I love this so much it was my thread and i wanted anet to see it not pro thiefs make comments on it where i had to rationalize with HARD PROOF theres a human thief that stays stealth the whole time there are countless videos of thieves taking on whole zergs i pass judgement on the wrong views sir like yours which is bent in biased and unrational thinking. think about the other classes that have to deal with your bs and as previously stated i dont give a kitten what you think. who the kitten are you? another thief in the bucket. the thread has come to the doorstep of the thief capital pulled down its pants and grabbed its ankles so the thread is now useless.

So basically you’re saying you’re right and everyone else is wrong, end of discussion. Your hard proof is a one off situation where a bunch of bads did not know how to deal with a thief, when I myself can deal with a thief all on my own. I must be OP.

It’s you who in fact adds nothing constructive to the discussion. You call others biased and irrational, look in the mirror. You ask another poster who he is, well who the hell are you? His opinion is as relevant as anyone else here, but since you’ve given up in the discussion, we’ll just assume your claims have been proven wrong and your argument defeated.

Thanks for stopping by.

Two major issues ruining WvW

in WvW

Posted by: LOCO.1785

LOCO.1785

1. Siege equipment is too expensive. People hold back from using siege too often because of the high cost and high probability it will be destroyed or abandoned shortly thereafter.

2. Repairs should be free while in WvW. Major design flaw when you lose more money in WvW than you gain.

These are just two of the major issues with WvW as is. If ArenaNet ever wants this game to reach it’s potential they need to fix these issues asap.

This is not major issues.

I couldn’t agree more. These aren’t issues at all to be honest.

Now culling… That’s a friggen issue.

Everytime I face a thief, I think:

Is the damage to high?

Maybe. The damage alone seems fine to me, but taking all other abilities into account it seems to high. But what I realy hate is the fact, how easy a thief can achieve high damage. Just spam one ability without thinking about cooldowns. Or do moderate damage with a gap closer (hs) is a no brainer.

Is the mobility to high?

Slighly. Yes thief is squishy and needs abilites to get away, but the mobility with shortbow is not funny anymore. If the mobility would be limited on a horizontal plane it would be fine, but jumping up walls, ledges is lame.

Is the stealth ok?

Absolutely not. Yes thief is an assasin and needs stealth to set up his ambush. This is fine for me. But the fact that a thief can pop stealth almost everytime he wants is just stupid. Stealth is not a tactical tool anymore, but a spamable ability. Coupled with the fact, that thieves can heal and drop condition while in stealth is op. And to all thief players out there who think this is perfectly fine: Ask your self, what fun it is to play against a class you cannot see most of the time. I guess if other classes could do this you would whine a lot on the forums. I really can’t remember such a stupid implementation of stealth in any mmorpg game I played ( and I played alot, starting with DAOC beta). For me thief is the most stupid class design in the game.

It’s funny how opinions vary isn’t it?

Every time I face a thief, I think:

Is the damage too high?

No, it’s just right. The main meta I come across is the gimmicky glass cannon/burst build. They sacrifice all their defense to hit you with that one burst. Most people expect this when facing thieves, it’s also one reason I always carry a stun break (bulls rush+frenzy+100 blades combo is the other reason). I never lose to this fotm cookie cutter build, the result is usually a dead thief or if they get lucky they escape my grasp and run for their life. If they miss their burst, they’re toast, plain & simple.

Is the mobility too high?

Nope. Thief is squishy and needs abilites to get away. Jumping up walls, ledges is lame if it were possible and it sounds like you haven’t had much experience using this yourself. You can only get to elevated areas that your toon is capable of running up ie. you can’t run up walls.

Is the stealth ok?

Absolutely. It’s the thieves main source of offense/defense. Without stealth, thieves are sitting targets. They can trait for dodging, but that will only get you so far and would cut down even more on viable builds. Thieves already have the 3 sec revealed debuff after stealthing, so it’s not something they can keep spamming straight away. They’re also not unkillable gods when they enter stealth, they’re still just as weak as when they’re unstealthed, you just cannot see them. Either spam the area with AoE or do what I do and auto attack where you think they are, I can tell I’m hitting the thief when my auto attack combo registers. It really is not rocket science… If a thief pops shadow refuge, guess where you will find him, that’s right within the refuge radius. If a thief hits you with C&D it’s a safe bet he will also go for a backstab.

