i still never see anything else on my death breakdown,
even playing my glasscannons it’ll still be something like 13k bleed, 8k burning, 4k poison.
i’ve not seen this, its still the usual meta clones running around,
i see afew rangers but nowhere near what the OP is saying lol
though i probably see more thieves than anything recently
I dont get it, what’s wrong with balance right now?
play a ranger and fight an engi or warrior, come back with your results
I think the combat abilities are just too complex to ever balance.
Everything must be balanced (and tested??!!) against every possible combination of classes (in each of their trait lines), in every combination of classes in a battle, to make sure that each situation is totally balanced.
Perhaps they should have started with much “simpler” classes, and slowly worked up adding possibilities for a class, balancing as they went.
Anyone who says you can balanced the complex class mechanics they have now does not really understand how you would go about it, and how much time it would take.
in GW1 you could choose to merge 2 classes together and pick any skill and attributes from each, there were soooooo many more combinations than in GW2 and yet Anet managed to make it one of the most balanced MMOs i’ve ever played.
so when you talk about the 3-4 weapons that each class can wield and say “well its complex, they’ll never be able to balance it!” i just have to say BS.
we all know what is OP and we all know what needs buffing,
all we need to decide is on the numbers, but anet aren’t even trying.
also @Xae i think you might have a point there, there are so many skills and combinations that you could always come up with a counter to the meta.

shaving was useless anyway,
seeing anet tickle hambow for 8 months with unnoticeable nerfs was just embarrassing.
finally they’ve thought “ah screw it” and given up completely.
Always though that MF only affect drop from trash.
true for pve, but our chests are supposed to simulate mobs (like a skale chest is supposed to simulate the loot a skale would drop)
also i think i remember them saying that MF will effect the loot,
but they didn’t say if consumables like MF boosters will increase it.
i think the duration is perfect, if you leave 3 games whether by choice or because you decided to play with unplayable lag then you should be penalized, and 3 days is about right.
if you abandoned the match to go shopping (after also leaving 2 other matches) then don’t complain about dishonourable, you’ve earned it.
i think the balance needs adjusting, a glasscannon warrior can stay in the fight way longer than they should be able to,
and on the flip side a tankier warrior can deal way more damage than they should be doing.
if you want damage, you should be squishy,
if you want to be tanky you should deal low damage.
i play with this turret build , its ridiculously easy, just set up your turrets around the point (put flame near the middle for the blind aoe) and then just spam your weapon skills and turret overcharges.
i’m not calling it overpowered because it is “the most super ultimate build ever” but because it is so easy that a monkey could play it and it is really effective.
imho a minimal skill, high reward build is far more OP than a build that requires alot of skill for a slightly higher reward.
also i took Deployable Turrets instead of Accelerant-Packed Turrets but thats just preference, i like being able to put the turrets somewhere high, like on the statues at Keep in FoN
(edited by Liewec.2896)
if you play engi alot then you can master a build with several kits,
but if you don’t play engi alot then a turret build is about as OP as it gets.
just spam your weapon skills and turret overheat skills and watch things melt.
i think they’ve given up tbh,
this isn’t the same Anet that made GW1 such a great and balanced game.
only one noticeable balance update in the past 8 months…ridiculous.
0 communication from them now too, they’ve given up completely.
The old PvP system rewarded us with living story items…
An example includes the Fused gauntlets.
the old system was far more rewarding. period.
this new system is Anet chopping our legs off and then offering us crutches that we need to grind for screw by screw.
pvp perspective:
1. turret engi. even more ridiculous than hambow.
2. warrior, condi specs or hammer specs. low risk / high reward
3. PW thief. stun, evade, huge damage, spammable.
also lol at OPs satire which has turned into an actual thread of people sharing their opinions, also necros are nowhere near the top of my list, MMs might be somewhere up there but playing a class who has decent AoE MMs are no issue, and i never have trouble with lich, just strafe.
turret engis are the new low risk / high reward build imho, even more-so than hambow,
switch your whole team to turrets and bathe in the tears of the hambows!
honestly its the easiest build to play in the game so its the best way to deal with hambows, fight a noob build with an even more noobish build!
