i’ve been playing a more in your face zerker stoneheart-conjurer in pvp since the trait was released, i actually posted about the potential of stoneheart conjurers before the patch :D
its great fun isn’t lt?
completely transforms the ele into a heavy armour melee class (in my case with lightning hammer)
running after a hammer warrior is hilarious as he runs away from the little ele XD
edit: @jski scepter/focus is my choice for stoneheart conjurer too, you can keep the 250 toughness from Rock Barrier while you’re using conjured weapons, making you even tougher to take down,
plus the focus gives you a reflect and an invulnerable which you can use in between conjure summons/pickups :)

the fact that your said “in pvp” almost made me fall off my chair laughing,
as a rank 65 who rarely does anything other than pvp i am sick of conditions being the only thing that ever shows on the death breakdown, 15k bleed, 15k burning, 5k poison etc…
you could make an argument for pve or WvW,
but conditions are way too spammable in pvp already, and you want them buffed?
i dont even….
Why don’t they have both 8v8 and 5v5…so that those who like 8v8 and those who like 5v5 can play whichever they want.
it was like that, and everything worked fine, until they decided to break it.
lack of balance,
lack of game modes,
lack of devs,
shoddy matchmaking,
empty one-sided matches,
skyhammer.

everyone says thief, but imho its warrior with “warrior’s sprint” greatsword and a sword as alt weapon.
because the devs honestly dont give a “duck”.
they’ll simply merge this thread with the other 700 skyhammer related posts and pretend that they’re doing a good job.
i earned all my rank point (r51 currently) entirely through hotjoins. i prefer hotjoin. no pressure to all other modes.
same, rank 63 atm, almost entirely hotjoin,
(i’ve played less than 20 tournaments cba with the metafest there!)
really sucks that they robbed us of 8v8.
tbh if you want a challenge as melee play guardian or thief,
warrior is the easiest profession of all 8 to play.
they have a very low skill arc but also probably the lowest skill ceiling of all classes,
played 24/7 you can do more by mastering other classes.
general rule of thumb:
a bad warrior will beat a good [enter other class].
an excellent [enter other class] will beat an excellent warrior.

high damage, high survival, loads of condi clears, lots of might stacking, easy to play.
before turret engi was buffed Hambow had the highest skill:effectiveness ratio imho.
low skill requirement, high reward.
i dunno, some skills could be pretty handy,
sylvari and humans get long duration immobilze

human: Binding Roots
norn and human get elites with nice damage
Norn: Charge
Human: Hounds of Balthazar
as a pvper its mostly asuras for the size and harder to spot telegraphs.

aaah i see. its been a while since i played a greatsword zerker in hotjoin.
i remember the last time i did that, i would just lay down a hundred blades and somehow the thieves would just dodge right into the meat blender.
after quite a bit of testing i managed to make a build with (what i believe to be) the most damage you can do with greatsword
its fully zerker but worth having a play in hotjoin for the mindless fun XD
here’s my build, all i ever use are the weapon skills and bolas, never the signets, (yep its totally faceroll) and i only swap weapons to travel and get out of a fight if i need to, this build can run away like a champ! XD

i’ve been saying this since they randomly removed 8v8.
before then people who wanted 5v5 could do 5v5, people who wanted 8v8 could do 8v8,
IT WORKED. so why did they go and screw it up?
its impossible to have a decent match in hotjoin 5v5 its always one-sided and most of the time it’s half empty.
yes there was often a zerg at the middle, but the game was still balanced by the 1-2 people on each team focusing on objectives, you’d have alot more 400v500 ends than in 5v5 where the small number of players makes it impossible to carry, and one side will always start to steamroll around the map.
GIVE US OUR 8v8 BACK
edit: before anyone comes in saying “just go tournaments lolz”, some of us don’t want to play as/against meta clones, some of us want the fun of playing as/against more interesting builds, and that is the role that hotjoin fills, theres always afew meta clones, but you’ll find a wider variety of builds than the meta-fest of tournaments.

