one of the most frustrating things with that game was how often they made sweeping changes that completely changed a certain class from OP to unplayable while buffing something else to be OP.
i’d disagree there, i thought it gave the game a taste of variety, there would be large changes for most of the classes and they’d happen often enough to keep things feeling like a brand new experience, plus the inability to instantly reroll the FOTM class was a blessing in disguise.
side note it was always great when the fotm got nerfed, the delicious salty tears as they roll their face over the keyboard and look up to see they did’nt automatically win, i’d love nothing more than to see the current D/D eles nerfed to hell.
Balance will come with time like all great mmos.
i’ll try not to say the dreaded “w” word, but a certain MMO beginning with w, which many would consider to be a very successful MMO has a very nice approach to balance, things that need changing get changed the classes are’nt just poked and prodded with a stick for 6 months changing borderline nothing, things get done.
after 6 months it should seem clear to everyone that Anet’s “baby steps” approach tweaking minor things every few months, isn’t doing jack.
i actually love it when i get snared before using GS 3, it hits on every attack
i only do hotjoin nowadays,
don’t take MY game away just because it does’nt interest YOU.
i’ve noticed something similar with downed skills, like switching target and using warrior 2 knockdown, half the time it throws at the first target.
throw it on the colossal pile of engineer bugs ignored since release!
the most annoying one for me being the “Scope” trait doing nothing.
and the “Elite Supplies” trait could be quite fun with mortar, if it actually worked.
you could roll 100nades and try blowing them the F up, but watch out for retaliation, that HURTS with grenade builds, i’m not sure how strong the perma retaliation is on their phantasms.
i like greatsword mesmer specced for phantasms,
just stand back and spam and you’re a pro.
thats my guilty lazy char
also as stated by someone else, necros specced for staff is a nice lazy build,
targeting? “ain’t nobody got time for dat!”
i don’t know who coded the pvp browser UI but they did a really shoddy job,
until Anet make a browser UI worth using i’d recommend manually clicking on 12/13/14 player matches and pray that its not “full” or you’ll run into the other wonderfully trashy feature of the browser, the loooooong wait for an error message.
In GW2 we have boon removal and conditions..so nothing has changed…well now a warrior can deal more damage than an ele while still having 50% more HP
not really, tank eles in GW1 relied on enchants usually with long cooldowns like Obsidean Flesh, this makes them different to boons since boons can be spammed,
you’ll no sooner remove them all and they’ll be back up again,
remove a GW1 ele’s enchants and he’s useless until they get off cooldown.
also there was no spam condition removal through traits since traits did’nt exist,
if you wanted to remove conditions it’d cost you a skill slot,
and the self target ones usually had higher cooldowns.
as for the warrior damage, in order for a warrior to “deal more damage than an ele” they’ll be specced glass cannon,
and they’ll have frenzy up meaning they take very high damage,
plus you can immobilize/chill/cripple them at range.
thanks for your illuminating insight about… what other games do?
i take it you’re new to the gw franchise
had 3 GW1 accounts, first and main was made on release day, completed all missions, lived in pvp, played constantly until GW2, here i have multiple 80s, play every class completed all 3 story archs, working on world complete and i’m currently rank 34 in pvp.
TLDR: no.
GW1 had a couple of gimmick tanky ele builds, but they could all be obliterated with 1-2 skills (disenchantment/conditions), ele also had amazing damage when they were specced to be squishy, i used to run an air spiker, and later a fire spiker in 2012 after some buffs there, the “mage class” the way it was supposed to be, deadly from afar but squishy, not “the tank”.
I think that replacing/removing the orb carrier’s abilities is going way too far. Less emphasis on abilities means more emphasis on stats. That decision would make beefy, soldier amulet wearing warriors who are traited in defense and tactics to be the best choice as the orb runner.
and about darn time? seeing the “sturdy bodied” plate wearing warrior out tanked by the mage class is just wrong no other MMO sees the mage out tanking the plate classes, and rightfully so.
mage classes should always be the class of choice for those who prefer to fight fire with fire, cloth armor with high damage.
edit: the reason i say “mage class” is that they’re one of the generic classes you’ll find in any mmo just as with warrior(barbarian, soldier) / rogue(assassin, thief) / paladin(cleric, shaman). who may vary in names.
signed +10000000
they’d have to lock utilities too so Anet’s favourite class can’t use a certain skill that turns them into an unkillable cloud of mist.
Picard: “Make it so!”
we all saw this coming the moment we heard about the orb,
aside from being the best spec in the game,
dagger eles now get their own auto win map.
OP, you found out you were mistaken. Empty servers are used for dueling.
Now, if you could, stop arguing and let go.
AGAIN,
Nobody has a right to duel.
While its generally considered polite (and I agree with this sentiment) to not kitten with duels, no one is required not to.