Other examples:
LS track
Fractal track
Soloqueue track
Teamqueue track
Weekly track
Monthly track (with big final reward)
and repeatable levelling track (tomes of knowledge each step)
black lion track (boosters, bank access etc with a key at the end)
dye track?
I’m starting to wonder, the people that still target “perma-stealth”, are they new to game, new to pvp content, or have seen the multitude of other threads and still want their voices to be heard?
they play WvW, i’m a pvper and agree that stealth is useless for conquest since it means your neither capping a point or doing any damage.
but in wvw it can be pretty godly and allows a thief to chip away at the enemy, or completely heal to full without any worry, even bypass through an entire zerg, or stay inside a base to recap it when the enemy zerg leaves..
while i agree thieves have some extremely noobish specs, (PW, HS, S/D)
i still think warriors and engis have far cheaper specs.
that being said, afew days ago on my thief i hit someone for 9k with pistolwhip, that is just insane for a spammable skill that roots them and makes me evade damage.
it would make sense that it will tie in with the next season of living world so whatever living world reward is offered we will have a track to earn it (obviously the trach should vanish when the liing story ends that offers the rewards in pve)
they need to break everything in half to balance, in pvp if you spec Shadow Arts you’ll be laughed out of the match, but i hear it is potent in wvw.
so balancing becomes difficult without a split since it is both utterly useless in one game mode and godly in another.
“if you buy 10,000 gems we’ll reactivate 8v8 hotjoin” i’d hand over my money instantly.
They have been hinting things they will develop for almost 2 years now. Look at how many things they gave us and then thing about the value of these “hints”.
^ this, if you really need them to then they might give you the spiel of “very exciting stuff that is coming soon!”, pretty much the same regurgitated banter they’ve coasted on for nearly 2 years without actually releasing much content or many noticeable balance updates.
you “can” be good in pvp as an ele,
but you need to put alot more skill and practice into it to get the same results as a class like engi or warrior.
if you’re serious about sticking with ele then you can be great with practice,
but there are far easier classes that can get the job done just as well.
Yeah but 8vs8 was a pure zerg festival and u had always outnumbered problem + zerg problem.
i dont wanna sidetrack this from the OPs question about courtyard being in hotjoin,
but i found that one team having a player or 2 less wasn’t an issue in 8v8 since if you have 6 people there will atleast be afew who could carry the others, but when you’re missing 2 people in 5v5 you’re practically missing half the team and the game becomes much more onesided than a 5v6 or 6v8.
on the flip side (and this relates to the OPs point) if they did bring back 8v8 and added courtyard to the hotjoin rotation that would be pretty bad, the map is too small, even 5v5s on that map are just a spamfest of AoEs, it’s best suited for a max of 3v3
hotjoin does’nt suit 5v5, since 5v5 puts greater burden on each person in the team and almost always the eams will be uneven.
that said, an uneven 2v3 deathmatch would be even worse than a 2v3 conquest,
since atleast in conquest you can try to run between points and cap, who knows, maybe the 2 people are quicker travelling than the 3, but deathmatch the 3 can just roll around killing.
they NEED to bring 8v8 hotjoin back, removing it has destroyed hotjoin.
this isn’t a warrior exclusive issue, imho they need to make a pass over all healing skills since every class will have only one (or if they’re lucky 2!) healing skills that anyone will use.
engis for example will never use something other than turret because of its high healing(which is aoe), condi clear and low(ish) cooldown.
also, just an observation from a GW1 player, Healing Signet and Mending need their names reversing.
since mending was the passive HoT in GW1.