Nope.
It’s called “stat padding” and in the end it’s meaningless. They will be high rank and getting stomped out by average players. If they are doing it to farm loots… well they are wasting a HUGE amount of time that could be spend elsewhere on a far more efficient farm.
indeed that they’re wasting their time farming, and its sad that these few farmers are the reason anet claim for the hotjoin daily progress cap that punishes us all >_<

warriors still play Hambow of S/S condi-cancer
ele still play D/D S/D burst builds
guardians still play bunker
engi still spam condis, bunker or decap
mesmers still spam phantasms and stealth
thieves still spam PW/FS/HS
rangers are still spirits or freekill
so what was this huge meta shift?
the only change to the meta i see is turret reaction times were buffed adding another NPC spam build.
the majority of the “changes” were anets usual “shaving” BS which changes nothing, especially at the ridiculously slow rate that they put the patches out.

WvW is the best open world PVP you could want.
for people interesting in open world pvp then WvW is a pot of gold.
the only difference between WvW and the open-world pvp from other games is that you can’t gank people who have no interest in pvp, everyone in WvW is there because they want open-world pvp
ranger/engi so you can AFK and read through the special abilities of different pets or the Toolbelt ability of each skill
totally agree with Seifer, AFK this map, it’s clear now that Anet are either to stubborn or to stupid to remove it from queues, so fine, we just won’t play it.
It seems ArenaNet has given up on sPvP altogether lately.

but if you’re playing tournament then you have no choice but to alt tab and browse the net since you all get punished if you leave, it really ruins the flow of your pvp night.You and people like you are the reason GW2 solo queue sucks. That attitude is the reason you get Skyhammer and I am glad the PvP Map Gods give it to you all the time.
Justice has been served. Go AFK in PvE where you can still contribute while being alt-tabbed.
actually if i was in pve i wouldn’t need to afk because nothing in pve punishes you for leaving something you don’t want to play, nor does it randomly force you into certain instances, if you don’t like arah then you never need to go to arah.
also this was merged in here, clearly anet can’t even be bothered to read/acknowledge skyhammer criticism anymore and they use this as a bin.

Per-hit, true, but necro dagger attacks so much faster that it does have the superior DPS.
i have never seen a dagger necro deal anywhere near the damage that a warrior can do with greatsword and i play both, power necro is one of my favourite characters.

this would be cool for levelling, other games have things like a skin slot, were skins are separate from armour so you can switch gear and keep the same look.
but a simple way to transmog gear lv 70 and under would work too
i think the opposite, i think Pistolwhip and Blurred Frenzy need their evades removing.
along with all other attacks that make you immune to damage.
attacking should be a choice, as should going defensive, you shouldn’t be able to use a skill to deal damage and make you invulnerable.

as the OP said, every other profession has the ability to cleave in melee (and most of them are alot more powerful than necro dagger attacks).Necro dagger is one of the highest DPS in the game, so not really.

compare it to warrior greatsword damage for example,
the warrior will deal a hell of a lot more damage and his attacks cleave.
i wouldn’t say the sigils are broken i’d just point out that there are very few decent alternatives for power/zerker builds,
condi builds get a far wider choice with sigils that proc conditions, sigils that increase durations etc.
strength runes though i agree, they’re alot better than all other alternatives, but rather than heavily nerfing them they should give them a small tweek but buff other runes.

The Solution
In GW1, Random Arenas had the challenge of asking you to try going on a 25 match win streak and every 5 wins you’d get a bonus chest. Doing something similar in GW2 is what I think would be ideal. May be not 25 but instead 12. So every 3 wins you get a bonus chest and at 12 wins you get a chest with a guaranteed rare and exotic and crafting mats. The reason for the size down would be because the matches in GW2 can take 15 minutes.
fantastic idea, /signed, i used to love RA, though i still think the majority of the problem with not feeling inclined to play is down to balance, people playing meta clones will find the game mindnumbingly boring, and people not playing meta clones will find the game mindwrackingly frustrating, neither will want to play.