Coming from the position that he was in the wrong technically is incorrect. He was wrong in that he did not understand the general etiquette, but all he did was play the game – He’s not wrong for playing the game.
i can ruin your day in the mists before you’ve even qued up, i discovered a way (which i won’t share) to prevent you from doing anything, and best of all it does’nt break the rules,
yet i don’t use it…
ever wondered why? after all, its not wrong, i’m just playing the game.
answer: because i’m not a kitten.
YES something is possible, YES you have every right to do it, that still does’nt make it the correct thing to do, 99% of all pvpers will know that empty servers are used for dueling since Anet were too lazy to add a duel function, you’re playing an MMO, learn to deal with how the community work around missing features or go play a single player game if the communities choices don’t work for you, otherwise expect for the duelers to spawn camp you until you quit being a kitten.
up until now i’ve had no problem with 100nades, but an hour ago i played a match on my necro (21k hp, 25 points in toughness tree) i was over 80% hp when WHAM, i’m down.
the same engineer kept doing it all game, it was no different than getting 1 shot by a thief with the special ability to click 3 buttons.
things like this should’nt happen, i understand glasscannons should kill fastER but instantly? come on…
give any pvper 5 minutes and a piece of paper,
we’ll write down what needs to change to make pvp tolerable.
c’mon Anet, wake up.Its not that they are ignoring us, it’s that we arent worth investing their time in. Please stay up to date with the realities of the communities PvP concerns, that way we can all work together with a focus on what we need in sPvP.
i did’nt say they were ignoring us, i was saying they have no idea what needs doing to fix the broken pvp hilarity.
they poke and prod at random skills and talents as if blindly playing pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey.
give any pvper 5 minutes and a piece of paper,
we’ll write down what needs to change to make pvp tolerable.
c’mon Anet, wake up.
Everyone is trying to get the patch at prime time.
To be expected
exactly expected we all knew everyone would be downloading the patch so why did Anet not take counter measures?
feed us lots of mini patches over the months since the last patch for example.
we all expected it, all of us except Anet apparently.
hate to bring up the cliche, but when WoW has a patch,
you log out, you download, you play,
unless Blizzard are witches and wizards there is obviously steps that can be taken to overcome this error-fest every single patch.
i think we need more GW1,
confusion should hit like empathy, mesmers need less clones more interrupts,
powerblock for elite?
Desolation EU
build:16732
code: 42:1020:9001:4103
to be fair it’s been like this since release, sooooo many threads have been made,
soooo many bug reports have been filed,
its nice to see a dev post, and it only took SIX MONTHS
nice to hear that is indeed a bug, can’t wait to try out more sword builds!
my tpvp thief is a big norn. which is also lvl 76 before i left pve a week after release.
argument invalid
did i say pvp was impossible on a race that is’nt asura? no
i said you’ll be handicapped.
it’s not an argument its a proven observation.
ask yourself, who is more likely to catch someone out with 100b?
the tiny little asura who’s animations all look the same?
or the big norn with their obvious “I’M-CASTING-HUNDRED-BLADES-MOVE-NOW” animation?
thats if you can even see the animation of the asura,
in a busy fight they can stand inside other characters/pets/clones/minions,
giving you no way of seeing what weapon/skill they’re using until they’ve already hit you with it.
(edited by Liewec.2896)
meanwhile you can create every class in every spot (5) and use the class required when needed
except there are 5 slots and 8 classes.
plus you’ll want your pve chars to be something awesome like a gigantic norn or charr but its practically mandatory for pvp chars to be asura or suffer a handicap.
what we need: the ability to make a new character straight into the mists,
load a trait/skill loadout,
load a gear/rune/sigil loadout,
queue for the games within a minute of making your asura ^cough^ i mean pvp character.
underwater combat is’nt balanced, just skip crapricorn and you’ll be happy
i don’t get why you all think it’s horrible as it is, i’m rank 31 and i LOVE vengeance, with Sweet Revenge it’s my favourite downed skill of any class, that moment where you down someone while downed yourself, just knowing “yep i’ve won this” as you stand up and stomp them
the only change i’d do to Vengeance is to grant Sweet Revenge as default.
until we get a clear answer its best to take 20% signet CD reduction and just go with having fury up most of the time from the elite signet.
i think its good as it is now, granted “Sweet Revenge” is a necessity,
i’d be happy if they added sweet revenge as default so if you get a kill you rally,
but i think returning you to downed is far too win/win.
also i hear (though never tried out) that if you get back to full hp while under “Vengeance” you rally.
this was a bug months ago, i imagine its just a bug now,
unless it ports us back to hotm after khylo and before crap-ricorn,
that’d be handy for saving us the time of leaving ourselves! XD
Wait, the Discipline Tree increases your burst damage?! Never noticed.