Culling is an issue currently, but this is no cause to nerf the thief unjustly.

In most cases, these complaints are just L2P issues. Sorry if that hurts anyones egos, but that’s what it comes down to.

It’s funny how people exaggerate on these forums. If I were to believe some people that post here, 90% of toons running around in WvW are perma-stealth thieves.

All I play is WvW and professions are actually quite balanced from my experience. Warriors, guardians and eles are the most common class I run into. Then thieves, mesmers and rangers would be the next popular tier, followed by the slightly neglected necros and engis classes.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say people love to exaggerate to try and make their opinions more relevant. Crazy I know.

Shadow refuge doesn’t grant invulnerability.

If you see a thief trying to rez using shadow refuge, simply auto attack or AoE where the downed player is. Thieves are squishy, they’re not going to sit there copping those hits.

wouldn’t surprise me if they nerf Ele and allow thieves to stay where they are… I don’t see ele spamming dragon’s tooth or meteor repeatedly for 6 – 8k damage cluster bombs. Or piercing rifle shot on warriors who can hit upwards of 20k. Saddest part is the nerf to AoE is all because of sPvP. “it’s to powerful” Bleh. 5 Target limit is already sad enough to even be called an AoE…. Should be called a “zerg back scratcher”

LOL

Ele is the only class able to handle multiple ppl with ease. Best AoE, highest mobility, great CC, and can heal up like crazy. Zerg back scratcher? Don’t make me laugh. They’re easily the strongest class in WvW right now.

I am not making excuses. I really don’t care if we’re losing. Just like you are sick of excuses, I am sick of people from your server pretending you’re “above” the “underhanded tactics” from other servers. So let me flip your question back at you, why would Drgn resort to spying on us?

Edit: I also wouldn’t have said anything if you weren’t being so self-righteous, because we actually don’t care that much either.

All I did was point out the obvious of FA not needing to resort to such tactics and also that I’ve personally never come across any these exploits being used by FA. If you took offense to that, I don’t know what to say.

As for an answer to your question:

As a regular commander in Drgn, I can tell you that if we have people spying on your mumble it’s for their own humor, not for tactical purposes. Or possibly for our humor. I’ve heard people talk about this, but we haven’t had active spies since Pending was around. Even then, it was because Pending enjoyed the social aspect of the game… recruiting/spying/guild amalgamation.

For the past 2 weeks

It has been really annoying how often “spy/sabotage” occasions happen when Fort Aspenwood [BT] guild approach an objective.

IE buying Keep upgrades to burn supply, throwing catapult build sites on top of our mortar to prevent countering the trebuchets taking our wall down, ram build sites on the walls that are about to go down from trebbing, building rams at the supply depot, etc

Sabotage/spy is the decision of few/many and the actions of 1.

It is very interesting how we see this behavior when facing FA so frequently, most other matches have not had this much interaction to assist a server in capturing objectives.

Higher population, oceanic coverage, and relies on spy/sabotage to take big objectives

I would love to hear from Dragonbrand to find if this is isolated to our server

Why would FA bother doing any of those things you describe? It’s not like doing any of that would have a difference in the score, FA are miles ahead.

I’ve never once ever seen anyone from FA exploiting or using any lame tactics that you describe, otherwise I would report them myself.

Sounds like you’re into conspiracy theories to be honest. Do you believe the moon landing was fake too?

All I do is WvW now that I hit 80. I find everything else too tedious, but that’s just me.

I have a guardian sitting on lvl 70 that I just can’t bring myself to finish leveling. The personal story is so boring and bland, I’ve already experienced all the open world events on my main, so doing those again doesn’t appeal to me. Dungeons I hit up every so often mainly to complete my monthly or FOTM if I need gold.

