made a video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbFDMIm0tkA
fastest i got was half a second (0:55) with a fire ele but i only gave it 2 attempts,
with better timing it could be instant since it relies on instant/fast casts combined with dragon’s tooth.
also in the vid is Beastmastery Ranger and Rifle Engineer!
nope no difference OP is cheap by nature.
not gonna get into specific classes/skills but its the same for all games,
if its overpowered its cheap.
(i played a blood DK in WoW and let me tell ya’ it was’nt skill that let me win 5V1s!)
not got a video, but a full glass cannon engineer build i use can kill it pretty dam fast (within a second or two)
Big Ole’ Bomb
Net
Jumpshot
Grenade Barrage
(Big Ole’ Bomb explodes for 5-6k right as you land the jumpshot for 3-4k and then grenade barrage for 5-6k) this was’nt even using quickness, then it’d be well under a second!
also ele using full glass fire build S/D with arcane 100% crit
Arcane Power
Dragon’s Tooth
Phoenix
Fire Grab
pretty dam fast, throw in the instant arcane attacks for even more destruction.

i think it’s been bought up alot,
especially on the pvp forums were respeccing happens ALOT
but yeah, it’d be great to have item/trait presets like from GW1.
agreed, it should be a “special slot” rather than an exclusivly “elite” slot
so you can put either an elite or an extra skill in.
mounts and asura gates would be a great change, clicking a point on the map and instantly ending up there removes all sense of immersion,
also mounts are cool
back when you were on the swim team, did you have flippers on?
would’nt the other team get a little mad if they’re swimming fair and square and you have flippers on and leave them behind without any skill or effort?
thats the difference,
in real life its your physical/mental ability that gives you the edge so people will congratulate each other when one of them fairly wins.
Back in GW2 someone spamming an easy mode Quickness/Backstab/heartseeker build is likely to get a lot of hatred, for playing with such a cheap build.
you really expect everyone to clap and say “bravo! well played!” when some guy is going round clicking 2 buttons and one shotting everything?
if the game was balanced, and skill determined who won
then you’d likely see sportsmanship.
you need some crossover,
gaining xp
(but adding a report function to prevent bots)
this would also bring a huge chunk of pve players into our incywincy pvp side.
Glory Store
or changing the way we gain armor, there could be a store we can spend glory in to buy ANY armor/wep,
current rank 80 armor would obviously cost you a ridiculous amount per piece (like a million? lol),
this would give us a goal rather than only being rewarded once every 10 ranks,
we could save up for pieces of armor,
had your eyes on those Medium Vigil Leggings?
hop into pvp and get saving up the 250,000 glory and they’re yours!
i boycott underwater combat completely,
when the map rotation reaches Raid on the Crap-ricorn i go back to mists and join a different game.
no, that was a bug, its been fixed.
Notice how all the awards they “won” have no mention of PVP? (Which is odd when you consider all the e-sport hype before release)
key words, before release.
once everyone tried it 90% of the pvp community realized anet had a great advertising department to hype us up and take our cash and give us a sprout of content to fiddle with..for 5 months.
theres only so much of a single game mode a mind can take before you go insane.
getting on a high ledge above a heavily contested shrine , popping quickness and bombarding them with grenades! numbers, pretty numbers!
face rolling with a kitty on a Beastmastery Ranger :-3
getting a “what the fudge!” reaction after using a one shot engineer combo!
(Big ole’ Bomb>Rifle Net>Jumpshot>Grenade Barrage)
playing a bunker guardian, walking up to a treb with enemies using it, destroying it while they attack you, then typing “stop it tickles!” and wander off, only to come back 2 more times to destroy it again! XD
guys its a global cooldown of the time it takes you to blink.
its removed a serious bug, its not a massive issue,
if engineer toolbelt skills were bugged and one shotting people when pressed together i’d welcome a blink sized GCD even though i play engi most.
