that fans are seeing this as a precusor (pun intended) to a full blow gear grind, and it’s not. It’s Anet making a compromise to try to keep the larger number of players. It’s a sound business decision.

Well the problem is that one guy is the president of ANet, not just some dev. What he says carries weight. Reading that interview and others like it, plus the manifesto is what convinced me and I’m sure others to pre-purchase the game and support their original ideas they were touting, which attracted certain types of players ie. the ones looking for something different.

Changing such core features around once the game was released is deceiving and really if they didn’t know they could keep such promises, then they shouldn’t of over hyped the game with such claims. Revolutionary MMO? Not anymore now that they caved and compromised to imitate other MMOs that are already out there.

I honestly thought ANet would stick to their philosophy they kept preaching pre-release, I now know they just like most mainstream devs out there, willing to flip flop for an extra buck. That’s fine, their a business, but not the kind I’m willing to support. It also throws out another question, what will they flip flop on next to increase profits?

Why does ascended armor need better stats?

LOCO.1785

My theory is that Anet realized that the people who followed their initial ideals weren’t enough (probably in the 1.5mil?) and they wanted more players so they introduced traditional MMO features like gear treadmills, daily fetch quests and soon to come blizz-like rated team arenas.
In my opinion this isn’t a good plan for the long run.
By catering to everyone and noone at the same time you have a game that has something for everyone, but a lot everyone won’t like.
And those new players they have gotten by trading in the manifesto early I suspect are people who will jump ship at the next new MMO, so we’ll be left with a community made by “the loyals”… the problem is that to rely on loyals, you need to be loyal to them as well.

But ultimately GW2 hit the market in a moment where nobody has anything of quality ready with a product that is of high quality and developed for years; with no real competitors, they can do whatever they want.
It’ll be years before anything remotely comparable comes out, so they rule like that and we don’t have any option (unless you want to go play those ridiculous MMOs there are around).

By market standards this is “success”.

Jebus Falcon, you posted my exact sentiments.

Well said.

Sorry, with the gear grind comment I was referring to an article that first caught my interest

Quote from Mike O’Brien:
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”

Article: http://venturebeat.com/2012/05/21/guild-wars-2-interview-monetization/#s:guildwars2-16

It’s been so long, I forgot where I saw it originally. In any case, t’was all marketing hype. It read to me as horizontal progression. Sure there may be gear grind, but you were grinding for a better visual, not better stats.

In my view, gw2 is geartrademill

LOCO.1785

Of course GW2 has a gear treadmill, it’s where they went horribly wrong. They shouldn’t have tried to cater to everyone, they should’ve stuck to their original philosophy that they seemed so proud of pre-release. If they did that, at least they would have a strong core of players. Instead they decided to broaden their market, thus kitten off those that bought into the manifesto. Now we are left with a game that has no real direction. They lost their focus.

They could’ve quite easily introduced ascended gear, but without the extra stats. They may be minimal, but I ask why have those extra stats at all? They want you chasing that carrot, but that’s not what I and many bought the game for. It was marketed as not having a carrot, no more senseless grind. Unfortunately somewhere along the line they changed their mind.

So you gave up after only 20 attempts? I’m sorry but you really didn’t try that hard… why do you think Dusk costs 700+ gold… maybe because it costs about 700g in rare GS attempts on average to obtain.

If you had gone with rare GS’s instead it would have given you 267 attempts. The average seems to be closer to 500 attempts when using rares…

I’m not sure what to tell you except you haven’t even put in the average time and money yet, and not even close to having an unlucky streak yet.

Is this upcoming patch addressing the DC issues with the Fractals dungeon?

It should be renamed Frustrations of the Mist at this stage as it’s becoming the biggest pain in the kitten to actually complete. Usually either myself or someone else in the party will have their game crash pretty much screwing the whole run.

I don’t know who’s the genius that decided you couldn’t get back into the dungeon after such an incident, but obviously they didn’t think it through.

As it is now I log on, try to run fracs, get kitten off, then log back off.

why do people hate magic find?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LOCO.1785

LOCO.1785

It’s simple.

You use magic find gear, you’re effectiveness to the group drops. Thus making the group have to work harder because of your selfishness. You’re either doing less DPS or go down much easier, either way you’re making the group carry you more. Using magic find brings nothing at all positive to the group, which is why it’s frowned upon.

So go ahead and use it if you want, but don’t claim you’re just as effective with it, that’s a flat out lie.

I still have no idea why DR exists. At first I thought it was to combat bots, okay fair enough. But now bots are pretty much under control, but we still have DR…

So now legitimate players are being punished for reasons not specified. My only conclusion is it keeps people playing for longer and also encourages people to purchase gems.

Pretty lame tactic if you ask me.

Yes it is the best way.

If you’re going to substitute real money for XP, then you may as well make it free as XP is a lot easier to come by.

The problem was whole guilds transferring in my opinion and it’s a lot harder for a large guild to transfer now if they now need to pay RL cash.

Paid transfers were supposed to be there from the start, but since guesting was borked, they had to hold off until now.

I completely agree with you OP.

Legendaries should be rare and hard to obtain since they’re the best you can get in the game. ANet have always stated that they aren’t something that can be obtained in a short period of time, but over many months of gameplay.

Making it easier to obtain would just ruin their appeal, no one wants to see every Tom, Dick & Harry running around with one. To be honest, they seem common place already. Maybe we should be discussing how to make them even harder to obtain?

And the only reason most people are in WvW is because its one of the easiest and most efficient ways to farm Karma.
Oh and its full of underwater farming botts too..
And people camped in the jumping puzzle 24 hours a day to get there ‘’easy kills’’
The only Added danger in it is if one zerg is going clockwise round the map and the other is going anti clockwise and they accidently bump into each other.
Even then with the culling issue you dont see 90% of the people on either side so where is the excitement in that.??