Frankly the OP has a point. If I didn’t have WvW (which needs massive improvements to keep people interested), I wouldn’t be playing either. Hell, if there was an alternative to GW2 at all, I wouldn’t be here. At the moment it’s something to play until TESO launches.

Dynamic events really fell flat, but they have so much potential. I believe we already have the foundation there, ANet just need to work on making them epic (huge invasions or difficult boss type mobs tearing up the place, etc), occur at random times in random places and make them actually effect the world like they said they would.

You’re not judging ESO a little early on, are you? It seems people are expecting a game like Oblivion or Skyrim, but online with tons of people. This is not what they’re doing. This is not something they can do.

It is an MMO. To make such a series into an MMO, they will have to sacrifice many things. You’ll have the story, you’ll have some Elder Scrolls spice, but you won’t have Skyrim.

This isn’t speculation, this has been brought up many times in news releases. They just recently realized the game would be nice with an optional first person view. I want the game to do well, don’t get me wrong, but it is not going to be what you described.

Also, if you feel GW2 forced you down a linear leveling path, I would find it hard to believe you have ever played another MMO.

I don’t think many are expecting Skyrim Online. For me personally, I’ve checked out the videos, read up on the features and followed the lore since Morrowind. It’s the first real competitor to be released since GW2 launched and I’m eagerly waiting to try it out.

It’s being developed by a different studio that did the single player games though, so I’m not getting my hopes up too high. I’ve heard a few things that worry me, like not being able to venture into other fractions areas unless you’re part of that fraction. But hey, it’s definitely worth a look!

Yes.

Also, the game was never advertised to be low-grind. It simply advertised against the kind of grind that’s so prevalent in other MMORPGs, such as MapleStory. Do you really think ascended is worth so little that you’re supposed to get it on the same level as exotics? Because it really isn’t that hard. That sounds like entitlement to me rather than justice.

No, it was advertised as having no grind.

Mike O’Brien’s now infamous quote:
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games – we leave the grind to other MMOs.

Sounds great doesn’t it, if only that was the reality today.

only 5g as a level 80? That’s how much you get from a 10 minute CoF path 1 run.

Right… Did 5 CoF runs in 2 days and got 1 rare and the rest blues and whites and got less than a gold for my effort. Got 50 silver 10 karma bottles for the monthly so it wasn’t all bad.

When I used to run dungeons, it wasn’t for the loot, because the loot was always terrible. I’d be lucky to finish with a single rare, even luckier for that rare to give me an ecto.

The last 2 days I’ve played WvW for up to 2 hours each session. Not a single rare dropped. Am I doing something wrong? Am I expected to run WvW with MF?

The only profitable dungeon I found was fractals, but I’m so sick of running that, I’ve given up making gold in this game. Play how you like? Sure, but don’t expect to reap any rewards.

Unfortunately Energumenus hit the nail on the head:

If your main focus is “farming”, achieving wealth through drops, being showered endlessly with meaningful loot then I’d suggest staying away from any game with a cash shop that allows the purchasing of in-game currency. (like GW2) As stated many, MANY times, this is the sole reason for the lack of meaningful loot and worthwhile drops in this game. It is also the reason you’re constantly seeing drops and gold/item acquisition being tuned and in most cases “nerfed.” It won’t change so long as they offer a means of exchanging gems for gold so I wouldn’t hold your breath.

The “compromise” they gave is complete bullkitten. Instead of grinding kittenty PvE dungeons ad nauseam, they give you the option to grind kittenty solo PvE ad nauseam. One bad option for another. Would you like to be reamed with a spoon or fork?

Ascended items should be completely removed until ANet can actually implement a good solution — e.g. one that doesn’t impact WvW.

At least EasymodeX sees it.

The compromise they gave (ironically to please another vocal minority) was a rushed out, unimaginative one, which they even admitted. There’s no arguing this, ANet know they screwed up. They made it worse imo by trying to tells us it was always planned, when their pre-release marketing hype and not having it included at launch paint a different story. They sold out on their original idea of HP and chasing cosmetics, which personally is what drew my attention to the game in the first place.

They could fix this mess they’ve created by removing ascended stats, thus not having this extra tier of gear effect WvW.