Let see how it works out now that people will start complaining about OP of some other class
people have been calling for a thief backstab nerf since release, the only difference is that Anet must not play mesmer.
blink your eyelids, thats your global shatter cooldown.
hardly game breaking to one of the best classes in the game.
i play a rifle glass cannon, they’z fun!
my build is a little more glassy though,
pop Big ole’ Bomb, rifle2, grenade barrage and jump shot, BOOM!
i dont play pve, why is pve still in the game? because other people do.
just because you dont play 8v8 does’nt mean its redundant,
i’ve not played a 5v5 yet, i’ll stick to my 8v8, hands off!
if you WvW alot Snow Leopard will never leave your bar, between the stealth and the dash it’s the ultimate “what do we say to the god of death? not today!”
i dont think it’d hurt for them to give us a hint as to what the future holds,
or just let us know our voices are being heard
Or you know, have the game actually end when it’s supposed to. I have no idea why GW2 keeps the game running that way. I find it really annoying to be honest.
When the game ends, it should end.
its nice if you drink, you can go refill your glass, sure someone might kill your character, but you’re not losing anything
but yeah, agree with OP, the score boards are annoying,
plus its just rubbing it in that you’ve got the lowest score because you were holding a shrine in the shrine holding game, meanwhile some thief on the losing team has been running around backstabbing people, not taking any shrines, and he has 4 times as many points as you.
i did’nt think Vit was massively attractive for guardians since their HP scaling is so laughably poor anyway, stick a truck load of vitality in and you’ll get what, 2k more hp?
granted with a totally pvp component totally separate from pve it should make balancing easier since they wont harm the rest of the game with tone downs, tone ups and adjustments, so we SHOULD be seeing a more balanced game than we are.
but still “worlds worst devs” is kinda harsh, the game is F2P, if you’re not enjoying it go play something else, your account will still be here in 5 months time if you wanna come back and check the balance.
the real kicker is that when they are visible they’ll be spamming dodge roll caltrops and death blossom so you wont be able to hit them anyway!
i think obvious animations would help a ton,
but something would still need to be done about the absurd damage.
i watched that mesmer shatter video thats been floating around of the BUGGED shatter one shot, but the thing that got my attention most was the thief getting the mesmer to 20% instantly, no bug, no fancy set up or play, just press F1 then 1…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr8l833Gs9I
it does’nt take that long to swap out runes, weps and traits,
if you like to swap alot you could even set up an alt set of armor / weps and keep them in your bag so you dont even need to re-rune,
when you do it enough you remember where all of your trait points go and you can swap traits in under 30 secs.
we’re one of few classes who can handle the walls + epidemic is INSANE in wvw.
Don’t have a problem with the animation, but the sound effects… my god….
I wish we had a checkbox in the sound options were it lets us turn off specific annoying sound effects.
“MWRAaaaaar” “MWRAaaaaar” “MWRAaaaaar” “MWRAaaaaar” “MWRAaaaaar”
“MWRAaaaaar” “MWRAaaaaar” “MWRAaaaaar” “MWRAaaaaar” “MWRAaaaaar”
i agree XD
i have to mute sound effects when i plan on playing staff necro
agreed, same thing happened to me yesterday, i saw explosions by themselves so figured it was an invisible army attacking our walls, went a little closer (though still far away) and my hp starts draining…
10 seconds later i’m dead and <POP> a wild army appears!
it seems some of the invisible army had spotted me awhile ago and came to kill me.
gotta agree, watching a 12ft norn cast 100b is like he’s screaming “DODGE NOW!” he’s waving around his 14ft greatsword while screaming “RWAAR MORRAWR!”
then you have the tiny asura with very similar animations for everything.
thats why i hate thieves, with a couple of Venoms they can cover their absurd stacks of bleed with several other conditions, so pop a condition removal or 2 and still watch your hp dwindle into nothingness while you hack at thin air.
between the stealth and the charge its the ultimate get away, you can start on one side of a zerg in wvw and get so far on the other side that you’re out of range of their attacks, and then stealth before another colossal dash!
its always on my bar in wvw,
as a necro i could stick golem there for sustained dps 1v1, or lich form for high burst, but its such an amazing escape button that i always keep it
first fix thieves and mesmers – burst and stealth, THEN you can come talk about nerfing ranger pets.
totally agree, perma evade death blossom thieves, insta kill burst thieves, mesmers with 20 stacks of might blowing people up, and people are asking for a nerf to one of the 3 worst classes?! (engi necro ranger)
how about we replace all the ranger pets with squirrels, the necro spells with bubbles and the engineer kits with lego, will the OP be happy then?