imagine dropping 2x meteor shower on a point in pvp? spam 5k crits all over the place!
turrets can’t crit, but also none of the proc sigils effect turrets, i think the Smoldering sigil might effect the burning duration of flame turret though, if you’re going purely for sigils increasing turret dps then you could use Sigil of Frailty which has a 50% chance of applying 10 seconds of vulnerability every 2 seconds when you hit the target, effectively increasing the turrets damage by 1% each proc.
lucky pick! warrior is the class which can throw talent points anywhere you like and use any weapon XD
but on a serious note, some highlights you’ll want to pick up:
Healing Signet ,possibly the best heal in the game, never click it!
Adrenal Health ,regens health based on adrenaline.
Cleansing Ire ,removes conditions when you use F1 skills, also makes gaining adrenaline really easy.
Endure Pain ,makes you immune to direct damage for the duration.
Berserker Stance ,conditions can’t be applied to you for the duration.
all of the cookie cutter builds you will find will have all of these incorporated in to their build
my most fun in pvp recently has been playing this glasscannon greatsword warrior, zipping around the map blowing people up!
i never click the signets and i only switch to sword/shield for getting out of a fight and travelling, so its a really simple to use build, but most importantly its FUN!
sure its not meta, but meta builds are boring.
the black cat (with stealth) is my go-to dps pet, birds are more bursty while cats are constant damage,
also i dont like birds because of the swiftness skill they’ll cast before joining the fight.

sucks that in pvp everyone gets to use the Black Widow so it loses all of its prestige
i play a greatsword glasscannon in pvp and its hilarious, it chews through condi clones before they have a chance to stack their bleeds.
i think for classes that can break out of meta and still be effective,
warriors have it easier than others.
also axe 5 is LETHAL in pvp i use it on my axezerker.
dodge rolls deal around 3-4k damage, axe 5 deals around 12k damage.
you can dodge while channelling it, so roll forwards and backwards through your target you’ll evade all damage and deal around 18-20k damage.
heres a little gif i made before strength runes made it even stronger.

i think all professions should be able to spec to either be a bunker, a zerker or a hybrid that is less effective but can do bits of both.
currently there are classes like warrior and engineer that have tons of survival and the damage of a glass cannon.
it should be a decision between the 2, playing with these god specs just isn’t fun.
TL:DR “effective builds are boring and take no skill, fun builds = death”
and i completely agree.
using other broken AI as an example is not a good reason to buff another (already broken) AI build, turret engis are already ridiculously strong at holding a point.
they fixed slow clunky turret AI so now turret engis are EZmode.
you forgot some important things.
start match when its 3v3 instead of 1v1,
remove team select
auto balance more often
seriously though, its nice to have an ele build that a warrior can’t roflstomp just by smashing his face into his keyboard
i play MeleeEle (Stone heart + conjure weapons) and its hilarious having a hammer warrior running away from a little ele with a lightning hammer :P
Sounds like you should try the ‘Play Now’ button. It prioritizes servers that are just starting a map, has playable space, and is the same server other people will hop into when they use ‘Play Now’ so that they’re usually never empty and/or fill up quickly.
i must be clicking the wrong play now button, because the play now button i click always sticks me in a 300v50 game (thats an example) with lopsided teams, and when that pointless game ends everyone will leave out of frustration, the next game will be 1v1/1v2 for just long enough that the game becomes lopsided again and then people start joining, and so the cycle continues.
never had this problem with 8v8.

i’ll keep saying it, we very rarely had this problem with 8v8s, since missing 1-2 people from a team wasn’t as big of an issue.
making hotjoin 5v5 was a stupid idea, i’d wish they’d revert it,
but its anet, so no matter how stupid their actions are, they won’t revert them.

^ good luck with that XD, once its fired its fired, if a guardian puts retaliation on his whole group you’re in trouble :P
that being said there are very few skills like Barrage which can’t be stopped,
so anyone taking ridiculous amounts of retal damage probably deserves it for mindlessly spamming aoe.