Sick Em! is always handy for rangers, especially BM rangers, my pet cat crit a thief for 6k yesterday lol
they should just turn off the capture nodes and turn every map into deathmatch.
its natural, in real life if you go to the most run down, chanti neighbourhood you know where the air is dirty, windows are smashed and litter and burnt-out cars fill the streets do you expect the people who live there to be happy?
this is the pvp of GW2, while WvW and PVE are the Newyork cities and the Londons, with their bountiful wealth and champaign with their meals.
in pvp we have no wealth and we eat our stale bread and wash it down with a puddle of water.
for me the worst thing is that the game mechanics and combat system are THE BEST of any mmo out there at the moment,
so no matter how much time and commitment other games devs put in to their pvp it’ll just feel clunky and outdated.
its the kobayashi maru… an unwinnable scenario…
on one hand you have the worst pvp experience of any MMO but with unparalleled gameplay mechanics.
and on the other hand you have game devs who actually care about pvp and aim to give you a great experience but the game mechanics feel clunky and outdated.

I read a few places that gear doesnt matter in pvp.
But randomly, ill come accross like one dude dropping my whole team, so I run in to help with a sealth>steal>backstab to open, and their hp doesnt even nudge. Then they turn, lock on, and basicaly 2 swings i drop to the floor. Is that really all just builds? I cant imagine a build that gives that much def along with that much damage
first part is semi true, you get the armour values of boots/legs and chest armour (boosted to lv 80 values), so don’t go running around topless and you’ll be fine!
second part is sadly yep, all build.
i wouldn’t be surprised it it was a hambow warrior since they can quite easily drop a thief in a couple of hits and maintain alot of passive defense (and a “godmode” button which stops all damage)
while the gemstore dragon is better than the rank 80 one, i still think the GW1 version was much better, i’m not sure why they abandoned the see-through finishers after Shark.
phoenix is just lazy and dragon isn’t as good as shark, bear, wolf or dolyak.
hmm power dual swords vs axe could be tough, as power weapons go i think axe trumps sword, i play ALOT of axezerker in pvp and i find the biggest weakness is kiting, but that won’t really work for a sword warrior :P
really need this, maybe then we’ll bother taking Zephyr’s Speed since currently it’ll be over before your slooooow dam pet reaches the target.
a pet speed increase trait just isn’t worth taking compared to the other things in the tree.
make it default NAOW ANET!
lich form, flesh golem, a spare set of air/fire sigil weapons in your backpack,
life blast spam, minions.
or just call over a warrior/thief to look in the direction of the ele and make him die.
tbh diamond skin is a gimmick, his whole spec is a troll spec made for hunting people who put everything they have into condition damage, ofcourse he’s going to be tough for you, but he’s a piece of cake for everyone else, so leave him to your allies while you can get back to fear spamming.
no idea on skills, but Dolyak would make a fun tank pet
Grubs would make a nice debuff pet spitting aoe weakness/poison etc.
and something funny like a chicken or rabbit would be a fun dps pet.
It’s a DOT which rarely exceeds 3k dmg as only a fool would not cleanse burning.
a class like guardian can apply burning every 3 hits.
engi’s apply a 6 second burn every 10 seconds.
a class like warrior can apply burning with EVERY SINGLE AUTO ATTACK.
so which class are you playing that has condi-removal on a 1 second cooldown?
i think if someone is sacrificing other aspects to spec for -condition duration,
and you’re not sacrificing anything for +condition duration then they should reap the rewards.
When I agree that some condi burst is really ridicle, getting over 30 pings means you had almost 30 seconds to dispel or do something.
30 seconds seems about right for a condi-removal cooldown, also note that “hits” refers to each stack of bleed, so even something like Precise Strikes which only causes a 3 second bleed will count as a hit,
so a warrior can potentially get 3 “hits” of bleed from every auto attack.
so while 64 hits may seem like it would take a long time, it doesn’t account for extremely short duration bleeds like the 12 stacks applied by Flurry (which with Precise Strikes and Earth sigil procs can wrack easily 18+ stacks of bleed all counting as “hits”, that skill alone could cause a maximum of 25 stacks if you have some otherworldly godlike luck!)