Agreed, a strong skill done right is churning earth for example which gives u time to prepare and react or even atack the guy doing it and then evade and it puts the caster in alot of risk.
totally agree, churning earth is a perfect skill, its the Meteor Shower(gw1) of GW2, takes ages to cast, prone to interrupts, makes you a prime target, but its well worth it if you can get it off.
thats how burst should be, a punishment for foes who ignored the signs, not this thief bulls%%t, stab stab stab you’re dead, no warning, from out of nowhere.
the burst in GW2 is just pressing afew buttons and watching things die instantly.
Vollym’s Battle Pit!
Description: fight against waves of beasts and then face off against Vollym himself!
Location Vollym’s Battle Pit, far east Gendarren Fields (the snowy part)
Why i love it: i’ve always loved the arena style fights in any game, from the arena in Fable to the Ring of Blood in WoW.
Bonuses: from one completion you get 13/15 (and theres critters and dredge to the south to finish off) of your daily kill variety, and with several people you complete the daily kills 60/60, and the 2/5 daily events! plus a short restart timer (8:45 from defeating vollym)
long live the pit!
Why there’s a lack of bulging leather, underwear and large codpieces is beyond me. I’d want it done tastefully, but I do admit that it’s irritating when I see every other female in skimpy attire only to see male characters limited so severely.
i graduated college and university games design courses, and one thing i learnt that will always remain true, it’s a male dominated format,
games with lots of feme flesh will sell better.
just look at Lollipop Chainsaw, think people bought that for the “incredible story”?
no they bought it because it had a cheerleader and gratuitous amounts of upskirt shots!
TL;DR: games will sell better with skimpy women, not men.
it’d suck if they banned macros across the board.
i use a simple macro so when i hold down 1 it keeps pressing it, this is just so i dont have to keep manually spamming the button myself, it offers no advantage, just spares me from the click click click click click click click! (yes i know about auto casts but i use that for other skills like poison if i’m playing ranger/thief, or the proc glyph if i’m playing ele so i dont have to check when they’re off CD and reactivate them,
the problem is’nt with the ability to chain skills together with timing using a macro, its with the skills doing so much damage and stealth bugs (and quickness)
TLDR: its not the ability to macro, its the ridiculously OP skills used in the chain.
we’ll see on this fabled “jan/feb pvp update” that’ll be the deciding point for me, and i expect most of the pvp community, so lets see if they’ll hire some people who know what they’re doing!
“oh hai, you say shatter mesmers are op? kk we’ll give them 20 stacks of might.”
well ok then,
but in years time when you’re applying for a new job you can either say:
“i worked on GW2, one of the greatest MMOs of all time”
or
“i worked on one of the most dissapointing and overhyped MMOs of all time”
please, pick the first.
thanks
class balance: 4/10
most things are fine with the exception of afew well known FotMs but that has a huge impact.
(and the devs don’t seem to have a clue what they’re doing if i’m 100% honest.)
replayability: 2/10
there are 5 maps, all the same game mode, on repeat, forever.
(more game modes needed to raise the score!)
reward: 2/10
you get access to new armor/weapon skins (only usable in the pvp zone) every 10 “ranks” but by rank 9 these ranks will start taking a lifetime to go through, and with no reward each rank it feels like you’re not getting anything atall other than “glory” which you have nothing to spend on!
(unlock skins each rank rather than lots of skins every 10 ranks, or allow glory to be used for something worth while)
gameplay: 8/10
its still GW2 with the dodging and the awesome gameplay, afew chunky mechanics like stealth however.
overall: 4/10
loads of work to be done, currently there are very few games with pvp that come to mind which are worse than GW2, massively overpowered FotM builds, only one game mode.
bet your bottom dollar that we’ll be seeing Palawa Joko again >;-3
i hope he swims the oceans to reach Orr to kick zhaitan’s butt!