how could you not notice the incredible 3%?!
i’m loving Pack runes, the 6/6 gives another 5% crit chance, and the fury procs are nice
if you pve/wvw you could even try lyssa runes, effectively giving you perma fury and swiftness from elite signet.
imho its bloodlust hands down, atleast until 25 stacks, then if you have another greatsword to switch in i’d probably say force/fire,
strength just does’nt proc enough due to the crappy internal cooldown, you only ever see 2-3 stacks tops, if it proc’d the instant it was off CD you’d still only be able to get a max of 5 stacks for 2 seconds before they start falling off again.
they should make the CD 1 second, or even remove it to make it a viable gamblers alternative to bloodlust.
relax a little, get cozy in your chair and please don’t throw a fit when the changes go down.
the problem is there is no reason why much needed changes should’nt happen, if Anet treat PVPers like secondary customers despite us paying the exact same price as PVEers then the entire pvp community will only take so much before we leave and advise our friends to avoid a game with no community support.
i’m hoping this patch is the patch that Anet realize that and strive for the balance and pvp community that GW1 had, and the new map looks visually fantastic, so i’m hoping that the balancing will follow suit and be fantastic too
as a ranger are you comparing a short range knockdown to an aoe 20 second immobilize that applies 7000 bleed damage saying the knockdown is OP?
what is the point of this thread?
i bet every necro would love to exchange golem for entangle.
Truth is, it seems to me that people want PvE rewards/Ascended gear/etc without changing their way of gaming.
actually i think people are just trying to find a way to make playing the same 5 maps repeatedly in the same single game mode feel more rewarding than playing 200 games to watch a number go from 40 to 41.
PvE rewards have no place in spvp.
get laurels > buy materials with laurels > sell materials on AH > convert gold to gems > buy extra skins / character slots / cow finishers / glory boosters.
how about 16 character slots? 8 for asura pvp chars
and 8 for pve, playing races that aren’t crappy little midgets?
i really hope they do a good job on the ele nerf if they can carry orb and use RTL.
currently an entire team can chase an ele around a map while the ele just lols.
also if you have a minion out you can stand behind the minion while you stomp a warrior/engi and their knockdown/pull will hit the minion instead of you
if they’re direct damage then mesmer with the focus trait and lots of clones and stealth is a great counter, throw down the curtain/phatansm to reflect their arrows and keep stealthing and cloning since ranger has very few aoes to nuke down all your clones.
if its trap ranger you’ll need a way to get rid of conditions fast, necro/guardian are good at this, also trap rangers usually have their whole utility bar full of traps so no way to deal with CC, a hammer warrior could have some fun there
i never play pve, just pvp, and my warrior is my most played char.
i find it extremely fun and flexible!
using teleports like steal or the ele cantrip are intended, stability stomping is intended,
but things like mistform stomping are’nt intended, atleast thats the way i figure it
since mistform does’nt allow you to start downing players during it.
Erm, don’t Elementalists have the weakest healing skills in the game?
try playing a warrior!
I WISH my warrior had Ether Renewal!
indeed, they advertise the warrior as the “sturdy bodied class” yet its about the only class without the Protection buff and very few ways to get regen, also some of the worst healing skills in the game, compared to ele who have regen, prot and a 15 second CD healing skill which heals for more than our 30 second conditional heal
in real life its your physical/mental ability that gives you the edge so people will congratulate each other when one of them fairly wins.
Back in GW2 someone rolling an Easymode ele/thief is likely to get a lot of hatred,
for playing with such a cheap build.
you really expect everyone to clap and say “bravo! well played!”
when some guy is rolling their face on their keyboard and watching things die?
it is’nt fun to get one shotted by a thief, or to be wailing on a d/d ele and watching their HP constantly shoot back up to full.
it’d be like an NFL player driving a tank to the endzone,
getting out and throwing down the ball (and not getting disqualified).
they’d get a s%%tstorm of hatred for perverting a fun level playing field.
if the game was balanced, and skill determined who won
then you’d likely see more sportsmanship.
nope skirmishing still is’nt fixed,
also you spelt CRAPricorn wrong
my advice would be to join games on Temple,
play through to Khylo,
then leave after Kyhlo finishes to start over.
don’t waste your time getting ridiculously low points on crapricorn
while i agree that glass cannons should die fast and not complain about it, there is a difference between fast and instantly.
no spec of no class should kill anyone INSTANTLY.
because the ultimate solution to help solve the problem of people ignoring objectives and running around zerging is to add bragging rights for how many kills you have!
how about instead of “group zerged 90000 people so far!” we have “held point for [hours : minutes : seconds]” or “fwarted point assaults:” or “points taken:”
encouragment for mindless group zergs is the last thing this game needs!
Dont think about it.
you really did’nt did you?