(edited by Liewec.2896)
They gotta make money somehow dudes, don’t be petty.
petty?
thousands of games played to earn the final pvp end game, the dragon finisher.
and then they release a dragon finisher for 1 hours work at minimum wage?
people joked months ago that Anet would release a dragon finisher in the gemstore,
Anet have delivered the punchline.
i think most of the ranger hate comes from the elitist scene,
spirit ranger is the only build seen as viable, and its a totally cheese build.
personally i have fun on ranger, with the right BM build you can do some serious damage.
and with the right marksman build you can spam 3k crits from 1500 away.
You’re right. If only there were certain abilities in the game that would remove conditions before they did any damage.
Oh well.
oh you’re on about the 1-2 long cooldown condition removals you’ll have on your bar?
yep that’ll deal with the conditions that are getting applied by every auto attack.
use a condi removal and you’ll have 10 stacks of bleeding back in seconds.
and most condi removals won’t remove all conditions so you better hope it removes the bleeds since you’ll get burning and poison back instantly, atleast the bleeds take afew seconds to stack up.
direct damage can be mitigated through armour toughness and protection if the sigil was going to hit you for 2k you can mitigate it way down.
if burning is going to deal 2k damage, it is going to deal 2k damage.
when was the last time you saw air/fire runes in your death breakdown list? (with the exception of lich cheese) probably never because the list is too dam crammed with conditions.
when we’re taking condition damage that is double/triple our health, 1-2k direct damage is unnoticeable.
that is the difference between power sigils and condi filth.
(edited by Liewec.2896)
lucky! i’d find it refreshing to get killed by something other than condi filth for a change…
stack all the toughness, protection and damage mitigation you want, condition damage cannot be mitigated…
(edited by Liewec.2896)
with those new scores i could see what we already have, the mindless zerglings at middle wracking up points from kills, objective defender/denier/bunker.
while the guy standing alone at far point might get the odd bunker/denier every once in a while.
generally he’ll be right at the bottom of the score boards, with the mindless zerglings facerolling at middle getting greater rewards.
honestly i can’t think of a system that won’t award zerglings more than the guy carrying them.
honestly it all sounds very complex,
it’d be so much easier to simply make skyhammer like courtyard,
remove it from hotjoin and tournament but allow people to make customs arenas.
you would be branded heroes for finally taking it out of rotations.
i love staff, i even play glass staff on occasion in pvp, getting a meteorshower+lava font off on a bunch of unsuspecting enemies is HILARIOUS,
but the moment someone looks at you, you’re dead :P
but for for the less gimmicky ultimate burst it is probably an ele popping a whole bar of arcane skills while multiple skills land at the same time. (phoenix, flame tooth etc)
not very practical thoughClearly you’ve never seen anyone playing burst ele. It’s very practical and really only requires quick use of skills.
yeah i meant to get everything to hit, like dragon tooth+phoenix etc, against anyone with half a brain they will move out of dragon tooth, and now they’re moving it will be harder to land phoenix “there and back again” damage
stealth?!
of all the ridiculousness in pvp, you chose to complain about stealth?
the thing where the stealther is neither capping the point or dealing any damage…
hoping its a troll thread XD
could backfire, you could have all maps flagged as “i want to play” but when you get in the map its full of people with builds catered to that particular map.
for instance, anyone with every map flagged for play would have an even worse time on skyhammer than they already do now, since fewer players and more trolls will be there.
i know i’d only ever play temple and foefire on my eagle eye ranger and spend all evening sniping XD
also this:
Skyhammer does not have any more uneven matches than other maps last time we checked.
is simply false.
in hotjoin the majority of us will leave the server if skyhammer comes up.
in ranked matches we are forced to simply AFK because we can’t leave.
though i appreciate actually seeing a dev mention skyhammer,
before now i always assumed you just ignored the mountains of negative critisicm.