“there can be only one lord of the dead! THE KING HAS RETURNED!” >:-3
also the Mursaat “Lazarus the Dire” is likely hiding and hatching an evil plot to get revenge on the stickin’ humans, and their dumb dog too!
mesmers have always been amongst the best, its not like ranger or engineer, buffing them with the ability to get absurd stacks of might is just Anet trolling or showing a complete lack of understanding about their game.
So do you play a backstab thief or a heartseeker thief?
no i play as little FotM as possible, ranger/ engineer/ water dps ele (which is hilariously fun) / axe+mace warrior,
but yes i occasionally hop onto my bunker guardian when i’m sick of getting one shotted by FotM thieves and mezzies.
its got to a state in pvp where i’d be quite happy if they SmiteBoon’d the hell out of shatter messies.
ofcourse a pvp/pve splite would be required.
im through getting insta killed by mesmers with 20 stacks of might…
love that Anet buffed their FOTM build and then post a forum comment “yes its wicked! we’ll be watching it!”
yes, you’ll be watching…
rather than fixing the game you just watch and every month or so throw a dart at a board while blindfolded to decide what to buff/nerf…
a chimpanzee could design a game with more balance,
what happened to the GW1 devs?
also alot of us boycott water combat all together because for some classes it just sucks
s a map where a 3rd of the objective is underwater is a no no
i’m in the same boat!
everything else is showing up EXCEPT the FDS (i’ve unlocked everything) which is by far the best of them all!
i know its pvp (which is usually at the bottom of the priority list it seems, and also not a game effecting bug which will push it even further down the list)
but please give us our swords Anet!
thanks
alot of things about thief really annoy me (deathblossom builds are at the top of the list)
IMHO downed is a big waste of time, i’d want to just respawn and get it over with.
so stealth stomping does’nt bother me,
plus all classes have mechanics that make stomping trivial:
engineer – invul / stability / stealth
ele – stability /mist form
warrior – stability / quickness
mesmer – stealth / stability
thief – stealth / quickness
guardian – stability
necro – DS stability
ranger – quickness / stability
all of these could be used in the fight to help down the player, or saved until the player is downed for an easy finish.
attacks should be that, ATTACKS.
defensive skills should be that, DEFENSIVE.
i have a guardian that can go toe to toe 2v1 and keep 3-4 v 1 busy for a decent amount of time,
then one of “these” comes along, flipping around evading every attack…
i have 9 stacks of bleeding i pop condition removal, a few seconds pass…i have 12 stacks of bleeding…
30 seconds go by i’ve blown all of my cooldowns, 3 condition removals, i had 13k hp (guardian HP sucks) i took 21k bleeding dmg… and i’m dead, thanks to the magic of 3 3 3 3 3 3…
i’m only 76 atm but plan on getting arah gear, and i think its GOOD that something is rock solid to do,
at the moment i can look around LA and hardly see anyone with arah gear,
i’m willing to put months of pain and sweat in to reap the rewards of a challenging but rare armor set,
imagine if they did what everyone wants and make the instance easy?
it’d be like looking around at all the clones in Winged set!
no no no, take the pain, reap the rewards of your effort!
i’d be so annoyed if i’ve levelled all the way to 80 with a vision of this set as my ultimate goal and then suddenly they make arah a walk-in-the-park and everyone has it.
no! keep it as a reward for those who stick with it, a true reward!
while i’m really pleased i wont have to keep spamming warhorn and spectral walk to gt around at speeds faster than a snail (and i am grateful!)
i do feel that in a game where you only get to 4 slots for bonus skills, having 1 slot reserved for just running around really takes us down to 3,
run speed is a necessity!
i see where you’re going with them, its a utility, we need to make choices and sacrifices, but it still feels like the run speed is invaluable! and changing it out for anything will feel slooooow
forget the map, it’d be nice just to see enemies on the SCREEN.
